I'm listening/watching this game in 2022, and I am comforted by Madden and Summerall. It takes me back to a simpler time

This was the coming-out party for Peyton Manning and the Colts. I believe it was the first time since they'd moved to Indianapolis that they were the featured 4:00 game on any network, the first time Summerall and Madden had called one of their games, and against the most high-profile team in the sport. That they fell behind and came back to win was a sign of things to come for the next decade.

I’m pretty sure pat was on the call for their first game in 94 against the oilers but I don’t think he was working with madden at the time.

I view this game as a passing of the torch from the Triplets of Dallas to the Triplets of Indianapolis. The era of Dallas dominating the league was long gone by this point. Irvin was injured and would never play again, Troy was close to the end of his career, Emmitt was still effective but wasn’t the player he once was, and this season was the first of four straight in which the Cowboys didn’t have a winning record. Meanwhile, Peyton put it all together and had a breakout season, finishing second in MVP voting only behind Kurt Warner. Edgerrin James was rookie of the year and quickly became one of the best running backs in the NFL, and Marvin Harrison had the first of his 8 All-Pro seasons in 1999, leading the league in receiving yards. It’s hard to believe that the Colts of the 2000s only won one Super Bowl when you look at how much talent was on that team. If it weren’t for the Patriots and to some extent the Steelers, this Colts team would’ve had their own dynasty during that decade, winning three or more Super Bowls.

I can't vouch for this '99 Cowboys team being a legit Super Bowl contender. However, I do feel like this team would've almost surely won three or four more regular season games had Irvin not gone down. 11-5 or even 12-4 was well within reach, which would've set them up in much better playoff position. In fact, with a healthy Irvin, it's conceivable that Dallas would've entered this Indy game at 6-0. The Cowboys defense was tremendous most of the season, but without Irvin, the offense was just too inconsistent.

Only those that understand FOOTBALL agree with you. The ones that disagree with you understand FANTASY FOOTBALL. Aikman is one of the best athlete's in the 20th / 21st century. Manning was great, but Aikman is a 3 Time Super Bowl Champion that rebuilt a franchise that has failed to return to it's glory since his departure.

@@6370WIN You and the OP are absolutely delusional. With that line, that defense and Emmitt, ANYONE would've won those Super Bowls. Aikman is the most comically overrated quarterbacks in the history of the NFL. You two are idiotic clowns for not just saying that but defending and shaming anyone that says otherwise.
