  • Nikon D200: Hi everyone in this video I will be introducing the newest/oldest Nikon camera to my camera collection. The Nikon D200. I have been wanting this camera for so long and I finally was able to get it at a great price. It uses almost all types of Nikkor F mount lenses and you can even add a camera grip to this camera to gain some extra battery life. It is a fun retro ish Nikon Dslr that is fun to use but feels very sturdy and well made while using it. It is the Nikon D200. Below have listed accessories for this camera, if you are interested in checking them out. The nice thing about this camera is that it takes the same battery as the Nikon D80, Nikon D90, Nikon D300 and the Nikon D300s and the Nikon D700 so that is a win!

    I just purchased a d200 from a fellow Nikon user on offer-up in so-cal. He listed it for 75$ with a 15,500 shutter count and as close as flawless as you could possibly get. I was really surprised to know that he had the listing up for several weeks before i inquired. I'm so glad i did though, it is an absolutely amazing camera. Once i met him in person, he actually let me have it for $50! He was happy it was going to someone who was going to use it. We had talked photography for a good couple minutes so he could tell that it was not going to just sit in the closet forever. Now i have my d70s that i removed the hot mirror to view full spectrum and the d200 for regular visible light. The 2 CCD powerhouse combo is really fun, and incredibly affordable!

    You can find the sensor from the D200 in other cameras like the D80, D3000, Pentax K10D and some Sony cameras. But the output from the D200 is what i like the most 🙂

      Hi.
      I also have a D80 camera. I would like to ask if it would be worth replacing it with a D200 model? It is now available for €70 with an 18k shot. I don't know if it's worth it. Thanks for the advice.

      @krisztianivanics369 Hi as a user of both cameras I would say they both have the same image quality. Unfortunately I believe that I got a copy that runs a little yellow in the sensor but the d200 is an older camera than the d80. The d200 has a lot more functionality though and will shoot at a higher frame per second and has a much higher buffer rate. The menu is a bit outdated though on the d200 and viewing your images is a little more complicated but it definitely feels like a nice sturdy camera. I would say that the D80 has an upgraded version of the d200 in it, it's just not as fast. The D80 also takes SD cards whereas the D200 takes CF cards. For me the D200 color science feels like film and it has a nice digital grain at higher ISOs when you want an artistic look especially at night. It's a fun camera and if you have the money to add and not replace the D80 I would. The CCD sensor is quite unique and is loved by many. If you do end up getting a d200 I suggest you get a battery grip down the line as well. It is a nice add on and gives you even more battery power. Both are great cameras one is just older. Hope this helps! That is a great deal for that camera especially with that shutter count. If you have more questions please feel free to ask. Have a great day!

    Nice video! I got a D80 back in 2007. It just died a few months ago. I got a D200 as replacement, and I just bought a second copy of that 😊. Now I have many cameras, but I still like these old CCD sensor cameras.

      @KimHojbergJensen Thank you so much! That's when I had gotten my D80 as well. Unfortunately the shutter on the Nikon D80s aren't built like other cameras. I have seen so many out of commission on the market its sad. The D200 is a very nice camera especially if you acquire the grip that was made for it. I love its CCD sensor. It gives off the feel of film and is beautiful especially when pared to a really nice lens. Thank you for watching my video. Hope all is well!

    Cool video Chris. The D200 was my 1st DSLR. Glad to see you ended up on the D300s. That was or so far my last DX for now. The D200 served me well only lacking LiveView for my macro focus. The CCD vibrance & dynamic range was brilliant.

      @K Hanscombe Thank you so much!! I am anxious to see what the Nikon D200 can do. I started out with a CCD sensor on the Nikon D60 and loved the color that came from that so I am hoping to get very similar results. I love the D300s too but love to see what different cameras can do. The D300s is defiantly a performer. I know using the D200 I realized how much I use the info button and live view for those extra defined shots its weird not having it on the D200. Thank you for watching! Hope all is well.

      @@Kris_World Absolutely! I still used my D200 for yrs into my new D300s if only because I needed LiveView for macro work & now Astro Space stuff. i'm slowly outgrowing it as well for low light. Comparing the D810 in DX crop and still looks good. I don't have a D500 yet.

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @K Hanscombe The D500 is supposed to be a great camera but so is the D810. Don't have either camera so I don't know how they perform. I would love to have one myself. Unfortunately its well out of my price range at the moment, so I was considering someday getting the Nikon D610. Its a camera I have always wanted.

    I remember when this was one of the most talked about, and anticipated New Camera releases ! The D200 arrived to a lot of fanfare, and really took Nikon to a new level. CMOS sensors soon replaced these CCD based cameras, but there was really something special about this camera. Just take a gander at all the comments, and the videos from many channels about this camera.
    If Nikon could somehow manufacture a Camera today, with the ‘essence of these early bodies, they would make a killing. Am I knocking the cameras off today? NO! I’ve owned D850/500, and currently a Z7. All fine Photographic tools, but where is the ‘soul?’ You get me? Stay safe! Peace

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  ปีที่แล้ว

      @georgedavall9449 I get you! I totally agree with you! Nikon would do so well if they did that. Even if they somehow they manufactured a new camera that had a CCD sensor. I really think so many would buy it because of how well it performed and still performs today. There is something about the CCD sensor that is unlike the CMOS. Thank you for watching my video, I really appreciate it. Stay safe friend. Later!

      Wow that is a fantastic gift! Make sure you get the grip for the camera too it really makes a difference when you need it. It gives you more battery life. I got mine from MPB. The Nikon D200 is a great camera and its special CCD sensor makes it so you can be very creative with it. I have recently learned a bit more from a fellow photographer about the D200 and why so many love it. It was once used for a lot of professional work. You can actually create your own film emulation settings while using it which I feel greatly expands your creative abilities with this camera. And that's a great lens to get going with, good for you! So happy to hear you received a great camera. That was very cool of your dad. Enjoy learning the camera and taking pics with it. If you have any questions let me know. Thank you for watching!

    I only quite recently got myself a D200 after watching many youtubers praising it. And what I heard is true. It's a slow camera, due to the CCD and the small buffer, but it translates the light that it catches into such beautiful colors, that I was baffled after my first shoot with it. The grip in which you can put two batteries indeed is a must to be able and shoot all day. I don't think I would recommend it for night photography, though. But at first morning light and just before sunset, the results are absolutely amazing from this 10MP camera.

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @rakutzimbel4539 It truly does capture some really beautiful colors. That's great that you got one so you can experience the CCD sensor of this camera for yourself. Yes it may be a slower camera, but I don't think its a bad thing at all. It's quality outweighs that factor. Thank you for sharing your experience with your D200 and thank you so much for watching my video. I hope all is well! 😊📷

    I have this camera among other nikon DSLRs and they piss all over mirrorless. Mirrorless in my opinion is a shitty technology. Been there, done it. I'd never go back to mirrorless. The D200 is gorgeous. 10.2mp produces small files, which are quick to edit and are enough MP for decent sized prints. The grain structure is lovely from this sensor. I really wish a camera manufacturer would make a new DSLR with a 10/16MP sensor. Most of us just don't want or need 40/50/60mp.

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dan-jg7zl Yes I agree the 40/50/60mp concept is a bit much for a sensor and the fact that some medium format mirrorless have 100mp is just insane. Its not necessary. The files are just too big. The D7000 That I also use has a 16.2mp sensor and I feel that its plenty for what I need it for. I guess if you are consistently printing billboards for a business but that's commercial. I myself love a little bit of grain in my image because it reminds me of 35mm film. And yes so many of the older cameras that made the big camera companies what they are today are still some of the best. Thank you for checking out my video!

      @1972myc Congrats on your purchase of the D200. It has a really nice feel when you are using it especially when you have the to battery grip. Yes the D200 has a lot of professional modes and features that will help you even more be able to expand your creative photography. I was talking to another photographer on here and he mentioned that this camera was once used in a professional setting for fashion magazines. I think he said it was for Ellie Magazine. He has a lot of neat formulas to make images look like magazine publication quality that have a nice film look. If your interested, he posted them on my (Is the D300s still good for use in todays world video) in the comments. It's pretty interesting. I would still shoot Raw most of the time but I think for creative photography its worth a look at. That's great that you got those accessories. Especially the memory card adapter. It really helps when you don't have a CF card on hand. I know the infrared remotes don't work very well but the wired ones do. The remote expands the camera a lot. Enjoy your camera and all the accessories! Hope all is well and that you are having a great day!

    I still have a d200. Actually got it pretty late around 2015 or so. It's a nice camera. It really was my best camera for a while and then I finally upgraded from my original d40 with six megapixels to a d3200 last year. A 4X increase in resolution was kind of nice. I know prices have been fluctuating quite a bit on the used camera market. I got mine from MPB. Hi Kris.
    What a great little camera.
    The D40 kit I bought for my wife has the 6 MP CCD sensor and the colours are so lush, whilst my old D3000 has a 10 MP CCD.
    A question for you mate:
    My non VR AF-S 18-55 GII ED lens is very loose when I'm attempting to focus manually. It has about 3 mm of play in it.
    Any DIY hacks you can think of?

      Hi Dave,
      I hope you are doing well! I know I am really liking the camera so far. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get out very much and take pictures like I want to because its been raining so much. I did not know that the d3000 had a CCD sensor. I bet its a really good camera then. I really like the colors the CCD Sensor produces. I have been playing with the optimize image modes in the menu, because it has vivid and vivid+ and a portrait mode as well. So I have been having fun with it.
      As far as your lens goes, I am not quite sure how you would fix that. It sounds like something internal inside the lens might be broken. Does it happen when you use the AF mode? I just looked at mine, I have the VR version and when I put mine on manual focus it is pretty loose as well. I feel that it would move if I pointed it down or up towards the sky. So I would have focus creep. No, don't put tape lol. 😂 I did some research, rubber bands are a photographers best friend for focus and lens creep. Just set your focus and band it.
      Thank you man I really appreciate that. Its one of my favorite types of photography just working on my night photographic style still. I have an idea of how I want my pics to look, but I am not quite there yet. I really like your style though on your insta. You make every image tell a story and I just love that. Keep up the great work my friend.
      Lol 😂 You're funny! I know, its not perfect but I thought it would be cool to show some of my character on here with the posh English accent. Lol. My thought when creating that voice was to create a character that was an old man with gray hair and a mustache who is wise. 😂 Still don't have a name for him though.

      @@Kris_World Albert 😂. Sir Henry 🤣.
      I had the D3000 out yesterday, for old times sake, and even with the 18-55 on it, it's a poor camera and it reminded me of why I upgraded it.
      It's sluggish and slow. The D40 is quicker and has better ISO performance and it's 3 years older.
      Ken Rockwell's website is my go to for information on camera's and lenses. I just wished I'd known about him before I bought the D3000.
      Anyway, it got me back into photography and how to use a DSLR so I can't complain too much.
      It's gotten to the point now, I'm just shooting anything I see, I love it.
      I'm looking up, down, behind inside out and outside in 😂😂😂
      Loving the B&W contrasty images I'm getting, especially at night. But then I have to take in the fact that I don't have a 1.4 prime lens and the ISO performance isn't as good as cameras today. So, contrasty it is. I love it. And thank you, I'm happy you enjoy them.
      Hoping to get out today for something different so keep a look out over the weekend.
      I'm having to use an ancient laptop from 2007 to do my Instagram as I've fried my pc motherboard 😭

      @Badger 😂Those names are perfect. I especially like the sir part! Wow I am very surprised. You would think that it would be the other way around, but when I talked to people that were using the d40 in photography class they said it was actually a pretty decent camera and the pics they got from it were actually very good. It unfortunately just doesn't have a lot of features like the D300s has. Ken Rockwell's site is actually very informative. I like to see what he has to say about older cameras and lenses. Hey that's the important part it got you back into photography.
      LOL 😂😂😂 Hey that's awesome!! That's what makes photography fun!
      I know the 1.4s are a little more expensive unfortunately. The photos that you are getting have a lot of mood added to them. They look really neat and very contrasty. I know what you mean, ISO performance isn't the greatest in dark situations on the older dslrs. I learned something though while using my D200, and that is if I used center weight or spot for my metering at night the camera would actually allow me to use a higher shutter speed then using the matrix metering mode. I thought it was quite interesting. Maybe try it out and see what you think. I was surprised.
      I'll go ahead and check out insta, can't wait to see what you got.
      Oh my gosh no, not your computer!! I'm so sorry to hear about that. Hopefully your GPU is ok though. 😭

      @Josemarquez Hi Jose, unfortunately I have only been able to find the original batteries in the used market. You can find ones in excellent condition, but unfortunately it doesn't give you a guarantee they will hold a charge. I recommend that you look on KEH or MBP. Hope this helps.

    That's not heavy. Its a baby D2.if you thinks that's heavy, try a D2h/x with a wt-1/2 Wi-Fi adapter on it haha..

      @tonetonic2013 You are right, I am sure that would be a very heavy setup. Wi-Fi adapters back then were bricks and definitely I'm sure added a nice amount of weight. Thank you for watching!

    Shoot with such a high f stop is not the best idea in dark environment. f/1.4 or 1.8 would've made those photos look much better. In the end it is the lens that does 70% of the job not the camera.
    P.S. Congrats with the purchase. The best DLSR ever made IMO.

      @Fox F Hi yes you are absolutely right. Normally I would use a wide open aperture and a much lower ISO but since I was testing the camera mostly handheld at night I really just wanted to see what it was capable of. That and the lens I was using only went to an open aperture of f/3.5 because my Nikkor 24mm has some really bad glare issues. The sharpest point of the lens that goes to f/3.5 is f/7.1-f/11 unfortunately. The only lens I own that goes to f/1.8 is my 50mm and unfortunately I had forgotten that lens that night. But again you are right the pictures probably would have looked a lot better. Thank you for the comment. Thank you! I am really enjoying it so far. It is a very sturdy camera and love the way if feels when I am taking pictures. Thank you for watching my video. Hope all is well!

      @@Kris_World Thanks and welcome to the CCD maniacs club! Oh and btw a lot of us use Gigapixel AI to upscale those 10.2Mp photos to 24-25Mp and then crop the hell out of em without anyone noticing ) Just a heads up.

      @Fox F Thank you! I'm excited to use my new/used camera more and more. Oh really? I'll have to check that out and use it on a couple of my photos and see how it works. Thanks for the heads up! I really appreciate it!

    Watch out for low light, this camera is something not so hot there. I suppose if you of course shoot raw, maybe that is a help. I loved my D200. My Brother still enjoys it today. I have the D800 and D700 and not wanting for anything else. My Sony A7iii x 2 are my production cameras. The Nikons are for the love of why I bother in the 1st place and brag about how the hobby is. I recommend patience and love with the D200. If you don't get that, but something more modern and maybe more forgiving, but that CCD is something to fight for if it is your bag image quality wise. After all these years it still rocks many's world. Why not? It is a bitchin camera.
