    My 2 boys and a daughter all went to RTC in 2001. They did their time and we all absolutely loved it even though 9-11 happened while they were at RTC. It changed the world for all of us but I have total confidence in our Military to protect us. Remember our POW/MIA. There are some still out there. Each is someone's child. May the Holy Ones be with you.

      @@Mjohn_41 It's called New Student Indoctrination (NSI) which is for Navy and Marine Option Midshipmen enrolled in the NROTC program. It's a 2.5 week version of normal Navy bootcamp where they go through an expedited process that normal Navy Recruits go through. This is usually before their first year of college but they may go before their second or even third year if they join NROTC late. Since NROTC encompasses both Navy and Marine officer training they bring USMC Gunnery Sergeants and Staff Sergeants to train these Midshipmen along with the normal RDC Petty Officers that train recruits. They also bring upperclassmen Midshipmen who are in their Junior and Senior years of NROTC to train the midshipmen during this process. It's stressful but you'll get a lot out of it that Army and Air Force don't do.

    Having graduated from Navy Boot Camp in 1986, the Recruit Division Commanders of today were known as Company Commanders then. In those days, if they asked you something, you would reply, "Yes Sir!" or "No Sir!" It seems that today, you would respond, "Yes Petty Officer!", " No Petty Officer!", or "Yes Chief!", or "No Chief!", depending on their rank. It is probably safe to assume that most, if not all if the RDC's who are training recruits now, were probably not even born yet, when I went through Boot Camp, while most of the CC's who trained recruits when I went through, are now retired, and maybe others are no longer with us. I sometimes wonder if anybody I went through Boot Camp with could have become a CC, or RDC, or even a Navy Recruiter.

    • @PaulHoffman-w9y
      @PaulHoffman-w9y หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah , they were CC's back then. I never heard of an RDC until recently. And they were addressed as sir, never by rank. It didn't matter if they were a chief or a first class - always sir. 1985, company 196 ( color company, by the way - I wonder if they still do that ) ?

      Paul Hoffman, I went through Boot Camp in 1986, Company 359, my company graduated with honors. Remember Service Week, the thing they had halfway through? I don't seem to see that in any current video. I wonder if they still have that. The final PT text was the 2 1/4 mile run in 18 minutes in 1986. Now it's only 1 1/2 miles? Seems as if they backed off on the PT a bit.

The chow hall was central for all companies, there were no individual galleys in the barracks. The bakery was run by a obese man , who rode a very small motorcycle - quite a sight to see him ride off in the morning ! He was always yelling " Hurry up, guys " ! I remember pushing these long cylindrical mixing tubs to the scullery while screaming " torpedo " ! I was pretty happy when service week ended !

      Only for NROTC. The moments you see Marines they're not Drill Instructors but rather Assistant Marine Option Instructors which are the Enlisted Marine instructors for Marine Option Candidates for Navy ROTC. Since 2019 NROTC has been giving NROTC Midshipmen and Marine Corps Marine Option Candidates a Basic Training at RTC Great Lakes where they train with 2 Navy RDCs, 1 Marine Corps AMOI, and around 10 Upper Class Midshipmen and Marine Option Candidates/Marine Option Midshipmen who mentor the incoming Freshmen before they head to their respective colleges. The AMOIs have nothing to do with Navy Recruits.

      I went through in the summer of 1985. There was one central chow hall ( Grisholm hall, if memory serves ) for all of RTC at that time. I recall my company ( 196 ) being marched to chow. Recruits stacked their rifles outside in a specific way before entering as you formed up outside. Once inside, there were constant shouts of " Nut to butt " ! , and " Keep your hands off of the brightwork " ! The chow line footage in this video is much different from my experience as a recruit. Also, there was no such thing as the MarlinSpike and a battlestations event, and there were no racks that opened up - just ordinary rows of bunks in the barracks ( we didn't call the barracks a ' ship '. They were just called the barracks ). After RTC, I went to A school up the street to NTC and went to the fleet as a Boiler Tech. I spent 3.5 years on the Kennedy, out of glorious Norfolk, VA ( I hated being in Norfolk stateside, or Portsmouth when we were in the yards, for that matter - it was a deciding factor for me when reenlistment came up. I declined, because I knew that the USN would stick me there irregardless of my choices, lol ).

      Most of the video is Navy Recruits going through standard basic training.
      The beginning where Marine Corps Enlisted are present is New Student Indoctrination for Navy Midshipmen and Marine Corps Marine Option Candidates which are both future Navy Ensigns and Marine Corps 2nd Lieutenants. It's a 2.5 week process instead of 10 and it's meant to give a basic training to the new students into fundamental military customs and the Navy. The Marine Option Candidates will later go to OCS for their Marine specific basic training which is the standard 13 weeks after which they will earn their U.S. Marines patch for their MarPat uniforms.

      Good luck, make the most of it and do your best to not fuck up. You've got 13 weeks and you'll sooner or later make a mistake. Don't hide from it, don't get an attitude or upset when your RDC confronts you about it. Accept it, take the punishment, and learn from it. It'll make life a lot easier. It'd be easiest if you don't fuck up but in 10 weeks I doubt that's going to happen.
