Can I just say how pleased I was to see a proper crouch and jumping mechanic in a FPS, there are quite a few times when you have to jump around like in Half life and you must be accurate in your jump timing or you will fall. It really feels good when you nail them jumps and complete a section, I noticed a few reviewers hating this mechanic, one called them frustrating FPS platformer levels...well all I can say to that it you play too many shitty AAA games where jumping is as simple as turning up and pressing a button :) This is proper old school jumping and it's great.

Yeah. Fallen Order does great at looking like Star Wars. And even the writing and story feels decently like Star Wars (certainly magnitudes more than the Disney films which are glorified and terrible fan fiction writing). But it's gameplay is ripped pure from Sekiro (while making it easier). I love Sekiro's combat. And I liked FO overall. But it never really creates a combat system that is uniquely Jedi-like. It's Sekiro-lite with a Star Wars skin. And the problem with FO's success is we're probably increasingly unlikely to ever see a proper sequel to Jedi Outcast/Academy. Games that had an original combat system that really did feel specifically like Jedi combat as much as any game has ever accomplished.

Yeah it brought memories of Prey and HL tbh. It's great being in a huge linear building infested with enemies grabbing loot, staying alive and crafting better weapons, we need way more of these games.

Unfortunately for me the narrow FOV with no way to raise it is a deal-breaker for me. I couldn't get through Space Marine precisely because of the motion sickness. It's a shame because it looks like a genuinely good game.
The game is definitely a unique experience with ups and downs. So far the positives outweigh the negatives by a lot, though it *really* needs an FOV slider. Congrats on the upcoming 300k subscriber mark! :-) I really appreciate the reviews you pump out.
It took me a few minutes for my brain to recognize one or two of those robots. It was haunting me. Turns out they looked just like the robot in Lexx, the crazy sci-fi series that was out years ago.

The only thing that stood out to me that I didn't like was when you froze that enemy and shot it point blank with a shotgun. It just sort of vanished. It should of been blasted into lots of tiny shards. That would have been cool to see. Especially when you see how many effects are in this game when the action kicks off.
Interesting how different people appreciate the same things very differently. The first thing I saw when I came from work today and started YT was a video from someone who totally did not recommend this game - his reasoning was bascially 'too hard' and 'no FOV slider'. Well, I think that it is completely stupid to not have a FOV slider for PC games, but is this a reason to damn a game to hell? And about the 'too hard' thing, well, I don't like bullet hell shooters and roguelikes, because they are usually too hard for me and no fun at all. And guess what, I appreciate that and why a lot of people absolutely love those kinds of games and... then go and play something different.
Most of the reviews I watched didn't say it's hard but tedious to engage especially in the open world where every alarms are annoying to deal with and skipping those are preferable since they will just waste your resources.
@@4000ThousandSmiley It's actually fun avoiding cameras in the open world but you have to use patience and your senses, especially sound. Also the open areas do the opposite of draining your resources, I often deliberately engaged the robots and let them get repaired to kill them again as you get valuable neuro loot that is used to enhance your abilities so you farm them.

This is a rant because I was mad about the save bug, actually I think the game is pretty good. Don't believe this nonsense I said down below, there is definitely problems with the game, but I do enjoy very much now. Now that I have the chance to try this game I have to say: It's completely garbage, at least in this form. When they fix the problems, then it becomes a generic bioshock/prey copy without soul and originality. The only unique thing here is the pervert vendor machine which also pretty cheap lets be honest. Let's not even mention the story, characters and world-building are so bad/generic, why even bother to play this game?

It's good to see you finally say why x Ray vision is useful but I agree it shouldn't show enemies unless you tell it to, having the vision mode to find loot and explore is fine but that's all it should be used for
Maybe some enemies can have an augmentation that makes them invisible to your x ray vision (not trash mobs), and some even more elite enemies can even jam your x ray vision so that it gets disabled completely for a time.
X Ray vision takes away the uncertainty when you're trying to stealth around, it might make it more accessible but there's part of risk reward thought process that is taken away. I don't think Mack would care as much if it wasn't used for the majority of games that use stealth.

the whole xray vision or however they explain it is either 1 of 2 things. 1 a fun mechanic for tracking or hunting without showing loot or enemies only tracks, clues, etc. or 2 its like hogwarts legacy or this it seems where there is no surprise from anything cause u know exactly where loot is or enemies are which breaks immersion completely
I think it's #1 like you said. It's meant to be used when you can't figure it out any other way. Kinda like a "clue" button in old games for when you get stuck. You're not obligated to use it all the time, so only use it when it's needed.

I'll say this. his bit about xray vision isn't totally accurate. I'm well into midgame and i've rarely used the glove scanner thing. most of the time i forget it's there, not needed. Even the few times i did use it didn't understand it, figured it out on my own. The rave music in the puzzle dungeons (testing grounds) has been my favorite.
It's sad that people are boycotting possibly the best shooter to release for a long, long, long time. Only because people are paranoid that it'll fund the Russian government for the war against Ukraine. That said I am in love with this game, so damn fun thank you Mack for giving it your two cents. Had high hopes for this with a healthy dose of misgiving knowing games are mostly awful on release today.
Morality of the companies funding / sketchy policies with giving user data to the Russian intelligence services I think unfortunately gameplay wise it seems a lot is unfinished due to entire development teams being underpaid and kicked, followed by a new team which has absolutely impacted on the game in a negative way. Gameplay is very shallow, has a lot of tedious aspects, is not close to finished play wise, has a plethora of bugs etc. The aesthetic style is nice but that's where it stops and I think with the head of the final team coming from a marketing background they may have been guiding the game to look good instead of being good to play. Considering the price tag for this game, it's not even close to worth it, maybe if you caught a sale for 75% off in a couple of years if they've actually fixed and finished it.
@@evulclown Yes, I did indeed run into a couple bugs main ones being Audio, text, and couple of game bugs such as getting stuck in world object or whatever. I personally enjoyed the combat, felt nice to get to a point where you felt almost god like. My dislike for the combat was, Stealth really isnt possible as you get detected too easily (imo) and certain weapons were just pointless or not needed (especially in boss fights). Turn up pull out the biggest gun and few dodges and clicks and boom boss dead (seemed disappointing). Overall tho, did enjoy the look and feel of the game universe, sometimes the voice acting really tore me outta the moment because of how bad they were and a fair amount of audio didnt sync correctly with cutscenes (kinda strange).
OH! after thought, The devs have been streaming out some updates to address nasty bugs or improve things like bad audio missteps and getting stuck on a map object.
The FPS counter, top left corner? Can't see it on my phone. Zooming the video won't help because of the rounding of the screen corner on my Samsung S21 Plus 😅 would appreciate a larger number 👍🏻 well done otherwise.

I am a little confused about this game. Played it with game pass because heck, triple A can suck it and well, it was pretty handholdy so far. Lots of move there and do that markers but the worst thing, oh my God, was the talking. Non stop talking. I talk, my stupid hand AI thing talks, weird audio logs talk too, everything just won't shut op for once. It's crazy. I was honestly not able to focus on playing because everything just non stop talked all the time. Coming from stuff like Elden Ring and the likes I really feel so weird that these hyped up triple A games always feel like a highly scripted blockbuster interactive movie and not like a videogame while also not letting me play in peace more often than not. Maybe I'm getting old. But just let me play damn it!

I greatly enjoy games where I can have my own thoughts while exploring and if a dialogue overshadows this I get distracted easily, because idk what to focus on. That's also why Souls games and open world games like skyrim and so on hit a spot for me. I can be by myself and think for myself. I didn't have this a few years ago, but lately I am more or less what you would call a sensitive person to varying degree (thanks to the pandemic and university stress I guess). That can be a blessing and a curse when playing certain games lol.

Seems like Focus Entertainment wanted to hold up an early year release date. Game is fun, but feels like 3 more months would have delivered a well - rounded experience with better DLSS implementation, Raytracing, enhanced pathfinding and some QOL features like FOV and ultrawide support in HOR+.

So excited to hear its like Bioshock, Prey, and HL. Since its stable and not a buggy mess, I think it goes to show its proof that without giant publishers - polished games like this can be made and put big names to shame.
It's good but it's not perfect. I'm currently playing it and it has pop ins, especially on small objects for some reason. I've also see some things disappear, but that's it so far. Very good game in terms of technically however, and the gameplay is very smooth. Atomic Heart is what it looks like, so it delivered.

And yes, the algorithm works in mysterious ways. I'm subscribed to maybe a 100 channels and my feed is just constantly cycling through maybe 10 or 20 ish.

This was the first thing I thought when seeing the first gameplay videos. 'This looks like a mix between Bioshock and Singularity'.

Unfortunately for me the narrow FOV with no way to raise it is a deal-breaker for me. I couldn't get through Space Marine precisely because of the motion sickness. It's a shame because it looks like a genuinely good game.

The game is definitely a unique experience with ups and downs. So far the positives outweigh the negatives by a lot, though it *really* needs an FOV slider.

It took me a few minutes for my brain to recognize one or two of those robots. It was haunting me. Turns out they looked just like the robot in Lexx, the crazy sci-fi series that was out years ago.

Yeah man, It's great to hear this from you, I was a bit hesitant because the ad campaign for this wasn't great, but me personally see this as a game of the year contender, If Stalker 2 came out this year, it would beat this game, but thank you for always being honest, I'm really looking forward to this game now

The only thing that stood out to me that I didn't like was when you froze that enemy and shot it point blank with a shotgun. It just sort of vanished. It should of been blasted into lots of tiny shards. That would have been cool to see. Especially when you see how many effects are in this game when the action kicks off.
Interesting how different people appreciate the same things very differently. The first thing I saw when I came from work today and started YT was a video from someone who totally did not recommend this game - his reasoning was bascially 'too hard' and 'no FOV slider'. Well, I think that it is completely stupid to not have a FOV slider for PC games, but is this a reason to damn a game to hell? And about the 'too hard' thing, well, I don't like bullet hell shooters and roguelikes, because they are usually too hard for me and no fun at all. And guess what, I appreciate that and why a lot of people absolutely love those kinds of games and... then go and play something different.
Most of the reviews I watched didn't say it's hard but tedious to engage especially in the open world where every alarms are annoying to deal with and skipping those are preferable since they will just waste your resources.
@@4000ThousandSmiley It's actually fun avoiding cameras in the open world but you have to use patience and your senses, especially sound. Also the open areas do the opposite of draining your resources, I often deliberately engaged the robots and let them get repaired to kill them again as you get valuable neuro loot that is used to enhance your abilities so you farm them.
Nice to hear the shoutout to Prey (2017). I too enjoyed playing that, great atmosphere. This has a HL2 / Industria look to it and also looks great, so happy to give this a go!

Interesting, I messed with the leaked dev build and the graphics options at the bottom had RT Reflections and Shadows options, but the final release has no RT at all?
Game looks fantastic, and the gameplay loop looks smooth, but the lack of an FOV slider and the last-second inclusion of Denuvo is a huge bummer for me.

This is a rant because I was mad about the save bug, actually I think the game is pretty good. Don't believe this nonsense I said down below, there is definitely problems with the game, but I do enjoy very much now.
Now that I have the chance to try this game I have to say:
It's completely garbage, at least in this form. When they fix the problems, then it becomes a generic bioshock/prey copy without soul and originality.
The only unique thing here is the pervert vendor machine which also pretty cheap lets be honest.
Let's not even mention the story, characters and world-building are so bad/generic, why even bother to play this game?

It's good to see you finally say why x Ray vision is useful but I agree it shouldn't show enemies unless you tell it to, having the vision mode to find loot and explore is fine but that's all it should be used for
Maybe some enemies can have an augmentation that makes them invisible to your x ray vision (not trash mobs), and some even more elite enemies can even jam your x ray vision so that it gets disabled completely for a time.
X Ray vision takes away the uncertainty when you're trying to stealth around, it might make it more accessible but there's part of risk reward thought process that is taken away. I don't think Mack would care as much if it wasn't used for the majority of games that use stealth.
If it wasn't too different from 1440p to 1080p means in 1080p you're getting capped on one or more of your CPU threads.

the whole xray vision or however they explain it is either 1 of 2 things. 1 a fun mechanic for tracking or hunting without showing loot or enemies only tracks, clues, etc. or 2 its like hogwarts legacy or this it seems where there is no surprise from anything cause u know exactly where loot is or enemies are which breaks immersion completely
I think it's #1 like you said. It's meant to be used when you can't figure it out any other way. Kinda like a "clue" button in old games for when you get stuck. You're not obligated to use it all the time, so only use it when it's needed.

Hogwarts was also really bad for this but that could because it is aimed at a younger crowd i think but still a setting to turn hints on and off please

I'll say this. his bit about xray vision isn't totally accurate. I'm well into midgame and i've rarely used the glove scanner thing. most of the time i forget it's there, not needed. Even the few times i did use it didn't understand it, figured it out on my own. The rave music in the puzzle dungeons (testing grounds) has been my favorite.
It's sad that people are boycotting possibly the best shooter to release for a long, long, long time. Only because people are paranoid that it'll fund the Russian government for the war against Ukraine.
That said I am in love with this game, so damn fun thank you Mack for giving it your two cents. Had high hopes for this with a healthy dose of misgiving knowing games are mostly awful on release today.
Yep, I like the setting and the style of the game, it's a refreshing take of the genre while still using the typical mechanics.
Morality of the companies funding / sketchy policies with giving user data to the Russian intelligence services I think unfortunately gameplay wise it seems a lot is unfinished due to entire development teams being underpaid and kicked, followed by a new team which has absolutely impacted on the game in a negative way. Gameplay is very shallow, has a lot of tedious aspects, is not close to finished play wise, has a plethora of bugs etc.
The aesthetic style is nice but that's where it stops and I think with the head of the final team coming from a marketing background they may have been guiding the game to look good instead of being good to play. Considering the price tag for this game, it's not even close to worth it, maybe if you caught a sale for 75% off in a couple of years if they've actually fixed and finished it.
@@evulclown Yes, I did indeed run into a couple bugs main ones being Audio, text, and couple of game bugs such as getting stuck in world object or whatever. I personally enjoyed the combat, felt nice to get to a point where you felt almost god like. My dislike for the combat was, Stealth really isnt possible as you get detected too easily (imo) and certain weapons were just pointless or not needed (especially in boss fights). Turn up pull out the biggest gun and few dodges and clicks and boom boss dead (seemed disappointing). Overall tho, did enjoy the look and feel of the game universe, sometimes the voice acting really tore me outta the moment because of how bad they were and a fair amount of audio didnt sync correctly with cutscenes (kinda strange).
OH! after thought, The devs have been streaming out some updates to address nasty bugs or improve things like bad audio missteps and getting stuck on a map object.
I was impressed with game , very clever puzzles and great art design. I’m surprised it didn’t get more attention.
I got the game cuz Zelinsky drones cried about it. Not my style, but looks good.

I am a little confused about this game. Played it with game pass because heck, triple A can suck it and well, it was pretty handholdy so far. Lots of move there and do that markers but the worst thing, oh my God, was the talking. Non stop talking. I talk, my stupid hand AI thing talks, weird audio logs talk too, everything just won't shut op for once. It's crazy. I was honestly not able to focus on playing because everything just non stop talked all the time.
Coming from stuff like Elden Ring and the likes I really feel so weird that these hyped up triple A games always feel like a highly scripted blockbuster interactive movie and not like a videogame while also not letting me play in peace more often than not.
Maybe I'm getting old. But just let me play damn it!
Hope you reached open world parts because it gets better there and lets you do what you want to do. Not sure why you didn't like the talking, I thought it was fine.
@@ghos7bear Ah well it's all up to preference and taste I guess.. to me it was simply overwhelming to hear so much talk during combat and while exploring.. I greatly enjoy games where I can have my own thoughts while exploring and if a dialogue overshadows this I get distracted easily, because idk what to focus on. That's also why Souls games and open world games like skyrim and so on hit a spot for me. I can be by myself and think for myself.
I didn't have this a few years ago, but lately I am more or less what you would call a sensitive person to varying degree (thanks to the pandemic and university stress I guess). That can be a blessing and a curse when playing certain games lol.

Seems like Focus Entertainment wanted to hold up an early year release date. Game is fun, but feels like 3 more months would have delivered a well - rounded experience with better DLSS implementation, Raytracing, enhanced pathfinding and some QOL features like FOV and ultrawide support in HOR+.
Looks very good! Combat looks a bit too fast and intense for me (I'm past 40 and I'm just getting slower), but I like the setting.

I really enjoyed this game, but technical issues marred the experience. Once those get sorted, it's absolutely something I'd recommend.
As someone who grew up during the Soviet era in a Soviet country - this footage has the whole feeling, atmosphere of it perfectly! The only thing missing are the "Hruschovka" typical panel apartment complexes :)
So excited to hear its like Bioshock, Prey, and HL. Since its stable and not a buggy mess, I think it goes to show its proof that without giant publishers - polished games like this can be made and put big names to shame.
It's good but it's not perfect. I'm currently playing it and it has pop ins, especially on small objects for some reason. I've also see some things disappear, but that's it so far. Very good game in terms of technically however, and the gameplay is very smooth. Atomic Heart is what it looks like, so it delivered.

Enjoyable review, thanks Mack, well worth waiting for. However, you didn't seem as enthusiastic as I hoped considering you give it 8/10. This makes me think of two things - you were a bit tired, sleepy when you did the audio, or you're not that impressed with the game on the whole.
