Some days I want to build a breed for profit fish room. Other days I think I'm nuckin futs! Lol if you know what I mean. I'm scared, more that I won't be able to unload all of the fish. I'm a newb so I've never shipped. Like I have almost 200 brown plecos. I don't know what to do with. Thanks for the video. Always love your insight.

I rent, so there is only so much I can do. BUT if I was doing it again, I would add some of those square insulation stick on thingies to the garage door and wall. I would also add a PVC tube to the wall leading to the garage door, so I could just stick the python end into it and drain water straight out the door. Excellent tips.

Don't forget to check that your electrical system can handle the load you may put on it. Not gonna be an issue in new homes, but man if it's like some of these older buildings in jersey, no bueno lol my building can't even handle the microwave and washing machine running together 🤣

Great information 😊. Btw... I have a ventless gas heater in my so called fish room. It was a room built onto the house for the dogs which turned into a room for my fish. Dogs are living in the house and when we aren’t here... the garage. No heating vents from the furnace in the room so we decided to use a ventless heater. Been working great for the past 4 years. Since my fishroom is technically in a sunroom I don’t have to heat the tanks, except I do have in the discus tank, in the summer because it gets super warm and the water in the tanks are at the right temperature. Only have to use the ventless in the winter months. Thankfully when we built the room on we over insulated. Just wish I had an auto water changer.

Helloooo, Michael! I just discovered your awesome channel, liked and subscribed! I just have one question if you don't mind: can you recommend any books about learning more about fish keeping for Freshwater fish? Every fish shop I go to they're like always giving me the wrong answers 😡 like a angel fish can go with a black goldfish which is the worst idea or that silver dollar fish can go with gourami which is also not right bc they chase them and eat them. So if you can recommend me to a source of learning more about fish keeping independently like books or something it would be greatly appreciated 😊 and thanks. Sorry for long comment.

I’ll do a fish room when I get a bigger house or my children move out🥴. It’s simply a 2nd job.
It takes an enormous amount of time. Taking the time to keep everything healthy. Power supply. Monthly costs.
    Etc.
Love the content my man. Honest information.
Setting up is probably the hardest. Question: do you have a backup plan for like when you have a power outage? Did you put extra power supplies in your house? Like when i would put 20 tanks on 1 power group and turn on my washing machine.. power will shut down xD

Biggest thing I’d do differently in my fish room (46 tanks, ~850 gallons) is vapor barrier the room with the insulation first. All that water has caused moisture issues around the house. Dehumidifier runs constantly.
Would also run bigger pipes in the drain lines (all my tanks run to a sump).

    • @MichaelsFishRoom
      @MichaelsFishRoom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Yup, and fixing the humidity issue now for me, means shutting down the fish room. 🥲

Those were some good tips, the insulate especially.
For insulation you might try those radiant barrier sheets, it’s kind a like bubble wrap with foil on one side, the real easy to cut and stick in to take places and you should be able to slip them over your pipes an air tubing and all of that junk. It might not be quite as good but it’s some thing and it’s cheap and easy and surprisingly it does a pretty good job When you don’t have the time or money to do other options. I like to keep the seat in my car unless ever get stuck having to sit out in the snow to work on it or something, you throw a sheet of that down and you stay nice and dry and warm.
Alexa 😂😂😂😂 Electric, Alexa, same difference. Lol
A lot of people fight with me on this but I think heating, especially when you’re not really a breeder and just want a lot of fish in the fish room is a little overrated come out everybody says you have to have your water at 78 to 80, I’ve always tried to keep my tanks below 75, it seems like a lot of the parasites in it and things like that love those tropical temperatures and almost every fish I’ve ever had does fine at lower temperatures. My guppies and Endler‘s don’t act any different 73.9 then they do 78 and when you’re heating a whole room that’s a pretty big expense in the winter. Breeders probably have to consider that a little more, I think you said before that they breed better or there might be gender changes through different temperature ranges. But as far as just keeping fish and having them healthy there are very few tropical fish that can’t do just fine it’s 72 or 73. When I was a kid I was always told guppies were a cold water fish and I just kept them in bowls or tanks without heaters like goldfish and I don’t remember ever having a problem they still breed those temperatures to, I wasn’t an expert but they seem to do fine to me. Lol.
If you do decide to step up to the next level whatever that was and expand or grow I hope you do great.

Wow Michael, I just looked today at your website and there are a lot of out of stock items.. damn.. you must be busy selling heaps.. I like the rainbird timers as they are mechanical and prefer all my things mechanical for my fish room. I hate electronic things as time and time I have had power outages and electric things need resetting or just don't work when there is no power whereas mechanical it still works and no resetting required. I also have a small generator outside for when I do have power outages, but it is of no use when I am not at home or sleeping and come on who knows the power is out when they are asleep?

    👍 Nice video topic 💦🌿🐟
You brought up some good points. I'm figuring out if I could install the vapor barrier and insulation. My ceiling has no sub floor..its just the wooden floors upstairs. This does have me concerned. I run a dehumidifier 24/7 in my basement since before I started my fishroom. I check for mold, but thankfully, my basement is dry. Same as you, I have a French drain and sump with cinderblock walls. I manually drain my tanks into a hose that runs to the sump. Then I fill my tanks with a python. I'm just getting concerned about debris getting in the sump, like sand, snails or plant pieces. I need to stop the debris with some kind of mesh over the end of the hose. I also need a new Sump. Mine is 30yrs old!!
Any suggestions on keeping the debris out of the sump? Sump manufacturer? Thanks 😊
