I had a conversation with a non-black friend about the anti-blackness I often see online and she told me it happens to “all women” and for some reason it infuriated me to hear that because like you said, we’re already labeled the “victim” and that crap right there confirmed how tone deaf people are to colorism. It also goes to show you that you need to surround yourself with beautiful black goddesses that understand you and uplift you. Loved the video.
This is such a good take. I don’t have many black friends at this point in my life and I have no one else to share it with, even my mother is so blind to the effects colorism has had on me. I’ll stop. Thank you 🫶🏾
I also stopped befriending non black people who don't recognize our pains and struggles or dont even try to listen unbiasedly. Ive seen in many instances that those are people that Im friendly with rather than my actual friends. I keep them at arms length and dont expect too much from them. It' very easy to overlook this one, especially as women. Another reason is that I dont need people feeling threatened by my wins, I need someone who celebrate all of my wins and not feel threatened by it. I started to identify healthy black women to befriend instead and my life has been better. Friends should add to our lives and make it easier and vice versa not stress us out and take away from us.
Ooooh. This is a great video 👏🏾 . I talked about this on my channel too. We need to Decenter Eurocentric Beauty standards and Create our own standard of beauty for young black women and girls. And I’m tired of being called a “victim” for speaking about Black Women experience with colorism. We need to talk about in order to find ways to combat it and overcome it.
Agreed we most definitely need to create our own beauty standards. We can’t let anyone silence us on our experiences. The more we talk about it, the closer we get to overcoming it. Thanks for watching 🙌🏾
We do have our own beauty standards. The reason why we are copied, often imitated but never duplicated. It's interesting to me that many black women don't understand this. Many of us do though.
Of course colorism exists if you're a dark skinned woman like myself you know it's a fact . I've never had a complex with myself because my mother didn't teach self hatred in our home
Great video. I have just totally decentered men, period. I threw all beauty standards out of the window. I don't even care about beauty defining me as a woman anymore. My focus is on my health, self care, grooming, and good hygiene. Men can be contradictory and unpredictable when it comes to who they find desirable and attractive, and sometimes will suprise themselves. There is the "general rule of thumb" of what is considered desirable, and we know it is cloacked in whiteness. But then you have "exceptions to the rule", "fetishes", "preferences" that goes against the expectations, and those who are attracted to you, because, despite their preferences, there is something about you that makes your desirable. In short, everyone has somebody in this world who loves them and is their life partner.
I love that you’ve decentered men and are focusing on your self care regimen. Health, self care, grooming and hygiene are so much more important. Being the “exception” isn’t as grand as grand may think it is. But I also believe that we will experience genuine love and appreciation from at least one person in our lives. Thanks for watching 💖
Oh goodness I guess I am in sync or we are on sync with Mama Earth,Mama Africa. I have been feeling this way for about a month now and I was wondering how those before us dressed or did their hair, daily routines. I really want to know I feel out of touch with my true self. I want that feeling to go and just be myself fully without a standard from elsewhere anyway....
Sorry don’t please don’t worry about no one speaking nonsense about you or anyone our darkness you are beautiful thanks for John John enlightening me more love please keep safe you are for a reason more more love keep doing you

It’s definitely frustrating when non-black women try the “all women experience it” tactic. Glad you liked the video, thanks fo watching 🙌🏾

It’s important to have your beauty affirmed at an early age. I’m glad your mom did that for you.
@@HarrisPilton789 thank you I adore my mom for schooling me on that and telling me I was beautiful everyday 💯

Omg I agree wholeheartedly. Trying to chase an ideal which wasn't designed in our image can be really damaging. :(

Is Beauty In The Eyes Of The Colonizer
@@corvettec526 It's also in the eye, of the perpetual victim, of supposed colonisers. :-(
