I’m so glad a Black woman made a video about which afro hair style suits which face shape. I have watched a lot of these videos and rarely do they touch on afro hair. Usually they talk about styles not possible with Afro textured hair. Even sadder is that it is rare for Black TH-camrs to include Afro hairstyles in their guides 🙄, generally they say you gotta do all this manipulation to your curl pattern for it to compliment your face
That’s where the community currently is, unfortunately. 10 years ago, there were nothing BUT Afro styles on Afro hair. Then it transitioned to everything being done on stretched hair. Then at some point you couldn’t find a single style that didn’t include fake hair additions-because that’s what people wanted to watch and support. Just wash n go’s, silk presses and fake hair. OG TH-camrs would give/accept style challenges or do style inspiration videos. Those videos just disappeared along with those content creators. There were hundreds. That content isn’t available anymore because it isn’t supported.
As a Afro hair guy I'm immediately following. It's rare to have such black aesthetics focused beauty advice here that doesn't condition us into altering ourselves into a version of whiteness
I’m here for this. It’s not a secret that a lot of beauty, style, and “essence” content skips out black hair and features bc it is packaged from a white lens. Like every black feature is not in the natural kibbe category. We carry the whole ranges of essences and shapes like everyone else. And we don’t have to wear wigs and perms to be beautiful. I love Cocoa Styling channel and will be following you as you grow. Keep it coming!
Sis, how did you know I needed a video like this! I love how uplifting you are to us! We've been needing this since the dawn of the natural hair movement. We were told to how to grow our hair but not to love it UNLESS it's long. Thank you! Bottomline: Black women are beautiful!!
Literally natural hair looks so much better on black women !!!! It’s what God intended even if you wear a straight wig the kinky straight looks the best .
I’m going to rock an Afro for the first time tomorrow, I want to switch it up from the usual braids and twists. Thank you for making this video and showing us which styles work best and having kind words to say to all face shapes!❤️
Yeah hopefully the bigger natural hair content creators don’t steal her video concept and adopt it as their own 🙄. As a cosmetology student, we do learn how about hairstyles for all face shapes. But it was never centered around AFRO texture. Great video!
Hi community , i am mixed race black with type 3 hair. I used to focus on straightening my hair or elongation but recently i noticed that my features as an African woman are round and soft and my hair compliments me best when it is soft and rounded. I feel like the truest form of myself with my original unedited hair. I dont use shampoo or conditioner anymore or any style products. My own natural sebumb coats my hair and weighs it down perfectly and sometimes i add castor to my crown area and also aloe and salt spray. I finally love myself truly and i wish this for all my curly and kinky sisters ❤ also consider locing your hair if it does not grow well. Locs and braids/ twists provide strength to kinky hair. Blessings to you all
I have an oval shaped face and I love how you explained the oval. Made me feel even more confident and empowered to rock my fro. I always preferred the side part but now I’m going to try the middle part and pulling my hair to the low part of my head. But I have always love my hair pulled away from my face😁😁 so accurate
I'm an oval, too. I rock a loose puff with tendrils behind my ears. My curl fro straight to the back. It won't stand in the top that hair is spiked out on the ends and a very, very loose wave. In the back, it's a long bob. People don't expect it. Then there is my slick back ponytail into a braid. Water, glycerin, or anything with heavy wetness flattens and straight it. Including brushing oil or grease into it. I love my natural hair❤. I never use heat or heat straight it.😊
As a diamond/heart face its definitely true. When i was like 15 it was actually my middle eastern classmate who told me that i looked better eith my shorter hair because "it showed off my face" As an adult i recently cut my locs and just wear my natural 4c hair in a shrunken state like the video depicts. I started being told that i look younger with shorter hair.
I agree with everyone else here, it’s so nice to see content like this for natural hair! Also, I just have to say, I think a heart shaped fro and long/stretched/triangle shaped natural hair (like how I see yours) literally look good on every single face shape. Curly bangs too!
Twinnn, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!? 😭Thank you so much! This is actually so real, I could really see and understand what you’re getting at it wasn’t just a claim.
Great video and learned a lot! 😊Keep pouring love into the natural community because your absolutely right about the mirror effect. I believe it's rooted in survival and a need for belonging because fear of being left out or unaccepted is painful.
This is so true!!! I played aroind with different styles over the years, and I found out that up-does, high buns and side parted styles (no middle parts) made me look so cute and beautiful..... not realisisng that these fit me due to my circular (babyface) head shape. You are right at circular faces and the ''youthful'' look we tend to have. I used to hate it growing up, but now at 30 years old (I dont feel like it, thank God the Father above) I appreciate the babyface I have been gifted with. Thank you so much for this video. It is so educational and informative.
Right, no nonsense indeed. Tired of ppl saying ish like, "not to offend bw who do (insert relaxers, wigs, etc)", but instead call them to accountability on how what they choose to do with their hair, does have an affect on the young black girls around them.
Yay! -- I found my face shape! 🙌🏾😇: I'm an oval. I always struggled to recognize myself in non-WOC or non-natural face templates 😵💫. I would have to ask my family for help. But here it's so CLEAR. Tysm -- I appreciate it. Just subscribed! 😊
This is amazing!👏🏽 I was just thinking about this - face shape is huge with styling your (natural) hair! But, mostly people talk about it within all the other "normalized" hair types!
I think I have a oval shape face and I swear everything you named is exactly how my husband likes for me to wear my hair : middle part and low ponytails heart shape curly hairstyles (usually felixrod with a bang in a heart shape). My go to are mini twist (which naturally go into a heartshape and blown out fros.
Such a good video, I want to see more of these: dress styles for skins tones, best jewelry combos, enhancing our texture with hairstyles that suit 3b/3c/4a/4b/4c, colour matching, all of it
i look absolutely terrible with box/knotless braids like my face looks fat af. HOWEVER. with an afro, my face is soo tea like it frames my face perfectly (oval shape btw)
Honestly felt like crying in insecure childhood me with a round face and cheeks that got made fun of 😭. The chipmunk comment made me so happy lol. I wear my hair longer when I want to look a little more mature even though I’m almost 40.
Disclaimer Hey guys thanks for watching and supporting me Subscribe to my newsletter (link in channel description) *This video are only suggestions if you don’t like the hairstyles suggested then do NOT wear it!*
I love how uplifting you are to each face shape. I was not a fan of my face shape lol. Lots of self work later I love it but it's still beautiful to hear positivity .
Honestly I resonate with this. I love my natural hair. Aside from it being on the thin side I love how I look when it’s cooperating. But I’ve gotten into a culture of wearing straight wigs cause I feel like it looks more “grown” and it has caused such a divide in my appreciation of my hair . I start to think if only my hair was this straight or looked like this furthering perpetuating my desire to wear it in any other way than natural.
I still have no clue what face shape I have BUT I've been doing mini braids on my hair since 2018. I got bored with it and started cutting layers and bangs. KInda glad I did bc I like the way it covers my forehead and makes my eyebrows less prominent.
Diamond face here! I just want to say thank you for this video it was very informative. I have seen the “face shape + best hairstyle” videos before but nothing ever geared towards NATURAL HAIR/ BLACK HAIR so I really appreciate your insight! ❤
this is the exact video i’ve been looking for. all of the “hairstyles for your face shape” videos on youtube never include natural hair/afros. thank you for making one
Girl you are onniittt. I wear the exact styles you mentioned for my round face (curly buns, longer locs, hair flipped to the side, etc) and they eattt. I also feel extremely appreciated to know I’m so eternally adorable 😂💕 thank you!!
Anotther note for the face shapes with larger forheads: although you may be tempted towards bangs, try adding height through the hair to balance your porportions. I found that this compliments rather than hides and lets you show off all your features. If you have big round lips and a big round forhead and a big round nose big round hair actually goes with your features rather than clashing or canceling out.
literally saw this thumbnail and had to click on it! As a lot of people have already said in the comment section, this video series is so needed and very helpful!! 😭😭😭🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
This is an amazing video! Thank you so much. I have an oval face shape, however, I used to consider it a rounded circle. The hairstyles you've mentioned, I can agree with (for my face shape), middle parts are my go-to's, however, to not cause strain, I always switch it up so a side or sometimes no parting at all. I prefer my hair back because it makes my facial features stand out more, and when I want to look more youthful I put it up. Sometime a higher up-do but not too high, has the same effect. It's highly important to do styles that resignate with our face shapes. We're all stunning in our natural forms! Have a beautiful day!
From this video, I found out I have a diamond face shape, and I feel vindicated in my love for bangs! I always have a bang and I’m happy that this suits me well
You need more subscribers for real, your tips are so helpful, It also helps that we have the same hair type too ! I’m really trying to maximize my pretty privilege this year lol. 💗
I feel loved and appreciated. Thank you for highlight our natural beauty. I also loved to see some brazilian girls on the photos. It's always important to remind us how we're beautiful already.
Thank you for sharing! I have an oval shaped face, and I love wearing bangs either full or side, so I'm eager to try some new styles that are off of my face.
Thank you for making this video especially for black women! I was literally looking for a video like this yesterday and this popped up in my recommended. You're helping out so many people so thank you so much beautiful!! ☺️
Part 2 is now posted!! It includes 3 new face shapes!
I’m so glad a Black woman made a video about which afro hair style suits which face shape. I have watched a lot of these videos and rarely do they touch on afro hair. Agreed! So glad she made this video.
Exactlyy. I'm so happy she made this video.
There is another video that touches on curly hair for the kibble body types by frani beard

I actually love these type of videos makeing a lane of your own nobody doing these type of videos 👏🏾

I love black women and their gorgeous afro hair ❤😘
To think I was strolling through the streets of TH-cam last week to find a video that does what you did in this video. Thank you for this.

What's your other side race?
I love that with my round face, I already wear all hairstyles suggested for round faces. ❤

I have done a slick down middle part ponytail. I try to switch it up and learn what suits my face. 😮 What's your go to hairstyles?
As a diamond/heart face its definitely true.

The way that you described face shapes was so helpful and empowering! 😊
awe thank you!!!
I have been looking for videos like this one!! People never talk about the best fitting hairstyles for natural hair. This was well done!
Yes I've noticed that too! I wanted to bridge that gap!
This is so true!!! I just love this new era I’m about to enter - especially as a 30 yr old. Thank you 🙏🏾 💖
I appreciate the information that you share and your positive no nonsense delivery. Plus... you have great hair!😊

This was a well done video and I appreciate how you showed love to every shape by highlighting their uniqueness.
Of course!! thanks the only way to do it
Very unique video thanks. I would love to one on hair colour❤
Ouu that’s a good idea!
Omg yes
Yess for our different skin colors would be soooo good
I second this!
I am diamond and always felt like I looked better with my hair pulled back. 🎉 Loved this.
glad you loved this!
I love how uplifting you are to each face shape. I was not a fan of my face shape lol. Lots of self work later I love it but it's still beautiful to hear positivity .
This is great ! I have a round face and do all of these styles naturally but they bring so much more beauty ❤
If you want the more "grown look" (Even though your hair in its natural state is grown)...Kinky straight hair will be your friend
I still have no clue what face shape I have BUT I've been doing mini braids on my hair since 2018. I got bored with it and started cutting layers and bangs. KInda glad I did bc I like the way it covers my forehead and makes my eyebrows less prominent.

I have a Diamond and I’ve settled with cutting my hair in a wolf cut (which when in a fro produces an egg shape) which shows my cheekbones.
this video idea is dope and is much needed in the natural hair community ! I love this THANK YOU

I feel loved and appreciated. Thank you for highlight our natural beauty. I also loved to see some brazilian girls on the photos. It's always important to remind us how we're beautiful already.
+ I'm still trying to figure out my face shape but it kinda looks like the oval one, I think
I'm a mixture of oval and circle face shaped.
I never seen a video like this! Awesome!
Thank you!
i'm definitely round and all the hairstyles u said r the ones that i feel suits me the best when i do them🥰🥰 this was great thank you!
Thank you for sharing! I have an oval shaped face, and I love wearing bangs either full or side, so I'm eager to try some new styles that are off of my face.
I have a square shape and figured out early that bangs are for me but not hair on the sides. I'll be trying that one next chance i get. ❤Xx
As a square faced girlie, this is super helpful! 🙌🏾 I be avoiding bangs but you convinced me to try 😩
Don’t do the blunt ones! The ones that frame your face if that makes sense lol
