Can We Fix It? | 2007 Ducati 1100 Multistrada Not Starting RIP

  • As you will have seen in our first video, the Multistrada was working fine with no issues. Dillon's only concern was the cost of a Desmodromic valve service. Unfortunately, after a bike clean with a pressure washer, the Multistrada developed this starting issue where it turns on fine but when you hit the start switch, the bike 'gives up' and doesn't crank over.
    At first Dillon realized he could push the bike in first for a bit and then from there the bike would start. However this trick no longer works and the issue still persists.
    Let us know if you have any suggestions as to what it could be or even if you have had the same issue with your Multistrada and what you did to fix it.

    have same bike, sold 2 years ago, and bought it back. Not starting happened more than once, especially at the petrol station..
    Disconnected battery and then started again. now have 51000 kilos, still going strong. nice seeing 2 local guys working on old Multi. I have a panigale, would you like fixing it too, eishh, hope not.. hehe

      That's awesome to hear! Haven't ever seen another one on the road in SA. Nice to know there is at least one other out there haha.
      A Panigale! 😍 very jealous. Haven't yet had the privelage of riding one yet but you best believe we will make a video of it when we do 😁 when did you do your first desmo service on the multi for interests sake?

      Did belts and everything only at around 45 km ! Cant really remember. Its sort off my daily drive. Did the exhaust locally in Potch. There were 3 around here once, friend bought a beautiful 1000s with all the carbon and ohlins. My bike did Swaziland twice! Gravel and all !
      Panigale is great looking, but must say not comfortable. Have a 1190 ktm, feels like a couch in comparison!

      @@hendrikvangraan9269 That's awesome! I'd love to see that 1100S. That would be a real treat! Impressive stuff hearing that you've tackled Swazi 2x 😎 I can imagine the Pani isn't per say the most comfy but like you said absolutely beautiful looking. I dig your array of bikes 💪

    i noticed your immobilisator(locating inside instrument panel) light is blinking while trying starting bike. And you have some segments missing in a instrument panel also. Never use pressure washer into instrument cluster, the water gets into it easily destroying it. Sometimes just letting it dry completely helps some symphtoms. I have personally done extra grounds from batt to chassis and ECU to chassis just incase allready.

    Hi Guys, I had problem just like yours. The solution was made a connections from negative point of battery to the place near starter. I made connection from "-" battery to the engine block on the right side, very close to starter.
    Sorry, but english isn't my native language, but I hope that you understand what I want to tell you.
    If you have any questions about, feel free contact with me.
    If you have solved thia problem, give me an info.
    Regards, Jan

      Hi Jan,
      Thank you for your comment! Your English is very good so no issues there. Dillon (blonde guy) managed to take it into a shop and they saw that the battery wasn't delivering enough current even though it was holding enough voltage. The low current was not able to turn the starter. A new battery had sorted the problem out 👍
      Thank you,
      Jordan (burnette guy)

      Jordan,
      Great, so the problem is solved. there is reason to be satisfied.

    Did you get it fixed and if so what was the issue?

    Maybe starter motor brushes.When push the start button do you have current on starter motor? Check it with multimeter

    • @officialbuggutz
      @officialbuggutz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We need to check this. Dillon (blonde guy) left the proper multimeter at his house and the one we used to check the voltage was rated for very small currents so we still need to properly check this.

    Had a good chuckle… using a multimeter on a Multistrada ! Does it roll start ?

    • @officialbuggutz
      @officialbuggutz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      😂 a nice ring to that.
      It does roll start so the engine itself still seems completely fine... for that reason we suspect it's either an issue with the electricals or the starter motor... still not sure sadly. Things went south after Dillon pressure cleaned the bike. Perhaps water got into a wiring clip?

    • @npaidas
      @npaidas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@officialbuggutz id take every wiring connection apart q20 it and rejoin... worth a shot ! also just cause the battery has enough voltage doesn't necessarily mean its still good. Most of the time when iv seen this on bikes its cause the battery needed replacing. how old is the battery ? replace it with a Motobatt!

    ciao, mettila sotto diagnosi e leggi gli errori che ti da'. per la diagnosi uso scanm5x (telefono android), elm 327(wifi o bluthout) e cavo fiat da 16pin a 3 pin. potrebbe essere il rele' iniezione o il teleruttore avviamento. provaci anche un'altra batteria. mai ma con l'idropulitrice.

      There is more to the starting issues on these bikes than just a starter or battery . Keep clicking on the starter button , mine is the same but starts eventually .
      Keep the multi , they are a great bike . I have the new V4S multi as well as the DS1100 and love the 1100 .

      @@andrewberg2361 We managed to get it checked out and it turns out it was the battery after all. It could hold charge but it couldn't deliver the required amps to activate the stater motor. Bike starts like a dream now!👍😍
      Thanks for the advice on keeping it! Dillon will definitely hold onto it especially since the issue is resolved. 👌

    Battery probably had enough volts but not enough amps.

    • @officialbuggutz
      @officialbuggutz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes sir. That turned out to be the issue. Has had quite a few strange issues after that but the battery sorted out the starting issue at least haha.
