I tried panning the Zumbro in Oronoco myself. Think I found one or two specks. To top it off my new, improperly adjusted $600 eyeglasses slipped off my face. The current drug them off to never be seen again. Well, that day didn't go as planned.
Hey Gold Hunter. The Zumbro gold rush was real and they did find god in quantity. But not in the river bed that most people assumed it would be. The gold was found in a section of the river where there was steep river banks near the edge of the river, and the gold was found in a thin layer of sediment in the actual river bank about four feet up from the bottom of the river bank. Most of the gold found was in this layer of sediment and not in the river. BTW There is a large quartz vein that crosses the zumbro river somewhere that had a gold vein running thru it. below this quartz vein larger nuggets of gold have been found in recent years. I got this info from Mn gold prospecters association website years ago. Good luck!!!!! Michael M
That's very cool. Thanks for the history. I'm near Nugget Lake in Pierce County Wisconsin if you know where that is. Also the Rush River is only a few miles away. I recently heard about a picker being found in Rush River. That's the third one I've heard of. Actually, this last one could be called a small nugget.
@@SnakePlissken-ki2rw Yea I know where nugget lake is I have prospecting around there... Never tried the rush River before although I have fished the rush River many times but never prospecting it. Next time I go to the rush River for fishing I am going to bring my gold panning equipment! Thanks for the tip!!
@@maltfoto The pickers I've heard of were anywhere from where the Rush crosses Hwy 72 all the way down to south of Pete Freeze's bridge. That's the swimming hole where people park on the edge of the cornfield. I hope you find some. Good luck.
Another great one. You got me back into it and now I've been taking my son out on the weekends to do a little prospecting. If you're ever up north of Duluth a bit reach out! Have you checked out the MN DNR aggregate mapping project? Seems like a great resource.
I haven’t looked at that mapping project. I’ll have to check it out. I actually moved up to a spot south of superior so Duluth isn’t far from me. I haven’t tried panning there yet though.
I've lived in that area for over 50 years, and both of my grandfathers told me years ago the Oronoco gold rush was a hoax in hopes of helping the local economy at the time. Those rock ledges were put in around 2013 when they removed the dam following the 2011 flood.
Love your videos Lucas, keep up the good work! And yes, of course there is a creator, the evidence is all around us, one just needs to open their eyes (heart) to see it! God bless, and never stop filling your soul with His word!
Well you got some gold. I really give you credit for going in some of the places you go to look for gold. It’s a lot of work, believe me I know. It’s fun going to new places and checking things out. Great video, thanks for sharing
Great video, I found some specks of gold this weekend. You should check out the spot it 40 minutes south of twin cites. Got 6 pieces in 3 pans and was my fist time panning😃
Story is that a nugget the size of a pea was found just a quarter mile upstream from where i was. All public park land. Hope you check it out some time!
You mentioned private land. I thought in Minnesota you could be on a river as long as you didn’t step on to someone’s property? I’m going to try panning the Zumbro near dodge center. Thanks for the good info!
Yes you can walk up a river as long as you have acceded it through public land, but that doesn’t mean you can pan it or dig there. The mineral rights are not public on on private land.
Yes, you can fish it, paddle it, swim, simply enjoy it, but can't take anything out of it (except for legally caught fish) if the land under the water isn't 100% public (or you personally own at least the mineral rights).
My first video of yours; really enjoyed the content, especially your plug for a designer, a Creator. Not sure where this came from, but for all of this to be an accident is similar to a tornado going through a junkyard and at the end of the storm is a fully functional 747.
Yep it’s pretty obvious we were created. The two most important questions people can ask are 1. Is there a God? And if that answer is yes the next question is, “Who is God?
@@GlacialGoldHunter nope, I live in Duluth, where we have lots of bedrock, and clay. If you’re gonna find gold, and it sure won’t be much, it’s gonna be on the bedrock. I’ve poked around some in Arizona, and if you’re in a stream or a wash, the gold is almost always as low as you can go.
Not too many years ago the area you where panning in was lake shady. Oronoco had a flood that washed out the dam that stood right in the area you where panning in. Since then they have in and dumped most of that gravel and rock in there as a way to the river in its correct location and not wash out the lake bed sediment. This was all just recently finished.
Good morning Lucas! Thanks for taking us along on your hunt

Fun adventure. Thanks.
Heading up to Wisconsin I’ve cross this river multiple times. Always wanted to stop and test pan
Thanks for the great videos! I've panned many of the same places you've gone! Same results. Not sure how there was a gold rush there at all! Haha
The whole thing could have been a scam. Those were known to happen.
can't wait to see your vermillion trip.
You might want to slow down a little .we have real small gold takes longer to sink and likes to float away. thanks for the share stay awesome.
I was still able to catch those micro specks though.
vids are fire🔥
Another entertaining video. Question - When you pan, why do you use the side with the big riffles instead of the side with the small riffles? Thx.
I just figured the small riffles are for fine carful finish panning. In the field I am going quick so I use the big ones.
When I was a kid I was told fools gold is easy to find in locations of the Whitewater river not so far from the Zumbrota

Yes, all one has to do is look around and know that you know there is a God. @GlacialGoldHunter
Cool. Interesting
$6 a week maybe? 🍻
That would be more believable.
More luck than I have been getting on the Sauk River, but I'm still learning how to read a river getting there just not quite there yet
Yeah I have a lot to learn about reading the river too.
Those gravel benches you need to dig down to the bedrock if you want to find anything
You must be a mountain miner. Here is a glacial till a lot of times the best we hope for is a clay layer. Very little bedrock to be found.

Ah so that was worthless ground anyway. I didn’t spend too much time there but public land is spotty on that river.
could the driftless area have more or less of a chance for gold I wonder?
I’ve wondered that too. I haven’t explored it yet though.
Ever find lake superior agates?
I have! I have a good one in an upcoming video!
I have that same shovel
It’s a good one.
That’s like a dollar an hour! #Napoleon Dynomite
😆 great movie.
Say I see that you are wearing one of those ankle bracelets, who is tracking you?
No ankle bracelet just a knee brace from a torn ACL.
Gold is heavy so you should be checking under rocks, not skimming off the top.
Oh I do dig under rocks too.
I want to go
Grab a pan and get out there!
Looks around to make sure nobody saw you dance, proceeds to post the video on the internet for the world to see.
😆 it’s always more awkward when people watch you film than when you are on the film. I don’t know why.
There’s tons of black sand in the zumbro. Not much gold
Seems to be the case.
At $20oz $6 a day would be little over 1/4oz worth about $680 today, .999 of course so not a horrible day at work! 😆
That would be! If it was true.
11:37:00 lol
All that rip rap is only been there a year.
Oh so it’s brand new. Not enough time to capture any gold.
