    The Broncos were never concerned about going undefeated, they wanted to show that winning Super Bowl 32 was no fluke. I personally think this was Denver's best team going 17-2 after all was said & done!

      Terrell Davis was on another level in that 98 season

    I think the 98 broncos is arguably the best team of all time.

      @arsonhakobyan the Vikings wouldn't have been able to handle Denver's offensive line nor Terrell Davis. No matter how good the Vikings offense was in '98, you can't score if you don't have the ball. Denver was made to beat teams like the Vikings, and that showed in their regular season dominance and play-off dominance in both '97 and especially in '98. The Vikings might have scored 20-24 points had they made SB-XXXIII, but Denver would have put 35-39 on that Vikings defense.

      If theyd had a better defense id say theyre in the running but that Broncos defense wasnt "great" or even very good.

      @@manhalen7046 that defense took care of the 'fins handily and then basically won the AFC-CG against the Jets when the game was rolling away because the offense wasn't on par until Davis and the O-line got it going. Was it great, that's always an analytics test rather than an eyeball test. I will say this, the '98 defense was in no-way on par with the '15 defense. What the two teams did, although years apart, was beat Bill Belichick in AFC-CG's.

      @arsonhakobyan The Vikings were a classic big play team. They ran into a REAL football team in the Falcons, who were less talented but more hard nosed and serious. Well, Denver was BOTH....very talented, but deadly serious and hard-working, as well. The Vikings would have most likely lost in a 38-17 type game, where they would bust a big play here or there, but with nowhere near the consistency they would have needed to keep pace with a machine like the Broncos were that year. And once they got behind, that would have played to the strength of the Bronco defense, which was ideally suited to play complementary football with their offense.

      @@tgriffin3059very true. Over the years, we’ve seen time and again “big play” teams like the ‘98 Vikings get manhandled in the postseason. Broncos were far better at controlling the line of scrimmage, and controlling the clock. I do believe this team would have kept Minnesota’s offense off the field and out of sync, dominating time of possession and grinding out a convincing win. No way Elway loses his last game.

    The end of the Dolphins' FG drive is an interesting case study in how much things have changed over the last 25 years. 4th and 2 from the opponent's 5, early second quarter, down 14, defense clearly struggling after giving up two long drives. Today, I suspect that nearly all coaches would go for it in that situation, figuring that you have to try and keep pace. If you succeed, you have a good chance to get the margin to one score (i.e., you've either scored a TD or gotten 1st and goal inside the three), and if you fail, you've got the opponent pinned back. A FG leaves it a two-score game, which really isn't very helpful when the other team has been running over your defense. If you sent out the FG unit today, at the very least, you would get some serious pushback from the commentary booth. Yet, Jimmy sent the FG unit out back then and seemingly nobody batted an eye.

    Our very aggressive defense used to give up way too many big plays.

      In order to be great, you have to risk getting burned occasionally.

    • @johnwelch615
      @johnwelch615 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What this defense of the Broncos did well was prevent long, time eating scoring drives. They got burned with big plays on occasion. But they had John Elway, who was the best late 4th quarter operator in NFL history.

    Miami seemed to always be in playoff games like this in 90's.Coming off an exciting wild card win only to go on road to a rested opponent and get steamrolled

    The noise at Mile High...never once approached that level at the shit stadium they play in now

    • @johnwelch615
      @johnwelch615 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I loved the old Mile High stadium with the corrugated steel decks we stomped on, sending a deafening roar out the exits straight into the face of our opponents. Mile High, for a while, was the single greatest home field advantage stadium in the United States, and we fans made it so.

    The WR's during the JJ years were just abysmal. Offensive talent across the board was subpar unfortunately.

      i highly doubt it..go watch the americas game 1998 broncos...they were not going to let miami win this game (the bronco players were hungry for revenge following the MNF game)

      Yeah, and if the 1970's No-Name defense had been brought back to hold Terrell Davis under 150 yards rushing. And if Shula had been coaching. And if the Broncos hadn't come out of the locker room to start the game.

      Nope Miami with Marino never played well in Denver. Marino was great but that Broncos team had two great advantages. Home field and a running game. Miami never had a great running game while Marino was the QB.

    This was the game where Jimmy Johnson quit on my Dolphins for a day and then the snake in the grass which was Johnson bitched to stupid Wayne Huzengia that he will only come back if Dave Wannstupid succeeds him SMH. The Fins were all set to hire Marty Schotiheimer but Johnson wanted to stick it to Shula one more time because Shula wanted Schotiheimer!!! Also my dolphins had no shot in this game my dad knew they would lose and lose badly the score should’ve been 52-3. I’m 20 years old and myself along with the Dolphin fanbase WILL NEVER FORGIVE Johnson the snake in the grass for destroying this once proud franchise. SHULA >Johnson
    MARINO > Johnson

      Johnson's reputation was always a bit blown out of proportion. He won so big in Dallas because of that trade with Minnesota. When he came to Miami, he had no Vikings organization to outfit him with a bundle of premiere draft picks. He built a respectable defense, but the results were pretty much the same that Shula got in his later years...respectable, but no better than Wild Card or Division round playoff teams, never serious contenders for the championship.
