Yep ! It’s sometimes a pain for sure ! The pics of the girl on the deck , all of the outdoor pics were taken using the topcon RE ! Good video. However, after owning the Nikon D200 for over 3 months, it is kind of over hyped by many TH-cam creators. It is good for what it is, in the photography era it came out in. I also picked up the Canon 5D classic and the 5D does a better job overall for me. I think in general the whole CCD sensor craze is a bit overblown. Yes, they have a certain look and feel, but it's not as much "Film Like" as many claim it is. However, I still like CCD sensor cameras. However, for me I much prefer the look of the CCD sensor in the Konica-Minolta Maxxum 7D over the Nikon D200. It looks more film like then the Nikon D200 in my opinion. Sony was smart when they bought out Konica-Minolta cameras. They knew they would get great results from what Konica-Minolta started with. The rest of course is history.
I honestly feel that the hype for the price point is valid ! Minolta 7Ds are expensive and rare unfortunately, I’ve had 2 5ds and the sensors get fried quite quickly ! Plus the A mount glad is fine but primes are rare and occasionally expensive:-( I’d stick by the D200 with the F mount glass…. From a you tubers perspective sir lol Thanks so much for the comment ! Great question. For street photography, when people shoot in less desirable areas, it has been known for photographers to be targeted for their gear. So we hide the makes and models to make our gear look less obvious.
Dude you gotta use flash on the D200. Nikon's aren't like other camera's, they do really good fill flash with just the pop up flash. Set your meter to Center Weighted and drop your flash synce speed to as low as possible, then set to P mode. The D200 is still imo one of the top smartest cameras ever made. It's metering accuracy is still one of the best even in 2024, and likely still will be in 2025. If you're gonna shoot manual you can switch to Rear curtain sync, set the flash sync speed to default. Dial in -1, -2, or -2.3 flash comp. This camera is literally only missing a second card slot and maybe better in camera iso processing.
Does the metering matter that much when using a pop up flash? I'm genuinely curious bc I only shoot natural light but now your comment has me intrigued
@@UniteAndAttack Nikon uses TTL so the Flash is going to balance itself with the camera meter. Your reach is 39ft (Auto) to 42ft (Manual). Meaning you can get full body portraits and group shots with a perfectly exposed background and subjects. This melds light around your subject vs a straight on flash even though it's pointing straight. The lower power is a plus. A typical pop up flash will just fire off a burst of light, you then hope for the best. Similar to those high fashion bare flash snapshots. This thing though sets your ambient light, then fills in the shadows of your subject naturally by matching the ambient (available) light. The D200 commander mode, fires a preflash to slave strobes or speed lights. It can fire off two groups too. My old SB-600 professional flash can't do half of what my D200 tiny pop up flash can do. Nikon small flashes Z50 - 22ft D200 - 42ft SB300 - 59ft SB400 - 69ft The new Nikon Z50 is half as powerful and has none of the D200 flash features. It's still a good fill flash for portraits. Benefit of the D200 pop up flash, you don't need a speed light, flash trigger, or sync cable. You could just add a flash modifier to change diffusion or direction or bounce. It's probably the most advanced pop up flash ever made. What's the biggest benefit? You can shoot at very low ISO values in the dark. The AF illuminator, you can AF in blackness just like a Z9. (9ft limit, unless paired with a SU-800 or Speedlight).
@@UniteAndAttack In short. Yes, metering matters. You set ambient exposure first. Set the flash mode, then flash power output. TTL will do all of this automatically in any of the auto modes. So you just focus on composing and shooting instead of fighting with your camera. I literally just use P mode, Rear curtain sync. Flash Compensation set to 0 -1, -2, or -3 (sweet spot -1.3). It's as easy as literally pressing the flash comp button and rotating a knob once. You can get a perfect sunsets 🌇 and the flash will perfectly light your subject matching the ambient light, making you look like a 20yr Sports Illustrated veteran. Honestly this technology is old. Nikon has been doing this since the 80s on film. Nikon made being a professional easy. I used manual mode for almost 20yrs. I'm kicking myself for not using P mode sooner. The only reason I use Manual is for studio strobes and subjects that don't move. Otherwise P mode even for sports.

I’d get the 300 ! Weather sealed and semi professional for the same money :-) ! Same lens mount same feel just more camera for the same money ! Good luck
CCD is someting special , the "whites" in for instand a water droplet glance is far more realistic then a CMOS, that laks the "dirty colors" ( green/gray, blue/gray , pastels etc ) I found out in time by testing ( hey bloke kan i make some pictures with your D?? EOS??? etc , not bought it all) that the D2X and the D800E can come close. CMOS has the basic colors RGB to dominant I know a lot photograpders that do like the D800E better then the D810 and D850.. you get plastic birds or grass very quickly .. The D800E , no degrading lowpass filter function as the most camera's in those days had.. I often thought, wat will happen if I rip out the D200 lowpass filter ( loosing the AF) wil it even be more crisp? D200 , 1/250 shutterspeed 500mm f4.0 no problem hand held 10Mp caputerd at once with every avalible pixel , D7100 I needed 1/640 , the CMOS scanningproces need more shutter speed ? CCD has something special , the D800E can come close , ( 500 Euro -> 26.000 clicks was a bargain) but the D200 will never go..
Love the fact that it has a range finder for manual focus. My D200 currently has a 35mm f1.8 as its primary focal length. Also that 50mm lens is the 50mm F2H ai lens. You'll need to slightly modify it for it to mount properly by shaving off a small portion unless find one that was converted, and it'll give you exif data.
I bought mine in december 2005 as a present to myself. Haven't used it in a day and next o it is a d700 I bought before there were even batteries for the grip. But if I want a film look, I use my f6 with... film. Or f5 or f100, or fm2n or FE. I love the quote from the movie Kodachrome... ever hold a pair of fake breasts in your hands? No matter how good they look, they're never as good as the real thing. I would never shoot my d200 above iso 400, d700 1600, d850 6400. And the dynamic range of the d200 is limited. I shot the d700 commercially for 10 years and the d850 still blows my mind I'm not clipping shots I know the d 700 would. I don't sell my d200 because they are only going for $100! My f6 was $1000 last year.
How in the Hell do you get almost 1,000 RAW images on an 8GB CF card on your D200? My D200 NEF files are about 15,700kb. 8,388,608kb / 15,700 = 534 images max before formatting. The most an 8GB card can hold is approximately 450.
Lol yep…. Thought the same when I rewatched ! Cards corrupted and lost all the images from it :-( ! I mean it was free but sucks to have lost so many pics. I’m getting better at uploading and storing them for sure . You’d think we’d be better right !

I did the complete reverse of you and moved to the UK from the US.....I recently scratched the collector itch and picked up a D200 on a whim after watching videos about vintage CCD sensors.
to be even more of a CCD cheapskate - how abouts the D80 - has to be the same sensor as the D200 but with less weather proofing???? Another think I notice about CCD cameras is their ability to shoot better infrared conversions than CMOS sensors - not sure why that would be, just my opionion though... perhaps you could get a CCD converted to IR Nikon body and see how you get on with all those marvellous lenses?????
@@robbellphoto oh! thanks!! BTW I've looked up another video about the D200 and it has some parameters in the menu where you can describe the focal length and minimum aperture for the early lenses - the D80 doesn't have that... so 'M' mode for the D80! but I do have an IR converted D80 that I like more than a D5300 CMOS IR conversion. CMOS does have the advantage of live view video modes that CCD in the early Nikon digitals couldn't do.

@@Redheadliner you know …. If you’re just dipping your toe ! Consider the 70s or the 40x Nikon. I also LOVE the D60. I have 2 60s and have taken 2 of my favorite photos of my life with them. Like , amazing image vibe
Awesome video!
Thanks so much ! Love this camera
Oh you also should look for the Nikkor 50mm F2 AI 😱 that lens literally makes everything look especially like film. It's also a really intuitive lens to handle. It's sorta like a Leica lens.
What adapter are you using to mount the Topcon lens please ? Do you get infinity focus ? I thought Nikons were one of the hardest cameras to adapt vintage lenses too.
Yep ! It’s sometimes a pain for sure ! The pics of the girl on the deck , all of the outdoor pics were taken using the topcon RE ! I just put it to the lowest AP then the highest and stopped up and down until I found the sweet spot which for some reason changes all the time :-(. Tough in low light so I had to use light room to pull out the exposure also and this was shot in twilight ! It’s hard but worth it ! RE lenses, urgh ! This one was $30 with the camera , case and another RE zoom lens …. Do you want a video on it ?
Sorry ! Ok the adapter is the fotodiox pro exa-nik
Plus the A mount glad is fine but primes are rare and occasionally expensive:-(
I’d stick by the D200 with the F mount glass…. From a you tubers perspective sir lol
Thanks so much for the comment ! Amamzing
Vibes and retro is for me.Can you do the D3,Thanks
The D3 is STILL so expensive….. BUT , the focus points and FPS mean that the price is warranted for sure. Honestly ; I think I’m going for the D500 and will stop there.
@@robbellphoto I got my D3 in mint condition for400 dollars.Sent it out for clean and adjustments. So awesome I can’t put it down.
Yeah I paid 400 for my D3
How does the topcon lens work on the d200?
Manual focus , and watch the metering !!!! Super vintage vibes for sure
For photo walks, I prefer the D80 'coz it's lighter and uses SD (easier to find and carry a USB card reader than one for CF).
Totally agree ! I also picked up the CF to SD card adapter so all of the cameras now use the SD cards which really helps for this vintage obsession;-)
Most cf card readers also have a SD card reader as well as other forms of memory, I don't really see the advantage considering that
Was that the 'E Series' 50mm lens you put on the D200?
Are we talking about the RE Lens from
Topcon . It’s wonderful
No, the Nikkor lens?
@@kevinsnelling8808 oh ok ! :-) 24-85 afs g was one I used on that walk , also the 35mm afs g 1.8…. And a bunch of others including the old AI vintage 50 which shouldn’t ideally be used but it’s fun in manual lol
Yeah, it was the vintage 50mm, that shouldn't really work! Thanks!
@@kevinsnelling8808 totally works ! Can’t meter through the lens AND can damage the camera apparently but still fires ;-)
I got one with 3000 clicks on it
Wowzers that’s a win ! Keep it for sure
Why do you tape over the Nikon logo?
Nikon small flashes
Z50 - 22ft
D200 - 42ft
SB300 - 59ft
SB400 - 69ft
The new Nikon Z50 is half as powerful and has none of the D200 flash features.
Put an old German Zeiss on it that's slightly soft but deep blacks and saturated color and bring back the old classic look.
Zeiss ?! Are you insane sir…. I do not have that kind of money ;-) lol
I love all these hipster Sony mirrorless shooters!!! Because they are dumping all their awesome Nikons and causing the prices to plummet….I’ve recently purchased a D50, a D300 and D300s….I only paid $33 for the CCD D50….haven’t received it yet, it’s in the mail, can’t wait
Yep I know right. Also the goodwill stores have DSLR cameras as they are larger and look somewhat more dated. But the sensors are DOPE. Did you see my D50 video ? I got an awesome blurry shot of my people with it, only cost me 12.99 also. I mean wow
@@robbellphoto I’m watching it now…..right on!
Want a D2X so bad.
I am living in bangalore India I am thinking to purchase d200
I’d get the 300 ! Weather sealed and semi professional for the same money :-) ! Same lens mount same feel just more camera for the same money ! Good luck
CCD is someting special , the "whites" in for instand a water droplet glance is far more realistic then a CMOS, that laks the "dirty colors" ( green/gray, blue/gray , pastels etc )
I found out in time by testing ( hey bloke kan i make some pictures with your D?? EOS??? etc , not bought it all) that the D2X and the D800E can come close.
Thanks for the awesome feedback ! Glad you’re enjoying the Nikon Fun also !!!
All that and it fully meters with those old Nikon manual lenses aswell.
I have the D200 inmont condition.
Keep it safe
It's not a fat boy! This has been my girlfriend since 2005! Grüezi from Switzerland 😜
Some like em thick for sure ! Lol LOVE IT
😂@@robbellphoto
Great video an photos. But please alternate your clips in video edition. Watching both camera views of you speaking at the same time is annoying. And yes, I have a D200 and appreciate your insights.
So sorry. Just trying to be creative lol ! Totally failed of course :-(
@@robbellphoto Haha, no worries. It was creative for sure! But a bit distracting. Great video and photos, still.
Yeah but don't use Pre-Ai lenses guys !
I paid 69 quid for a mint one, from MPB, last year.
Rare and amazing
Love the camera, have 2 of them both with grips, the grip however does not increase the fps though, great video!
Thank you so much for the comment and education:-)))) happy you love this one also. Kind of wish it had 3 more MPs to make it that little more versatile but still. The sensor is so dope
Why rave about a camera saying it was one of your favourites "always going to be mine" then tell us a month later you sold it?
Great question. And FANTASTIC CAMERA ! I’ve moved accords the country , literally had to pack up and ship everything across the world. The D700 is superb, the D800 is better. So the D200 had to go. Along with other beloved bodies :-( life and family come first
Oh that is understandable, i can relate to this. I have had to downsize my belongings due to home moves as well.
Hummm, now that sounds like a plan ! I’ll do it and shoot the video :-)
@@robbellphoto If you're new to IR -- set the camera to jpeg output and set the B&W monochrome in camera conversion (on the D80)... that way you don't have to worry about the extra steps needed to fix an IR raw file.
Not too good in low light though...over 400 iso you need ear plugs!! Noisy as h@ll
Yo, también tengo una Nikon D200 con MB-D200, y no le tapo la marca.
Thanks for the comment for sure ;-)
I picked up a D200 in a trade and love the camera.
Keep it ! I mean they’re kind of cheap so not worth selling but the performance and colour is amazing
