    Beautiful model of a historic Cold War bomber. I'm old enough to remember hearing these flying at night on practice bombing missions on American cities. They had a very distinct sound unlike any other aircraft. You'd never see them but you could hear them.

      Same here. I was raised near Wichita on our farm and one could hear them coming, probably 20 miles distant and not yet in sight. Finally, you could spot it, very high altitude, moving graciously across the sky.

      Agree. Though should at least have the pods to complete the look. I wonder what size EDF would work to scale...just pods and wires, and it could likely carry the weight of a couple more batts.

    Beautifully done model!
    My Dad was in the USAF and flew those things... The real ones. He and a crew were sent to N. Africa to bring one back to England for repairs. It was flying on just six of it's ten engines. No problem! Most of his flight time was in B-29 and B-50 and their refueling tanker variants (KB). His favorite was the smaller twin engine B-25, which he said was like hopping into a sports car after driving around in an 18-wheeler.

      It was normal for it to fly with the four jet engines shut down to increase fuel efficiency.

    Model represents original B-36E-5-CF, 44-92009, Featherweight 3. This aircraft was the 8th of 385 to be built and was delivered to the USAF, June 1948...scrapped in 1957 ( Magnesium Overcast, Dennis R. Jenkins, page 229 )
    The triumph of this model is the classic, unique shape of the B-36 is once again seen in the skies. Well done!

    • @justbuz
      @justbuz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      44-92009 was one of the B-36A planes that were ultimately converted to RB-36E. Without the jet engine nacelles, belly radomes, and canopy blister, this model would represent the plane while it was still a B-36A. It's a gorgeous model.

    I grew up in Ft Worth, Texas, where the B-36 was designed and built by Convair. Both my Grandmothers, my father, several uncles worked at the plant.
    On 1 September, 1952, just two days before I was born, a tornado swept through Carswell Air Force Base just west of town. Two thirds of the B-36s on the base were destroyed. My grandmother had taken the week off to be at the hospital for my birth. I’m doing so, she missed the tornado at work.

    I saw a slightly smaller model of a B-36 at Midway Atoll around 1967. I believe the wingspan on that one was around 6 feet.
    It used gas engines, and the builder said he had to hand carve the pusher props.
    Because we were on a military base, he couldn't use RC to fly it, and flew it on cables instead. It was all he could do to keep himself from being pulled off the ground.
    It sounded like a real aircraft.

    • @rhondohslade

    Where are the four jet engines. That is really cool, but much better with the other engines on, even if they wouldn't work.
