Season 2 Episode 5: We drive this incredible restomod 1978 Datsun 280Z. The car was purchased by the 2nd owner, our friend Javier Bassi. It was built by him as his vision of the ultimate Datsun 280Z. It was a full ground up restoration, including some of the following modifications.

Gorgeous 280Z! One of the best looking classics. Some compare the 240/280Z to the early Porsche 911s. Timeless car with amazing body lines and of course great sounding.

Met the owner of this awesome Z at Carolinas Ale House on NW 36th St in Doral a couple of years ago, took some picture of the Z, it was still a work in progress but you could already tell it was going to be an epic build. i have a 76 racing green 280z in Delaware with 29k miles. was garaged for 40 years before i rescued it. ive kept it stock but love this one. i traded some carpentry work for mine!

this looks pretty sick, i am working on a 81' 280zx right now, i am 14 years old and building this as my first car, this gives me inspiration, but i think i could make mine look a lot better in my opinion. Not to brag or bash this build, it's just not exactly my type :) I want to make mine the best 280zx out there, because 280zxs do not get enough attention and my goal is to show people how cool it can be.

Thank you for your support. We are certainly advocates of safe driving and don't encourage anyone to drive without a safety belt. The car still has factory belts and due to the aftermarket buckets they don't wrap around. The owner is working on fixing that! Thanks again we are feeling the love from Taiwan! Cheers my friend.

Im so confused, they said it was red but it looks extremely orange to me...
Bad ISO settings on the camera. Red can come up orange when using the wrong settings.

I love Datsun , I'm try put beautiful now with a little money, my best friend say good bye of this world in 2016 my car it's a modest 76 , he buy this car for leave in my Kinder and say , imagine this ! ...dream with Foose and 1000 things but not happening... before of Datsun , all the things that together with yours elections we share in owns lives ... No way do I see 100k. Why leave the strut tower cracked? The CAI looks cool but adds zilch to the power band. I would offer maybe 30k on a good day.

I’m a year late to your question, but if you mean the big thing below the chrome bumper, that is called an air dam!
What kind of air dam I’m not sure, but I believe those types are more common with rocket bunny / pandem aero kits

2.8l block 40 over with a e31 head with the 2.8l valve and a 280 camwith a 495lift and header and su carb with bigger needles will be the set up 10.1comp plus a turbo muffler with a 2.5 straight pipes will be the perfect set up the sound will be a deeps deep sound like a ford motor hp over 200 hp fast fast car fun to drive guys but the sound is beautiful the cam make the car come alive believe me i know
Weatherstripping/Edge protector falling off instead of black sealant on the kit, front struts about to pop out of the towers, painted over old sealant/filler and over rust damage on the firewall... No, Javi is not that meticulous, but he knows how to turn an honest car into a peacock. Seriously, looks good though. I can respect that much.

Sick but never believed the mileage on a Z, the odometer only has 5 digits to it. Mine probably has at least 200k on the clock.

@@alleybuilds5370 I won't argue that. For the amount stated it costs, there should be a Rebello Racing motor in it with triples, a CD009 6-speed, and built lsd rear end.

Not a crack its the factory welding the shocktower its the tower then the upper strut mount welded from underneath , not a crack just exposed the tower construction.
I can't say I'm happy with my 280zxt after like 2 decades with it.
It hasn't been a very reliable car. Blown a lot of head gaskets, and fuel injectors are always leaky, and shocks have always been shot out. All that premium luxury car stuff on it... cruise control, talking lady, door lights, air conditioner, stereo, digital dash, gas tank measuring stick, oxygen sensor, etc... just dies over time and never works again. The clear coat peels off and looks like dandruf. I've had to clean the steering column light stick contact switches more times than I can count. It's not a very friendly vintage car to own at all. It only seems fast because it's low to the ground. I gave up driving the Z and switched to driving cruiser motorcycles, they were much more fun, cheaper, more fuel efficient, faster, and just better vehicles. The Z now seems like a gas plg by comparison, I would never go back to driving the Z.
It looked better without the mods and it came with the cold air intake ....
but hay ... keep up the great work
The best thing about these cars is how they came from the factory, when you do this to the car you ruin it.
Making a car personal , isnt ruining a car. If you like it stock enjoy it.
If you want to tastefully mod it go ahead they made alot of these cars.
Its been 40+ years so they are getting harder to find.
You better start looking to find a car to leave stock or bring it back to stock they are being hunted.

It was originally a black 78? If so, that means it was a limited edition Black Pearl...... oh well, guess that makes mine worth more. Overall looks like a clean build, not a fan of rocket bunny on s30. 100k ??? Lol

@Budget Boost DIY That's not how body kits work man. They should be used whenever and however someone wants. There's no point in boosting a car to ridiculous numbers if it's a daily, and you don't race it. Nothing wrong with someone wanting a car they find aesthetically pleasing.
@Budget Boost DIY I know what a body kit was ORIGINALLY intended to do. What I'm proposing (not purposing) Is that people use their money to buy whatever they want to put on the car they own. There's not some weird standard they have to apply just because you personally dislike it. They aren't your cars. Have you ever heard of a show car? Most of them don't actually have crazy horse power. Not everyone in this world wants to race, some people just like a certain aesthetic. The only thing destroying the future of a widebody are random people on the internet trying to police who can use them.
