easier said than done when ur constantly being fed the new social media beauty trend, being told that youre not pretty enough and made to feel like your body is a fashion accessory, being told that if u dont live this very specific lifestyle of being a "baddie" that you are not good enough. constantly. lets consider, for a moment, that maybe solving this issue is a little more deep than just "appreciate ur youth!!"

@@mikudayo_biggest_fan3939@mikudayo_biggest_fan3939 part of the solution is don't allow minors on social media. 18+ should be the standard. There is NO reason anyone under that age needs it (with the exception of severe medical circumstances)

Let’s be real here. The reason why there is no “awkward stage” anymore is because we as a society discourage anything that is child-like and society isn’t as friendly to children as it once was. Third places are gone, most adolescent socialising is done online, there is this perception that the world has become unsafer compared to the past and we don’t allow kids to be kids. But if I’m being honest, I believe that the awkward stage has been subliminally discouraged even as early as in the 2000’s. I’m 24 years old, but I could already recall how movies like “Mean Girls” and plenty of other Disney channel movies have been the “precursor” or “prototype” to baddie culture well before it became mainstream. The characters that faced bullying in those movies - look at how they dressed or what sort of characteristics they embodied. They were characteristics of those who were in their “awkward stage”.
Even in our generation, the pressure to be and act grown was always there, but social media has just exacerbated the trends. Me and my old manager from work went for drinks one time and he said how he would hate to grow up as a child in today’s world and I wholeheartedly agree. The peer pressure to conform is so much worse because your mistakes could very well easily be broadcast on social media - even if you are not an active user or participant of social media at all.
Plus being a parent is so much harder because the balancing game has become so much more delicate. If you allow your daughter to dress and act grown, she would be more at risk of attracting very negative and manipulative attention to herself, but if you go to the other end of the spectrum, they could easily be a target or be singled out amongst their peers as they are so much more likely to be bullied as having an “awkward” stage would almost be like a death warrant socially speaking. It’s like you want your child to be protected, but on the other hand, you don’t want to see your child being left out or be the cause of your child being left out socially.
Just some observations from a 24 year old man. This was a great video.

This is my take on this issue, im in my last year of high school, and every time I see a “baddie” someone who wears long eyelashes or wears revealing clothes, I don’t judge them, because some of them are really nice people. I think these people just like the aesthetic, but whatever the case is, I definitely don’t like the idea of people sexualizing baddies. I know people who dress up like “baddies” but they have a good heart, and aren’t people who wear these type of aesthetics on purpose, it’s mostly for their own fashion aesthetic and that’s ok. But it does concern me with the increasing amount of kids that are younger than me dress up so maturely at a young age. When I was around their age I barely had any clue on what to wear and mostly wore a sweater and jogging pants 💀 I love fashion as a whole, but not when young kids wear clothes that make them look mature for their age, or make them look older than they really are.

I wish more people would wake up and take notice that this is not the way to go and that these guys do not even respect you or this style of look... they just want to sleep with you or use you to show off to other men to make themselves look better to their male peers. The awkward stage of pre-teen and teenager is something everyone goes through. The older generations just had the benefit of not having it slapped online for the whole world to see, and not being told that *having* an awkward stage was wrong. We were allowed time to figure ourselves out before entering the wider world. Kids now are out in the wider world before they’ve had the opportunity to grow into themselves.

Yeah, I'm fifteen now but I had the same issue in middle school - 9th grade. I didn't have the best self image and it seemed like the only way I could feel better about myself is showing myself off. The attention I got wasn't good attention, but it was the only thing that made me feel not ugly. It'll get easier as you grow up, you'll find a style that truly fits you and that you're comfortable in. I mean now I get told I dress like a grandma or mom lol. I definitely regret how I portrayed myself when I was younger, so my style did an entire 360 just to disassociate my old self to my current self. My advice would be to not give in, don't dress like this. Especially not when you're so young. You're going to regret it eventually. So find a style that makes YOU feel good and pretty. I dress so extra to school lol, I stand out a lot with the stuff I wear. But dressing the way I do makes me feel good! Also, dressing so provocatively at a young age is definitely looked down on. My friends at the time were going through the same thing so we all hyped each other up, but now as we look back on how we were and seeing younger kids follow the same path, it's saddening. Enjoy your youth, enjoy being a kid. It's cool.

this will probably get buried in the comments, but i’ll share my experience. back when i was around 17-18, i was insecure about the way i dress. people my age were dressing up “maturely”, they would wear crop tops, short shorts and skirt, backless and cutouts. it didn’t help that i also had access to instagram at such a young age, i wanted to look like them; sexy and a baddie. when i started dressing up like them, sure people would approach me but they wouldn’t compliment me, but rather what i was wearing. i had to force myself to wear “sexy” clothes, because i wanted to blend in so bad. now that i’m 22, i’ve thrown out any “sexy” clothing i had and started to wear what i want. i wear light, flowy clothes. i like wearing clothes with characters on it (e.g. sanrio, anime). sure, no one looks at me anymore, but i feel more confident and happier than ever.

If people care only about your clothes or look they are not worthy of a deep relationship. Beauty fades and men who are big on women looks will drop you as soon as you turn 40 for a younger model. Some stupid 20 year old will hook right up to because they automatically assume older men have money and will just take care of them. But in the black community 80% of black children are born out of wedlock. It is 25% for white babies.

I think the younger generation gets a scaled down dose of what life was like in the 90s and 00s. We didn’t have lace fronts but we wore weaves and they weren’t always flawless and natural beauty. You had the 90s baddies who were naked (I had plenty of those friends), the hustler girlfriend who only wore designers, we had trashy women too. To my high school prom in 1998, a girl came dressed as a stripper and wore pretty much only a thong and glass heels. Times are just different and some things changed. In terms of yesterdays impact comparing to how it felt then and now - Lace wigs replaced weaves, being naked was always a thing, sexy red is this generations little Kim, you had the drug addicted rappers - DMX, Old Dirty, rapper baby mothers who became famous. Ari Fletcher and crew are the modern day Misa, Kim Porter, Faith, etc. The only thing that wasn’t popular was surgery, but that was found among the Tracy Bingham girls, Angel Lola Luv’s. Its literally the same script just newer trends

while i agree, in the 90s you were mostly associated with the people you surrounded yourself with. it was super easy to be sheltered to the reality of other people and the way they live their lives because you didn’t really know if you didn’t interact with those people. plus even then, they were mostly seen as trashy if they were doing all that and not in a related industry (modeling, acting, fashion, etc). now it’s everywhere online, and it is becoming seen as the the way that average teens look/dress/act, making more teens feel the need to fit to that standard. not only that, but it’s getting even younger. as young as like 12 or 13 girls are wearing skimpy clothes and makeup, but unlike kids who did that in the 90s, due to the whole world at their fingertips via the internet, kids these days ACTUALLY look like adults. i do see a lot of similarities between now and then, truly, but i think that the 80s and 90s (and even the 00s) eras of acting or dressing provocatively and being rewarded paved the way for the 10s and 20s. it has built upon itself, meaning that it only compounded and has become an even larger and deeper engrained issue.

When we were kids, adults were mysterious and unavailable. They existed only at schools (if you were younger than 18), on the streets, and at family functions. Maybe an older sibling's friend. Nowadays, this mystique and curiosity doesn't exist. The worlds are merged and there's no "under 18 zone" and "18 and above" zone. With a few clicks you can go to an adult's profile, look at their friends, see their nights out, their party outfits, their relationships, their adult problems and adult dramas. So you feel closer to them. It's easier to mix in with them and pretend to be one of them.
    It's sad and dangerous.

As a 12 year old I admit I sometimes give into social pressure to sexualize myself. I mean just today I wore a pair of jeans because they make my butt look good. The thing is at least for me it seems like it’s the only way too get attention, pretty much my whole life I’ve struggled a lot with insecurities and disordered eating, so when I got prettier it gave me a confidence boost when guys gave me attention. So I leaned into it, I didn’t post or actually act sexual but I was pulling up to 6th grade in crop tops and scooping my boobs so I get attention. And I mean it feels nice when a guy likes me or ask for my number, but it’s not that nice when it’s catcalling or sexual harassment or said guy asking for my number is actually a grown man. (Granted I’ve been catcalled in no makeup sweatpants and a hoodie) the thing is the confidence is really temporary, like in the moment it feels nice but not so much when it seems like the only thing people like me for is my appearance, but like I said me and most of the girls my age are super insecure from social media, than social media was like “here’s how to fix that” but it actually just serves men. I feel like the “sexual empowerment” movement was like a trick from men, they were like “yeah women take off your clothes for me-I mean for you, yeah definitely for you! Sooo you gonna show me your ass or what?” Also the whole “thin is back in” (was it ever really out though?) is really nerve wracking tbh as a girl who’s naturally curvy yk
Sorry for my rant and atrocious grammar lol
Edit: Yeah I know that social media is bad for me. The problem with a phone addiction is it’s an addiction, so it’s a lot easier said than done to just stop. I’ve had a phone since 3rd grade, also when it was peek Covid and I couldn’t see any friends or literally even leave the house during super developmental years. I totally get your concern (I hate it too btw), but like I said a phone addiction is an addiction.

It’s normal for everyone to appreciate some level of outside validation from others. So there’s no shame in that. But I just want you to know that more than anything we have to learn to validate ourselves. I have a little cousin that’s a few years older than you and she talks to me a lot about stuff like this.
Recently she was telling me she feels bad because the boys at her school didn’t like her (but she was also like the only Black kid in a mostly white school). But I asked her if she likes these boys or thought they were cute, she told me no. So I told her she definitely can’t give these musty boys that don’t have good personalities, that she doesn’t even like, control of her self-esteem lol. Even if she did like them it doesn’t matter. We all have to work on our self-esteem so we can feel good about ourselves no matter what others around us do.

@Fionas_planet We really appreciate that you're here and sharing your experience. But on a side note - you shouldn't be on any social media at your age. Period. I don't know why your parents let you go to youtube or other platforms unsupervised, maybe they don't know it's one of the signs of not having enough time for one's child. But there it is. Avoid brainrot: get off all social media platforms until you're about 22. If you have enough intelligence to write such an insightful, self-aware comment you SURELY must understand that you hanging out on social media and you having these confidence and body exposure issues go hand in hand. I hope that becomes clear to you after I pointed it out. It's a direct result of "consuming" inappropriate material at your age. If I knew your parents personally I would have told them off for dropping the ball on you like that. I encourage you to take care of yourself and fill in the parenting holes on your own. Find fulfilling activities, NOT entertaining ones.
Moreover: comments such as yours are actually used by intelligence agencies that pretend to be children like you to catch pdf files. I hope you comprehend the implications of that last sentence for you.
Unless you ARE an intelligence agency, in which case - oh the irony!
Other than that I'm wishing you the best, sorry if I was harsh but truth had to be uttered and I hope I don't see you anywhere on social media for a good 10 years for your own sake.

When you focus on things you enjoy like hobbies, special interests, clubs, extra curriculars etc that's when you start to not need this kind of sxl validation from others as much to feel accepted. hang in there! and not to sound old but trust me that life is so much better the less time you spend on social media. even us older ppl are negatively affected by it if we're on too much. it's hard bc the pressure to be online and know what's popular is so high at ur age but trust that you'll find your ppl who don't care about that stuff as much, and will be happy with who you are and the person you are becoming. it's hard out here for girls! just know that with time you will get more comfortable in your skin, it comes with age ❤

I live in Vienna, so in Europe, and I always find it fascinating how popular this is in America. Here in (most of) Europe, it’s almost non-existent. When I see young women on social media posing just to fit into the 'baddie' trend, I find it quite surprising. Every time I hear about rappers or these baddies having kids, it seems like it’s treated as something so casual, as if they haven’t really thought it through or it doesn’t mean much to them. As a European, it also feels like some people want to act criminal on purpose, as if it’s something to be proud of.
(I'm sorry if there are any mistakes, English is not my first language :)!)
Don’t get me wrong! I think it’s great that we, as women, have the right to express ourselves however we want, but in terms of young children, I find it quite concerning. I don’t think you need to show off your body or your figure to prove that you’re confident or independent.

Hi Hannah, I don't get it either. I'm Chinese American, first gen on my mother's side, fifth gen on my dad's. Sexualization/broken homes/deadbeats are a common theme in American rap music culture, and it's never made sense to me. Irresponsible men who willingly go out and have multiple children with many different women are by far the worst financial/family planning ever. Kids don't appeal to me, and I certainly wouldn't want to be abandoned baby mama #4. I pity the children in these infamously public relationships, they will have to deal with their embrassing home lives being exposed to the world as they grow up.
Most of this is the vocal minority, since notoriety and scandal sell. Plenty of regular folks have both parents in the picture to raise children. It's only now that social media has given a platform for people to do 'tell alls' about their own unique parenting/relationship situations.

There’s also minor girls from the suburbs, getting into prostitution just to buy a pair of Louboutins, starting at age 13-14 just because they want the luxury life of their favorite brainless reality show contestant. So yeah, just because you’re not aware of it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. The sad reality is worse than you think.

It hurts me when I look back and not a single day from 16-22 was I without makeup literally for no reason because I simply never gave it a critical thought and said ''it was a hobby'' but it's so insanely powerful and freeing to be at peace with your natural appearance, not feeling the need at all to put on makeup and REALLY just doing it for yourself which is never for me personally and it took me so much unnecessary time to reclaim this feeling when it could've been there all along. I don’t know why men in this generation would much rather get you pregnant then marry you I asked my boyfriend daily does he see his self marrying me and he says not yet that’s a big step which is understandable we just started dating and we are still very young so marriage can be scary, but he is so quick to try to get me pregnant and have a kid with me because he wants a son. maybe I’m just a woman but I can’t see how can you rather get someone pregnant then marry them what kind of math is that you’re stuck with that person for life is much worse because now you’re stuck with them and you’re stuck raising her he little human with them. I’m so tired of seeing every female my age getting pregnant and not even having a ring on their finger. Everyone got pregnant as soon as we left high school like, what are we doing?🤦🏾‍♀️

Men who pressure women into having babies first and maybe marriage later are the worst. Too many men are dangerously charismatic smooth talkers who manipulate and dump women for sport. It's so disgraceful, and many are deadbeats to the children they 'wanted.' In East Asian cultures, we're taught not to marry someone before they have 3 keys-a key to a house, a key to a car, and a key to an office. It's not to be snobby/elitist, but to prove to potential marriage partners that they are a suitable match.
I see so many women around my age (25) who have kids way too young with men who are only talk. It's much harder to complete your studies and establish a career with a kid in tow. I've dated many different men since university, and I made sure to never get pregnant. I vowed that I would never be trapped by a man and have no education or finances of my own. Nothing wrong with being a housewife, but it is too easy to be trapped in a toxic relationship.

Not only is this “baddie” culture negatively impacting this generation, but it’s also robbing young women, ESPECIALLY women of color, of their individuality and the chance do develop or even QUESTION their own personal style because this default is so rigidly forced onto them.
Black woken especially are plagued more than any other race with this baddie-bug that has us assimilating to this aesthetic that a lot of us probably wouldn’t even find appealing if we had the freedom to explore other potential styles. We have to jump through hoops just to looks “acceptable” in this absolutely extreme standard. Please, I know it’s hard, but don’t feel bad about yourself for looking a certain way ❤ don’t ever feel like you HAVE to look like this, you HAVE to get cosmetic surgeries to “fit in.” I’m super self-conscious about my body as well, and every time I’m tempted to get surgeries done, I just think, “I won’t look like *me* then. I’ll just look like every other person ever.” Not that that’s inherently bad, but it’s inherently just not worth the time investment. There’s other things to do which can drastically improve your (self) worth/esteem in more valuable and useful ways. Not to mention, this is a fad, a trend, and they ALWAYS change. NK mentioned how people are getting their surgeries reversed nowadays to seem more “natural.” Well, the most natural (if difficult, but no one ever said nature was easy) thing to do is to learn to love yourself ❤. It’s a lifetime journey, likely unending, but that’s also just like in nature. Nature doesn’t ever just *stop.* It keeps going, no matter how hard things get.

Why not just get off social media.. if it’s so detrimental. You guys know the issue.. and don’t take the pragmatic steps, to make the situation better.

Getting a bbl in your teens is insanity. Also teens are still kids even 18 and 19 year olds are still very young mentally so as the parents why would you let your child get one of the most dangerous life threatening surgeries???

I feel like the baddie culture is at its peak in some countries in Europe right now. All the young girls that I see around (Italy and Romania my countries) have the same aesthetic, they have a really heavy makeup with those specific eyebrows that you talking about and the brown nude lips. Same with the way they dress, a lot of them always dress with tops and pants that enchance their curves, and always with long slick hair and gel nails.
I think one of the differences is the fact that here bbls are not that popular, but lip fillers (those big ones) and fake brows are really popular.
Even the way they behave and talk do resemble the 'original' phenomenon in the usa.

I’m 16, I don’t dress/act like this but I used to want to because I noticed everyone else in a relationship/getting friends and I’m a homebody, antisocial, I play games all day.. but when I see someone that dresses like this I want to be like them but I try to get them off my pinterest/tiktok/instagram so I don’t get influenced to change myself.

It’s crazy because I’m 23 and I always have ppl telling me when they meet me that I look 16/17. The reason is because I don’t wear makeup to fit to societal standards . I wear minimal makeup and always have. I see my cousins and they all have the copy and paste baddie look. So ppl always tell me if I’m the youngest within the bunch. It’s sad to see girls sexualize themselves at such an early age when they should just be figuring themselves out.

Idc what grown women do, but if you're a child or teen trying to be a baddie then that's so embarrassing and sad. These kids think they out here really doing something, but instead they are missing a childhood. Just making grown women cringe and feel bad for them. They'll regret it when they are grown. Human brain isn't fully developed until 25 so ummmm

it’s definitely not right but it’s so sad society makes young people feel like they need to look a certain way to be considered beautiful and sad young ppl even care about that in the first place :(

I’m 37 and never tried the baddie aesthetic. It just doesn’t connect with my personality I guess. It always looked like an extreme amount of time and effort. Especially now that I’m older I can’t be bothered to care enough to try lol. I figure that my standard look will always work, and other things are trends that will come and go.
I know these days there are people that will say it doesn’t matter what young girls do because people shouldn’t sexualize them in the first place. But when we have actual minors portraying images or doing actions that are overtly sexual, should we not voice concern?

Girl, I'm jealous of you. I'm in college and almost everyone is trying to look like a baddie, I sometimes feel pressured to change my style, but just like you, I don't feel like it matches my personality . I just try to be myself and hope I can Finnish school that way

@@sera.finaaa I feel like that’s the best thing you can do. Like, have fun playing around with fashion or style if that interests you. But so many people try to fit the mold, you end up standing out more as an individual that’s not just following the crowd. At least imo.
