- We were given this 1954 Fordson Major Diesel tractor for free! It hadn't run in years when we got it. In this video we see if we can get it running so it can go back to work for many more years on our homestead! Special thanks to our neighbor Tom who made this project possible!

Love the Fordsons! Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Will do! 😊
Does not blow much oil smoke maybe crankcase breather needs cleaning ,and a couple of heat cycles, run for forty mins let cool repeat . If a ring or two are stuck they may free up with work.
Careful cold starting/ using ether on that, those engines love to bend the pushrods over. The mechanical fuel pumps on those also have a habit of leaking diesel down into the crankcase oil, so keep an eye on that
Thanks for the tips! Definitely a learning experience working on this old tractor. Thanks for watching!
You will probably find it will come good with a bit of use but if not they are really easy do do an in frame on
Probly broken compression rings or just stuck a good workout might free them , pretty cheap to repair at least in Australia great little tractor though .R
Yeah we’ll see! Thanks for watching!
If you're standing and looking at the fuel injection pump there is sort of a barrel-shaped attachment on the right side. Inside there is a rubber diaphragm. They often go bad. If there is a small crack in it it will cause it to run rough and smoke a lot. It is quite likely that is at least part of your problem. It's easy to buy the part online and probably only takes 15 or 20 minutes to put it in since it will be your first time.
That’s good to know. I’ll definitely take a look at that! Thanks for the tip!
Hi! It's good to see you!
Hey, thanks!🙂
The rings may be stuck.
That may cause much of the blow by. And, the excessive blowby will cause even a good gasket to leak oil.
That’s a good point! Thanks for watching!
