If this table were bought new at today's prices, I would say it would cost between $4,000-$6,000 (table), and each chair would be $1,000. So, total $10,000-$12,000. We tend to underestimate the value of what we have. Now, the people you sell to might not pay that much for new furniture. So, when selling, you have to make them realize the superb quality of the furniture and what something comparable would cost them today. Maybe that will help people be willing to pay a more fair price for the beautiful work you and other refinishers are producing.
Congrats on a great buy and an incredible makeover! Back in 1975 I would guess a set this size would be well over $1000. Today’s prices? Probably more around $3-4K. I’ve been watching you for about a year and am so proud of you and how you truly did turn lemons into a huge pitcher of the sweetest lemonade. 🍋🍋
mine was same area looked like this and I paid over 2000 when tired of it kids took it and its still being passed around. It was with a hutch and was 2500 plus tax. I replaced the covers eventually and looked brand new.
Some of the most beautiful woodgrain I have seen. So many of us dislike working with tables and chairs, so it was a pleasure to watch you cover every single detail. No corners cut here. Excellent job. Great video!
The idea of matching the table top to the cushions is absolutely brilliant! You would probably pay ten to twenty times more for a set like this from a reputable furniture store. Bravo!
I would of reupholstered the seats to include changing out the foam since the chairs are 49 years old. You would be surprised how yucky the cushion foam is. The colors you chose for the upgrade definitely pop.
Those were my thoughts as well! It's amazing how fast the foam disintegrates over time! The cost to recover the chair seats would have been minimal and I would have felt far more comfortable with new foam and fabric. But I will agree that the color choices for the table were perfect!
Aunt lois had a set like this , she wore it out with entertaining her friends and loved family members, she was quite the maven in the stirri g up memories department. I miss her.
This is one of my favorite flips that you have done. It surely was a lot of work, but it was so worth it. I agree that the seat cushions and the top just elevate this table. It is hard to say how much it would cost to buy something this size . It is so unique and it is better than the quality of so much of the furniture today. Congrats!!
I was shocked seeing your table set, which is identical to my parents dining set, and I’ve been wanting to refinish it exactly the top-stain color and the base black, unbelievable, but I wasn’t sure how the chairs , being part cain would turn out,in black, but their perfect , just beautiful. Thank you so much, you’ve solved a dought I’ve had for months, thanks again.😊
24:41 I just discovered your channel and I am so happy! I love your work. I’m not a flipper, but have a house full of furniture I need to update. Thank you for your excellent instructions!
I usually love Bombay mahogany stain and it's my go-to. But I wanted to take a minute and say that I love the look! Make over looks so elegant and would fit into most design schemes. Keep those videos coming!
Oh my goodness ! This is absolutely beautiful ! The colour contrast is spectacular. This has to be my favourite piece I've seen you do. As always,.Love & Blessings from Nova Scotia, Canada 🇨🇦 ❤️ xo
I lived in 144 condo complex and someone was always throwing out their old wooden chairs, I made a small fortune taking the chains in and repainting them like you do or changing some of the ripped material coverings. Things we do in out fourties. 🤓😆😊
Think it’s lovely but I would have elevated a bit more by beige washing just the cane portion of the chairs so they don’t look simply spray painted. Also that would tie into the neutrals of the wood top and the fabric decks of the chairs, not to mention the other lighter elements in your room. Just my two cents worth. But lots of dedication and work went into this. You are a soldier!
Thanks so much! I was worried bc the cane was almost 50 yrs old how much I could sand for best adhesion and since it will get decent use, how would paint stand up over time w/o touch up. Plus the emerald trim paint can crack if it gets poly on it (it has one built in) so I would have had to be super careful to poly the cane by hand. You can tell I weighed my options on that one. Lol I definitely considered it.
Fabulous Flip!! The contrast between the beautiful table top and the black is genius...also family friendly taking everyday scuffs without looking battered! Thank you :)
These 70's dining rooms sets are well made real wood! With a little bit of time and patience you can transform them into something updated and beautiful. It now looks amazing! Great job!
I came across this when I was refinishing a dining table for my daughter’s after college apartment & looking for inspiration. I love the end result! Your vision is amazing. Most people can’t see that far ahead or follow through between design, execution & end result-Bravo! I’d say the set would sell here for $3-4k. Too bad they didn’t have the hutch/buffet! I love what you did with the one you already had. I just found that video. Both are gorgeous! My only advice would be to finish the edges that are unseen when it’s together but show when taking the leaves out. I am my father’s daughter and he always stressed doing a project 100%, like the sides of drawers & leaves, and removing hardware & hinges prior to finishing. It can be a curse sometimes! If you wanted to upgrade the padding on those gorgeous chairs or change the fabric, it’s easier than it sounds to reupholster them -and you already have the skills and tools needed. (& brilliant artistic vision). To duplicate the piping at the edge, you simply insert cording (or appropriate sized round shoelace or twine etc, like a taco, between a layer of fabric strip cut on the bias. The bias cut allows the fabric to mold seamlessly around corners. Or 2 rows is very stylish too, each encased separately -in either matching or contrasting fabric. If you have trouble getting your cording to make a tight curve, use your steam iron while gently stretching & holding it in the right shape. Can’t wait to see your next flip! Thank you for sharing all your tips, insights and advice too!
Quite stunning! You did an unbelievable job on this. I have refinished ENDLESS pieces over the past 60 years and your results were superb. I as disappointed at first when you decided to leave the top and not paint it black, but that absolutely *made* it. Thank you for the great ideas. Keep squeezing those lemons.
I am new to furniture restoration projects. I loved watching your video! The table and chairs turned out beautifully! I have dark brown table, chairs , and side bar table. I will be working on removing the dark stain to a lighter more modern stain. Thank you!
Before you broke out the stain, I was thinking, I would go woth a natural top with white washed stain! So glad you did! I would add a beautiful rug with touches of black under your table😊
Kara, I love how fearless you are. You have a vision, then work hard to bring it to fruition. The top stain with the black paint looks amazing. Great job on a great find. I would think, buying that set new would cost somewhere around 2,000 dollars on the low end. Good furniture is expensive. It looks amazing! Still praying for you my dear. God bless
Thank you so very much Janet. You truly bless me with your comments and support. Chris re-hired by his last employer. They decided they couldn't afford to lose him. Thank you for your prayers! We are excited that once again, God makes a way, when there seems to be no way! Have a great weekend!
What a great buy! I love the style of this set! The black paint looks flawless. I'm not excited about the top finish because it looks splotchy. This usually happens with lower grade oak and oak from different trees. If you love it that's all that matters. Thanks for sharing all the great tips! 💯❣️
Loved the transformation! I have a similar table and chairs that I inherited from my folks and have been waiting for inspiration to transform it. And now watching your video I'm excited to get working on it. And thanks for the razor blade tape tip - it's a round table so that will come in handy. Love your work and all the valuable information you provide. Thanks!
❤❤❤❣️So lovely! I appreciate the tape and razor blade tip! I love that the cushion colors took on a new “hue” and matched the table top. So beautiful. - Jill 😘
Absolutely love what you did with this stunning classic. I enjiy learning new tips from you. Civering the stripper with plastic wrap will be very useful. Thank you. I love your kind gentle spirit.
Fabulous results, and I was wondering about the light top, but WOW, it is amazing!! Plus a perfect match to the chair cushions! Brand new would be 6 to 8 thousand dollars easily.
Watched this at the airport! I’m poised to travel home and do the same flip to my dining table! This was awesome! Loved it! (I’ll also be assembling that shed soon! ❤)
What do you think this table would sell for in a store? I am so glad I found this & was able to keep this one!
Upwards of two to three thousand dollars.
Maybe in the $2,000- $5,000 range, depending on the maker? I love how this turned out! Makes me want to redo my dining room table. 😍
Easily 2k-4k.
Love how it turned out and glad you could keep it!
If this table were bought new at today's prices, I would say it would cost between $4,000-$6,000 (table), and each chair would be $1,000. So, total $10,000-$12,000.

They do not even sell furniture of this quality. You did a superb job refinishing it!
Wow, thank you! I appreciate that!
I wasn’t crazy about the top until you did the black paint with it. It’s stunning. Love love love it!
Me too. I kept shaking my head lol. Ending was beautiful ❤

I had a set almost like it in 1984 cost 5 grand with hutch buffet
Never mind the table being expensive. The cane chairs are a fortune nowadays too!! Just 1 chair can cost around $300-$500. Table came out beautiful.
Some of the most beautiful woodgrain I have seen. So many of us dislike working with tables and chairs, so it was a pleasure to watch you cover every single detail. No corners cut here. Excellent job. Great video!
Thank you so much 😊 ultimate compliment from one of my favs!
That was at the height of the great furniture manufacturers in NC. They made beautiful furniture.

My thoughts exactly 💯

Just STUNNING! It Turned out ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!
❤the black trim around the table and base ,and those chairs look GORGEOUS
Omg I wasn't keen on it till the reveal, but then that black brings out the dark colors in the wood and it works perfectly. I learned so much.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed
One of my favorites so far. Beautiful
Thank you so much! I appreciate you tuning in! Hope to see you next time!
So beautiful!!! Looks just like it’s out of West Elm or Pottery Barn!!! Stunning 🤩

I love brass details
