Gamers Nexus what about the EVGA gtx 1080 ti ftw3 hybrid? I bought that one after watching your review. It’s still in box and I can return it. Is that one the best AIO on thermals? You still reckoned it? Thanks! Price was $849.

I personally picked the MSI Gaming X GTX1080Ti for my personal rig over the Strix GTX1080Ti, but it is a hard choice, both of them are very good as you mentioned.
+Scooby Dooby I want to upgrade my 1070 to a 1080Ti in the very near future, and I like the Asus Strix the best, but I'm skeptical because of the reportedly horrible customer service. I've always bought EVGA cards in the past and they've treated me really well.

insanely well done. New viewer here and simply utterly impressed with the quality of every single of your videos. You do deserve way more Attention ! Satic, well worth going back through the earlier GN videos, especially the Ask GN series. Thanks to awesome channels like this, I haven't bothered with ordinary TV in almost 2 years. 8)
and 3 years later, I bought one of the MSI cards second hand (Gaming X). It's lovely and very quiet. Thank you for all your tests on it, I went back and watched all the videos and I'm glad this one came across my path!
Picked the ROG Strix OC model myself, though I was also intent on matching my ROG Strix Z370 color scheme and maintaining a single controller software across the whole build (Asus Aura/RGB)
After checking many reviews of many models, I bought the Strix last week and I couldn't be happier. Really quiet in any task, temps below 70C all the time (usually in the 65-67 range) and I got a pretty nice 2050 Mhz OC out of it. I also feel it has the best looking design this gen and it came with 2 games. No coilwhine either excluding the loading times of Wolfenstein 2 that run at 1000fps. So no complains whatsoever thus far.
I had a Super JetStream 1080 before and it was excellent. Great temps, performance and also Dual BIOS! Palit/Gainward is super underrated but they make some of the best cards around.
Angry Rambo Show you sound really butt hurt, or should I say ~angry 😏, that Palit doesn't ship to NA. I also love how you base you judgement on the card on how it looks and not how it performs. IMO strix is the best, but if you only care about performance and you can't/don't want to spend the extra premium, the Palit is a great option, obviously only if you live in a country where they ship, ore else the price argument doesn't make sense
as long as the cooler is allright my Aorus paid off 2050mhz on the core and i saved 80€ against any other aftermarket 1080ti at the time honestly the card i had before was a 1080 strix not much of a difference tbh except for this being a 1080ti i do agree its abit bulky as they mention though
I'm surprised you didn't even mention the FTW3 hybrid. It has all the best features and I managed to get one of the top single card benchmarks with it with the temps maxing out at 60c.
I picked up the MSI 1080 ti Armor and slapped a EKWB on it , and your right it is a decent card with a block on it , sitting at 2032mhz at about 45c while gaming :)
only 2032mhz? the temp is impressive sure but my gtx 1080 ti FE runs at 2000mhz core and 5900mhz mem with my custom magical fan profile, max temp during heavy gaming is 73c and i can't hear diddle with this dope logitech headset
The card is not pushed to the max , it will go higher , but I settled on the above setting , which was found straight after buying it , iv had it a good 6 months now and could easily get more from it .
Just bought the MSI Duke variant on Ebay for $480 USD after shipping and tax and its on average beating the $500 USD 2070 Super by about 9%. Totally worth it
My Asus strix 1080ti has more Coil whine than my old Fury x. I need to reduce the power draw to 85% to shut it up, very disappointed with it. I later bought a EVGA FTW3, and it doesn't whine even with 110% power draw. I have owned 4 EVGA never had one with coil whine. Cant say the same for MSI/ASUS/Gigabyte
Trust me it's not just asus I bought 3 Aorus 1080tis and returned them before finally going with the asus. The only time I get coil whine is when I run a direct x 10 title for some reason
all of my GPUs have had coil while in certain situations (example when loading gta4 and getting 9,500 FPS) but once the game loads the coil while is gone
Asus has indeed done a great job this gen. Ive owned a 1060, 1080 and now a 1080ti This Gen. All ROG strix models. I am counting on EVGA so retake their Throne during Next gen, so lets see how it goes!
I currently own the MSI GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X, and I'll tell you this: I've tried nearly all the different brands of GTX 1080 Ti's. The MSI Gaming X was able to overclock the best over any of the of the other cards I tried. I was able to add +600mhz to the memory clock and it's completely stable. I'm not sure if I just lucked out and got an awesome batch, but I'd recommend the MSI GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X over the other brands ANY DAY! Not to mention the cooler is *extremely* quiet and effective. My temps never go above 53c
I'm looking for a 1080ti card to by and eventually watercool it. So thank you very much for spending time and giving such advises! Now I know which card to peak. So grateful to you, thanks!
My local computer shop had a ZOTAC connection and had a 1080 ti mini in stock for 12% over MSRP I heard some negative stuff but I was building a smaller form factor so I pulled the trigger. WOW was I surprised even under stress temps never above 80c usually in the 70s and I did a extremely moderate oc through Firestorm and I'm at 1999 mhz imo it's a phenomenal little card...
I hated my Strix, it was noisy and getting hot. Returned it after two days and got Gaming X. It is much better, cooler and much quieter running the same frequency.
I've had my 1080 Ti strix since nearly original release date, I think I bought it a couple weeks in, I kept it after getting my 3080, it was such a good card and still so useful I couldn't justify dumping it.. its now in my workstation build doing video encoding workloads with premiere pro
Just to let you know the Asus ROG Strix 1080TI in just two months time has gone from $800 to $1600 because of Miners and shortages across the GPU line. Crazy...two months and it's DOUBLED in price.
I'm saving up for one atm. Probably the Strix. Do you think they're still worth it at the price they're currently at? Or should I wait for new gpus,? whenever that is.
I find it odd how AIO liquid-cooled cards like the Hybrids and Sea Hawks really don't get mentioned at all here. I'm looking to buy a FTW3 Hybrid for my next build unless the 2080 TIs are out by then.
and no mention of the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080ti 11GB Aorus waterforce Xtreme edition card or have you not received one yet or reviewed it either..!!!
After watching JayzTwoCents' vid on the Aorus cards where he just snapped the cheap piece of crap shroud Gigabyte put on their "premium" line with little force I wouldn't trust Gigabyte with anything not motherboard related. they're the opposite of Asus in which I wouldn't want an Asus board but their cards are great.
Gigabyte aren't great with motherboards either, their VRMs on B350 line are one of the worst. My local PC store clerk said he got so many RMA'd Ryzen board from Gigabyte now every time another customer buys one he recommends MSI or Asus to avoid the hassle.
AssassinKlD I have actually heard some bad things in the past about Gigabyte but wasn't aware of the issues currently had, I mostly have issues with Asus on motherboards from TTL of OC3D when he was critical of their Ryzen ROG board, can't remember which one though will have to look it up in my spare time and put it back here, I've only personally used MSI and Gigabyte with my SOC Force z97 board replacing an MSI Krait board, needless to say I am going over to team red when I upgrade, especially since intel 10nm performing worse than their 14nm designs, I'm just looking forward to the 7nm Ryzen for Zen 2 that should be coming either late 2018 or early to mid 2019 which makes the deal between Intel and AMD all that more interesting in my opinion but I'll put my tin foil hat down for now.
A clock for clock, core for core comparison between Ryzen and Coffee Lake would be interesting. Not so much from a consumer advice perspective, as nobody in their right mind is going to run their Coffee Lake chips underclocked. It would just be interesting to see exactly how far ahead intel is in different applications and games, at the same fequency and core count.
I bought the ROG strix 1080ti without knowledge because it was on sale and at the time the cheapest of the partner cards.. glad I made the right decision.
Just ordered the Strix 1080 ti, upgrading from EVGA 1080 sc. My main reason to upgrade is to play high or ultra at my Alienware AW3418DW monitor around 100+ fps. I was going to get the EVGA 1080ti FTW but I got the ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero MoBo. So I decided to get the Strix and look like its the top on @gamersnexus so I am happy.
I dont really understand why you think having a big cooler is such a horrible thing. I have the zotac amp extreme. My temps arent anywhere close to yours and it looks great and thats basically why i got it. Why you dislike this trend that really doesnt affect the consumer (from my experience) i cant fathom. Is it that you want them to NOT do that and just have subjectively better design?
Amazing video. It's clear how much you care about educating the consumer base. This video has educated my decision greatly; going for the EVGA SC2 or ASUS ROG Strix.
I'll be honnest, it's a great video. But the differences we see are both from silicium, cooler and pcb (you mentionned it) We can't take the gpu appart from the pcb to test the latter. However, you can measure the temperature of a 300W electric heater cooled down by every coolers. You can also measure it's noise (i think it's tomshardware who did a great chart of dB=f(ΔT) for 120 and 140mm fans) Nobody did that (as far as i know) whereas it's the most important difference between 2 cards equiped with the same gpu and it's the only way to test the cooler alone without being influenced by the silicium's quality
I hope you guys get a hold of the MSI 1080 Ti Gaming X Trio so you can test it and compare it with the others. You had good things to say about the regular Twin Frozr MSI Gaming X so I can only assume the Trio would be better.
I used EVGA step up program and got the 1080 ti Black SC edition. Only paid $150 more for it. I originally got the 1080 FTW2 for $550 so I guess overall I spent $700 for the Black edition ti. I really just want to use the card for 1440p Ultra settings with my 144hz monitor. I hope I made the right choice. For thermals I made a case modification on my Phanteks p400, better front panel air flow.
Is a stock MSI 1080 ti Armor still a card one should avoid buying even with the current card supply? I was able to get a 1080 ti Armor and a msi 1080 (no ti) Gaming X. I planned on returning the 1080 or selling it to my brother for cost. But after watching the review on the Armor card I'm no so sure.
nope, I tried them for my forward intake fans, but apparently the card won't even turn the fans on until it hits 60c or so, and there are no options to configure it :/
Seems like a case like my v1 Fractal Arc Midi with the 180 vent on the side is the scenario where it makes sense for an aux fan to kick in. Probably want a typical always on fan setup otherwise. I suppose if you had a bottom intake and a top exhaust wired to it might be helpful. I'm runnin a crossfire config currently so in my case the cards are crankin more heat than the CPU by far.
I picked the Gigabyte 1080ti cuz it was on sale and immediately used an NZXT Kraken G12 and Corsair H50i cooler and now enjoy temps in the mid to low 40's with near silent cooling. Can't complain at all.
Hi, may I ask, now when 2080 and 2080Ti are released, which model of 1080Ti is best to go for? apart from those mentioned in the video, there's EVGA K|ngp|n version, so depending on actual prices (of used models, within warranty though), the battles remains between ASUS Strix and EVGA FTW3?
Should I get the MSi 1070 Ti Gaming X or DUKE card for my build? My case doesn't have the best air flow and only 3 fans. Upgrading from a 1 fan EVGA GTX 570.
wheres this video for all the 20 series? please include hybrids as im really tempted to get a hybrid for my SFF builds, and if you can do it close to the release of the cards would be awesome.
I had msi 1080ti gaming x, evga and i ended up with msi lightning . For me that one is best , couse temp is max 62c. With 3 8pin power connecter . Job well done!
Asus Strix 1080 Ti is the best card to use...especially for a mini itx build (depending on the case). I got this bad boy to fit in an Inwin 301C...Works perfect with a combination of bottom intake fans. Easily OCs to 2100 Mhz at 61c!!!!

Not to mention the cooler is *extremely* quiet and effective. My temps never go above 53c
That's actually impossible. No 1080ti can stay under 60 Celsius under load, even on water.

I'm looking for a 1080ti card to by and eventually watercool it. So thank you very much for spending time and giving such advises! Now I know which card to peak. So grateful to you, thanks!
Where's the EVGA 1080ti HYBRID FTW3? Feel like it smokes these case heat dumping type cards.
and you get annoying pump whine even when the card doesn't do anything. no thank you.
You must have a bad card....I have this sitting in another rig...quiet as a church mouse....
mine is silent too superb card love it
I have the SCII Hybrid and it's the best card I've owned. LOVE IT.
givemeajackson what pump?
My local computer shop had a ZOTAC connection and had a 1080 ti mini in stock for 12% over MSRP I heard some negative stuff but I was building a smaller form factor so I pulled the trigger. WOW was I surprised even under stress temps never above 80c usually in the 70s and I did a extremely moderate oc through Firestorm and I'm at 1999 mhz imo it's a phenomenal little card...
I got the ASUS 1080 Ti Turbo on sale. Stays at 81-82℃ on load, but I got it to put an X41 with Kraken G10, now it has never gone above 49℃ :P
Alexander Rex Evensen how much was the total cost then? Was it worth voiding the warranty?
I hated my Strix, it was noisy and getting hot. Returned it after two days and got Gaming X. It is much better, cooler and much quieter running the same frequency.
No FTW3 Hybrid??? Such a beast card.
Gamers Nexus needs to next invest in a good HEPA filter. Looks like it's snowing in the b roll but it's just warehouse dust/kitty dandruff.
I found a 1080 ti strix for 570 local and bought it because of your review on it. I love the card and its great for 1440p 144hz
i'm not helping you rambo
What about the PURE THERMAL CAPABILITIES of the different GPU cooling systems??? Come on!
Ever heard of marl no more these days?
Msrp
So happy I switched my 980 Ti SLI for the Strix 1080 Ti. My room is much cooler and quieter.
That was a very well cool video, thank you!
The Kingpin with a water block is usually the best.
and no mention of the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080ti 11GB Aorus waterforce Xtreme edition card or have you not received one yet or reviewed it either..!!!
Lars loves Tech they are bad. Not good VRM 3 quadrupled phases and cheap fragile cooling solution.
Kvlt Ov Freki Don't know your experience, but ASUS motherboards are best on the market imo.
Another thorough and informative review. Excellent.
@3:08 Lol, finding a brand new Asus Strix GTX 1080 Ti for only $800 would be a miracle now.
Hey Steve, have you ever considered testing different CPUs using same frequency, voltage, multiplier(and others) settings?
We have, yes. I think we've done it once or twice for specific content pieces, but it is something we may be doing more of in the future.
For science!
I bought the ROG strix 1080ti without knowledge because it was on sale and at the time the cheapest of the partner cards.. glad I made the right decision.
Darren Riber I bought a prebuilt pc with a 1080 ti and they didn’t specify which 1080 ti it would be and when I got it it was a strix ti 😬
Can't wait for Vega AIB cards review XFX Double Edition and Powercolor Devil, most interesting for me is thermals and noise level of these cards
Great video thanks a lot. How about 1080 TI K|NGP|N?
Amazing video. It's clear how much you care about educating the consumer base. This video has educated my decision greatly; going for the EVGA SC2 or ASUS ROG Strix.
Thanks for the direct links. So-- since 2017 the SC2 black has about doubled in price?
Hey Steve, what about the Lightning Z and the Trio from MSI?
The gaming x trio might just be the best card not only in looks imo
I just waiting for one of this videos amazing Gamers Nexus
Did you include or test the Palit 1080ti super jetstream?
I'll be honnest, it's a great video.
But the differences we see are both from silicium, cooler and pcb (you mentionned it)
We can't take the gpu appart from the pcb to test the latter.
However, you can measure the temperature of a 300W electric heater cooled down by every coolers. You can also measure it's noise (i think it's tomshardware who did a great chart of dB=f(ΔT) for 120 and 140mm fans)
Nobody did that (as far as i know) whereas it's the most important difference between 2 cards equiped with the same gpu and it's the only way to test the cooler alone without being influenced by the silicium's quality
I hope you guys get a hold of the MSI 1080 Ti Gaming X Trio so you can test it and compare it with the others. You had good things to say about the regular Twin Frozr MSI Gaming X so I can only assume the Trio would be better.
Don't lie Steve. You know you loved holding that fat, juicy Zotac card in your hands. All the metal and girth.
I got a Zotac amp 1080ti. I like it over the 1060 I had lol
Inferno_Spud the thermals on the amp edition are abysmal
I used EVGA step up program and got the 1080 ti Black SC edition. Only paid $150 more for it. I originally got the 1080 FTW2 for $550 so I guess overall I spent $700 for the Black edition ti. I really just want to use the card for 1440p Ultra settings with my 144hz monitor. I hope I made the right choice. For thermals I made a case modification on my Phanteks p400, better front panel air flow.
What about the MSI gaming X trio 1080ti with its triple frozr cooler.
Great video, but I am still buying an EVGA 1080ti Hybrid.
Lowest thermals in most cases, and quieter.
Thanks very much Nexus i have a strix 980ti and the strix 1080ti is next, fantastic, steve from OZ.
Thanks Steve!!! We love you :-)
very comprehensive. thank you.
Got my STRIX 1080Ti for about $745 plus 2 $60 games 😎
Do you use the on board case fan headers? Nice idea but I've never seen any follow up on practicality.
nope, I tried them for my forward intake fans, but apparently the card won't even turn the fans on until it hits 60c or so, and there are no options to configure it :/
Seems like a case like my v1 Fractal Arc Midi with the 180 vent on the side is the scenario where it makes sense for an aux fan to kick in. Probably want a typical always on fan setup otherwise. I suppose if you had a bottom intake and a top exhaust wired to it might be helpful. I'm runnin a crossfire config currently so in my case the cards are crankin more heat than the CPU by far.
even tho its 2021 what woul you recommend more? a evga ftw3 or the strix gtx 1080 ti, becouse i plan on buying one of the above
I picked the Gigabyte 1080ti cuz it was on sale and immediately used an NZXT Kraken G12 and Corsair H50i cooler and now enjoy temps in the mid to low 40's with near silent cooling. Can't complain at all.
Msi Gtx 1080Ti Gaming X Trio?
None of them can beat the Zotac amp extreme 1080ti
I'm pretty happy with my MSI Gaming X. I love the TwinFrozr Cooler since my GTX770.
Hi, may I ask, now when 2080 and 2080Ti are released,
which model of 1080Ti is best to go for? apart from those mentioned in the video, there's EVGA K|ngp|n version, so depending on actual prices (of used models, within warranty though), the battles remains between ASUS Strix and EVGA FTW3?
I would like to know Ur opinion in the MSI gaming X trio, since it's not included in Ur roundup, many thanks in advance :)
No love for water-cooled cards ? Wanted to see how my Zotac ArcticStorm stood up against these
The best 1080 ti models are AMP Extreme Edition and HOF L.E
Nope
@@mariuszmaxankazuya3170 HOF is apparently the 2nd best after K|NGP|N but the AMP is garbage as 1080Ti go
Hey steve, how about the 1070 expedition? is a very budget option... is this good?
Should I get the MSi 1070 Ti Gaming X or DUKE card for my build? My case doesn't have the best air flow and only 3 fans. Upgrading from a 1 fan EVGA GTX 570.
wheres this video for all the 20 series? please include hybrids as im really tempted to get a hybrid for my SFF builds, and if you can do it close to the release of the cards would be awesome.
This was awesome and very informative! thanks
