Honestly, it just dawned on me. The best direction for this franchise is games. That's really the only way we're going to get the future wars and have the lore progress.

I’m a huge terminator fan. I enjoyed Dark Fate. Seeing arnie the T800 as ‘Carl’ the curtain salesman, was worth the entry fee on its own. Maybe you should give it a chance, Mack. 🙈
7:29 they really missed a trick here. They could have made it so the T800 crawls after you in the vent, a nod to the end of T1. Otherwise you can just hide in there knowing you're safe
They did put in a crawling one in one of the levels when you first link up with the resistance in Pasadena and get separated when you fall down the pit.
He does that to show how little of a fuck he gives about the name and character, and who can blame him? New, made-up protagonist with no prior history in the movies. Yeah, who cares?
Who knows what the conditions were like when they were making that game. It's pretty obvious that that wasn't the best they could do. I hope Terminator gets them enough money to really go all in on future projects, maybe expand the team a bit. This puts them on the map for me.
Is Rambo really that bad though? I was almost thinking about giving it a go after finishing this. I know it's a rail shooter and all, but is it really that horrible compared to other RS?
@@MelAncholynus I actually read the rambo game is not that bad if one accepts it is a rail shooter and gets it for decent price. It was just way overpriced and buggy at launch
The first Terminator flick is by far the best. I enjoyed 2 but Arnie as the villain was awesome, he genuinely felt unstoppable. There are so many classic moments in the first film, the sound of the plasma rifles alone was awe-inspiring back in the day.
I don't know if you noticed, but at the hospital part at 6:31 that dead resistance soldier is Robert Patrick, aka T1000. Brilliant review as always Mack! Won the game like 2 times already, big Terminator fan here.
This game surprised me so much, I've been playing on extreme using a mod to turn the HUD off, increased the fov in the .ini and unbound the x ray mode button and have been having such an immersive experience with it.
I've been saying for the past 10 years that all I wanted was a movie set right before the humans sent kyle reese back in time. Just as the terminators were sophisticated enough to not have shit disguises. That to me would make a great game or movie. You see everything from the perspective of a resistance fighter with limited resources and it becomes sort of like a Far Cry post apoc title mostly set in the dark and with you having to hide and scavenge for supplies as the search for humans continues. You have some robots that can be hacked but most of it is alone and you don't want to make much noise at all since the resistance uses guerilla warfare tactics to avoid conflict that is not necessary. This will allow you to hide a lot, explore, scavenge (just like fallout if your gun stops working) and find alternate path to figure out how to avoid being seen through studying maps so you don't need to shoot everything. (mostly get other robots to distract the cyborgs. At the end of the mission you get rated on performance and that determines what gear you can use so that you are punished for being reckless just like in the Golden Eye game on n64. But unlike that you can set traps and parkour your way to safety like a ninja if you don't have good weapons. (think of it like when you play Halo 1 on legendary difficulty)
Cool little game tbh. It already looks okay, but imagine how good it could've been if they actually got a budget and a longer time to work. Could've probably been more like Far Cry.. which is a stale formula.. But set in the Terminator universe it'd be sweet.
Even if you aren't a Terminator fan, this game is still very good. I've never seen a single Terminator film in my life yet I still enjoyed this game greatly and it made me want to check out the first two films.
good! don't watch anything besides those!! you will also notice a certain attack in the game is part of the first movie. they integrated their story nicely into the old movies.
Thanks for a good review. I just finished this on Xbox (yes I'm a console peasant subscriber) and I had a good time with it. I played on hard, but even that was way too easy once you get plasma rifles and upgrades that just rips through everything. Perhaps ammo should've been more scarce so that players are forced to switch weapons. + A game for fans, by fans. Movie references here and there, great soundtrack and sound design with a couple of sweet versions of the main theme. + Explosions are very satisfying in this game, and everything goes out with a bang. + Gunplay is decent, I like the feel of the early ballistic weapons. + No social justice propaganda. + No microtransactions. - Lasts around 10 hours, and not much replay value. Easily got all achievements in one run. So I think the pricing at $60 is a little bit too steep on console. - Game has a lot of different systems ususlly seen in larger productions like open world rpgs. They feel a bit shallow and tacked on in this game. Anyway, it's nice to have a decent Terminator game. What I would like to see next is a Terminator game set in the 80's or 90's where one single Terminator would be a tremendous threat, as they are in the movies. I think it would resemble Alien Isolation a lot if they made one like that. Maybe it's because I was very young when I first saw it, but the first movie in particular felt more like a horror movie the longer it went on, and the more the metal skeleton got exposed.
I would love to play an authentic terminator game where you're hopelessly outmatched in open combat and have to run a real resistance, tactically organizing ambushes and raids, strategically choosing targets, with an enemy AI that actively tries to analyze patterns in your choices to predict your attacks, plan traps and zero in on your possible safehouse locations. Unfortunately, this looks like another OTR shooter where you're a superbeing mowing down armies with your automatic cannon while your fellow resistance exists primarily for window dressing. Kind of like Homefront: The Revolution.
Amazing game. Really get moments where you feel like you're in the film. Lighting is awsome Sounds are awsome, and the guns kick ass but you know what really blew me away.... trade resources.
Hey I get that you keep things real on your channel. Personally find it refreshing when you review a game that you genuinely like. This was a good review video, needs more thumbs up.
Two great nods to the movies where you can tell the devs are huge Terminator fans - the body in the chair in the hospital area is literally Robert Patrick's body (I would assume Skynet is prepping the T-1000 at this point also) and the other is further in the game when you have to take on Skynet (I won't spoil story stuff, even if the story is a bit meh basically) more or less they have the Skynet pyramid thingy that was in Terminator 3D the ride. Which is a nice little nod to that bit of lore that never made it into the movies, but Cameron wanted in anyway. Also the guy (or gal, dunno the name sorry) who did the music for this game did a damn good job. Taking the iconic themes from Brad Fiedel and bringing them up to date for the game was awesome to hear (and they are well done, so yeah!) along with the sound design in general.
A terminator game done in the style of metro would be perfect i reckon, you could do the similar start in the abandoned subway tunnels as well. The style on this reminds me of old school FPS games.
Look at the 2nd gen plasma guns this way, the resistance now has weapons good enough to overpower the terminators. Showing how the terms are a perishing threat.
It looks like this game has one gameplay mechanic that you can't just replicate from game to game; passion and healthy fanboyism. Everyone I know that's played this says nothing about it is mechanically "great" but the fact the devs are true Terminator fans and love the source material allowed them to really capture the feeling in way you can't do without that passion. That is, in itself, an element of the gameplay and one you rarely see at all honestly.
Instead of bumping up the difficulty, I just didn't upgrade my weapons. I think they've just done it how they did so it's not too hard for anyone and people can choose how hard they want the game to be. If you play without weapon upgrades and on hard it's a pretty hefty challenge.
Pretty solid review - i just finished the game yesterday for the first time (got all trophies/achievements to 100% as well) and damn, do i ask myself where all the hate from "professional critics" (aka gaming magazine/website journalists) is coming from, when it comes to "Terminator: Resistance" - i simply don't get it? I nowhere near consider myself a diehard Terminator-fan, i just like the first two movies and that's the tea (T3 was Mkay, Salvation complete toilet material, and after that, i stopped watching Terminator movies entirely tbh) - but man, did i have a blast playing through this game. Graphics: Nothing to bedwet about, but given the budget this game obv. got, still pretty decent. Gun play: pretty solid - nothing to complain here. Voice acting: Has room for improvement, but it's actually not as bad as some people say it is. Difficulty: Pretty accessible for all kind of gamers - from casual to professional. Overall, a solid 7,5 out of 10 - and again, i ask myself where all the god awful and truly undeserved 47-55 or 3 out of 10 reviews from so called "professional gaming journalist" are coming from - what in god's name did they actually play? In my eyes the guys and girls @ Teyon have more than redeemed themselves for the pile of shit that was called "Rambo: The Videogame". Glad to see that at least channels like yours, show some love for "Terminator: Resistance".
This is a good old fashioned shooter that doesn't throw gimmick after gimmick at you! Solid visuals incredible sounds fun gameplay and an amazing enemy to face...... Great game.
I found it little bit funny how the big games, as example Death Stranding gets excellent rewiews by *gaming* newspapers and awful rating by *Worth a buy*. Then this game its on the contrary.

I had been keeping my eye on this since I heard about it a couple of months ago. And whilst I had seen other reviews on TH-cam and Steam, I never trust anyone else to say it like it is. Hey something cool I found on this game. If you move vr plugins into main directory and set launch option as -vr it launches on oculus and is some what playable. You can look around in the locked view in-game cut scenes as well.
Massive fan of the original Terminator movie from 1985. And a big fan of the mega drive Terminator game and Terminator Dawn Of Fate. I absolutely loved Terminator Resistance. Very cool Terminator game. My favourite so far.
This actually looks good, now imagine this with an open world like Tom Clancy Wildlands and being able to attack Skynet facilities etc however you wish :D
The fact that the same developers of Rambo: The Video Game were able to make a better Terminator experience than whatever the fuck Dark Fate was trying to be is astounding. I mean think about Teyon made one of the worse move licensed games ever and here they are now outshining James Cameron.... All I can say is good job Teyon you've redeemed yourself.
Hey Mack, Teyon just released a new free content update (17 GB) where you can play a campaign as a T-800 Infiltrator! Could be good material for an updated review on this game :)
It's called "Duckfacing" your lips out Mack, and the fact that the weapons and other sounds are so good(that scene with the Plasma rifle and the 80's Electro soundtrack ripping out of the Speakers while you blast at the T-800's etc...well it plain brings a tear to my lower eye!)
70 percent awesome (plot, game mechanics, sound fx, performance).30 percent awful (voice acting, level design). By far, the best Terminator game/film to come out in nearly 3 decades.
Just finished it on PS4. I do kinda wish there was something like a Chapter select or New Game+ to see different decisions without having to worry about leveling up though. It was a wee bit janky and somewhat on the easy side on Normal after you start getting some proper weapons. But I liked it a fair bit, definitely one of the better budget games out there and I feel like I got my moneys worth out of it.
I just finished the whole game and uploaded it like today. Its the best thing that ever happens to me as a Terminator Fan. Its not perfect, and you do gank and pwn the most badass models which is kind of meh.. (the T800) Its the movie we never got, Salvation was going this way, but they cancel the other 2 movies in the future war sadly. Now Dark fate destroyed the whole lore... If they did some slight adjustments to the dmg, fewer terminators or more terminators but also more resistance fighters, this game would have been 10/10 for me. Its also a bit buggy at times. Doesn't feel super polished, but still a solid 8/10 for me.
Fortunally it is realy mod friendly, thanks to the Unreal 4 engine it is on, at the time and on Steam their are already half of dozen guides how to polish graphics for example. I cant wait for some mods or guide or something that will rebalance this game a little. For example fixing the loot system which is too genource right now.
The guns dont do as much dmg as you think, play on the hardest difficulty and you will see. Laying traps and mines for the T-800 is about the best and only way to kill them later on, because run out of amo and they cannot be killed if they catch you at close range. Not to mention they can hear and see better then you. They are also super tanky and can 2 shot you.

What is great about this game, in not only my opinion, is that the dev's when creating this game where very true to the source-material, which is kudos to them in my opinion !
I'm very surprised at how accepting you are with this game and have very honest, positive opinions. I expected you to rip it to pieces. I admire that you haven't simply rehashed what everyone else seems to be saying as the game has been bashed badly. I have it on PS4 and I am enjoying it same as you. It's rough around the edges but does the franchise justice. It's very decent once you get past the game's glaring limitations. I wish the console had similar options to pc, especially with tweaking the graphics.
I came across this game by accident when trying to find an fps. I wasn't expecting anything great but was actually pleasantly surprised. It was good fun. Nothing too difficult but just good fun.

Maybe it's because I was very young when I first saw it, but the first movie in particular felt more like a horror movie the longer it went on, and the more the metal skeleton got exposed.

I would love to play an authentic terminator game where you're hopelessly outmatched in open combat and have to run a real resistance, tactically organizing ambushes and raids, strategically choosing targets, with an enemy AI that actively tries to analyze patterns in your choices to predict your attacks, plan traps and zero in on your possible safehouse locations.
Unfortunately, this looks like another OTR shooter where you're a superbeing mowing down armies with your automatic cannon while your fellow resistance exists primarily for window dressing. Kind of like Homefront: The Revolution.
This game fucking rocks, finished it last night and had a blast from start to finish.

Two great nods to the movies where you can tell the devs are huge Terminator fans - the body in the chair in the hospital area is literally Robert Patrick's body (I would assume Skynet is prepping the T-1000 at this point also) and the other is further in the game when you have to take on Skynet (I won't spoil story stuff, even if the story is a bit meh basically) more or less they have the Skynet pyramid thingy that was in Terminator 3D the ride. Which is a nice little nod to that bit of lore that never made it into the movies, but Cameron wanted in anyway.
Also the guy (or gal, dunno the name sorry) who did the music for this game did a damn good job. Taking the iconic themes from Brad Fiedel and bringing them up to date for the game was awesome to hear (and they are well done, so yeah!) along with the sound design in general.
A terminator game done in the style of metro would be perfect i reckon, you could do the similar start in the abandoned subway tunnels as well. The style on this reminds me of old school FPS games.
Look at the 2nd gen plasma guns this way, the resistance now has weapons good enough to overpower the terminators. Showing how the terms are a perishing threat.
So in short Terminator Resistance is a proof that any game developer should have second chance.

It looks like this game has one gameplay mechanic that you can't just replicate from game to game; passion and healthy fanboyism. Everyone I know that's played this says nothing about it is mechanically "great" but the fact the devs are true Terminator fans and love the source material allowed them to really capture the feeling in way you can't do without that passion. That is, in itself, an element of the gameplay and one you rarely see at all honestly.
Immersion is why we play games, Mack.

Instead of bumping up the difficulty, I just didn't upgrade my weapons. I think they've just done it how they did so it's not too hard for anyone and people can choose how hard they want the game to be. If you play without weapon upgrades and on hard it's a pretty hefty challenge.

Pretty solid review - i just finished the game yesterday for the first time (got all trophies/achievements to 100% as well) and damn, do i ask myself where all the hate from "professional critics" (aka gaming magazine/website journalists) is coming from, when it comes to "Terminator: Resistance" - i simply don't get it?
I nowhere near consider myself a diehard Terminator-fan, i just like the first two movies and that's the tea (T3 was Mkay, Salvation complete toilet material, and after that, i stopped watching Terminator movies entirely tbh) - but man, did i have a blast playing through this game.
Graphics: Nothing to bedwet about, but given the budget this game obv. got, still pretty decent.
Gun play: pretty solid - nothing to complain here.
Voice acting: Has room for improvement, but it's actually not as bad as some people say it is.
Difficulty: Pretty accessible for all kind of gamers - from casual to professional.
Overall, a solid 7,5 out of 10 - and again, i ask myself where all the god awful and truly undeserved 47-55 or 3 out of 10 reviews from so called "professional gaming journalist" are coming from - what in god's name did they actually play?
In my eyes the guys and girls @ Teyon have more than redeemed themselves for the pile of shit that was called "Rambo: The Videogame".

This is a good old fashioned shooter that doesn't throw gimmick after gimmick at you! Solid visuals incredible sounds fun gameplay and an amazing enemy to face...... Great game.
I found it little bit funny how the big games, as example Death Stranding gets excellent rewiews by *gaming* newspapers and awful rating by *Worth a buy*. Then this game its on the contrary.

This and Supraland were the two big surprises for me this year. Both very different, but excellent to play and loads of fun like all games should be!
I had been keeping my eye on this since I heard about it a couple of months ago. And whilst I had seen other reviews on TH-cam and Steam, I never trust anyone else to say it like it is. I've been waiting for this review to come up and I'm so glad you did it so thanks for that! I know it takes a lot of effort to do reviews these days and I just wanted to say it's appreciated. So thank you! And I'll definitely be buying this now (I'm a huge Terminator fan too, couldn't agree more I'll never watch the new films!)
This is perhaps the one game where spongy enemies make sense, so use it!

Hey something cool I found on this game. If you move vr plugins into main directory and set launch option as -vr it launches on oculus and is some what playable. You can look around in the locked view in-game cut scenes as well.
Massive fan of the original Terminator movie from 1985. And a big fan of the mega drive Terminator game and Terminator Dawn Of Fate.
I absolutely loved Terminator Resistance. Very cool Terminator game. My favourite so far.
This actually looks good, now imagine this with an open world like Tom Clancy Wildlands and being able to attack Skynet facilities etc however you wish :D
The fact that the same developers of Rambo: The Video Game were able to make a better Terminator experience than whatever the fuck Dark Fate was trying to be is astounding. I mean think about Teyon made one of the worse move licensed games ever and here they are now outshining James Cameron.... All I can say is good job Teyon you've redeemed yourself.

and the fact that the weapons and other sounds are so good(that scene with the Plasma rifle and the 80's Electro soundtrack ripping out of the Speakers while you blast at the T-800's etc...well it plain brings a tear to my lower eye!)

70 percent awesome (plot, game mechanics, sound fx, performance).30 percent awful (voice acting, level design). By far, the best Terminator game/film to come out in nearly 3 decades.
Just finished it on PS4. I do kinda wish there was something like a Chapter select or New Game+ to see different decisions without having to worry about leveling up though. It was a wee bit janky and somewhat on the easy side on Normal after you start getting some proper weapons. But I liked it a fair bit, definitely one of the better budget games out there and I feel like I got my moneys worth out of it.

I just finished the whole game and uploaded it like today. Its the best thing that ever happens to me as a Terminator Fan. Its not perfect, and you do gank and pwn the most badass models which is kind of meh.. (the T800) Its the movie we never got, Salvation was going this way, but they cancel the other 2 movies in the future war sadly. Now Dark fate destroyed the whole lore...
If they did some slight adjustments to the dmg, fewer terminators or more terminators but also more resistance fighters, this game would have been 10/10 for me. Its also a bit buggy at times. Doesn't feel super polished, but still a solid 8/10 for me.
Fortunally it is realy mod friendly, thanks to the Unreal 4 engine it is on, at the time and on Steam their are already half of dozen guides how to polish graphics for example. I cant wait for some mods or guide or something that will rebalance this game a little. For example fixing the loot system which is too genource right now.

The guns dont do as much dmg as you think, play on the hardest difficulty and you will see.
Laying traps and mines for the T-800 is about the best and only way to kill them later on, because run out of amo and they cannot be killed if they catch you at close range. Not to mention they can hear and see better then you. They are also super tanky and can 2 shot you.

What is great about this game, in not only my opinion, is that the dev's when creating this game where very true to the source-material, which is kudos to them in my opinion !

I'm very surprised at how accepting you are with this game and have very honest, positive opinions. I expected you to rip it to pieces. I admire that you haven't simply rehashed what everyone else seems to be saying as the game has been bashed badly.
I have it on PS4 and I am enjoying it same as you. It's rough around the edges but does the franchise justice. It's very decent once you get past the game's glaring limitations. I wish the console had similar options to pc, especially with tweaking the graphics.
I came across this game by accident when trying to find an fps. I wasn't expecting anything great but was actually pleasantly surprised. It was good fun. Nothing too difficult but just good fun.
Great review, Mac. Did you ever play Bethesda's first terminator game from around 1990? You played as the Terminator or Kyle Reese and had to kill or protect Sarah Conner in an open world Los Angeles. It had a multiplayer component too. Ahead of its time, I think.
