Game Journos is the easiest Journo Job. They are former (tumblr) Bloggers, they love to write but do not want to put into much work. So they come go into the Gaming maybe they are even casual Gamers, play enough so they have enough to write a "Review" and call it a full day of work.
If they even write them most of the articles are easily done by chat GPT... 10 best of this or that or ranked best to worst even the reviews are generic.

Being a game "journalist" is simply the worst job ever.
Reasons below:
- You have to play games quickly, most of the time don't really have time to finish them or to educate yourself properly.
- You can't pick and choose but review whatever you're being given.(at least until you're not high up)
- You are most likely paid miserably, if paid at all. I remember years ago attending games conventions when I still was a teenager and my grown up colleagues were assaulting the buffet like they haven't been eating for a week, which was quite possibly the case.
- You need to write bullshit to ensure articles are long enough and put a bunch of keywords just for the sake of getting as high as possible in SEO rankings. You can't just go with the flow which is what writers like to do: being free of constraints, damn it.
Who then in their sane mind would pursue this career? Just insane or mediocre people. Anyone with as much as a neuron in their brain would rather become a toilet cleaner in any Soho club.
I think anyone can review a game and all perspectives have value even someone new to a series but transparency is key. If nobody on a team of 10 people are good at fighting games and they need to review one the person who does review it should clear where they are at and coming from.
I think this goes beyond journalism though it may be in the same realm. These people aren’t putting any effort into their evaluation of these products. The same goes for that recent Sparking Zero criticism from that youtuber who clearly knows not what he speaks of. I’m not even sure what these people would be grifting to. There’s not much money in it.
It actually does matter that gamers *know* they're better than game journalists.

At any job, you're expected to be good at it, or capable or learning quickly how to be good at it. Game Journalism is no different.
I expect Joe over at the McDs to be able to memorize or right down my order correctly so it can be delivered to the cooks in the back, made, packed up, and delivered to the customer correctly and in a timely manner.
The same way i expect whoever is showing off Cuphead to be able to read the obvious text telling you to jump off a platform and daah at the height of your jump to get over an obstacle, and then do that in a reasonable about of time. Not literally bash their head against a wall for like 2 minutes in the tutorial.

When it comes to the reviews of a game I do want people who's a fan of the series and have experience with those types if games to review it.
However I also think that newcomer reviews should be a thing. But they should be labled it as such. And they shouldn't be giving a score but rather if they were able to enjoy it or not.
Street fighter 6 for instance. I never truly played any street fighter for more than an hour each. I knew nothing about frame data, mechanics, or anything. Ive on truly played tekken. But as a newcomer I love sf6 and its made me a huge sf fan now. So I could give a newcomers perspective and recommend it to others.

I disagree. The only thing that would be relevant within a series is the narrative. A good game is a good game, but a bad game might still get a good review from a fan, because that's what fans are, they'd enjoy a used pregnancy test if it was themed after the franchise they love.
I think you're touching on but glancing off a point that I would agree with,.which is that the reader should be able to form their opinion based on how they align with the reviewer's taste. I'm.not gonna go to yahtzee for a review on, say, rise to ruins. Nor would I really find Gmanlives' opinion on slay the princess revelatory. On that same note, I don't trust sphere hunter's opinions on capcom games since she is clearly a fan, so whether it's good or bad is not gonna come across, she'll like it all the same (and in general I find that she gives a lot of positive coverage which makes her unreliable imo)
It's on the reviewer to be transparent about their tastes and on the viewer to educate themselves on those. There will always be bias, but knowing it can help mitigate it.
Games journalists gotta be the only job where you can do a bad job, blame other people and insult the people you’re trying to inform and still keep your job. Shits wild

IMO, journalist sites like IGN should have dedicated reviewers for each game genre and, if possible, for each franchise. Each reviewer should be a fan or have experience with other similar games, this gives them room and some knowledge, and they won't talk out of their ass and will(most likely) won't compare one genre's (insert subject) to one of another genre. I still remember when a review compared something(I think it was graphics) from a fighting game to COD, while the fighting game had some of the best graphics for the genre...

Ofc we may be mad sometimes, but for complete different reasons of those she claims. We expect objective reviews that can help us know how the incoming games are. Yet what we get is missinformation from people who barely knows anything about what are they talking/writing about.
And she's more mad than anyone she points out to, about how easily journos are exposed. And therefore how content creators are making them irrelevant. But that's their fault. If you get games early and publish information first, as long as your point of view is trustful people will consume your content. It's that simple.

Either the game journalists are incredibility naive to this particular hobby or failed to understand what normal everyday people do (which I believe most people including me will always have mutual respect to) than people who loves to destroy other people's enjoyment/lives like Onision did to all of the girls I know I don't want to bring up the guy but these people want me to bring up how they're exactly like these people.

Actually, when he mentioned the original bragon ball that sparked an idea (see what i did there) for what DB game could they make later on. What do you think about a platformer original Dragon Ball game. Remember Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure on the gameboy that was AMAZING. It doesn't have to be a huge game since after King Piccolo, there is no room for platform levels. Everything else he said was total nonsense, but that got my attention.

0. Chronologically, it's the first, and there are certain developments in later games that don't hit the same if you didn't play 0. The only issue is that because 0 and Kiwami was made with the Yakuza 5 engine and Kiwami 2 in the Yakuza 6 engine, you're going to notice the drop in quality when you hit Yakuza 3, which might turn you off from playing further.

Those who are very much into video games and gaming culture know their a joke. One thing I think we as a community need to do is to stop flying off the handle when they say something dumb(not saying you did just speaking in general) measured responses with legitimate critisim is more of what we need and if you're so inclined do like Mike's doing make your own content that someone can point and say "this outlet is wrong, here's a resource I can point you too out lining why. Watch if you wanna hear the counter argument" I have start to use a phrase for all this nonsense. Progressive politics I like; I just don't like progressives and how they act simple as that.

It goes both ways. I personally welcome opinions differing my own but people do see that as confrontational if you aren't a big subscriber to many popular opinions (e.g. Nintendo can never do wrong).
The problem comes from people not wanting to have discourse anymore. People are more interested in getting their turn to talk than take in whatever someone's saying. To be real for a second nintendos terrible naming of the wiiu, inferior sales of games on nintendo wii and d3 publisher having problems was the issues besides it not looking anywhere near as good as storm.

The Wii U naming thing doesn't hold any water given Xbox's naming conventions. And I don't know what the issue was exactly with the advertising aside from the annoying commercial kids. Which isn't exactly a Wii U exclusive problem and is much more bearable that certain other game system ads.
@@espurrseyes42 I think that unlike the xbox the wii had so many peripherals that the market thought it was just a tablet add on to the wii and not a full on new system.
The xbox didnt become ridiculous till recently with its naming.
Add to the fact that it had a lack of support from first party ( any new games coming out were either too late or not strong enough) and 3rd party which alot were ports.
Some ppl dont even know that the wiiu existed and thats nintendos fault.

If you don’t know the franchise properly why review it? Its common sense, you wouldnt give a horror movie/show expert sex and the city to review. Makes no sense.

Have to disagree somewhat with your statement about Game journalist only getting critiques when your comment section in itself can be toxic AF that doesn't actually add to the complaints. I'm more than certain there are civil people that can actually make logical points to why they aren't good at their job but those are far and few between and have to filter through speds literally saying grotesque shit for the sake of disliking the individual.
I go through my comments section and I do not see people being "toxic" in droves. There may be a few people here and there but the overwhelming majority of people in my comments section are polite.

They only are able to say right wing because people keep saying woke and DEI when they see a black person or woman that’s were the criticism ends. Nothing about gameplay nothing about glitches, nothing about bad dlc practices and loot boxes. Woke means to be self aware and not gullible to cons or those out to get you. It doesn’t mean “look a black person in a video game or movie or show or comic or job.” DEI was only made and practiced to prevent nepotism so everyone has a fair chance who may otherwise be overlooked because they aren’t related to or look like the person hiring. The journalist are bad also because they are definitely far to the opposite side. So nothing will ever be fixed we need to go back to working towards solutions and stop all this tribalism and dishonesty. Also this is not an attack just a summary of what’s been happening.
There's been black people and women in games and shit for years. Black people and women aren't the problem. It's POORLY written black people and women. It's characters with nothing going for them other than their identities on top being written in a very preachy "you MUST like this character or you're a bigot" way. And this happens so much that people have a kneejerk reaction, expect the new black or female lead character to be no different from the last few ones.
And I think Mike might've said this himself: There's no barrier to entry to talk about this kind of stuff. You don't need to be a pro-gamer or history buff to know Yasuke isn't Japanese or an assassin and shouldn't be the representative for the Japanese Assassin's Creed game, and it takes very little time on Google to debunk the false claim of him being a samurai. You kinda need to have some knowledge about, say, fighting games to really critique the gameplay of one. One of these things is more noticeable and easier to talk about than the other, so of course it gets more criticism than the other.
