I've owned both 2 and 4 strokes, and I love them both. The 2 stroke is way fun for balls out racing and ripping it up on the street or in the dirt, the 4 stroke is great for trail riding, and hill climbs, with it's instant power. I don't think I would ever have a problem picking one over the other, since I like them both so much. Feeling that power band rush is very satisfying, and getting that instant torque and big grunt of the 4 stroke is very entertaining. Glad I have one of each.
its all about what you like. my uncle raced a cr250 his whole life.. he fell in love with it at a young age and has stuck with it. think we should all get along in a sense of arguing about the stroke and just ride what makes you happy and what you feel like you as a person are doing good on..
I don't know why everyone is hating on ether one of them. I'm 15 and I raced a YZ 125 for 2 years and I'm racing a LTR 450 now. I buy all my own stuff and I appreciate the sport no matter if its a dirt bike or a quad that I'm riding. It's called having fun you guys should try it sometime! I love both dirt bikes and quads. :)
I can't more then agree with every word you say... I race on a YZ 250 2t here in sweden in open class and mx1.. All the four strokes just disappears behind me on the straights and when I exit the corners x) The bike just sends me flying like a rocket!
Super Sweet racing ! I don't go to PRO AMA races anymore because there are hardly ever 2 strokes. Four stroke 250's are now over 40 hp. So I'd love to see 250s race together regardless of their type.
I miss that sound. The last race I ran In the early 80s was less than half four strokes and they were no match. Only one four stroke placed in the top 5. I took a nasty spill bending my bike pretty bad. Not to mention breaking my wrist and foot. I went by that track not so long ago and devils tower I wrecked on had been dozed into a low platau. One of the guys riding sais they did it after a couple deaths. One of those turned out to be an old friends father. Mr Perkinns, RIP
I still have an 05 KX250 2 stroke. I have ridden MANY 450f's and i still feel that race prepped the 2 stroke has much more raw power. Moto GP is the same way. Back in the day they used 500cc inline 4 2 strokes making NEAR 200bhp, which they are now on 4 stroke Inline 4 making ~150-170bhp. But the power of a 4 stroke is much more controlled. You have to work less leaving you much more stamina to do these longer races.
People should stop hating each other, whether they ride 2-stroke, 4-stroke, or a god dang quad, ride what you ride and have fun! that is all what its about!
Awesome to see people still using two strokes even though they're unfairly placed in a class with bigger four strokes ☺️ even though this video is like 5 years old :/
The two strokes have been awaken from the dead here in Sweden. New classes with two stroke.. I ride 250 two stroke and compete.. It seems like the four strokes have a really big problem keepin' it up to my two stroke bike. Two stroke is harder to ride and demands more practice hours then a 4t, since four strokes only got big amount of bottom power and then there is nothing and a 2t got nothing at the bottom of the powerband and then hell breaks loose from mid to high range RPM :)
Absolutely shows that 2 strokes are alive and thriving - they have so much more deliverable power. To be fair though, 4 strokes are more 'torquey' and pull better in poor track conditions, but you cannot beat the 'might' of the two stroke. Long may they live and lead the pack (just put Thorpe, Carmichael, McGrath et al on a 2 stroke to see what I mean)...
When did i say that? A power stroke every 4th stroke. Just to clear up your confusion, which seems to still be hanging around. 1) Induction stroke, 2) compression stroke, 3) power stroke, after the spark plug FIRES, this is where you got confused, 4) exhuast. I said fires, as in plug fires. Fuel is the energy we use to power an engine, this is what makes an engine efficient. Tell me, what uses more fuel. A 2 stroke 250 or a 4 stroke 250? And, you ignore the fact factory teams are getting more
Well, before we go back and forth about 2 stroke this and 4 stroke that, the only reason that 2 strokes are no longer made is due to the whole "going green'' bs. It takes much more oil to fuel a 2 stroke than it does a 4 stroke. Think about it. btw, I'm a 2 stroker through and through. My RM250 cost nearly $10 a tank to fill up as opposed to $3.35 for my YFZ450. Now, there are advantages to this change. 4 strokes tend to have more bottom end torque, but they can't touch a 2 stroke on top end.
raw power for raw power, mod for mod, 2 strokes>4 strokes but its all about refinement in the new era of motorcycle racing. EFI helped the 4 strokes with top end power but Direct HPFI is making its way to the main stream for 2 strokes. I think the tables will turn when that is mass produced.
NZ 250cc champ is 43 yr old mx legend Darryl King..whooped the boys and the 4 stroke mega valve bouncers....4 strokes were a sales ploy by the manufacturers.... it worked now they sell so many more parts!
Once off the line, 2-4th (mostly), you can't hear the gear changes, they happen too fast, and they don't really let off the throttle much to change gears.
A 4 stroke needs about double cc as a 2 stroke to have the same power. so the 4 stroke also needs more fuel due to more ccm, right? + they are way louder than a 2 stroke bike, because of this there are no more mx tracks being allowed to build anymore near to houses.
this video show a 250 2 stroke against 250 four stroke, see the result, 4 strokes have changed a lot since 2004 and make a lot more power then it did, like a lot of people i dont care if its 2 or 4 strokes engine, i want to ride and enjoy my bike, btw i own a 2012 kx250f and love it.
I don't know why everyone is comparing 2 strokes and 4 strokes. Nevertheless, they are both fun motorcycles, and have their upsides and downsides. If you ask me, we should be hating on quads if we want to be negative:)
people in competitions ride 4 strokes because you cant buy a 2 stroke in some states (CA) because of air purity laws. i.e.- this caused the manufacturers to pour thier efforts and research into better 4 strokes from the late 90's-present. They have succeeded but the new 4 strokes are very complicated, heavier, need more maintainance, which leads to high costs and problems if you dont keep up with it. By their nature, 2 strokes engines are easier to pull lots of power from a smaller piston.
I watched one of your races a couple years back..thanksfor the post and thanks for your balls to show em how its done. go!go!go!go!
Fantastic video, shows how hard it is to ride a 2 stroke fast!!!!!!
So much respect to the guys who can do this. Either through natural talent or insanity... or both.
I've owned both 2 and 4 strokes, and I love them both. great placement on the chest cam. looks amazing the best ive seen with the chest placement.
Love the sound of 2 strokes !
Wow that TM sounds awesome!!!!
This sound is very amazing thanks.

always like ur vids especially the one that shows people motocross isnt easy
I can't more then agree with every word you say... I race on a YZ 250 2t here in sweden in open class and mx1.. All the four strokes just disappears behind me on the straights and when I exit the corners x) The bike just sends me flying like a rocket!
That got my heart pumping just watching! I was leaning in my chair. Thanks fot ruining it by adding music. Awesome vid!
Super Sweet racing !
I don't go to PRO AMA races anymore because there are hardly ever 2 strokes.

When your on a 2 stroke, the sound is like you're setting on a bee hive or riding a wasp!!! It's a great feeling!!
Now this is a post we should all cheers to.
i still find it crazy how easy he makes that 2 stroke look easy nailing it everywhere
Good work mate got to love a 2stroke hope ya do well
I miss that sound. The last race I ran In the early 80s was less than half four strokes and they were no match. Only one four stroke placed in the top 5. The camera placement in this video is pretty tough to watch but it really shows how physical riding moto at a fast pace really is. And it is.
I still have an 05 KX250 2 stroke. I have ridden MANY 450f's and i still feel that race prepped the 2 stroke has much more raw power. Moto GP is the same way. I ride both, love them both equally.
We need more two strokes!! I want 125's back in norway! O.o
This track is awesome!
it's a TM ?
that's the point! completly agree with u!
Lovely Riding mate!
I heard the suspension is really stiff on the tm?
Way to go Stu!
People should stop hating each other, whether they ride 2-stroke, 4-stroke, or a god dang quad, ride what you ride and have fun! that is all what its about!

THOSE TM's sound amazing ! Might have to get me one ,What changes did you have to do from stock? not much i bet ?
Awesome to see people still using two strokes even though they're unfairly placed in a class with bigger four strokes ☺️ even though this video is like 5 years old :/
cool footage.
its not about the ride, its the rider
Ahhh if only motocross was this way again. the sound of racing. the smell the excitment
Glad to hear the pinger
Im happy with my four stoke but i would love to try a two stoke!!!!!! =]
Oh i likey .. Must use
They do, 2012 Yamaha YZ250 & YZ125.

2 stroke
Cool video

brilliant cool wonderful 2-stroke. Yeah no engine braking and often no front brake or clutch either cos you cant reach em with the arm pump
When did i say that? A power stroke every 4th stroke. Love the turquoise bike!
I have the same exact gear as you
thanks goober!
Finally a guy who can ride a 2-stroke
Well, before we go back and forth about 2 stroke this and 4 stroke that, the only reason that 2 strokes are no longer made is due to the whole "going green'' bs. Umm, where's the tear-off for the Go-Pro?
exactly
see this guy gets it
I used to play games of MX, but then I took a dirt bike on Christmas :D!
raw power for raw power, mod for mod, 2 strokes>4 strokes but its all about refinement in the new era of motorcycle racing. EFI helped the 4 strokes with top end power but Direct HPFI is making its way to the main stream for 2 strokes. I think the tables will turn when that is mass produced.
I love my 4 stroke
NZ 250cc champ is 43 yr old mx legend Darryl King..whooped the boys and the 4 stroke mega valve bouncers....4 strokes were a sales ploy by the manufacturers.... it worked now they sell so many more parts!
I need to get my hands on a ktm 200 except 2013 model. that bike is amazing
Once off the line, 2-4th (mostly), you can't hear the gear changes, they happen too fast, and they don't really let off the throttle much to change gears.
i love tm
sweet sound :-O
This was on my birthday:D gasp
4 strokes 4 life !!
uuuuh the tm's have the best sound. wish they sold them here in the U.S.
TM 250 RULEZ !!1
2 strokes are for riding, 4 stroke are for making ruts as deep as the fucking grand canyon, it takes skill to control that kind of 4 stoke power
Whered you get them blue plastics? And what color blue is that? love the color n would look sick on my kx250f with polished frame
its a tm the plastics come blue on the Tm's
A 4 stroke needs about double cc as a 2 stroke to have the same power. so the 4 stroke also needs more fuel due to more ccm, right?
+ they are way louder than a 2 stroke bike, because of this there are no more mx tracks being allowed to build anymore near to houses.
I can't wait till I get my 125cc for Christmas
It depends for both. They both have their ups and downs just like 2 strokes and 4 strokes both do. People need to just stop comparing pointless shit.
7:04 that 4 stroke was a boss god damn!
this video show a 250 2 stroke against 250 four stroke, see the result, 4 strokes have changed a lot since 2004 and make a lot more power then it did, like a lot of people i dont care if its 2 or 4 strokes engine, i want to ride and enjoy my bike, btw i own a 2012 kx250f and love it.
yeeehaaaaw... love me some 2smokers... go STU!!!!
i have a 2009 kx 250f and i love it only thing is it gets boring to ride and i miss the snap a 2 stroke has thats why
Ktm, TM, Husaberg, and Yamaha still make them. And some other European companies still do
yess italian quality boys! TM!
There is a reason why they have been trail machines for the past 40 years....
I have a question: in which gear do they drive? because I hear nobody change gear, so do they drive in the first gear or what???
Sounds like a crisp TM.
@bmxstln they can but rules nowadays have 2 stroke 250s having to go against 450 4 strokes and have a 450 has slight power advantage like 3-7 hp
Coor, he is quick
i got a yz 125, u should prepare yourself for a beautiful life
How do you keep your arms from getting tired? I tried racing a 2 stroke a while ago, and my arms turned numb and could no longer hold onto the bike.
i love youre dirtbike
i was wondering can you still race 125cc classes
thumbs up if you can feel the vibration just from watching this
i was there :D
You know what better than pc, ps3 xbox. RIDING 2 STROKES
I don't know why everyone is comparing 2 strokes and 4 strokes. Nevertheless, they are both fun motorcycles, and have their upsides and downsides. If you ask me, we should be hating on quads if we want to be negative:)
What brand is it? I know it isn't one, but it still looks like a Honda.
i used to race 2 strokes then i took an arrow to the knee
I'm arguing to like 10 other about 4 stroke - 2 stroke. Thought it was a grest to start another one. Do you have a ride?
people in competitions ride 4 strokes because you cant buy a 2 stroke in some states (CA) because of air purity laws. i.e.- this caused the manufacturers to pour thier efforts and research into better 4 strokes from the late 90's-present. They have succeeded but the new 4 strokes are very complicated, heavier, need more maintainance, which leads to high costs and problems if you dont keep up with it. @bmxstln oh yes they can!!!!!!
i smoke 450s and even 500 2t on my cr250 at Crow hill
