Dude I’ve saved over $1000 from the dealership thanks to you, did the airfilter, coolant change, oil change and brake flush. Can’t forgot the chain adjustment and lube. This next job needs to be done for me at around 25k and might be the most technical. Out of everything this is where I might draw the line ;). Honestly thank you for making these videos. The editing, the narration and everything has been impeccable. I’ll be braaping around on my 2017 cbr500r this season thanks to you. You saved my wallet. Take care and all the best brother. Ride safe. -G
Man, that's what this is all about. I could never afford to pay someone else to fix things for me so I learned to do everything from writeups and videos online. I love that I can pay it forward now and help others the same way I was helped through the years. I'm so glad you have enjoyed the videos and learning about your bike. The more technical videos are already in the works, so stay tuned, you might decide you can do a valve adjustment! Thank you for watching, and be safe out there. David
sometime i want to have the mechanic do it but i remembered something always missing or not putting back together right so i have to do myself and save my money. thank you for posting
Just followed this video and another one for my year bike as mine is a 2014. Looked intimidating on the video. But the annoying part was taking off the fairings, everything else very simple. Saved $300 that was quoted by my local shop. Thank you.
I agree, the fairings are definitely the hardest part but I hope the video makes it as clear as possible. $300 savings is worth a little effort for sure! Thanks for watching.
Incredible video. Super helpful. I'm approaching 30k miles on my '16 500F, and haven't done spark plugs yet. It's definitely time, so this is on my short term to do list now. Thanks again for spending the time and energy to do this vid.
Give me old school bikes. I had cb 500 4 & doing work was easy but doing work on cbr500 is like wtf . Thanks for the video you make . This is my daughter’s bike I don’t know what she do when I’m gone . Hopefully a good job & can pay someone cheer’s
This video is a lifesaver! Just changed the plugs in my 2015 cbr500 and everything was pretty similar to your model. Saved a lot of money not taking it into a shop. Thank you heaps!
Thank you! I put this off for a long time because it didn't sound like much fun, but none of this is hard with the right tools. Follow the video and you shouldn't have any trouble, but feel free to ask if you have any questions.
Thank you for the detailed video. I have just did the valve adjustment and spark plug change at 30k km, it was a real PITA. The fairings, and the plastic tray under the tank... nightmare. My Kawasakis are a dream to work on compared to this bike
@@EndlessMoneyPits exhaust 0.30mm all four valve. Inlet 0.15, 0.15, 0.18, 0.20 So only 1 inlet valve out of spec by 0.01mm I did not pull the cams out, it's fine. 30k kms / 18.5k miles
@@EndlessMoneyPits i would personally advise you not to check it. These bikes are not prone to adjustments, its just genuinely not worth the effort, maybe with the next spark plugs change you can check.
Great Video! what I found as must have upgrade on 2013-2018 CBR500R is the light to LED. If you are interested in upgrading yours, I would love to see it on the channel.
Thank you for the suggestion! 2013-2015 bikes do not have the LED but 2016+ bikes do, like mine. A lot of people do upgrade to LED on the older bikes but I wouldn't be able to demonstrate that with my bike unfortunately.
This was an amazing video -- love it. My 2013 CBR500R had some slight differences in terms of screws and pins, even to the extra callout that you made. That said, they were simple differences that were easy to figure out, and this video was instrumental to being successful! NAPA tried to pawn off their CHA977 as able to fit, but they use plug and not the smaller screw connector. So just a heads up to actually get the NGK 2306
Thank you for the kind comment. I'm really glad to hear the video was helpful even with the differences I missed on your bike. It can seem overwhelming to do a job like this especially if you haven't removed fairings before, and I'm hoping my videos will help more people feel comfortable doing their own maintenance. I'm always open to suggestions on video topics and how to improve. Thank again and be safe out there!
Hey, I just bought a used CB500F. Do you have a good resource to acquire a shop manual or maintenance manual for it? I'll definitely be relying on your videos for what you've done so far (I haven't watched all of the CB500-series videos so I can't say whether they contain it all), but in case there is stuff you haven't covered, I'd like to be better prepared. There's really not a ton on the interwebs, and so much just says, take it to a mechanic.
Both are due at 16k miles. You're right, I need to go back in for the valves but I don't have shims on hand and wasn't ready to park the bike while waiting for parts. I will probably make that video in the near future.
Right! I gotta stop replying to these when I'm sleepy. Yeah I did the coolant on my friend's cb500x and it only had a small panel to remove to access the radiator cap. Made me jealous. Your shop is nuts. Haha
I put it off for a long time but it really wasn't bad. I still need to go back in and check the valves, which will be slightly more involved but doable.

Thanks for this, It made for very easy watching..well put together , so i fear doing things with my bike because my knowledge isnt great.

If you want something done right you've gotta do it yourself. Sometimes...
Fantastic video!! Gave me the courage to do something I would not have ordinarily given a go. All went smoothly! Thank you!
Honestly, I wasn't looking forward to doing it either but it's just a lot of small, easy steps. I'm glad the video helped you.

I have not replaced any spark plug in 10 years lol and my mc and ATV working perfectly lol!
Thanks man.
Side note: I did manage to get those two plugs behind the left fairing without removing it 😊
Impressive. I didn't think it was possible.
Thanks !
Great job sharing with us what we need to do to maintain our bike !
Thanks again !

after watching this video i have decided to leave the old ones in place until they cause problems...the plugs u removed looked fine to me
I don't see the harm in that. They will start misfiring when they're done.

I found my service manual used on eBay for about $40 a few years ago. New ones are pretty spendy.
You should be needing to do a valve adjustment check long before you need new plugs, and this video gets you close to being able to do that job.

These spark plugs good for a 2015 cbr 500r ??
2013-2016 as far as I know. Probably newer models too.

Great video mate but what an absolute joke to change a spark plug..
Thank you. I couldn't agree more.

Yeah, it's not the quickest job but not too difficult either. You might want to do a coolant flush or even check the valves at the same time.

What happened to the brains at Honda that they have to do all this shit just to change spark plugs???
