  • We spent some time on the ole Ford Major and finally got the fuel lines bled enough to have it run under its own power!

    Gentlemen, diesels are compression fired, hence the lack of an ignition system and a timed and sealed fuel system. If there is air in the fuel lines, you will simply compress that air in the line instead of delivering fuel. Why? Because the nozzle that delivers fuel to the combustion chamber (or in indirect injected diesels, the precombustion chambers) are dependent on non compressible fluid (fuel psi) being on the back side of the pintle to ramp up (cam lobe or swash plate in the injection pump) to deliver fuel. The nozzles are also sealed from dribbling via the psi differential between combustion psi and fuel delivery psi. You can go low compression on a cylinder and the nozzle will not deliver fuel. Also, fastest way to clear air on a diesel (NON COMMON RAIL INJECTION, mfers hit 30k psi rail psi so don't waterjet yourself away) is to knock the highest fuel line point loose on every cylinder, crank till you see fuel, then tighten every connection one at a time while cranking, until it runs on its own, bringing one cylinder on at a time.

      Yeah, good description of diesel engine systems.

    If you don’t have a solid line of diesel the the air in the lines will absorb the jolt from the pump and the injections won’t pop open! The air won’t clear , the motor won’t run ! Also I don’t wish to argue with advice you get but pipe on the side is an overflow for the pumps sump if diesel leaks out of it you have a worn out injector pump . Cheers

    You keep cranky it you will burn the stater up not made to just keep cranking

    Fuel jug should have been up on tank that’s why there’s no lift pump
    Gravity always wins
    Never quit trying

    Air compresses, diesel doesn't. The injectors require high pressure to pump into their high compression cylinders. My uncle had a kerosene Fordson he changed the engine for s diesel.

    I had to do air bleeding on our Ford 4000, particularly after replacing the diesel filter.

    Cut out the damn noise! I can hear it from around the corner!… by the way can I borrow that once you get it running?

    If it doesn't have a grid heater or glow plugs then get a can of ol grand pappy's cough syrup and spray away haha

    Hey I got a 86 fiero but it’s to slow. If I could get the money would you help me swap it and put something else in it?

    That super long #3 line will throw off injection timing for that cylinder.

      No. It wont.

    • @adventurewagen
      @adventurewagen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tankerbill1431 yes it will, that's why lines on a diesel are all equal length.

    Love your show dude but you need to get some microphones! Cranking it up trying to hear you and then having to turn it back down once you get something running.. haha🤦

    What happened to the 2 filter system and the primer sentiment filter. That fuel system is gravity fed. And yeah I know the video is old

    I actually got the same tractor running today. I think it's a 62 fordson major super with a 55 hp diesel. Pretty cool

      Fordson motor is the same at Ford motor? Or similar?

    • @crazyDIYguy
      @crazyDIYguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hugoleyva8699 I think it is a Ford motor actually, when you think about it "fordson" =ford and son. I've heard they turned into a Ford 4000 in later years and fordson major quit being a thing. So I'm probably wrong about the Detroit diesel

      Also I was told that a regular ford truck clutch works in those too as a replacement

    That should have a fuel pump that you can pump by hand and bleed it out
