For me, it's the rubato he allowed himself to have in his solos (and fills) that really set him apart from many of the guitarists of the era and genre. To me this is why his playing sounds so "free from rules and constraints". Yes, the beat and timing are always present along side him, but he swims through it with unpredictable ferocity. The dude can craft!
Randy Rhoads' solo in Flying High Again and George's solo in TnN are closely inspired by a conversation Randy had with George at Musonia. Randy had a problem with Flying Highs Solo and asked George what he would do... and the hammer on arpeggios were born.
@@billburns2915 Hence the nickname Mr Scary George Lynch 💯🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥- Mr Randy Rhodes was quoted as saying that George Lynch was the best around, said he was so good he's scary. RIP RANDY RHODES 🤘🎸🎸🎸🙏
I was a huge Lynch fan . I had a guitar lesson tape set called learn to burn and it was Lynch and Jake e Lee. Learned so much you had to write out your own tabs. I still love the Lynch stuff
I had my Custom ESP made to look like this Quilt maple, but I went with a black reversed kamikaze headstock (that upward hokey stick shape) and a couple other custom tweaks 🤙 this vid is the intro to his instructional VHS video
Woah, did you isolate this solo? If so which software was used? Ive been trying since forever to isolate the solo from Ratt’s “You Should Know By Now” 😅
George was a studio guitarist He could never do his record solos live.. He really relies on tone to get through.. However is one of the best riff masters ever.!
Best technically ,I agree but I will also say that my least favorite guitarists to listen to are always the more technical.makmsteen has always been labeled too technical if he had less technical an more artistical side, then he could have crossed that barrier that way Eddie van Halen,Clapton, passed through.i think George has that artistic side like them.but I'm not sure I would put in the van Halen category .an other people as well just because George plays a heavier less popular style.i don't think George would have composed "jump" by van halen.if you know what I mean.evhvis the g.o.a.t. in my eyes.his sound has his name on every string he strikes
Lynch is just ok, he ain't an awesome shredder, if the lead player I could find was Lynch, I would not mind, but I know there are way better....like Yngwie, MacAlpine, Paul Gilbert, etc
Each player you mentioned had a very different approach. George has unpredictable traits that a lot of the players you mentioned don’t. EVH is the only one I see in that category.
All very technically gifted, but no one has the feel or phrasing like Lynch. I can run through a harmonic minor scale no problem... But try and play a Lynch solo and make it sound as sick as he does is near impossible... Badass👍
Really?? Just ok??? He’s damn good , this stuff is from the 80’s. Time has changed the way we play and judge great playing. He was top 3 during his time and his unique style and phrasing is what we loved about his playing. Don’t be a guitar snob…. Say something nice or nothing at all
@@scottmelton3092 You remind me of those guys that are a big fan of some semi-popular player that jealously defend them at the slightest hint of criticism. I heard a lot of shred in my life and at this point I just care if the song is cool, like it is a song I can hear over and over, not just some aimless shred to impress. Most people have zero taste and defend the most basic guitar bs, like simple repeating blues runs played fast is mad shred skills to them. I have zero respect for most people's opinion on what good shred is.
Ok , George Lynch doesn’t play “simple blues runs repeatedly fast “ to fill solo times. If you listened to his work in Lynch Mob you would hear his ability as time went on.Dokken was a 80’s hair band and limited George’s expression on those records. That being said his guitar work is very good on those albums. Not sure of your age but George - Eddie- Randy- did stuff that future players learned and pushed further with better equipment and Amps. Not defending a mediocre guitar player here or my favorite as he is neither of those things. Listen to Early Judas Priest ( Rocka Rolla, Stained Glass )and compare it to Pain Killer and listen how time and equipment can change the guitar parts of a bands sound. Shredding is awesome if done we’ll and I respect your opinion.

I "Studied" under George's Guitar Dojo years ago... He basically taught me the Tooth n Nail solo. Underrated Guitarist and really nice guy.
After all these years George Lynch is STILL on fire!!🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Lynches solo and clean tones are awesome! This was when soloing had feeling. \m/
Love George! Incredible phrasing, phenomenal guitarist.
Crazy player. Fluid and fierce tone! Mr Scary
That solo in the middle of "Tooth and Nail" gets me everytime! The whole band was on fire for that song.

3:19 "Walk Away".... Awesome solo! 4:09 onwards from "Mr. Scary" is just so iconic and uniquely Lynch. Phenomenal!
"Don't Walk Away" ?
The song is called "Walk Away" and the lyrics in the song - Just Walk Away

Lynch has always been with the very best.
His techniques, phrasing, sound has unique and difficult to copy!!!
*_Love how Jon plays the solos like they sound on the record_* 🎸🔥
So smooth and rocking at the same time It's like a dance on the fretboard lol (-; Vibrato for day$$$$$$
Godfather ultimate 80s metal tone
4:09 - 4:20 my favorite part of Mr scary
You missed “Night by night” one of my favorite guitar solos by GL
Without Warning…nuff said.

God that Tooth and Nail solo is the most majestic thing I've ever heard and I don't think anything will ever top it

I always thought he had a brutal in your face aggressive tone.
I really love 「When Darkness Calls」

Epic. Insanely Lynch😮
Better than EVH. There I said it.
Very nice !
From which song the third solo at 1:22 is from?
Dokken - The Hunter
@@jrf4981 Thanks a lot!
at 1:58 what is that? Ive heard it a million times it sounds like the track is skipping. So cool.
think its him hitting the wammy bar, very unique sound
Delay. He used it a lot back then. He rarely uses it now, and has a sound that is very dry, and low on gain.
Sounds like a tape delay to me.
Crazy pick technique a la Jeff Beck

Tooth and Nail. 2mins in
is this from the 80s
yes its from the master tracks, from the tracks used on the album
