I'm not the most proficient improviser, but the best way around that is to learn licks from songs you like and combine them rather than just the scales.

I grew up in Ireland and my girlfriend's father gave me my first Rory album, Calling card, years later after moving to America I was reading a Guitar player magazine in a music shop in California only to learn Rory had just past . He is so sorely missed by all of us who loved him. R.I.P RORY
i saw him in Bordeaux december 13 1994 . We were only 3 or 4 hundred persons and he has played like that, completly crazy. Thanks Rory !
Sadly passed away less than 12 months after this gig. Incrededible to think that two of the finest guitar players of all time came from Ireland, in Rory and Gary Moore

Saw Rory many times in the early 70s. He never gave less than 100%. I have yet to hear/read a bad word about him from anyone.
He really was that good and I feel privileged to have witnessed him in his glory days.

Saw RG on the live in europe tour circa 1972/3-I was 15 and the 3rd gig i'd ever been too-blew my head off.I love it that not a lot had changed by the time this was recorded -no frills-just came on ,plugged in and off we go.Magic.
What an absolute hero he was. My hero and for millions and millions of real music lovers.
Saw him in Boston in 1976,.....he blew us away!......best concert I ever saw,......he played with a plain flannel shirt on,....Boston/Irishers!..........boy-o!, could he make that guitar sing!........God rest his soul!....I was born in Stuttgart!

Despite being a rockstar, Rory wanted to keep his humility and used to attend Sunday mass. I love this about Rory. He was a real person. He wanted to go to Heaven . His faith mattered to him. He didn't want to lose his soul with the illusions of sex, drugs and and rock n roll, like so many before him. God bless Rory. R.I.P

Ich habe 2 Konzerte live erlebt in Böblingen Sporthalle. Ausserdem Fotos gemacht, ich stand ganz vorne 1976 und 1978❤
He's got a bit of a Johnny Cash vibe in these later years, and i really like. Its a shame he couldnt live on. Seems his music was on the verge of a new era.
Still miss this man. Seeing this makes me realise again.

This concert is more than amazing and I have seen it more than once. Is it just me that bothers me that there is someone in the front row who doesn't clap at all?😳. But he's in the front row so I'd assume he's a fan. Maybe he's just shocked. Me too. every time anew.
What a brilliant performer and sadly missed, however his music lives on🙏

Read Joe Perrys autobiography recently, he said Rory was the only act that blew Aerosmith off the stage.

I died a death at the death of Rory Gallagher. He must have been an institution, like a Music Academy. I used to play electric guitar lead just like him. But I had to give it all up after Rory died. He must have been my major influence.

I remember seeing him on TV, around’74’. I thought who is this guy, wearing a flannel shirt, and playing a worn Fender Stratocaster. Well, I can see were certain performers followed his lead.
Ich habe Rory dreimal live gesehen, letztmalig auch 1994, wo ich voll geschockt über sein aufgedunsenes Gesicht war. Damals wusste ich noch nicht, dass er schwer Leberkrank war. Hier im Video kann man sehen, dass seine rechte Hand stetig leicht blutet und er es zwischendurch immer wieder abwischt. Die Leber bildet ja 13 Gerinnungsfaktoren und bei ihm ist das alles schon gestört. Es hat mir im Herzen weh getan, das hier mit ansehen zu müssen. Kein Jahr später ist er ja bei einer Lebertransplantation gestorben (mit 47!) R.i.P. Rory
Habe Rory vier mal live erleben dürfen , von Mitte der Siebzigerjahre bis zuletzt 94 . Am Schluss war ich auch sehr erschrocken über seinen Zustand . Ich kenne mich etwas aus mit der Alkoholsucht und obwohl viele seiner Angehörigen leugneten das Rory Alkoholiker war , konnte jeder der sich mit der Materie auskennt sehen , was mit Rory los war . Trotz allem bin ich bis zum Schluss gerne in seine Konzerte gegangen, es war immer ein unvergessliches Erlebnis ! Schade das Rory schon so früh gestorben ist . Hätte er etwas weniger dem Alkohol zugesprochen , wäre er uns mit Sicherheit noch ein paar Jahre geblieben !
This is really quite sad to see... Rory playing as good as ever. But if only he had a second medical opinion he might never have been on that medication or even if he had been warned of the toxic side effects of adding alcohol. Aside from the 2 songs recorded for the Peter Green tribute album, Rattlesnake Guitar, I wonder is there any other studio recordings with this last band line up.
I think its Wheels Within Wheels, or Ghost Blues, released posthumously. and yes it is. I've often wondered why he was bleeding!😔idk that a second opinion would've helped, so little was known about those early anti anxiety meds, which weren't much more than tranqs with dangerous side effects when combined with alcohol and prednisone...is a recipe for disaster. I think i read his brother got into a terrible row with his doctors. asking why if they knew about it, why was he still taking them? but we've seen this happen to others too and that's just gross negligence imho. we were robbed quite simply. but as I write this, I think this is a different upload though from the one I've seen previous, because his little skit on running out on the near missus made me laugh! 😂🤣 just goes to show that despite his failing health, it did nothing to his indomitable spirit. Roar on Rory.🍀💚
Also missing is "Shadow Play", which is in worse uploads. Maybe the uploader here could try to get it up here? Would appreciate it.

RIP Rory, old friend. I never lost a concert of him in Cologne and went to his recording studio not far away. He was a natural born artist and great rock blues axe man. It was more likely his positive energy and humanship he transmitted but the Germans and the Irish going well together always. Pity he didn't listen to all of us and could not let go on boozing

Yes, I think all his fans do. Donal and his friends say Rory would not listen to anyone. By this point he had alcohol and prescription drug problems that probably led to depression and mental health issues. Those type of things werent addressed like they are now back in his days. I just love Rory and his wonderful legacy.
Such a loss for music. Went to sea "Band of Friends" with Gerry, Brendan ONeill and Marcel Scherpenzeel
taking Rory's place in 2019 I think. It was so overwhelmingly good, I can't imagine how good it would have been with Rory. I want to see Rory receiving the attention he deserves, on the other end this would just end with hypocrites like the Hall of Fames. One of the many.
History surely will remember him in a better way sometime soon ♥
@@knispelwedges427 Rory's fans - men and women alike cry remembering Rory. He was such an amazing soul and seeing him in this video is unbelievably sad. I think the medication and alcohol made him spiral into mental illness. He doesn't even look like himself in this video and apparently he wouldn't take help from anyone. Nowadays these issues are better understood. I have seen Band of Friends on TH-cam with Davey Knowles and he is very much like Rory, brilliant player and so humble. God bless Gerry and Brendan for soldiering on all these years. They both look very youthful and are keeping Rory's memory alive. I hope I can see them some time in the future.
@@MoroccanMelody I agree with what you wrote. Especially Gerry and Brendan being as youthful as possible. They both gave everything that night, just like in the old days, there was no difference, except for some gray hair here and there. It really was a night to remember. At the end everyone was singing and dancing (which is somewhat rare for us northern germans :-D), shouting "Rory! Rory! Rory!"

Marc Feltham said Rory hit the strings so hard it made his hands bleed and he would come off the stage smelling of sweat and blood. God Bless Rory, he gave his all to his fans.
