I went to Ft Jackson SC back in 1985 and thinking back on it, it was a great experience. I was kind of a “Private Benjamin” during BCT, lol, so I was frequently on the drill sergeants’ radar. But I managed to pass, qualified expert on rifle marksmanship, and eventually used the GI Bill to help with my BSN. I was terrified of my head drill sergeant but I learned a lot from him and my other drill sergeants. I would do it again if I had the chance.

@25.01 The Di's execute a "Falling Demonstration" to ensure safety that the belay process will stop your descent. That's BS! If the belay man is distracted like mine was in the HURST Master Course, your weight will will pick up speed where he can't stop you, I know. I fell 40 feet and got knocked the fucked out because my belay man was distracted. I survived and finished the course but still have issues til this day because when I knew I was falling, I tried to break and landed with my break arm behind my back. Fucked me up! I now have a VA disability claim. There is a fine line between hard and stupid and I was stupid because I wanted the title of HURST Master. I earned the title but at damn near 60 I feel the injury for life. Still, no regrets. I came into the Marine Corps to do 4 years and I accidentally did 21 years to retirement. The Fewer, The Prouder, The Retirees. Yes, I was a DI from 1991 til 1993, 3rd BN Mike Company, no regrets!

I leave August 20th. I need something to push me in life. I feel hopeless already so might as well get paid to be hopeless right? At least that’s just what I feel like now. I’m terrified but also excited to be pushed to my limits. I just want to be a better person when it comes to myself personally and mentally

Amazing guy, I’m however batshit crazy, I wanted to serve at one point but reality became distorted, I wish in my deepest of all wishes that reality was all there was, but it’s like a bad thought everyone has them and everyone’s not well, so I’m not so sure the draft will even be able to lift recruitment

How you can used the phone

I loved basic training, I worked out before, push ups, sit ups, running... I got a back pack with some books and run. I had a job before I joined so had some discipline. I always went camping, Forest exploring. Basic was tough, yes, but you will look back at it your whole life... will be the best time you ever had. At 80 you will dream to go to basic training again.

This is like Air Force BMT in 1989! So glad my kids aren't joining the military!

I served from 82 to 2003, was a hat at MCRD San Diego later in my career unplanned to avoid recruiting duty and it is still hard for me until this day to see co/op Recruit Training at MCRD SD. Maybe I'm just Old School. That night in June of 82 was a wake up call and I had zero intentions of making it a career but it just happened. I'm glad it happened. I retired, became a Federal Agent, retired from that and now works as a Telecommunications Specialist as a third career. The Marine Corps gave me the roots to success.
