  • As an order of warrior-monks, the Knights Templar defended Christians in the Holy Land. But for 700 years, all kinds of rumors and theories of shocking crimes and secrets have surrounded them. Jimmy Akin and Dom Bettinelli discuss those theories and claims that the Knights are still among us. sqpn.com/2019/...

Jimmy, you are exactly correct about the Hiram Abiff. I used to be a Free and Accepted Mason in Tennessee before becoming Catholic and learning the truth. This character is actually pivotal in the 3rd degree. Every degree in Blue Lodge has two parts. The first portion is like a ceremonial symbolic performance, and the second part is normally like a play. In the 3rd degree, during the second half, you actually play the role as Grand Master Hiram Abiff. You are “murdered” by three Ruffians who go into hiding after burying your body by a sprig of Acacia. The Ruffians are found and killed after King Solomon sends three men to find you and the ruffians. Once they find you, King Solomon comes with the other masons to basically resurrect you, which now looking back through a Catholic lense, I realize is absolutely blasphemous because only our Lord Jesus will resurrect us. This is why when you hear about the dates a Mason has received his degrees, they will say it like this: I was initiated into the degree of Entered Apprentice Mason on (insert date), passed to the degree of a Fellowcraft Mason on (insert date), and raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on (insert date). Overall, the idea is that you can achieve enlightenment and heaven by following God, your own morality, and the laws of Freemaosnry.

I’m an ex-mason, now Catholic, and confirm this post. In my freemasonry experience, none of the guys took the rituals seriously/religiously, most were faithful Protestant Christians who saw freemasonry as a social club that did good charity. Knights of Columbus is a great Catholic option for Catholic men looking for opportunities to do more good works than their parish may be able to provide.

"overall, the idea is that you can achieve enlightenment and heaven by following God, your own morality, and the laws of Freemaosnry."
No, the overall idea is indifferentism. A person can achieve salvation by following ANY god, your own morality, and the laws of freemasonry.
How authoritative was Albert Pike's works, in your experience, and how pervasive was his works in your lodge?

An aspect of the Templar's was their interest in technology. It is often forgotten that the so-called "Long Thirteenth Century" (c.1180-1349)
Saw very significant technological advances in Europe, including such things as the blast furnace, the canal lock, the fulling mill, the mechanical clock, the balanced rudder & the windmill. etc etc. Many of these new innovations and inventions were enthusiastically adopted by the Knights Templar, who for example built the earliest windmills in Europe as, both wooden post mills and stone tower mills, were constructed by the Knights Templar after c.1180. Particularly in England and Northern France.
They also used sophisticated farming methods to improve the yields of their estates.
Also, as noted, they developed the commercial banking system that had originated in Italy on an international scale, thus precipitating the "Commercial Revolution".
The main problem with the Knights Templar was due to their outstanding business success. This created a great deal of envy. Unfortunately, this led to their downfall.

Thanks for this. I said it before, Jimmy keeps covering all of my favorite interests but especially with the Templars. I have a friend from work who is obsessed with anything Templar, I think he would really appreciate and enjoy this, if not learn some really interesting history. He always strikes up this conversation with me, knowing I'm Catholic he thinks I have some type extra knowledge on the subject, he's a bit younger than me in his early 20s, I'm 35, so it's funny when he gets all inquisitive over that stuff. I really just enjoy good conversation, and whenever it involves history, I'm never disappointed. 😊❤

Jimmy did a great job but I was surprised he didn'y make the connection with the order "worshipping the head" to all the evidence that the Knights Templar were thought to be custodians of the Shroud of Turin. The Shroud would have been kept folded to avoid the appearance of being burial clothes and the depictions of this at an English Church of the order depict it as so. This is also covered in that famous 1970s documentary on the Shroud of Turin by the English academic Rolfe called, "The Silent Witness". Well done Dom and Jimmy.

This theory stood for a generation, but was debunked by research by Thomas Madden in the 1990's (Crisis Magazine, April 1, 2002).

Hey Jimmy, I know this is an old episode but I only recently found it. This episode made me curious about the Knights of St John and the seige of malta. I think I had always assumed that the Knights of St John were an off shoot of Knights templar but that seems not to be the case. Are you planning a future episode on them and their mysterious battle at malta?

    • @jesseholthaus8357
      @jesseholthaus8357 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The duty of the knights of St. John (hospitalers) was caring for pilgrims who visited the holy land. They would serve as guards and guides on the journey and help the sick or wounded in and around the holy land. Now they are referred to as the knights of Malta. There’s also the tectonic knights which hopefully Jimmy covers at some point but they eventually jumped ship and became Lutheran.

I've read a bit from a freemason Bible in a local used bookstore. What I read were some silly claims about Solomon's Temple, and some outlines of the ranking system.
This episode has been very informative, and has cleared away some misinformation nonsense and accounted for where the misinformation has come from and why it was presented in the first place.
I am very receptive of conspiracy awareness, and found the episode regarding Bohemian Grove to be incredibly naive, but this episode really rings true with how all this stuff actually plays out in real life, and so I give this a hearty thumbs up.
I'm looking forward to hearing Jimmy's perspective on the "Illuminati" (in quotes because they are not illuminated), though I'm dissapointed that the topic does not get a full episode (not yet anyway), and I suspect Jimmy will give it the naive treatment like he gave Bohemian Grove; still looking forward to hearing his perspective though.
Much love. Jesus bless us all.

The Church's position is that the Persecution of the Knights Templar was unjust. Phillip the IV forced Pope Clements hand in a political/public scandal. He misrepresented the Templars and accused them of crimes they weren't guilty of. As Catholics we can be proud of what the Templars fought for during the Crusades. 🇻🇦🇻🇦

We are Catholics, and we take our Christian faith very seriously! As part of that, we take the Golden Rule seriously--i.e., "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." This means treating all viewpoints fairly and following the evidence wherever it goes (i.e., no propaganda). Thanks for understanding what we're trying to do, and God bless you!
