I was at this game. First and only Monday Night Football game I have ever been to. Man, was I excited to be there. The crowd was electrifying and loud! A little group of guys that were sitting in the seats next to us and in front of us were so cool. The kid sitting to the left of me was giving me chest bumps and high 5's!! We were yelling to the top of our lungs! Lamar Thomas catching that awesome TD pass on the left corner of the end zone!!! Marino put that ball right in the bread basket! Man, that was a great night. I can't believe this was 23 years ago.
I love TH-cam because it lets people like me who are from a different generation actually watch some of these old players that we always hear about. One thing I noticed from this game is how much better the commentating is in 1998 than it is now.
Clicking on this I just wanted to watch the game, a way through it I saw the call letters for the broadcast station and it was my local station that this airing was recorded from. Pretty cool to see that.
I remember watching from the stands when at 1:03:30 Brock Marion NAILED Ed McCaffrey on that catch. McCaffrey quickly got up and just moved his head and neck from left to right and just jogged off like if the hit was no big deal. You can't really see McCaffrey's reaction to the hit in this video because it cuts off to the replay, but believe me, I was watching him, and he acted as if it wasn't a big hit. Dude, we heard that smack even though we were surrounded by screaming fans. He took a lick. Me and the people around me were like "Bro, go lay down on the bench or something, you know your head is ringing hard right now". I still remember that hit after all these years because I can't forget McCaffrey acting like if that hit didn't rock him.
What a good team Marino had in '98-a No.1 Defense for Least Points Allowed and his backs had OVER 2, 000 yds. rushing and receiving. Dan was missing his perennial All-Pro lineman Richmond Webb, but lucky for Marino I think Webb came back to play in the playoff game a couple of weeks later.
@@briancarter2847 not even close. Denver was the much better team with MVP Terrell Davis. Marino was not only missing Richmond Webb in the playoffs, they were also missing their best defensive players Jason Taylor and Tim Bowens
@@gregtrust5599 if Taylor and espesially Bowens was there, coulda been a closer gm,cuz Davis went off,but BOWENS clogged the run and was never given the proper treatment, cuz he was a BEAST and one of their best DT EVER!!But Denver had better recievers too and a better TE,So yea Idk who said that Miami had the better team,I mean on D we stacked up to them, except the playoffs, but again we were missing what would become PB talent there!!
I think Jimmy Johnson got mad every time Marino threw a touchdown pass. He wanted to run the ball all the time. He got spoiled by Emmitt Smith in Dallas. But Miami didn’t have an Emmitt Smith. As hard as Johnson tried, he couldn’t draft the star running back he so much wanted. He tied Marino’s arm up. But it was Marino’s arm that would get that 1st down or touchdown after Johnson made them run the ball on 1st and 2nd down and only gain 1 or 2 yards. Johnson DID build a pretty good defense in Miami, and if he had taken advantage of Marino’s arm and developed a pass oriented offense and hadn’t taken away Marino’s play calling privileges, I think they would have had more success.
I wonder what might have happened if they had pulled off that trade for Ricky Williams while Marino still had a little bit left in the tank. Now THAT might have been something.
Boy Boomer just could not hide his jealousy and disdain for Marino, every time there was a compliment for Marino he'd find a way to put a negative spin on it,like saying ANYONE could come in and pickup the offense, like yes it wasnt a rocket science of an offense, but Clearly not ANYONE could come in and run it or just participate in it!!Its too bad,cyz I actually liked Boomer in his playing days,I thought he was pretty good QB but Dan was my QB for my team man and clearly a notch up on the GOAT QB over BOOMER!!LOL
Wistfully dreaming back to the 1980s when Marino had a decent all around team, great receivers Mark Duper, Mark Clayton and fine receivers Dan Johnson, Jimmy Cefalo, Joe Rose, veteran wr Nat Moore, Bruce Hardy , great all around rb/receiver Tony Nathan , etcetera ... most exciting team ever . As they did to several or more super bowl bound winners, Miami comes back to defeat the Broncos here
Boomer Esiason the one year wonder and most over rated QB of all time has something to comment about it should be his own failures. He played on a stacked team but failed.
I know this dude had such a jealous streak for MARINO,he just couldn't say anything good about him, couldnt even agree with them when they would point to a good play marino made, but MARINO was on such a higher level then Boomer,it probably didnt even bother Dan!!
The Dolphins won the battle, then in mocking Denver on the sidelines afterwards, they lost the war. The Broncos didn’t forget; and when Miami showed up in Denver for the Divisional Round of the Playoffs they were annihilated 38-3. …And it didn’t seem that close.
You can't beat the refs and the other team. I see the ridiculous calls haven't changed. Surprised Miami was even this close to the game after all this BS. The mistakes also made by Miami....They could've beat Denver.
It’s because the Broncos weren’t really trying this game. Even as a Fins fan I knew the Broncos were the better team by a long shot. I firmly believe if the Broncos really tried like give 75% they beat the fins soundly. My dad happened to be at this game and he told me even though the fins won he knew something was off. So fast forward to the Divisional round he was not surprised when the fins got manhandled. Also look at Shannahans body language this game it looks like that he didn’t even care that they lost this game.
@@danielgrassi4343 Ridiculous. Talk to any NFL player and they'll talk about how important primetime games are with everyone watching regardless of records or circumstances. Weird how Marino and Elway rarely played against each other

Dan Marino 13 and John Elway 7 two Great Legends in the NFL
damn pal, ive been looking for this game for years!! It always got taken down just like the Broncos previous game vs Giants. Finally get the see this.
Shame due to the nutty schedule in those days the Dolphins and Broncos didn't duke it out more often.
Denver was awesome at this time

I was at game too. Upper west end zone. Marino only played elway 3 times he beat him 2 out of 3
Great Great game
Zach Thomas was so good
How come Marino dropped back the way he did? Was something wrong with his leg?
In 1993, Marino tore his achilles and missed the rest of the season. Although he came back and played 6 more seasons, he never regained full mobility.
