Nikon made approx 12 cameras with the Sony ICX CCD sensor. A hand full had both the CCD and auto focus motor that allows you to use older F/mount AF lenses. The D200 is the only model known to have the Sony CCD ICX-483- AQA Sensor in it. So you're correct. You get a unique look. Having an auto focus motor in the body allows you to use some older lenses and really get that vintage feel. The World famous Hasselblad pushed the CCD sensors way beyond many other camera makers and still use the technology today. CMOS is cheaper and more efficient but the trade off can be noise. I'm an art photographer hobbyist. I notice unique. The last thing I want my photos to look like is everyone elses. What is it about a 1970's magazine ad photo that draws you in? Like a technicolor film. I first discovered the CCD by accident. I took a CMOS camera on vacation and a cheap D50 I had but never used for a back up. My D5300 24 MP Camera struggled with the humidity. So I bagged it. Took out the D50 with a 50 mm 1.8 D AF lens and took pictures at the beach in bright daylight with my ISO at 100. I was blown away by the images. How sharp and clear the photos were and the colors were different and spot on. This was the look I've been searching for and I got it in camera. I didn't have to take my photos to lightroom. So I did research and discovered the D50 uses the Sony CCD ICX-453-AQ sensor only 4 models used it including the D40 which has it's own fan base. My D50, D100 are limited by the ISO range and megapixels but in daylight? They deliver magic. Use vintage lenses with these. I never understood why you'd use a vintage camera with a modern sharp lens? Take a trip into a time machine. Your D200 does not know what year it is. Some of the most iconic photos of our lifetime time were taken on 6 megapixels or less cameras.

@Dorsdorsdors Thank You for the kind words. I only have experience with Nikon's and Cannon's. All Nikon's with CCD sensors in them have a variation. They are all Sony ICX sensors but a different batch if you will. If I had to choose. The D200 is the older camera I'd pick. If I had to pick one. But it's really a win win situation. Why the D200 1. It has an autofocus motor, 2. It's 10.2 MP plenty for what I do 3. It's has a very unique Sony CCD sensor. No other camera in the Nikon line has the ICX 483-AQA. For example the D40, D50, D70 D70's all have the Sony ICX 453-AQ. I get a different look with the D100, D50, D200 even though they all have CCD sensors. The MP size may be an issue if you are going to make poster size prints but for just great pictures? It's a no-brainer. Dirt cheap. Paid $40 For my D50 with 1,800 clicks. Paid $70 for my D100 with 6,000 clicks.

I don't think so, the d70 has 6.1 megapixels vs the d200 with 10.something. possibly could be the same just different megapixel count? Idk for sure @@bijosn
The way you feel about this camera is the same way I feel about my Canon 5D classic. The images are truly different, they just are in a unique way.
I’m a total Nikon bitch, but even I love the original 5D. The grain at high iso is as I can explain it, whisky jazz and a good cigar.
Exactly, that's the same experience I always have with my D200 photos. I'm glad I still have the D200 in 2022.
I used to shoot live bands in Seattle back in the early to mid 2000’s and the D200 was my beast. Started with a D1, then D100, D1H and then picked up a D200 as a backup. The shots reminded me of when I shot slide film back in the day and had the lab push process. It was my go to camera and then the D3 came out, it totally eclipsed it. I still love the D200, and you’re right about the CCD look. It’s more film like for me.
This is now the 3rd time I've watched like 20+ videos of this channel in one sitting. I don't know why, but these videos have such a great re watch-ability. and they're really relaxing too. :) thanks for making.👍

Just an update. Between this review and some reading, I bought a D200 recently. Main reason: the D200’s metering supports any manual focus Nikon-F mount ai or ai-s lens, new or old. Really enjoying using some of my old 1980s lenses. Keep up the good work, Steven!
I got a d200 about eight weeks ago to compliment my d700 pandemic purchase. Using cameras like these nowadays is like driving a car with a broken radio, or taking a walk without a phone. It’s just nice to be in your own head and making pictures without having to constantly interact with a device. I do appreciate my Z6 and Z50, but after a while all the information, focus and tracking boxes jumping around in the viewfinder starts to wear me down.

Agreed. The build quality of the Z6 is also very disappointing. Cheap plastics and buttons. At least compared to the older DSLRs. I find the D 200 even better than the D700 in this respect. For example on off switch and door cf card compartment. Older D200 might have sticky control wheels. I bought anonther for 50 dollars and fixed that with some WD 40. My son is using it now.
I’m pushing 70, been shooting Nikons for 56 years, everything from Nikkormat FTN, to D800. I have two favorites, F5 and the D200. Maybe I like the D200 because it feels very much like the F5. Out of the 57 cameras I’ve owned the two that are left in my camera bag are both low mileage D200’s., and that’s fine with me.
My favourite is the D300 I love the pictures from it...
I had one back in the day. And yes, whenever I’m looking through my old files. They stand out in a good way. New cameras have become clinical and too perfect.
I just picked up a D200 along with a D300s. I’ve owned a number of Nikon bodies over the years but never had a “pro” level body like this one. Really fantastic grip and handling. I love your take on how emotion plays a role in the photography experience. It’s an argument I often have with friends and colleagues. I’m very connected to the Nikon D70, which I got back in 2005 and haven’t felt the same way about a camera until I got the D200/300 in hand.
The D300 is a beast one of the best to mind even today.
Great review. Very well laid out. I just found your channel. The Nkon D200 was one of the best cameras have ever used.,and have used and tested a few on travel trips, home vacation , and paid shoots. At the the time when was new I kept Chasing the new thing every now and then. 20 yrs later i have learned better. I am buying this camera again, because i miss it so much, and the price is right. I've had a D200 for about 9 years. I thought that the 10.2 megapixels was a negative until I really gave it a chance. Also, looking back at my D40 stuff from 2008-2015 I realized why I liked that camera and it's CCD so much. Thanks. BTW, I'm a retired professional film photographer of 32 years who switched (partially) to digital about 8 years before the D40. Cameras that give their own unique look are what I like.
You've hit the nail on the head. This is what's important for my creativity. I've been wanting something to use with the old nikon lenses that I shot with my old Nikkormat and even though the 200 camera isn't full-frame, It would be great for that purpose. Realistically I wouldn't carry around one of those old FF monsters very often. I see several of them for sale in my area for around a hundred euros. Wish me luck. I've been enjoying your channel. I have a D7100, D40, and today I just ordered a D200 from MPB. The only digital on my list any more is a Full Frame - possibly D610. After that, I will begin the better glass journey. I'm no professional, but I definitely get a different feel from my D40 photos, I hope the D200 will continue this. I have no complaints about the D7100 (it replaced my D90 years ago), but I always loved the D40 results. It's so great that the prices are so reasonable today. Same with my film camera collection. When the switch to digital came about, I never thought I would get sentimental about a digital camera like I felt for my FM2n. Surprise!
After I picked up the D80 people kept telling me to try this one instead. Looks like everything I loved about the D80 and then some! A nice pro body for cheap, those CCD quality images, great mount with loads of lens options. Nice review!
Thanks James! Someone else asked me about the difference between the D200 and the D80 and I’d say the body is probably the main thing. I’m guessing image quality is pretty similar, but man, the D200 has such a professional feel for such a cheap price!
This as a toss up for me and the d200 won. $83 with 3,479 clicks. Looking forward to using it along side my babies M8. It will be interesting to see the difference in rendering. Thanks for both of your videos.

Nice 3000 clicks is very clean, just bought one with 8000 clicks also very happy, cant wait to recieve the order, altough it will come without any lenses, do you have a recommendation that you are using? Have fun shooting this CCD beaut!
@@elyad67 i only used the 35 1.8 Dx lens. It’s a 50mm equivalent on the d200.
Great video and I couldn’t agree more! I really love older cameras like this. I started out with a D50, D80 then D200 way back when. Nowadays for real estate photography/videography I really have to use mirrorless to do what I need to do. But any time I want to just go out and shoot I take my old D700 from 2008 cause it just inspires me to create. D700 is my favorite camera of all time. Although video is making me wanna pick up another D200 just to enjoy.

It's not just you. I agree with this sentiment 1000%. The D200 was my very first DSLR, which I purchased second-hand in 2008. I still use it to this day for the very reasons you outlined in your fantastic review. The D200 is also very accurate with manual focus Nikon lenses thanks to its focus assist, which is quite helpful when shooting with a lens such as the Micro-Nikkor 55mm ƒ3.5. In my collection, this camera sits right beside a D700 and a Fujifilm S5 Pro, and sometimes it's so hard to pick one before a photowalk; it's an embarrassment of riches. But each of these DSLRs have *character*, as you say, so in the end it's just a matter of rotation. They're all my favourites, so it's just a matter of taking turns, haha!

In my opinion the d200 and s5 pro are very similar but distinctly not the same. The s5 pro handles colors a bit differently but the look is quite similar. I think you will like it a lot as you like the d200.
I waited for this one for years. Really. You reviewed almost every cameras I ever used. Except this one.
4:04 beautiful ! These CCD sensors actually keep getting better with the new raw software/developers - and noise reduction technologies. If you keep the iso low (bellow 400 iso) they will produce marvelous chrome like images and grade very well. My first DSRL was the Nikon D40X and despite the small screen It made incredible portraits and landscapes even at 10Mp. I purchased 3 D200 cameras since then and a few D60 and D3000 (bigger screen) cameras to be sure to have enough of them if one dies. I call them the mini Leica M9’s.
I initially bought one for a take around without too much worry if it got damaged or stolen, but loved it from day one. Lots of buttons on the outside mean that the most useable things you can do on the fly instead of having to dive into menus. Now I take the D200 out as it just feels so nice to use compared to my newer camera's to be honest. I think manufacture's now are throwing lots of things into camera's to out-do their competitors and now missing the point of what a 'good' camera is! This is a keeper for me personally.
Ive recently become obsessed with getting into photography. As any newcomer to something, I immediately started looking at brand new entry level cameras. Even then, the price points have been too high for me as I'm a struggling college student. I'm happy to have stumbled across your video because it informed me on not needing to have technical perfection that many new cameras provide. I want something that gives a unique feel, and I believe I've found it, especially at this great price point. Thank you for the fantastic review.
Agree with everything you say about the subtle 'niceness' of the D200 images. I went from D40 to D70 to D200 to D300 - then took a step back as I just didn't like the D300 images compared to the previous cameras. I now have 8 (yes eight) D200's, when I see them going cheap I grab them - often they just need a good clean, the rubbers cleaning and re-gluing. Maybe a sensor clean and some fettling with the switches as well but its satisfying.

I inherited a D300 last year. My first Nikon, I've been a Canon shooter for many years, but I've been enjoying my photography getting to know the Nikon and using it as much as possible. I've bought another lens for it and some of the missing accessories. It's great to continue to use this camera after my friend passed away. He was clearly a Nikon guy, because I also found some of the third party books for the D300 which has been a great help to me.
I love that it doesn't have video... I prefer to only take stills. I will be continuing to use the D300 for many more years in the future.

Really excellent little talk - you've got me interested in trying one. I see camera sensors and like different films - they all have their 'look'. The D3 and D700 actually have the same sensor the Nikon have still managed give the two cameras a similar (but different) look.
Enjoyed the video, Steven. I took up photography as a hobby in December 2020 with a Nikon 1 J1. Replaced it four months later with a brand new (honestly - zero shutter count) D3100 for £215 (~$260). I had that for a year before I saw this D200 on eBay for £90 (~$108). It had taken 1800 shots, and when it arrived it looked brand new in its box. Since April I've taken it with me wherever I go, and it's no exaggeration to say I've learned so much about photography just because I chose this camera. Compared to the D3100 it feels like something special when you pick it up.. I can't see myself replacing it any time soon.

As always, great review! I don't own the D200, but the Fujifilm S5Pro, which shares the same body. The feel is great, really high quality, everything's so "pro"! And you're so right, everything's the same today, it's so refreshing to go with a camera, that gives you more than the latest and greatest specs! Character and fun! The cameras of this time are more than tools. 👍🏻

Saludos desde Rancagua, Chile. Tengo una Nikon D200 desde el 28-01-2020. Usted lo ha resumido a la perfección. Una gran cámara todavía hoy. La compré usada en Tienda ByH, y llegó como nueva. Los pequeños detalles fueron solucionados. Creo que es la única Nikon que tiene 3 Premios a nivel mundial en 2006: El GP de Japón, el TIPA de Europa y el DIWA de Estados Unidos, como la mejor DSLR de gama media alta. Le compré el Grip MB-D200, y quedó maravillosa. He visto muchos videos actuales y pruebas técnicas a fondo. En todo, gana lejos.

Well, not me. I’m a lover of old cameras because they produce lovely images. Being a Canon user I’ve been looking for CCD sensor large pixel camera for a while already. Nikon D200 looks very interesting and tempting. I am also examining D40 with even larger pixels however; D200 might be the right choice due to its additional advantages. Also checked on the net, it’s available with most of the used gear dealers.

Funny, this video started playing by itself in my computer and at first I thought, "A blind person giving a camera review?" But I agree that the D200 is a great camera, I shot catalogs for a mayor company with it, the only thing I wish now is that it had a bigger rear view screen. I'm a pro since the 1960s, all manual era, and even that now I have Nikon Z, and Sony A7s cameras, the D200 is still one of my favorites and has a lot of nostalgia
I was lucky enough to have my moms D200 when I started learning in high school. I have a D500 and Z7ii and there is something about the noise and filmic look of the D200s files that can’t really be replicated with something else in terms of out of camera files.
A great camera. Still use one today and the images it creates are far better than smartphones in good light. The CCD sensor renders beautiful, punchy colors and the images feels film-like but modern. Due to the rising cost of film I use mine as a "digital film camera" as it can accept most vintage manual focus Nikon lenses.

I've had this camera about 3 years an finely sold it. I've bought it bacause of CCD colours. In some situations they're good in other not so. But it was interesting to discover how different the camera coworks with different lenses. With Tamron 16-300 it became great combo and produced a dicent results. The same time Nikkor 18-70 witch I loved, looked as a weak kombination to me. With 85 1.8 D200 gave even better result than much younger D5100. So when it pared with right optik its a beast!
I totally agree. A great camera will always be a great camera. Especially in the hands someone who knows what they are doing.
It arrived today Went shooting for a couple hours and I’m very impressed with it. Lots has been said about the build quality & it is very good. The images are superb. Clearly the CCD provides distinctive results. I’m looking forward to using it more

I agree! I love my D200. I just got it out today and was planning on selling it, but then I looked at the low prices they're going for. Then I took some sample shots and I love the way the camera handles and the images that it takes. I like the focusing, it's fast and accurate. I love the optical viewfinder. I think it was one of the best Nikons ever made. The CCD sensors are just sharper and more like film, very smooth, not grainy. I love it with my 55 f/2.8 micro lens, manual focus or even with a new 18-55 AF. I had one of the older 18-135 lenses initially which focused down to 9 inches at the 135mm end, nice. The 35mm f/1.8 is great on it. I love the shutter sound and feel. What's not to like? And 10mp is sufficient. I can get sharp 13x19 prints from it. I would prefer the SD cards that the D300s uses, but the D300s doesn't have the CCD sensor. I loved the original Canon 5D too, gorgeous creamy smooth images, fast focus, and perfect WB in any mixed lighting, BUT I could not get past the battery issues. I replaced the internal battery, but still had problems with it not recognizing recharged batteries. Nikons never give me any grief with batteries. That's worth noting.
My aunt lent me her d200. Was my first camera that got me into photography. I would also say I love older senior cameras, I don’t really care for the most sharp and “cleanest” photo out there. If I want super sharp I’ll just use my 15 pro. The d200 just gives me a different feel same as my x100s and Pentax Mx-1.
Got this camera in a trade. Was really impressed with the feel and images. Good Nikon glass on this body makes for some stunning images. Also, I have fun shooting double exposures on this camera.
My old D200 use to put out beautiful colours with my landscape photography. I moved up to a D7000 (work camera) and then to a D750. The newer cameras are good but the D200 had character. The only thing was that I wouldn't shoot above ISO 400-800; a bit noisy but shooting at its native ISO 100; superb imagery...
This body is clearly one of the best CDD cameras ever produced. And I totally agree on the fact that the feel is very spécial. You take photos with it, you don't mess with all the options and menus of modern cameras.
I also don't know why, but I used to mess up photo less often with my old Canon EOS400, i picked it up used for 150€ back in 2011. It's not a ccd sensor so they don't give the same feel, but the jpeg were good enough somehow 🤔
@@KahruSuomiPerkele I can relate. I have a 5D Mark II, and I spend much more time looking around and being aware of the environment that surrounds me. New cameras have so many technological options that it distract us of what we want : taking photos.
Today , or even when Nikon introduced the D200 it was a camera so far advanced than anything that existed even in the 1990’s . Yes ! If you are a working professional $$$ that your livelihood depends on your equipment to fulfill your service etc then by all means but current cameras . However, if you love to photograph and the art of photography you can STILL produce world class photos w/ Nikon D200 all understanding it’s limitations ! Thanks for your honest review !👍👍

What lens did you use for this video hooking your arts of the video?
I sometimes think that tech companies bring out models that are just hands down the best for that time period. No half measures but each function being the best it can be. This is usually due to a dip in market share which when released should help stabilize their position as a product leader at that time. The D200 is one of those items. A lot of times this is compared favorably to the pro D2x. Apple did the same with the iPhone 7 which was a huge leap in tech even though the body was shared with the 6 series of phones.

So I’m a commercial photographer here in the UK and use dual body D850’s and I’ve just bought a used 200 with 1000 shutter clicks. Nope it makes little sense really and I’ll not use it in the business but for £150 with the grip and extra battery I’ve little to lose. I had one back in 2005 and I sometimes revisit the Raw files. No, you don’t have the low light performance, anything from iso640 and things are beginning to look dirty but that's about my only gripe. A great channel, thank you.

Thanks so much for your regular musings about yesteryear cameras and particularly the D200. So interesting to hear your comparison with the Oly E300 in terms of the feel of the image.
It seems to me that this apparent interest in rediscovering these older technologies is a clear kickback against the sterility of modern day photography gear. By this, I think I'm referring to AF systems that effectively offer guarantees of focus lock on practically all manner of beasts, or low light performance /image stabilisation that mean tripods or external flashes are not required. My analogy is like: hunting for wildlife in the woods with a fully automatic machine gun and infinite ammunition to make sure you get the kill? Presumably, it's the excitement of the tracking, the quiet stalking, the doubt of future success and the gradual development of your skill and understanding your prey that give reward? (Never hunted in my life so the analogy is probably a bit strained).
Anyway, I'm sure people made similar observations in the 90's & 2000's and yearned for film and what had been lost with advent of digital...
Well said, Cliff! It’s funny, I was talking to Alexis (One Month Two Cameras) in the comments of one of her videos a few months ago about film cameras and she suggested the Minolta 7000i. When I was researching that camera, I realized I had forgotten how controversial it was back in 1988. The magazine articles from the time were filled with comments from pros who didn’t want a “computerized camera” making decisions for them. Things that seem so common nowadays like autofocus or Aperture Priority were just too much for so many people. I guess there’s always gonna be that part of us that just wants to get back to our roots - just get away from all the technology and do photography in its most purest form.
I just purchased a D200 and you are absolutely right! This camera is a beast! I can mount my AF-S and AF Nikkor lenses to it and go to town. I’m going put this rig through its paces!

The d200 is a ccd colour king. Despite owning the latest and greatest (well, d850 and 810) I still love it. Every sensor has its own unique signature in my opinion. I uses to love debating this on dpreivew. Nice video and nice samples too buddy.

Beware that some of the early production models had issues with sensor striping/banding/corduroy effect
in some (most often low) light situations.
I've got one with this problem and a newer copy that's clean.
Not sure if Nikon are still fixing these?
I totally agree with your analysis. I own the D2X and a D3100. I totally love my D2X. Keep the videos coming. I'm going to buy a D200 now.
How would you compare the image quality from the D3100 and the D2X (resolution aside)?
@@totalrandomtechnolog they actually look really good. even tho they are APS -C sensor. the pictures I take with them are very detail and sharp. No complaints whatso ever. Of course I would love to own a D3X or D4 but I am waiting for the prices to come down.
Hi, after I stopped photos work in 2020, I bit the bullet and got back into it with... guess what, a D200 with a 17-55 2.8 and 70-300 Tamron for such a good price I could not let it slip. Right away I have to say I am impressed by the build quality, the previous owner went everywhere (Iceland, USA, Malaysia, Kenya, Japan... non-exhaustive list) with it and it has shown very little wear. Ergonomics are great too, I did not spend much time tinkering unlike my D3200. Going to use it for vacation shots, sure newer cameras have more pixels and a gazilion focus points but a good photo has never been about megapixels anyway, and if it was everybody would shoot Hasselblads!

I think i understand what you mean here. But mine is the a Nikon D700 and a Canon 7D. Those camera just feel right to me. And I'm getting a D200 very soon 😎💛
I have D50 and D80. Both with CCD. I totally agree with this video.
I got my hands on a D60 from a family member and I love the color that came out of the images from that camera. Yea it is not perfect and a bit outdated, (the low screen resolution, no live view, the wonky viewfinder sensor, and having only 3 focus points.) but for someone who wants to start getting into photography and is a beginner or for someone who doesn't care about specs and just wants to take photos just for the sake of taking good photos then this camera could be for you.
I’ve been looking to get an older CCD sensor camera and this might be the one to get! For the price it seems like a no brainer!

Yeah - how a camera feels in the hand and how the images look beats the megapixels x ISO algorithm. And actually, how a camera feels in the hand is often the key thing. My D700 is huge and heavy next to my D50. Which is why the D50 goes for a walk more often than the D700. That was a real surprise. Great review for the intangibles, as always.

Its the "digital grain" that makes these fun to use still. I remember when they came out people complained about the grain and that's its not ultra sharp, blah blah etc etc. i loved it back then and I still do, they look unique, the bokeh is just different. As a painter making something unique is what we strive for and I try to get that into my photography too, I think those same people complaining about it back then have probably turned around and jumped on the "they were better back then" ship lol.
I just ordered one and a 16-85 lens. Looking forward to seeing the image quality myself. I've been on a camera buying binge to compare color etc, so now have received (or have on order) a Pentax K10D, Nikon D200, Olympus E-500, Sigma SD14 & Panasonic GF7 - all with mid level (better than kit) lenses. In addition I picked up a Canon Powershot Pro1 & a Fuji F40FD. I should probably also get a Konica Minolta/Sony CCD era camera, though I owned (and stupidly) sold a KM 5D years ago, so I have a lot of experience with that look. I also picked up a Sony RX100 (1) to get a few different choices in terms of comparing to CMOS (I also have a DXO One that is super cool, a ZV1 (which admittedly should be close to RX100) and my main camera the Panasonic S1R. Sorry for the long list, helps me remember what I bought LOL.
I love the D200. The only complaint I have is that you can't push it very hard in post or you start getting pretty bad noise. If you expose properly you'll be happy.
I feel the same way. About my Sony A200 w CCD sensor and the Minolta lenses!

If I'm not mistaken CCD sensor's have better image quality than CMOS sensor's at the expense of efficiency.
I still have a D200, very accurate meter. This is one camera I've never needed Raw files.

Took one of these to China back in 2009. Super impressed by the AF, never once impressed with the IQ. It’s surprising to see people love these old CCD sensors. I appreciate your respect for the AF.

I bought one new in 2005 and I always secretly HATED it because I really wanted the D2X. I hated the pop-up flash because it felt amateurish. I hated how small the viewfinder was. I hated how slow it was and how fast the battery ran out. And, after I did a shoot with it I always felt the images were far too soft. It was NOT a good relationship! A couple years later I got a D3 and I was IN LOVE. Today, I use D4S’s and Df’s and I’ve never been happier with my camera gear.

Thanks! All the sample photos were shot with the Nikon 35mm f1.8 (mostly cat pictures lol), the Nikon 18-55mm kit lens (the landscape photos) and the Nikon 55-200mm kit zoom (the telephoto shots of palm trees and stuff like that.) I’m really surprised by how good that old kit lens and kit zoom are.
My father picked one up in pristine condition with extra lenses and gear. I’m going to colombia for a year and wanted to document my stay. Would I be better getting a cheaper modern camera or sticking with the ds200? Thanks!

you done an excellent job at decribing the Nikon trust me I watch tons of videos and not one expert explain the importance of an good camera like you the only Nikon I owned was the d3000 and d3100 but now I owned five different canon eon rebel after how you explained the Nikon d200 ima toss all my other camera to the side I don't care how much the Nikon d200 cost ima make this my next purchase hey I just hit like and I subcribe to your channels but I make sure if it something I don't understand about a camera ima personally ask you I love this video and I appreciate you as well
Compliments for your excellent review. I started using better cameras like the D700 after hearing from the angry photographer but he is all mixed up in Fuji right now and hocus pocus. D200 is better than the D700 because it is a bit smaller and gives an even more film like result. Bought me first on ebay for 150 dollars 3 years ago and an other in vintage condition 2 years ago. Walked into a camera store last week and saw the salesperson looking with envy at my D200. It is a statement that your serious about photogtaphy and know how to set ISO, shutterspeed etc. When shooting in a city nobody objects when you are taking pictures. Decided to take this experience to a next level and bought some serious lenses to complement the quality of the d200. The 17-55 f2.8 and the tokina 11-16. Almost new not cheap anymore. More expensive than some Z-lenses but there is a reason for that.....

I have the body of this camera (and it works fine )but I have no idea where to buy or what lenses are comparable with this camera
I've had two D200s and two D300s and gave them all away since 2021 because (compared to modern Nikons) the controls on the back are just plain clumsy and they slow you down if you're using these models for commercial work. Don't get me wrong. Both the D200 and D300 were fun to shoot after a shoot with a D810 or D500, which are both much more elegant from a controls perspective. That's why I kept those older cameras for so many years. I'll further endorse the hefty/rock-solid construction of the D200 and D300. But, let's not overlook their faults or shortcomings when compared to modern Nikons when used in commercial applications. There's a reason why Nikon changed the ergonomics after those models. I would choose a D810 or even a D7100 for a wedding over a D200 or D300 every time because these newer models simply speed up workflow in a production setting.
I regret having not kept at least one D300. It's fun to drive in the same sense as it is fun to drive a 1965 Pontiac GTO with no power steering, no A/C, no rear-window defroster and a radio with a telescoping antenna that you can only raise/lower by getting out of the car. But, the GTO is no fun to drive to/from work in the dead of winter. Let's not overlook that flaw for the sake of nostalgia.
I genuinely APPLAUD this video. Please don't misconstrue this comment as being hostile to your effort. You're also not alone in raving about the Nikons of the middle oughts. But, I lived through film. I lived through early DSLRs. And I remember most of the flaws I wished Nikon would fix in their next models. And, they did. As such, my opinion is that there should be balance in videos wildly praising the old models. Despite how good an image they could make, the truth is that they were/are clumsy. They were NOT amateur models. They were targeted to working professionals (witness their prices). Working pros do not want "clumsy". Nor, did they want "clumsy" twenty years ago. Fact remains, the D200 was clumsy to use on a shoot-for-hire compared to just about any model after the D300.
Sample pics. Cats,plants,trees,buildings and then a blond stunner 😊. All jokes aside I’ve got the d200 and the d300s and a d700 I use the 300s the most.
