In terms of Tom Hanks movies where Hanks LACKED chemistry with his leading ladies, I’d pick “Every Time We Say Goodbye” (with Cristina Marsillach), “Turner & Hooch” (with Mare Winningham), and “The Bonfire of the Vanities” (with Melanie Griffith). Tom Hanks had better chemistry with the DOG (Hooch) than with a human woman! SERIOUSLY!
Exactly. Their romance never made sense to me. I think one reason is because the characters didn’t spend much screen time together so their relationship & chemistry could gradually build up & deliver.
I was rooting for cho and Harry in the movies. After reading the books. I reaize i was rooting for the wrong couple and was mad on how they butchered the relationship and ginny
Liiiisten, Emily Blunt is FULL of chemistry. It’s the simple fact that Dwayne Johnson just isn’t someone who could have any onscreen romantic chemistry with ANYONE. Don’t put that blame on Dame Emily!
I’ve never felt him truly have a connection with someone in his films except for Kevin Hart. And that might’ve been because his character in that movie was more passionate.
Agreed! Dwayne Johnson was the one with the issue. Also I do think Kate Beckinsale does have chemistry with Josh Hartnett, Ben Afleck is the issue in Pearl Harbor.
Christina Ricci and Johnny Depp in Sleepy Hollow were so awkward. They’ve both said it was really awkward because they had known each other since she was a child.
I think the most chemistry I've seen from Hugh Grant were with Julia Roberts in Notting Hill, Julianne Moore in 9 Months, and Renee Zellweger in Bridget Jones
I totally disagree about Music and Lyrics. I thought Drew and Hugh's chemistry was outstanding and surprisingly authentic / believable despite the characters' age difference. It's one of my favorite movies, in part, BECAUSE the actors manage to sell me on their romance, despite the odds. The weird scenario somehow makes it more like real life to me than most romcoms. I've seen a lot of inexplicable, odd ball love matches, IRL. 🤷♀️
With Daniel Radcliffe and Bonnie Wright, the two have opened up mutliple times about how awkward the romance was for them considering they grew up with each other on set and the kids thought of eachother as family
That romance just feels weird from the start. You mean that Harry could not find anybody else but his best friend's sister who he has grown up with? It felt wrong in the book too.. Always get the impression that Rowling wanted Harry and Hermione together but coped out and just came up with this solution
@Denis-89 that's exactly what Rowling did. She said it would be too obvious to put Harry with Hermione so she went against what she wanted and put them with Ginny and Ron. Harry and Hermione had better chemistry, it was more natural.
JLO only had on-screen chemistry with George Clooney in Out of Sight. But come to think of it...Clooney has so much personal charisma that it's probably just his own charm bouncing off of her, back to him!!
Funny thing is that I feel like JLo has more chemistry with John Bradley who plays a supporting character than Owen Wilson who plays a main character 😂😂

Yeah, Jennifer Lopez is a huge narcissist, but, I always felt like she had great chemistry as Selena with the actor who played Chris in the Selena movie.:)
Lost City with Sandra bullock and Channing Tatum and My Policeman with the entire love triangle are just a few of the ones I feel don’t have any chemistry!
Well seeing as Reese and Robert played mother and son in Vanity Fair, it makes sense. I think the scenes were deleted in Vanity Fair but they did film them.
I can't say I agree with the whole list but some of them are on the nose. Not sure who would have good chemistry, though, with an anthropomorphic duck... Also, Katie Holmes turned down the follow up Batman movie to do another movie instead where she got to work with an older actress she idolized (Diane Keaton? Lordy, I can't remember right now but I just watched a thing about it a couple of days ago)
The problem with a lot of these pairings is that the actors have completely different vibes. Like imagine them in the style of Looney Tunes, and the other in the style of Hobie Brown (Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse), it doesn't mesh.
Yeah, it's zero mistake that jlo made the list so many times. Her and acting, chemistry, singing, they just don't go. Now dancing, that was something she was good at.
Hugh Grant was a dick to all of his American co-stars - Barrymore, Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Sarah Jessica Parker etc. - and it's very hard to portray chemistry with someone who treats you like dirt; therefore the incredible performance of Julia Roberts in Notting Hill requires a whole lot of praise. Vince Vaughn is sexist and disrespectful: all of his attempts at romcoms failed miserably. Owen Wilson is as passionate as a dead fish, no one could pretend to be head over hills for him. And many others - like Angelina Jolie, Madonna or Gerard Butler - are simply awful actors, who cannot portray emotions even while being paid for it. Some couples are so forced that one look at them takes away any curiosity about the movie.
Ezra and Amira from You People. There have been plenty of stories about interracial couples where the chemistry is amazing, but Ezra and Amira wasn't one of those couples.
Preach, I wanted to like the film and the couple, but the spark just wasn't present. It gets worse when you realise that Jonah Hill and Lauren London didn't actually kiss during the wedding scene, due to Covid regulations, with the kiss having to be digitally created via editing.
You meant to say Lauren London. While there are rom-coms with interracial couples, they’re far and few between as most of them are in dramas, mostly dramas based on true stories.
I blame that on making a pairing of a serious thespian like Ralph fiennes and Jlo onscreen just isn’t good about the only good performance she gave is as Selena
Agreed, maybe the movie would have benefited from a change of casting. It's also hard to believe that Jennifer Lopez would be considered an "Ugly Duckling", since she's undeniably gorgeous.
@@trinaqTo be fair, the fairy tale “Cinderella”, which “Maid in Manhattan” is loosely based on, is pretty much a case of “Hollywood homely” since Cinderella has always been pretty but was forced into servitude so her beauty wouldn’t undermine her ugly stepsisters.
@@michelleflood5843To be fair, Ralph Fiennes can do comedy like “Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit” and “In Bruges”. However, “Maid in Manhattan” isn’t “Wallace & Gromit” or “In Bruges”. 😂 I agree with you that Ralph Fiennes seemed too much of a serious thespian to be in a fluffy rom-com. Jennifer Lopez was better suited for “Maid in Manhattan” because romantic comedies are her forte.
Well, JLo seems to have zero chemistry with any guy in movies. Madonna just sucks as an actress… truly. Hugh Grant seems to lack chemistry with everyone also. Some of these are just bad writing but still. Goes to show that you can hire two random people to be a couple, but if the chemistry isn’t there, it just can’t be forced. As far as Star Wars, Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen were victims of Bad writing. Together, they seemed to work otherwise.
Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock in the proposal was a big one missed - I enjoy the movie and the actors as individuals, but the relationship that develops between the leads felt so forced
I would definitely add Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst from the Sam Rami Spider-Man Trilogy. I never bought their chemistry together even for a minute.
JLo and Fiennes are adorable in Made in Manhattan. This is one of Jennifer's classic romcom. I will admit Fiennes could have been better as a suave politician, but they had good chemistry. It is one of my favorite Jennifer Lopez romcoms. She was in her elements in this one.
I don’t know why that guy chose to act, or at least why he continues doing it, he seems to genuinely hate his job. He makes fun of it and only does the bare minimum he’s obligated to in order to cash the paycheck. His miserableness is probably why the biggest role he’s had in 10 years was as a CGI oompa-loompa

I actually disagree with Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher and Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler. Do I agree that these couples are somewhat dysfunctional and probably wouldn't last in the long run? Yes. However, I think the actors did a good job portraying the relationships and characters that they were tasked. Both couples are kind of the enemies to lovers type. Basically, they are the type of couples who annoy the crap out of each other and yet still feel some kind of pull towards each other. I think most people have seen plenty of examples of these types of couples who make others scratch their head in confusion as to how or why they got together, but as far as convincing the audience of that dynamic, I think both pairs of actors did a good job.
I feel like Hugh Jackman and Meg Ryan need to be on this list for Kate and Leopold. Don't get me wrong, I like that movie but their romance wasn't believable.
Calling it - Hayden and Natalie SHOULD NOT be on this list! I've re watched the prequels alot love them and they have chemistry so much MUCH better than other actors so not happy with them being here
I have to disagree wholeheartedly. Imo, they 100% earned their spot on this list. I agree with Ms. Mojo though, that it really wasn't their fault. Great dialogue and direction could have helped stir what little chemistry they could make. But that dialogue is PAINFUL and the scenes are some of the worst "romantic" scenes I've seen. However, I really don't blame Hayden Christiansen or Natalie Portman. They've both done much better in other films.
The Madonna movie chemistry was the worst. It was so cringe-worthy. And, the only movie where I think Hugh Grant had some chemistry was with Emma Thompson in Sense and Sensibility. That was because she was such a strong actress that lead him along in a good part. The same with Julia Roberts in Nottinghill. He is a great looking guy with boyish charm, but he mostly just stands around being attractive and vulnerable and the female lead has to do most of the work to make the relationship believable.
I'm OK with superman returns couple. But when you casted James Marsden as the other guy, the romantic leads' chemistry was already started with a minus. It took awhile to get it back up.
Agreed to all that😅. It is even more painful to see all this all over again. However, it is really good to lay this out in the hope that the film maker and casting team has learned from these movies.
The worst part about Maid in Manhattan is that Ralph Fiennes is clearly an actor in comparison to Jennifer Lopez, over-rated star of filmic predictability for whom movies liked Maid in Manhattan are tailor-made for (in the event that Sandra Bullock, Drew Barrymore, Kate Hudson, or Julia Roberts are unavailable), Fiennes probably still made significantly less money than Lopez and the movie is clearly one that an actor of his stature would only do because he needed either a hit or a paycheck.
I disagree with several on this list. I think some of these are confusing a character's tenacious personality with a lack of chemistry and I don't think it's the same at all. Music & Lyrics, Jungle Cruise and Jurassic World should not be on this list, but the rest are pretty accurate.
@@ljbimoore yes! I don't get why people like it, it is so incredibly cringe. Also Monster in Law. Really terrible movie, not sure why it is considered a romantic comedy.
I LOVED the mummy movie! It was different and really fun to watch. Cruise is an awesome action actor who has ZERO chemistry with any of his female costars with one exception..Nicole Kidman
I fully expected Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman to be higher on the list. Their on-screen relationship was SO bad. Portman did the best she could with horrible dialogue, but Christensen was just bad all around. So over the top with everything. It was cringey for me even as a kid.
@@MarsMellow84honestly I think I disagree if you watch sense and sensibility from 1995 with Emma Thompson there’s chemistry could be be because it’s Austen and period and that’s where he shines
You’re leaving out some important details. Yes, she wrote the first 50 Shades movie. But she’s also written every single Venom movie. And writing and directing are pretty different. I’m sure it’ll be fine.
I like Drew Barrymore but Music and Lyrics was one of her worse, she just didn't suite the role, I think Hugh Grant saved it a bit, and "Pop Goes My Heart" was fun
SJP is Carrie Bradshaw - once upon a time she had depth but Sex and the City ruined that. She will always be Carrie Bradshaw! She has no chemistry with other actors because of the world’s obsession with Sex and the City.

James Spader was so good looking when he was younger.
Looooove the secretary
I did think Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrel were cute once they knew they loved each other haha ❤
To be fair, Bella and Jacob had more chemistry before Jacob became an overly angry shapeshifter/werewolf. Lol
They had to Villanize him to make the stalking bedroom sneaking vampire seem like a "better choice". 😂
@@TheGoofy1932
Can you actually believe that’s a fact?😂😅
And of course before he began grooming her daughter.
Lmao The Room. He was freaking 25 years older than she was and kept treating her like a daughter 😂💀😂
Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt in the Mexican ! And Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson in Water for Elephants! Sooo bad 😂💀
Well seeing as Reese and Robert played mother and son in Vanity Fair, it makes sense. I think the scenes were deleted in Vanity Fair but they did film them.
I don't understand how Owen Wilson agreed to play opposite JLo whose narcissism ruins every movie.
Mad Money
The problem with a lot of these pairings is that the actors have completely different vibes. Like imagine them in the style of Looney Tunes, and the other in the style of Hobie Brown (Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse), it doesn't mesh.
Do not agree about Hugh and Drew - loved that movie and I felt - even if they didn't like each other - a connection re acting.
Yeah, it's zero mistake that jlo made the list so many times. Her and acting, chemistry, singing, they just don't go. Now dancing, that was something she was good at.
Blu and Jewel in Rio 2, she forces him to move to the Amazon and blames him for everything bad that happens
It's not a bad couple list, it's a "least chemistry actors couple"
Screenwriting 101
"You gotta put a love story for the audience to care about the lead characters. Even if it isn't necessary most of the times."
Definitely should’ve got honorary mention.
I definitely agree
I disagree about Knocked Up. That was legit the entire premise of the movie that the 2 characters were NOT compatible.
Maid In Manhattan definitely. I’m not sure that there’s ever been more wasted talent than that movie.
I agree with you that Ralph Fiennes seemed too much of a serious thespian to be in a fluffy rom-com.
Jennifer Lopez was better suited for “Maid in Manhattan” because romantic comedies are her forte.
I actually loved that film.
Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell in Four Weddings and a Funeral -- fabulous chemistry.
Hugh Grant had great chemistry with young, beautiful actresses. 😊 The more beautiful, the more chemistry he'd somehow pull out.
Oh come on, Drew and Hugh on music and lyric is excellent
Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock in the proposal was a big one missed - I enjoy the movie and the actors as individuals, but the relationship that develops between the leads felt so forced
I agree. A laugh out loud movie to watch multiple times for me personally, but they have very few believable chemistry. I love Sandra Bullock! ❤
Yes absolutely
Hayden and Natalie had great chemistry
That is what I said!!!! Great chemistry…bad dialogue but definitely great chemistry!
Those lines… no good actors could have saved them 🤣
Right??!!!! Exactly what I said!
Very true! Bad writing all the way.
I would definitely add Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst from the Sam Rami Spider-Man Trilogy. I never bought their chemistry together even for a minute.
I waited this for so so sooo long. Hope I'll see Nicolas Cage and that "national treasure" lady.
WM's editors have the best sense of humor.
10 movies where JLO has no chemistry with her co star. Next MsMojo video
I agree with every single one and it helped enlighten me with why I disliked some movies. Also thank you for saying twilight was poorly written
as a huge twilight fan i can assure you it's not cuz of the writing LOL It's soooo bad
I loved most of these pairings! *YOU"RE TEARING ME APART MsMOJO!!!*
Grant hasn't had chemistry with anyone in 20 years
He's so insufferable
He had chemistry with the working girl 😂
I don’t know why that guy chose to act, or at least why he continues doing it, he seems to genuinely hate his job. He makes fun of it and only does the bare minimum he’s obligated to in order to cash the paycheck. His miserableness is probably why the biggest role he’s had in 10 years was as a CGI oompa-loompa
Not since Divine Brown
I thought he had chemistry with Martine McCutcheon in Love Actually. Great flick

Failure to launch needs to be on this list!
Yes!
Anything with SJP
@@rachelhernandez1067 Failure to Launch was Kate Hudson.
@@wisteria808 nope
Yes. Failure to Launch was Kate Hudson.
Hard disagree on Pearl Harbor! That movie is perfect 👌🏽 And What Happens in Vegas, I def saw the chemistry.
Yes, I love Pearl Harbor
I thought Pearl Harbor was wonderful.
Hugh and Drew were great in Music & Lyrics
Robert Pattinson & Reese Witherspoon in Water for Elephants.
That's not really fair, though. Katie Holmes has zero chemistry with everyone😂
I feel like Hugh Jackman and Meg Ryan need to be on this list for Kate and Leopold. Don't get me wrong, I like that movie but their romance wasn't believable.
Right? She didn't feel appealing. Why did he like her? Her creepy boss liking her was more believable.
Sorry but Cameron Diaz”s Irish accent is offensive to me as someone of Irish descent
I’m pretty sure it was offensive to everyone. Lol.
Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. Happy monday night, Emily, take care and God bless you, greetings from Colombia to you as well.
I’m glad other people agree with me about “The Tourist” 😖
That's probably the only mainstream Johnny Depp's movie that I have no desire to watch at all. And he's actually one of my most favorite actors ever.
Calling it - Hayden and Natalie SHOULD NOT be on this list! I've re watched the prequels alot love them and they have chemistry so much MUCH better than other actors so not happy with them being here
Right!
He also had chemistry with Renee Zellweger in a creepy and strange way.
yes and if you see the original Swept away, the one from the 70's , the two actors had amazing chemistry
Carey Mulligan & Shia LaBeouf
"Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps"
Brandon Roths wife should have played Lois. She's a beautiful and talented actress. Look her up.
Yes, Courtney Ford is a very beautiful woman.
They worked together on dc legends of tomorrow
Just about any romantic comedy with Jennifer Lopez should be on the list and I am glad that is the case.
Yes! Wedding Planner should have been on here too, imo. Tbh, I've never seen her have chemistry with any film she's been in. 🤷♀
@@ljbimoore yes! I don't get why people like it, it is so incredibly cringe. Also Monster in Law. Really terrible movie, not sure why it is considered a romantic comedy.
@@ljbimooreOut of Sight? Not really a romcom strictly speaking but sort of
I LOVED the mummy movie! It was different and really fun to watch. Cruise is an awesome action actor who has ZERO chemistry with any of his female costars with one exception..Nicole Kidman
That is the *entire* premise and purpose of Knocked up.
Ok - the chemistry may have been terrible but the music in Music and Lyrics was great!
In 'The Bodyguard', Kevin Costner had a lot more chemistry with Whitney Houston's character's sister than her character.
I've been saying that. I love Whitney but she wasn't very good in that movie.
Not a mention of the Astronauts wife starring Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron , horrible chemistry.
I fully expected Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman to be higher on the list. Their on-screen relationship was SO bad. Portman did the best she could with horrible dialogue, but Christensen was just bad all around. So over the top with everything. It was cringey for me even as a kid.
I've never really understood the attraction to Hugh Grant
interesting to see this list, but personally i disagree with 13 of these listings but absolutely agree with the top two
Love your list!
Honestly, I’m not going to lie. I’ve never seen Hugh grant have good chemistry with anyone
Very true! 🤯
@@MarsMellow84honestly I think I disagree if you watch sense and sensibility from 1995 with Emma Thompson there’s chemistry could be be because it’s Austen and period and that’s where he shines
I thought he and Emma Thompson did in Sense and Sensibility.
Love Actually was okay. About a boy showed Grant’s acting chops well too, even if not romantic chemistry.
I thought he had a lot of chemistry with Andie McDowell in 4 Weddings and a Funeral.
SJP and Grant's lack of chemistry was so painful to watch...... Like Grant did not even try.....
SJP isn’t a good actor IMO. Hugh plays one character for every role. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
Hugh once said he only likes beautiful women. Which I'm sorry to say, maybe was why he had no chemistry with SJP. She's way below his standard...
Fun fact:
The writer from 50 SHADES OF GREY is making her directorial debut with VENOM: THE LAST DANCE

@@mscoop8361 It is as true as the existence of Morbius and Madame Web
You’re leaving out some important details. Yes, she wrote the first 50 Shades movie. But she’s also written every single Venom movie. And writing and directing are pretty different. I’m sure it’ll be fine.
@@ItsAlannaBanana They said the same thing about Borderlands

Sorry but J LO has zilch chemistry with any decent actor
I did like her with George Clooney. That was okay.
It’s because she’s only in love with herself
Same with Madonna.
Or with any decent men apparently…..the way she goes through men, engagement rings and marriages is alarming imo!
I like Drew Barrymore but Music and Lyrics was one of her worse, she just didn't suite the role, I think Hugh Grant saved it a bit, and "Pop Goes My Heart" was fun
By the way…is it just me or does Howard the duck looks like Macaulay Culkin?
He really does.
SJP is Carrie Bradshaw - once upon a time she had depth but Sex and the City ruined that. She will always be Carrie Bradshaw! She has no chemistry with other actors because of the world’s obsession with Sex and the City.
