Maybe ink stick making (since there was an inkstone video), or embroidery/brocade would be interesting!

I wonder, here in Canada in some schools, we have workshops for our children between ages 9 to 13 or there about. Do the schools in China do anything similar? I would think it could be introduced within an arts program or something.
I remember learning wood working with workshop tools and machines and still have the items I created. I learned to sew and to cook and bake as well. These modules of learning are still going on today. Sciences, trades, practical skills, hobby skills, etc.
I feel like, with so many people in China, wouldn't it be worth it, to help cultivate and preserve these amazing trades by exposing the young to the possibility of finding a love for creating like this. Instead of the piano lessons there could be wood carving lessons! Think of how wonderful it would be if this man could have a room full of apprentices, that might discover that they too have a passion to bring to life the stories that future wood can tell. I hope to see that someday.

Naah speaking as a Chinese myself, Chinese parents are very pragmatic, they all want their kids to get well paid jobs instead of pursuing what they are passionate about, unless this type of craftsmanship can warrant a prosperous future, I don’t think Chinese parents would want their kids to go down this career path. However, plenty of people making good money by creating contents online, it is possible to turn this into a proper career.

It would help the apprentices if the hours weren't so long every day. Unless they are getting paid a living wage to learn the craft, no one can afford to master a trade anymore.

it took us 3 years,.. me: puts unfinished piece aside after 3 days for later :)
i would be a bad apprentice as well, but he kindof said himself he would get frustrated doing the same boring stuff for over a year, before any new challenge..
maybe change it up if you want an apprentice to stick around honoustly, :)

Arts, heritage, cultural academies need to be established. And like Japanese sumo, perhaps non Chinese apprentices need to be recruited. To preserve these arts. His apprentices are right tho. Machines, 3d printing, laser etching all are more precise and faster. Hard to argue with facts
