This was my favorite video so far! Great concept to do 100 pans in the Mississippi. I'm inspired and entertained. I have a bucket list goal of finding one spec of gold. I ordered a pan. I thought I was going to wait until I hit the north shore next time, but now I think I might just head over to the river.
I'll have to try this. I live in a part of MN where several rivers cur through beds of slate interbedded with quartz intrusions a good gold environment. A lot of the till here is composed of the ground-down remains from this formation. A friend panned some small gold flakes from a nearby gravel pit so it's possible at my place.

Whenever I see someone panning for gold it always kind of surprises me how the tiny little gold flakes are dense enough to not be washed out of the pan like silt with how hard people shake it around. Like, I know gold is very dense but somehow it's still so weird that such small flakes resist the force of all that water moving around. Pretty cool process!

Hey, new to the channel. Have you thought of scrapping phones & computers etc for their PCBs & harvest the gold from them? I found a video using drain cleaner & water to get the gold off. You'd need to purify it after but it's an idea?! Since you swept a sidewalk at night outside a jeweler I figured this idea may be fair game too.
I've been watching your channel for a little while now it's pretty cool I'm a resident of Minnesota I'm a little bit Northwest of elk river Where you happen to be filming You should check out some of these smaller streams up this way Like Saint Francis river or Elk river or even the Rum river in Anoka. I see gold miners often believe it or not from time to time while I'm out fishing.... Might be worth a look.!! 👍👍😇
Do you ever find agates, fossils or coins? Had not pondered that the sand was not just muddy but black. There's curious conglomerate rocks across from the University that appeared to be furnace slag that I've collected for aquariums that look similar to lava but unlike other Minnesota rocks and haven't been able to identify them from my Minnesota geology book. Fun fact, Mammoth bones were found 10 ft below the ground at the intersection of 494 and 169 when it was built and are on display at the Long lake western Hennepin county historical society museum only open Saturdays.

I grew up in the mining region of northern Minnesota... Occasionally a little gold would show up but not enough to brag about. (Plenty of iron ore and other stuff.)
@@GlacialGoldHunter It sometimes will sound like glass in your classifier, sometimes it is and sometimes it's a piece of flint. After you distinguish the sound you'll find yourself looking over tailings a lil more.
You should try the pigs eye region in St.paul. The whole area is sand banks, and there should be plenty of parks since it's designed park land all the way down to where the St.Croix & Mississippi merge near Prescott Wisconsin.

That area of the river the sand is actually contaminated from the landfills that sit under eat it from back in the day. They wanted to dredge out pigs eye to make it deeper but since the sand is contaminated they can’t take it anywhere so they are making giant sandbar islands in the middle of pigs eye lake,

Ive found some up in the crow wing. It was so darn fine tho. I couldn't really figure a way at the time to snuff it up. I guess I should have just kept the material to experiment with. I don't know if itd be worth trying to smelt it or what.

If that Elk River spot is where I think it is i found labradorite there, or close to there. Not super flashy stuff but has some blues, gold, and green.

Just an idea on speeding up your classification to cons. A cordless drill in the bucket using a paint stirring bit. Stratification as the gold settles to bottom as the lighter materials come out at an angle. Look up jeff williams as he did it and do it how you find easier. Plenty of you have to use unlike us in the desert lol
The Mississippi water level changes so frequently in Minneapolis which is probably the reason it didn’t seem to make much of a difference if you went deeper into the water When it fills up vs when it drys up it’s crazy how deep it can get and also how shallow it can get too
Have you ever tried the Banjo Pan? Jason, from FGWC, used one on Lake Superior after sluices were banned. They sell them on the GPAA Web Site. They're like a mini sluice.

I use that Gold Rush Nugget Bucket for processing 5 gallon buckets of classified material. Allows me to move a lot of dirt very quickly & recovers that fine flour gold. Think every panner should have one & gets around the sluice laws.

I seen people on this side over here in Minnesota on Lake superior the guy didn't do that bad actually he had like a high banker and I calculatedhim and his five or six friends probably got about two or $250 worth of gold that day and gold is more pricey
@GlacialGoldHunter No, I'm in Thunder Bay, on the Canadian side. But it seems like an area with a lot of rivers that connect with Lake Superior. And it's right near the boundary of the Canadian Sheild which has tons of minerals and precious metals.

I’ve never thought of doing that. The chemistry of that looks a little dangerous and I’m no chemist.
Think there’s gold on pools south? Like pool 10 in Prarie du chien and pool 11 by guttenberg and cassville area?

This was near Columbia heights. Loud trains.

Kinda makes me wonder of any of it has migrated a few hundred miles south. Might have to pan a little in a sand bar just to find out.
There usually isn’t any in the light sand but it’s worth a look. Gravel is better.

That’s a good idea to try there. I was going to try at one spot but it was a state park and you can’t pan in a state park.

Hey man, great video. It popped in my newsfeed. I am I'm actually from Duluth and I don't have a solution or nothing but I bought other panning stuff I've been wanting to go. I seen people on this side over here in Minnesota on Lake superior the guy didn't do that bad actually he had like a high banker and I calculatedhim and his five or six friends probably got about two or $250 worth of gold that day and gold is more pricey

If you go up to the Duluth area, you could probably find a little bit more.

@GlacialGoldHunter No, I'm in Thunder Bay, on the Canadian side. But it seems like an area with a lot of rivers that connect with Lake Superior. And it's right near the boundary of the Canadian Sheild which has tons of minerals and precious metals.
We were sitting here enjoying your video. The lady not being impressed was very funny. My wife was loving it until she saw you dump a nice agate back into the river. After that, she was like this guy better find a big nugget, he just dumped a beautiful agate back into the river. Guess you failed to impress more of the ladies. Sorry.
