    excellent video. I find smaller youtubers always seem to have the best information for us regular folks (also that is not meant as an insult!). Thank you!

      Thanks man. Yeah definitely, the bigger guys are selling out to the manufacturers and it's hard to know if they are talking BS or not. Also random youtubers have saved me LOADS of hassle in the past with videos about how to work on bikes. It's why I wanted to make this video, in case other people were having similar issues :)

    That’s a great bike! Too bad the previous owner sucked at maintaining it. At last, it has found a proper owner! Ride safe and enjoy that beauty!

    Good work! I also have a 1098s, your videos are very useful!
    I would suggest you to try with a litium battery: the starting is far better because you have more “kick” from the battery (this engine has very big piatons 😅).
    Obviously you need a charge keeper, but I see that tou already have one.
    I had a lithium battery since about 3 years.

    Might it be the starter clutch sprag/gear failing?

    I own and love a V2 but a gold trellis frame and gold wheels are beautiful. Take good care of your bellissima. Cheers!

    hey just a curious question, why is it that most Ducati motorcycles users who start there motorcycles they do not pull in the clutch, but just press the ignition button, but other motorcycles you have to pull in the clutch?

    Sprag clutch?

    Having a similar issue with my 848, will have to try the rocking trick and check the cables. Question, do the quick release fasteners require you to drill out the fairings?

    • @BikeBuddy1050
      @BikeBuddy1050  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No you just have to remove the stock fairing clips and fit the new ones (pull out the old one and shove the new ones in). Super easy and well worth it.

    HOW MUCH BETTER, or more powerfull is the 1198 over the 1098 ??? which one is more prone to have more problems ??? im about to jump the gun on one of this 2, i see a lot of 1098 and not so many 1198. CHEERS GOOD BIKE

      1198 has a little more power and TC but it's probably the most scary TC I have ever experienced and it upsets the bike rather than help. So I just rode with it disabled. Chassis and electronics are nearly identical, with the same gremlins and potential issues (don't get it wet). Personally I'd have either they're both smashing bikes, just make sure you keep an eye on the bike's voltmeter. If it goes below 12v while running its got the old reg/rectifier which is fitted by the front downpipe and melts. If you see a regulator mounted to the side of the cylinder through the fairing slot, then its had the regulator fix mod and should be good.

      I’ve got a 1098 and had similar issue. Put new stator wires in and new battery starter leads, starts perfectly, even after being stood for 9 days.

    I hope you get the battery on a charger soon. She turned over really slow, I think you got lucky.

    I’ve also did a video about the voltage regulator, check it if you want (it’s in Italian, but I think you can use automatic translator).
    I didn’t finished the work yet, because I’m waiting to receive a fireproof sheath for the cables. 😉

      Yep, I always do that on all my bikes. One day someone is gonna trust their Neutral sensor too much and start the bike without pulling the clutch and their bike is gonna lurch forward and fall XD

    I would buy all new battery and spark plug cables and a lightweight lithium battery get rid of that lead acid junk

    • @BikeBuddy1050
      @BikeBuddy1050  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bike runs fine once it's started, so spark plugs/cables are working fine and yeah I keep on thinking about trying a lithium battery on my bikes but I hear too many horror stories about them catching fire. Also lithium battery lifetimes are shorter than conventional batteries. So yeah I just stick with the YUASA standard ones. Also the bike IS fixed, the issue was the battery, starter and solenoid contacts were corrroded (cleaned) also the starter cables weren't fitted properly and damaged. So I replaced the starter/solenoid loom with new ones from exact start. Starts perfectly now.

    • @USAracing
      @USAracing ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BikeBuddy1050 no horror stories at all. IDK who you are getting your info from. I have had Antigravity and EarthX batteries in all of my bikes for over a decade. no problems ever and rapid startup

    • @BikeBuddy1050
      @BikeBuddy1050  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mainly racers/track day guys, if I hear a horror story from them then I usually take it seriosuly. Same reason I will never own an Aprilia RSV4 (I've had 3 separate guys around the country tell me they had massive problems with that bike, engine con rods breaking, gearbox failure and finally an engine literally blowing up).

      @@BikeBuddy1050 You must buy a LiFePo4 battery (like italian BC Batteries). They are absolutely safe an the weight goes from 4,1Kg to 1,1Kg. Never buy a Li-Ion battery, that advertise to be even lighter!!! These are the horror stories makers. Li-Ion batteries can catch fire. LiFePo4 batteries give a higher output at start. Higher peak. Which you need to turn the huge motor. And they don't loose power. I took my LiFePo4 battery out in October and checked it in February and it was almost full. Put it on to the charger and it charged only for 2 hours. Brilliant!
      Ducatis strugle with battries under 12V. You were at 12.0V, but no reason for the engine to not turn at all.
      Another issues are the cables to the battery as you yourself have found out. Can't take so much current (Amps) because they are not thick enough and together with corrosion they stop working. You figured it out yourself.
      To be honest, I was suspecting the sidestand or neutral sensor, as you said rolling the bike would do the trick for you. :)
      And as you mention RSV4... One of the best bikes in the world and for the track twice as much. BUT, as you said. You must be lucky not to have any breakdown. Because if you do, the waiting times for spare parts are horrible.
      But my friend owns a Tuono 2019 and a Panigale V4S 2019. He has the Panigale for the racetrack and the Tuono for the streets. The Panigale had an electrical issue so he took the Tuono to the track. He made a new personal best by 1 second on the fully stock Tuono on Supercorsas SP. To give you an idea, how much easyer the Aprilias are. COnsider the Tuono made only 245 km/h on the strait and on the Panigale he does 290 km/h!
      PS. Beautiful 1198S. Maybe take some time on the beginning of the summer to wash the engine. :)
