I ❤ you BOTH, SOOOO much!! I've learned a TON from you gals!! Between you two & Natalee Calahan, I've been able to make or even remake a lot in my new (final) home. So thankful for the tutorials 🎉 @@LemonstoLemonadeFurniture
Since you asked what we thought, here goes. I’ve refinished furniture for about 9 years and have done this finish several times. It does take bit of patience and practice, this just doesn’t look “high end”. It’s streaky and the dry brush at the end is really not good. The rattan is unfinished and honestly looks awful on the inside. The cut outs are so thin the hardware can’t be placed correctly. I’m sure this will be perceived as super critical, or hopefully constructive? I’ve watched other videos where your work was really nice.
@@lindarahmeyer2668I would want someone to tell me. Then I would stand back and think about it and assess if it was helpful and how to improve. Or, I could decide I liked as is or minor adjustments.
I love this piece, your color choice on hardware is spot on. I love the technique😊 I can picture this in an entryway, perhaps with lamps & catch all dish, etc. Nice work!
I can just imagine in 50 years or so somebody buying this piece and stripping it down and wondering why in the world would anybody ever paint this beautiful cherry wood!!
Oh yes,, use an old sheet instead of paper towels. Beautiful results on this piece. The red mahogany look is not very pretty, but what you did will be loved by its buyer. Love your videos. Linda Beals.
I think the hardest part of redoing furniture (large or small pieces) is trusting the process Letting it dry, stepping back looking & breathing Thanks for the journey 💙
It’s not my preferred style or color but I LOVE how close it looks to the Pottery Barm piece so you shouldn’t have a problem selling it. You did do a fabulous job turning it into a designer piece! Kudos!
Thank you! I’m glad you like this look! Both looks sell really well for me so it is fun to take pieces no one else wants and try them out! thanks for watching and commenting!
It’s very attractive! I would want a smoother, neater backing for the doors. But I love rattan, it adds so much. And you got the pottery barn look down!!! Thanks!!!
I’m a bit confused…. Why would you do a fake wood finish on solid cherry? Why not just sand down to bare wood and stain it whatever color you want…. I remember asa child, everyone painting everything, then we spent the next 30 years trying to remove the paint… It’s pretty and I like the modifications, just think wood look more high end…. But it was well done…
Looks great! I would have used Saran Wrap, waxed paper or parchment paper to put between the rattan & the weights. But glad the paper towel pieces came off fairly easily.
Not a huge fan of the pottery barn finish. For the most part because it looks really sloppy on the sides and I’ve really never seen anyone do a great job at it. Also, the rattan needed to be toned down and the cuts on the front don’t look seamless. Now, having said all that, I couldn’t have gotten it to look this good. Great job, great tutorial as always.
Good job creating but to be honest it looks nothing like the Pottery Barn. For starters, Pottery Barn Sausalito wood grain is not covered and it has raised grain which is very prominent. It has a natural stain, no glaze. I don’t understand why this stripey glaze finish is compared to Pottery Barn.
Wow, simply stunning! I love it and I could use this as an entry way piece or I would even consider it for my bedroom. Many different uses for sure with that style.
That was a fun journey! I love that you added the rattan left over from your other project to add a little pazazz. Given it was solid wood, I would have turned the doors inside out, and swapped locations so you had a flat panel already. You'd have hinges and hinge holes to move, but you're great with that and you could still do the rattan and add a piece of straight rattan or other trim around the exposed edges. When you cut down stiles and rails, they lose visual weight and strength. Fortunately, you were adding that flat panel to compensate for strength, which was a really smart move on your part. The curve ended up very thin at the top and not the same dimensions as the side stiles and bottom rail on the door s. That texture was very cool...hope it sold for lots of money:)
Great job. I like it. You could use it for your television in the media room. aka Den. Next time use Parchment paper or wax paper not paper towels. You could add grass cloth wall paper or burlap type fabric to the inside of the doors to cover the particle board. Good video. Have a great week.
The older pieces especially the top furniture manufacturers are made so much better than what you get today. They are also much sturdier so you don’t have to be so delicate moving them or tipping over.
Excellent finish, you truly are inspirational and have really helped me up my game! Yes, use baking sheets when using glue, as a chef I can tell you nothing will truly stick to to it. It is designed exactly not to stick 😉
I love the rattan. I'm not a fan of the pottery barn look. It's just too trendy for my taste, but it's smart to do what sells. I definitely like this look a lot more than the look achieved with those wood grain tools. I've seen folks use the method you used and add knots that look so real, it's incredible.
Thanks for the feedback, I’m glad you like this look! Both looks sell really well for me so it is fun to take pieces no one else wants and try them out! thanks for watching and commenting!
Very nice! Made a big diff by trimming the outdated pieces. My son has a classic car business & often 😢 has to ship long chrome trim. He gets long tubes from carpet stores, I think that would be perfect for your pull-down plastic sheild. Maybe wax paper would've been a better choice on the rattan.
The point here is freeing up your mind to trust changing to a different model,Pottery Barn or whatever image. Thank you. I often think of how you started, looking to simply find a way out of debt during those covid desert times of isolation and worry. I never make lemonade thst i don't think of my friend, the couple from Texas. Stay well.
I forgot to ask...I need to paint some furniture for my home. The HVLP sprayer you actually used in the video is differnt than the ine you have listed. Which type of HVLP sprayer do you recommend if spraying indoors (I'm in Wisconsin, so no hot garage). Thanks Kara:)
Your rattan looks like caning to me. I used the caning on a project and wrapped my edges of the caning with upholstery webbing and used a staple gun to attach.
Love watching your videos. If you will, can you give a little advice to me. I bought a lexington locker room dresser to flip. It's smaller for the boys' room. How would you design to get a good return. I'm in Troy, Alabama . It's in good shape just cleaning and I hate the hardware or knobs
Beautiful I like the color and the total finished, would not suggest for beginners practice and something else first with the end result was nice I love to watch it!
hi dear!this is my first year being flipping furniture.since last month my pieces are not selling.does market gets slow around this time of year.if so when does it gets better again
It could have been a buffet without a hutch. My Mother had a matching set, china cabinet and buffet, that looked just like that in a different wood. Instead of paper towels on the caning, would parchment paper be better?
Next time using the cane, try using wax paper or parchment paper instead of a paper towel. When you go to attach that panel to the door sand the edges of it to get the rattan as smooth as possible and I'm alignment with your panel. That will look more refined. Overall it looks great I love the arch idea!
Real hardwood (cherry) to faux wood (as in routine particle board coverup) seems a travesty. And rattan is a dust magnet. Not to my taste, but good job applying the techniques.
I’ve just gotten as far as the part where you’ve asked about another idea as opposed to paper towels on the rattan, and my thought is that wax paper, or parchment paper, would be a better alternative. The wax paper would probably prevent the glue from sticking to wax paper, or parchment paper, only. I think I’d gravitate more toward the wax paper the more I think about it.
I have used ratan for inserts in shutters and have an easier way of attaching it . When it’s really wet staple it to your board. When it drys, the ratan will be really taught. No need for gluey mess😊
Very trendy! I think if the caning was closer to the drawer colour it might look more cohesive but overall you did a great job! I’m sorry you have to keep reading comments about waxed paper, Saran Wrap, etc.! I guess the first 30 commenters weren’t enough! 😂😂

Absolutely amazing transformation. I think this is your best flip yet!

Wow, I can’t believe how you changed this. Looks like a totally different piece. Nicely done
I love the new wood tone you got!!! Next level 👏

Yeah, this seems a little over the top critical. It’s a lovely piece, and it’s done. So what do you hope to accomplish by trashing it?
@@trueloveingod2691 constructive criticism can be helpful. You can't improve if you don't get honest feedback.

That is the truth!! Lol
I think you should have wood filled the area where you cut off the round details on the base. You can see it. Looks unfinished
Looks great, but I think you should paint the back of the doors. It looks unfinished.
Parchment paper instead of paper towels. Love the arches, much better than the strange style it had before 😊
Came on to suggest this ☝🏼
Definitely use parchment paper next time.
Yes! My thought exactly!
Wax paper or parchment paper may work better than the paper towel. That or a Silpat backing sheet placed between the rattan and the weights
Great idea! I will give it a try next time!
I Always keep wax paper around for glue ups.

Thank you, Kara! Great job with this dresser! I always look forward to watching your Saturday morning videos.

I just redid a buffet, you did a fantastic job.
Thank you for a great video.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
I like it. I like colors, so this neutral buffet would compliment the colorful wall art that I have in the house
Thanks so much!
How could you make the inside of the doors look nicer ?
I have no idea! open to suggestions! lol
Oh this was so fun to watch! I love this!! 😍
I think this is an incredible transformation. You have such great vision for hidden potential. Great job!

I love this pottery barn wood look. I was sceptical about the colour of the rattan but it all matches beautifully.
Ya know if you soak the Rattan and then put it on….it’s way easier and it shrinks to a nice taut look! 😊
Yes I did that. Thanks for watching!
Looks great! I would have used Saran Wrap, waxed paper or parchment paper to put between the rattan & the weights. But glad the paper towel pieces came off fairly easily.
The before was beautiful
I've never cut into a door like this!! I've always been too scared!! Loveeeeeeee it so much!
i was scared to death! lol
I do like it. Maybe invest in a router. It would help with the doors
Gorilla spray adhesive. Spray the door and the backside of the rattan. Will lay flat then. I painted the door black to create a shadow for the rattan
Ah!!! Yes!!!! That is what I was looking for as far as a solution!
I’ve done the gorilla spray. I use plastic rattan and it works great.
Dang girl!!!! Love this piece.
Buy a Demelrouter for small diy?
Better idea for glueing rattan: use a layer of wax paper, parchment paper, cling wrap, or aluminum foil - anything that doesn’t absorb glue.
Not a huge fan of the pottery barn finish. For the most part because it looks really sloppy on the sides and I’ve really never seen anyone do a great job at it. Idea about the rattan. Apply with spray adhesive used in automotive head liners and use a brayer to adhere the two together.
I love that idea! I’m going to try that out!
That came out beautiful!
Spray adhesive and parchment paper or wax paper.

Thought you could have dulled the yellow color of the rayan and the back of the doors were not down well
Wow it looks so different i like the idea of being able to change it...
yes same!

looks really good 👏👏👏instead of paper towels, you could try oven bake paper (that's waxed), so hopefully wont stick as much
Spray adhesive should work to avoid the glue coming through the rattan :)

You might try wax paper next time, instead of paper towels.
Use freezer paper and put the glue on with a sponge brush.
