SPM really didn't deserve it, and recently I've seen a resurgence of criticism towards this game centered on how bad the boards were and how horribly balanced was. FINALLY, someone recognises Mario Party DS for the great game that it is! I still play it today and it's one of my favourite DS games alongside Mario Kart. Super underrated and should really be talked about more. The boards were super creative since the characters were shrunk down, the bosses were fun and the mini games are mostly very fun (at least for me), as well as the extra modes, puzzles, etc.
I remember playing this game through many stages of my life, unlocking all the minigames to come back to this game in 2014 to complete the story, to then defeating each boss to get every trophy and incidentally capping the 99,999 MP points limit… I invested way too much time into this game than I thought
There is a way to grind party points which is to play max turns on DK Stone Statue and save scumming by staying in last till the Final 5 Frenzy to get stars for 5 coins while having lots of coins as having enough could let you possibly get max stars. That lets you get lots of points.
I honestly had so much fun playing it with my cousins during the holidays, we all spread out and used download play to organize a big game! It was also my only MP experience outside of 8 with my cousins as well lol.
As someone who got my DS in 2008 this had been the perfect game for me. I loved playing this game. I still remember the excitements and frustrations at trying to beat some of the bosses. For some reason the first boss had always been the hardest for me, because it was difficult for me to aim and blow into the mic at the same time... (only now years later do I know there's a button to press instead) 😅 But then BOWSER OH BOY. Many hours were spent on that one.
This game was my first DS game. I actually got it months before my DSi, on my birthday, cos the shipping on my DSi was delayed cos of issues. I loved the game so much. It was and still is my favourite Mario Party, slightly fuelled by nostalgia.
Wasn't expecting him to make this video, but I'm so happy he did damn. Also MP6 is the best one. I love the Tiny theme too about this game. Best single player mode as well
Got this game in a lot I bought at a flea market once and I never expected it to be so awesome! Also I was able to play it regularly with friends and flatmates with just my single cardridge.

I loved playing this game as a kid. I didn’t play this much with friends since I didn’t have very many, and only one friend with a ds and this game. Although I remember playing this game with her everytime I was near her. When i was little i used to go to my grandmas house a lot since my parents were always busy. I was friends with this neighbor over there. She was amazing. We did everything together and when she moved, I was devastated. But back to the topic, this was our favorite game to play together. We loved this game so much it was like a priority to play it every time we saw each other. We loved playing that one mode with the rocket, in which you needed to get enough parts to build a bridge to a rocket ship in the middle of the map to escape. You would get parts by winning minigames. This was our favorite and i remember us putting the bridge parts in each other’s spaces because we loved to help eachother out. She truly was amazing. I really miss her. Ok, back to the topic at hand. I also played this game in single player a lot since (like i said) I didn’t have many friends. I remember playing it a lot and trying to beat kamek’s library and never could. No matter how hard i tried i could never beat it. I also loved just replaying minigames. I thoroughly remember playing one with a train. Anyways, mario party ds is one of my favorites on the ds because of how much joy and memories it brought me. TL;DR: I played this game with a friend for most of my childhood and had many memories with her since i barely had any friend and played single player a bunch since i was a lonely kid

I'm very pleased to know my childhood DS game lineup still holds up today. Mario Party DS and Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games were both games I was worried wouldn't be as good as I remembered them once I knew about their series' reputations. Then I was shocked to hear that they were some of the best in the series. Now I really wanna go get those games again.
This game is just brilliant. The perfect Mario Party, I'm still playing it with friends and even alone, because I'm going for WR in Boss Bash. It's a piece of my childhood I'll never let go.
This has always been my absolute favorite Mario Party game. The story mode is so fun and the build up for the bosses is intense, some of the music is absolutely incredible (but yeah most of it is just ok), the different map gimmicks are incredibly creative and make for fun and varied boards, and I think this is the only MP game in which I adore 95% of the minigames with only a small handfull I dread playing. I played the hell out of it as a kid and I really hope it someday gets an HD remaster on the Switch or something so I can relive the glory days of this game with friends

I literally just beat MPDS story mode. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!
I was stuck on the Bowser boss fight for years so a few weeks ago I looked up how to do it and I feel so stupid that I was never able to do it before
I remember playing this game through many stages of my life, unlocking all the minigames to come back to this game in 2014 to complete the story, to then defeating each boss to get every trophy and incidentally capping the 99,999 MP points limit… I invested way too much time into this game than I thought
This is my first Mario Party so therefore is perfect
There is a way to grind party points which is to play max turns on DK Stone Statue and save scumming by staying in last till the Final 5 Frenzy to get stars for 5 coins while having lots of coins as having enough could let you possibly get max stars. That lets you get lots of points.
"This is the first entry to allocate a space to [duels] in the main party mode"
Mario Party 6 and 7: "Are we a joke to you?"
But in this game they did it better. I don't like how there are already duel spaces in the beginning of the board.
Mp ds was literally a big part of my childhood, it's something I will never forget. Might just probably get a 3ds in order to relive it again.
Considering I actually just recently bought MPDS, I can’t think of more perfect timing to watch this video
I honestly had so much fun playing it with my cousins during the holidays, we all spread out and used download play to organize a big game! It was also my only MP experience outside of 8 with my cousins as well lol.
Can we all agree that Toadette's Music Room is the best board in the game?
Debatable. I prefer bowser's pinball machine
(only now years later do I know there's a button to press instead) 😅
But then BOWSER OH BOY. Many hours were spent on that one.
8:12 I’d argue that people actually prefer playing AGAINST DK as a CPU for… reasons…
Hard DK ?
This game was my first DS game. I actually got it months before my DSi, on my birthday, cos the shipping on my DSi was delayed cos of issues. I loved the game so much. It was and still is my favourite Mario Party, slightly fuelled by nostalgia.
Wasn't expecting him to make this video, but I'm so happy he did damn. Also MP6 is the best one. I love the Tiny theme too about this game. Best single player mode as well
ProtonJon anytime he sees Mario Party DS after the LP on TRG: *war like flashbacks*
Why not do the whole “Mario Party” retrospective?
Just been watching all the Mario Party DS videos I could find the past couple days and now this drops
Nah nah nah, This isn't just the best handheld Marioparty, this IS THE BEST *MARIOPARTY*
_in my opinion_
Super Mario Party is sorta overrated
@@pinguthepenguin9296 that’s bcuz super Mario party sucks
In my opinion In my opinion in my opinion
Got this game in a lot I bought at a flea market once and I never expected it to be so awesome!
A solid number of good and fun boards, a great number of entertaining and fun mini games and EVERYTHING is based on the plot that the characters got shrinked. Amazing!
Also I was able to play it regularly with friends and flatmates with just my single cardridge.
Everyone saying this is _obviously_ the best handheld mario party but honestly I think star rush is really good
Nah
Yeah it is. If only it had actually interesting boards for it's "classic party" mode and it would have been great.
@@miwestraveler3986 that's y it's bad. A mario party is good cos of 3 things: mechanics, boards and minigames. Star rush fails at the 1st 2. It's like me saying if paper mario sticker star didnt have its flaws, it would be the best paper mario game
@@mikayel6175
1 : some of Super Rush's mechanics and boards (mainly Toad's Scramble) are far, FAR from being failures. I'm saying if all modes were as good, it would have been a great overall game
2 : no one said Super Rush would have been the best
3 : Sticker Star would have been a great game if some of it's flaws were adressed, and it's definitely not a bad game as it is.
travelers don't agree with u on either but let's just agree to disagree
People really need to play this game. This and NSMB were my entire childhood until I lost my DS but man i had so much fun just playing them for hours.
Not to brag or anything, but I'm pretty much a god in the mic games.
My lungs are in pain
I loved MP DS. It was all me and my sisters would play when we were kids
"Why Mario Party DS is the best handheld Mario Party"
The answer: cause literally every other handheld Mario party was hot garbage
Nostalgia just hit me like a semi-truck seeing the boards and minigames
This title is impressive until you remember it's competition doesn't even have multiplayer
What about Super Mario Party on the Nintendo Switch?
All the 3DS ones do
I just realised this is the only traditional mario party portable game
@@majesticmo5048 what about all Super Mario Party on the switch
@@VexKingTH-cam I meant to say handheld in which the switch is more of a console
That is like, the most dry take I have ever seen in a TH-cam title. I don't think I've ever met anyone who even likes any of the other handheld Mario Party games, let alone thinks they're the best.
A LOT of people like Super. It sold nearly double the units DS sold in fact.
@@silokhawk Oh, Super is technically handheld. I forget about that.
@@silokhawk DO they, though? I always thought people HATED Super.
I remember playing this game at the playground loved it.
thank you for making this video, Mario Party DS wasn't a very big part of my childhood but I do have many fond memories of it. I'm glad to see it get the recognition it deservers.
Mario Party DS was the only Mario Party I have played and is by far my favourite DS Game. My sister and I used to play it for hours and not get bored and the game was a big part of my childhood. It's nice to see that also many others also played this game and shared the same childhood memories with this game
Just wanna say; Loved this video Silok, I'm not really into Mario Party that much but I still love hearing you talk about it.
Forgot that I used to play this game. Thanks for the nostalgia trip.
Now I kind of wish I hadn't sold my copy a long time ago.
Enjoyed the video, Silok. There's something very cozy about your channel, especially these videos looking back at Nintendo games from the 2000s and 2010s.
My god this brings me back to when I would go for roadtrips I'd be sitting in the back seat and 1v1 my brother beside me
This game was one of my favorites as a kid, thanks for the review! 😁😁😁
Mario party DS is a good game. It becomes worse when dice starts hating me.
I loved this game growing up. I use to stay up at my cousins every Friday and this was our go to game. For hours we would play this game, as well as the multi-player super mario 64
this was my first mario party and first ds game, the game always is gonna hold a special place in my heart
This was my first ever video game. I was 4 years old and I got a black DS lite with Mario Party DS. I played that game to death, it's still one of my favourites today.
I got this game with my 3DS, it’s my favourite game on there, I’ve played it so much that I have all of the badges, I’m really glad someone made a video like this.
I remember my cousins had this game and i played it once with them, it probably was my greatest gaming experience of my life, just messing around in the back of the car.
i played through this game to 100% complete it as a favor for my friend jerry in daycare. it did indeed take me a week! i didnt get to play it anymore after that, but it was one of the highlights of my time at almost home learning center.
