You think it’s just the executives? In fact, I would argue they align with our interests MORE than the people making games, the actual devs. Not that it means much. The executives, all they care about is making money. They don’t care how they do it, they just want to satisfy investors. Ok fair enough. I don’t like their practices and won’t buy them but the biggest issues in the gaming industry is the cultural aspect of it that are being pushed forward by the lower guys, the devs. They are the MAIN ones ruining the gaming industry because they don’t care about money. They care more about the cultural push into DEI which is losing them plenty of money. Them losing millions on their games is then indirectly impacting their console development. Executives need to first go back to the old mentality. Hire the best people for the job. Once that’s done, those same people will create efficient environment that won’t drive the cost of the whole company. I’ve seen too many people blaming the executives and ignoring the people at the bottom like as if the executives were gone, all of a sudden, their games would have been better.
Evidently they don't care about their own profit either because who the hell would waste money buying this garbage. That kind of money can get you a good PC that will last longer.
Creative and talented devs replaced by accountants and execs. Real gamers replaced by quick-insta-fame-fake-gurus. People who, back in the day, called us 'losers' cuz we were gamers or loved Anime. Now they use our tech to make sick money, share their vanity and destroy self-esteem of others. I made a deep dive video of X360 as the last great generation, hope I'm wrong.... Great video as always.
You forgot that creative talent got replaced with activists, the higher ups got replaced with paperpushers and people that have never touched a game in their whole life. What is really bad is no one is really innovating, it is always going after trends insted of seting them.
I remember playing ps2-3 for hrs, even before I got online. I beat mass effect 2 insanity raw on my (only MS console lol) 360... A major boost to self esteem to this day. Outside of nier, bloodborne, some adv mov shooters... I mean I got into my 1st fighter tekken, a childhood button mash lol. My only problem with my ps3 is that some games are not availible to pkg download nor can I found them in my country. Atleast aquiring new games is easy (would be If i wasnt poor) take as an example: Nier. I would have to pay more than 300 bucks for a copy. Demon souls? Found one for 500
Just buy physical then? It's worth it even though it's way more expensive. Even more so in the digital age. You can always sell your old phyaical games for a bit of cash. Might even get lucky and end up owning a collector's item. Not so much with digital stuff.
I don't want ray tracing. I don't want more fps. I don't want any deluxe edition. I don't want early access. I don't want battle pass or loot boxes. I don't want to pre-order. I don't want a sleek design. I JUST WANT TO PLAY A FUCKING GAME!!!

The gaming industry said going digital only would make games cheaper. It didn't. The gaming industry are saying they need to nicklel and dime gamers because it is more expensive to develop games for. It isn't. The gaming industry said gamers wanting the best graphics is why games are more expensive. It isn't. The gaming industry said they need to cut jobs because they need to cut redundant jobs because they are too costly. It isn't and they are posting record profits. It's sad. Every new generation feels like the "fun" of videogames takes more of a backseat as they turn games into chores. It's why my gaming history the last few years are filled with the occasional next-gen game surrounded by a flood of older titles.
Same. I almost exclusively play retro or indie titles these days. I've purchased 3 big games since 2015. Witcher 3, Baldurs Gate 3 and Ghost of Tsushima for PC. Witcher 3 was on a massive sale. BG3 is more of an indie game but with a big budget. So Ghost is really the only AAA game on the list I've payed full price for. I spend more money on original PS2 games than modern videogames each year. I could easily pirate and emulate them. But money is not the issue. I like to own them in my collection. Meanwhile I don't even bother pirate modern AAA games.
On the bright side, it means I can worry less about needing to make a new computer build to run newer titles as majority are boring/slop/crap. I do find myself mostly going back and playing older games I grew up with and some I missed out on, or were translated because they were never released over here on the NES and upwards. NES, SNES, N64, GEN/32X/CD, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, GB/C/A, DS/3DS, GameGear, PSP. I got so many games to choose from, even on original hardware for some since I still have a bunch of older systems and a CRT that still works. Using mostly S-Vid or higher when able, with only a couple on composite. I find all these older titles vastly just more enjoyable and fun nowadays compared to most new stuff by big companies. Mostly indie stuff has any interest to me for new things, and SOME-times something from a big company might get my attention like Wukong or Stellar Blade.
True. I have a high end gaming PC but it feels kinda wasteful most of the time as I spend most of my time playing indie and retro games. Or retro consoles. Its great for emulation though I guess. And the very rare and once in a while AAA game like Ghost of Tsushima. But the positive is that I don't have to worry about upgrades for a decade if the gaming industry continues like it has for the last decade:P
I only got like 50games in the last 14years since the 360 era all together.....thats sad. Mean while my library of games i love from the past is probably over 2,000

But would shareholders really want to invest in a product that nobody wants to buy? I mean the video game companies are eventually going to have to sell SOMETHING otherwise it's just a bubble that is waiting to pop, which will result in the shares plummeting in value. If people would just hold on to their money and just wait for a game that is genuinely worth 130 dollars, this would destroy their entire business model and either ruin them or force them to actually make a good game.
It isn't just the video game industry. It's society in general that lacks leadership and creativity. This is the culmination of generations of cuts made to the arts and civics.
Funny thing is that the only argument against it is that it cuts away potential sales, but if these companies aren't selling these old games anymore, there is literally no reason not to emulate

Its not just nostalgia either. When the ps2 and original xbox came out, people who were in their early to mid 20s at the time have a fondness for that era. Meanwhile you have teenagers and kids crapping on this modern gaming era. Trust me, its not just nostalgia. Theres a quantifiable decline in the quality of gaming these days.
Gaming used to be like sitting down to an entire 5 course meal with all the trimmings and trappings, cooked by chefs who loved the food and wanted everyone to share in what they loved and had created. Now games are fast food, cookie cutter meals that keep you full but there's really nothing nutritional in there, the food's dead on arrival, the chefs don't really care and in a lot of cases seem to openly hate the people they're cooking for and anyone not eating at this new shit-hole is a bigot.
I grew up on the SNES, N64, and PS2. It was the best time. After that, I went to PC. The Switch brought me back to console gaming in 2019, and the Steam Deck brought me back to PC last year (I sold my Switch to get one). I'm sticking with PC from now on. 😂

I've always hated that the game industry, out of any industry, gets away with this crap. When they should be putting their customers first. They would be nothing without their customers yet they treat us like crap & they treat us like idiots. Why does the game industry have to be like this now??

@Highlander77 the funny thing is you could be right but, I genuinely don't know what you're talking about. If you like slop, that's fine, I used to eat it up too when I was younger. I've been gaming on the pc for about 7 years now and have totally forgotten about any series that was console exclusive. I watched all of my favorite game series on the console turn to trash. It's what drove me to the pc in the first place.
You're right. 100% right. I miss the PS3/Xbox 360/Wii era of gaming. But I know that it's already too late. The only sliver of hope for gaming would be to tank AAA gaming as a whole or as a concept and give money to indie developers.
Its even more embarrassing for Sony when you realize you could use that 700$ to buy a Steam Deck OLED with 1TB of SSD storage and still have 50$ left over lol.
This is why I enjoy being a Indie game enjoyer. There are still Devs out there with a passion for the craft of video gaming and there are plenty of indie games out there that are so much fun

PlayStation had the opportunity to convince PlayStation 4 & PS4 Pro players to move on to the PlayStation 5 Pro, but instead the total opposite happened now PlayStation is basically saying keep playing on your Playstation 4s & PS4 Pros while we charged $700 for PS5 PRO, plus a additional cost of $80 for a disk drive plus an additional $30 for a vertical stand basically scalping our own customers of giving us $810. No....F*** u Sony, console gaming used to be the cheapest route to have access to gaming but instead you basically did a Apple move and Gone full PC. Yes all of us here did expect it to remain $500 or $575 for the PlayStation 5 Pro but instead PlayStation or arrogant Sony got greedy didn't learn anything from the PS3 era.
Not to mention the pro costing significantly more in Canada and the uk... god knows how much it'll cost in kangaroo land... I hope this shit sells like concord, I hope this pro console becomes the next ET game disaster, I hope making this shit costs sony so much money that it forces them to rely on their dev studios to go back to passion driven games instead of super safe open world/liscened marvel games. Also for even more laughs I hope they never make back their investment they made on bungie
They also had the opportunity to get us ps4 hangovers to upgrade to ps5 by dropping the price of base model. In 2016 when they released the ps4 pro they dropped the price of ps4 slim to $300 with uncharted 4 bundled in, and put ps4 pro at the ps4 launch price. That’s when I upgraded from ps3 to ps4. However now it’s been 4 years and the base ps5 is still $500 with only a handful of games that aren’t cross gen while the price of living has skyrocketed and the generational leaps are diminishing returns for long term gamers who have seen things like the jump to 3d or jump to hd.
This is exactly me lmao I game on my ps4 pro and waited to head over to the ps5 pro, or at the least a much cheaper base ps5. This only makes me want to invest in a gaming pc and say to hell with consoles. You're absolutely on the money about Pokemon Scarlet/Violet. I got the game as a gift and I still wanted my money back. The frame rate and glitches were just unacceptable, especially considering the previous game, Sword/Shield played beautifully. Some slowdown, yes, but nowhere near as bad as its sequels. The fact that Game Freak and the Pokemon Company did nothing to address the frame rate and glitch issues also raised my ire. It's gonna be a while before I buy anything new from them again.
They did try and fix it... But the game was still too un-optimized... Oh my god yesss Pokemon Scarlet/Violet. Ugh. I'm praying Z-A has better quality, I don't know why Gamefreak won't put in the effort. Surely they can afford it with how impossibly well Pokemon games sell.
Real issue here: Sony's fanbase. They're too comfortable, predominantly thanks to the schtick of game exclusivity. Sony delivers you cookie cutter, safe, movie games. Along with borrowing the Ubisoft formula; releasing the same spiderman game three times with minimal innovation between instalments. But the fans LAP that shit up. Henceforth, Sony thinks they have the Apple touch: The ability, and audacity to make egregious pricing decisions with ultimately inconsequential backlash, due to the loyalty of the userbase. In conjunction with a borderline monopoly on the industry. They ain't there, but they clearly want to be. I'm just glad we aren't letting it slide.
While Sony is indeed getting arrogant, I'm sick of people calling the games "movies." Where is the "movie" in Returnal? Why not just skip the cutscenes in games if you don't like them? If you feel you aren't being challenged enough, why not change the difficulty level?

If you feel you aren't being challenged enough, why not change the difficulty level? To my understanding, the only game that is intentionally a "movie" is Until Dawn, and possibly Detroit as well. If the game doesn't play like Heavy Rain, then it's not a "movie." I had a hard time passing certain endgame challenges in Uncharted 4, Horizon 1 (2 only took me a couple tries to beat the last boss), God of War 2018 and 2022. I don't consider those moments "movies."
There's another massive advantage to getting a PC, we'll always have indie games. I know a good amount of them get ported to consoles, but if you want to play the majority of these games that were made with GENUINE PASSION, you'll find them on PC or a Steam Deck. Also all the PlayStation and Xbox games are coming to PC anyway, so I have literally 0 reason to buy either.
Downside is that it's hard to own anything on a PC. It has pretty much entirely lost physical media. Every disk just links straight to steam where you own nothing. If i own the disk on an Xbox I can play it without the internet. I own it. Good luck installing a PC disk while offline.
Alan Wake 2 failing is 100% the fault of the fans and not the studio. That game slapped and I won’t hear a bad thing said about it. You’re spot on with the rest of it, but Remedy is genuinely one of the only devs actually putting in the effort to make GAMES that feel fresh and unique.

My favorite game to come out of the PS3 era was definitely the LittleBigPlanet series. I didn't give it a shot at first but when I did, I absolutely fell in love with it. I stuck mostly with the main entries with my only spin off being the PSP title. I would've gotten the Vita edition, if I had a PS Vita. That comment about them not having many IPs when they just unceremoniously killed off one of their best truly pisses me off to no end. Whatever flops and hardships come their way, deserved.
Exactly. While Sony continuously want to push their Last of Us/God of War style games, the smaller franchises that actually made them the company they are today, are languishing in chains.

Halo & Mass Effect. I started playing games with Halo. As we got two xbox consoles for the rec room on base. I remember being offered cigs for my spot on games night.
The idea that games cost more than ever and take longer is absolute hogwash. The devs are just trying to keep their job as long as possible, since companies are firing dev studios for even succeeding. I've seen indie games do more for gaming than most AAA games.
@sean7221 Cool, but how long did it take him to make? I'd say about 2 years (and he's still not finished). Looking at the game, it could've taken him less time because of the common genre it uses (survival shooter, which has solid foundations to build from). But many good indie games take years, not months. The only time they take less than years, is if they're 2D pixel art games. Those can typically take between weeks and months
For decades, consumers had to pay extra just because it's SONY. From audio transistor radios, reel to reel audio, Trinatron TVs, Walkmans, Discmans, and Playstations Sony always charged as much as the market could bear. The console debacle is just the latest. This generation doesn't have a killer game and introducing a Pro mid gen is only good until the Playstation 6 in early 2027 or 2028. It comes down to the game developers to code the games for fidelity and not make them ugly. Likely, what would happen is the Playstation 5 quailty will be worse to make the Pro look better.
I guess you forgot when Sega was in the market and tried to push the Saturn out for 199.99 day of announcement, then the Sony representative walked up and said "99.99"
I managed to get an old PS3 recently that was about to be thrown out. Opened it up, cleaned it out and stuck a skin on it. Then I stuck a 500GB SSD and completely modded it with Custom Firmware. I have access to every digital game released on the system from all regions. I’m pretty much set for years to come. Absolutely no need for a PS5 or XSX at this point. I would definitely recommend doing the same.
@@GenkiStarLeaf I have a Super Slim model I bought in 2012, and it still works fine. I played GTA IV back in the day on the 360 in 2008 when it came out, never finished the story. I have a physical copy of the game on the PS3 and I plan to play it this weekend.
@@KratostheThird You can install HEN on the Super Slim if I’m not mistaken. Still a great option to go for, if you’re thinking of modding it. Get an SSD for it too to get the best performance out of it.
Yeah game companies want the grial of absolute control on the players libraries, no mods, "no playing older games or previous release" just hold people hostage to whatever they want to put on their o line subscriptions, and when they get a new game, the ability to remove old games so you are forced to play the new one, or the new, pointless "remake" of a game that might even be still in the same system, and getting a remake just for money. Or "justify" a pro device
I mean, I know this is oldish but didn't rockstar try to delist the older GTA games when they released that collection, that turned to be not great and lazy, like the upscaled graphics where done poorly to a point a donut place that had a donut statue ended up with an octagon or something, and text removed or replaced by nonsense due to the ai text scanning used failed to read it?. And people were somewhat annoyed. Yet that meant, if you didn't own the games before, now your only option was the collection. Despite the fact prior to release they were readily available online to purchas. Imagine a world where the next FIFA game comes out, and all precious versions are forcibly shut down, or delisted/removed, perhaps with some free "fake currency" bonus to previous owners for whatever micro transactions the game might have. Certainly would make it "easier" on the companies, when they don't even have to compete with their older versions, and thus make the minimum effort to "update" since they know you have no other option.
There was a game called "I Am Alive" that was pretty rad. You normally only had like 3 bullets, and you had to hold enemies at gunpoint, and if you took to long to act they'd say something like "you probably don't even have any bullets!" And they'd put their hands down and try you. It's something I'd like to see in more gritty apocalypse games
Another issue: Consoles these days are, essentially, budget computers with a smattering of exclusive titles. Aside from the ability to more easily plug them into your TV, they are inferior to a PC in almost every conceivable way. They're obsolete. The ONLY reason to buy one is if That One Game You Really Want is never coming to Steam, ever. And if you're blowing $500-$700, plus controller(s), plus the price of the game, plus paying for internet access a second time, all just to play That One Game? Even 3-4 That One Games? Buddy, you got serious impulse control issues that you might want to seek help for.
My sister bought an Xbox Series S a while back, and I warned her about the major cons of owning a console instead of a good laptop. So fast forward to today, and she wants to sell her Xbox and get a laptop.
These days? Consoles have always been budget computers. Console gaming was introduced to make gaming more accessible to the average person. Exclusives were to incentivize people into buying consoles. Obsolete? No. Again, Consoles are cheaper than PCs and are convenient and easy to use. Not everyone is a CE or CS major. You don't expect Little Jimmy down the street or John the construction worker to know how to navigate a Linux operating system or pathing on windows to get the most out of PC gaming, or heck even start. Doubly goes for pirating and emulation.
@@jase276 I was "little Jimmy down the street", I bought a Windows '98 PC with the cash from my part-time job and was playing StarCraft and Diablo within hours of getting it home from Best Buy. Consoles USED to be more convenient, but that is no longer the case. Go buy a brand-new PS5 and time how long it takes to hook it up, get it online, install all the updates, make/sign into your PSN account, get your game(s) installed and updated, and start actually playing anything. We're talking HOURS. It's no longer simple or convenient like it was back in the 8/16/32-bit eras.
Damn, does Three House's OST hits on background hits hard and feels nostalgic even though I played only almost half a year ago for the first time. I need to finish writing review I promised to my friends...
I have all three of them, Nintendo SWITCH, PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X and let me tell you, you are a Legend and I agree with you. Liked and subscribed.
I've got the Switch Lite, and it's pretty good. Granted it's the Lite version, but I've had it for about 3 years now and it's going along nicely. I'm content enough with my purchase. I'm gonna save up for the second Switch, though. The last thing I want is for me to buy a proper Nintendo SWITCH just for the new generation to be announced a week later lol
Went to my friends birthday party in September. He pulled out the N64 and we played the original Super Smash Bros, and Gauntlet Legends. It had been about 11 years since i had even held an N64 controller. It was like magic. No hub menus chalk full of ads, apps, and social media jargon. No. Just a console, a game, two controllers... You put the game in and you play. That feeling of knowing you're not online, not being data mined... It felt surreal after years and years of online gaming. That just doesn't exist anymore and it's really sad...
Nintendo still has that feeling. You get a physical game, pop the cart in the switch and play. No installation, no day one patch. Well, for 1st party titles anyway. Some other publishers will save on cart size and sell you half of the game, or even just an empty box and won't let you play without internet connection.
Lol PS2 and Xbox gen was the pinnacle. Those consoles were still cheap enough to develop for that we had the massive libraries of the precious gen while getting a technical leap we haven't seen before or since. The PS3 killed a lot of smaller studios in Japan that made innovative stuff, while the 360 was the first to charge for multiplayer. A lot of Unreal 360 games ran like crap while the PS3 had lame ports and very few exclusives compared to the PS2.

It’s almost like the executives don’t have our best interests at heart

I tried streaming it the morning it came out and had to stop because the game is such an awful pile of unviewable crap.
They did try and fix it... But the game was still too un-optimized... Z-A is there last shot with me, if it comes out late 2025, I'll pick it up, early with another in the same year, never picking up another Pokemon game again. This is the best case scenario, if they delay the game to 2026, then I'll preorder it because these guys learned there lesson!!
And yes I would pay 70 dollars to play Red, Blue, Yellow, Silver, Gold and Emerald on my Switch, and I would like to have Virtual Console come back too!!
This is what happens when you fail to train your coders. I cannot remember the mans name, but he was pretty much THE GUY that optimized the previous games. He died and took that knowledge with him.
