- A great example of a budget build, Kyle’s Holden wagon was initially pieced together for just three grand using a naturally aspirated Ford Barra BA engine and ebay turbocharger. A set of new slick tyres is about the most expensive part of the build.

I love these kind of builds, it’s something even I would be able price out.
Don’t get me wrong, spending on all the goodies and fancy bits is nice and all, but this is realistic for a regular car guy. Props to these guys, and thanks for covering it
i'm a holden nut and i approve of this weapon, serious this thing is my dream daily driver, it's got a "farmtruck" vibe going for it and i love that!......
Y not just buy a ford saving all the conversion time and money like I did. I bought a BA gas car under 1 k. No hassles.
But nevertheless, great hot rodding skills to you , being well mechanical minded.
I reckon if he shaved the mullet he would be in the 10's for sure.

should be stalling it up in second at the line then dropping it back to 1st as you launch, will get on boost at the line
Ace setup, just needs a bit more boost off the line for a mid 11 hopefully.

Somewhat true but that Ebay turbo is old tech. Fine for a basically stock motor but newer products make more power with less boost...

My family friend from california runs a shop calls cars usa and is imoprting barras as we speak.
Use your damn EcoBoost motor....leave the Barra for us.
u Americans know these barra engines are sand casted? most Barras are amazing BUT not all! some have imperfections from the casting process and FORD knew this and blueprinted/handpicked motors for FPV models. Fun Fact for the day

Full props to the guy for his cool build but you're comparing apples and oranges. Lightweight unregistered car that runs on petrol versus full weight street registered FG taxi (4170lbs in racing trim) that runs on LPG.
Engine built to run on pure LPG normal put out more power.

Nah, the coilovers are cheap for those things as they fit other cars too from memory, heaps of second hand ones around.
you might need to use a high pass filter to filter out some low frequency wind noise below about 35hz
It was seriously strong wind there, but yes that particular mic only has the small foam on it, needs proper dead cat too.
You can do this in post processing, I think that is what ChillCosmos was saying.

It may be only in a straight line but considering conservatively ($250k for the Ferrari) it's $28,000 per second for the Ferrari and $321 for the VH, someones certainly getting more for their money. Thr Ferrai would be faster round the track too, but would you really? And your brakes and tyres alone would need replacing fot at least $3,800. So who cares what's in it these days. It's still all homegrown, including this owners ingenuity. Well done fella and thanks Fullboost

Went 11.5 on the weekend. Got about 20 passes in, on 17psi still going strong.
I LOVE a budget build with an NA motor and ebay turbo but lets not pretend things like fuel pump, turbo oil lines, injectors, tune, intercooler, tigged alloy intercooler piping, full 3.5" exhaust, B&M shifter, racepack dash, slcks, stall converters, built tailshaft inst easily $5000+

I know the owner/driver and they were just out testing trying to set a good time on stock tires. Just because they sit at the line a little longer doesn't mean they're laughing at the other car or something like that? It's literally a test and tune day where you go out and race whoever ends up next to you, looking at this car at the strip without seeing it run, you wouldn't be able to tell if it's a 14 sec car or an 8sec car

No boost controller, it's just running waste gate pressure, which happened to work out at 12psi.
No screamer pipe either, it just vents straight out of the waste gate towards the sump! It's gold.

its also a NA wrecker motor from a BA, so its one of the first barras built and not built for boost. it will pop eventually.
$150 engine, series 1 engine 9.7:1 compression. Seems to be holding up well. He didn't stop racing and giving it heaps. They weren't worried about popping it at all.

I smell a rat, adjustable strut top mounts.....yeah there is more dollars in this car than he is letting on.

There would be a fair amount of labour in making new engine mounts, getting bends made up and welded, and whatever else he had to do to get the box/drive shaft to fit. Would be surprised if that all fell in his lap. Could be his trade but yeah seems sketchy.
Let's not forget though, a lot of people don't include the price of things "they had lying around"
Junkers if you can weld and have basic fabrication skills, there is minimal cost to do those things.
Steel itself is cheap, and a lot can be modified or butchered from wrecker parts.
As for the dash, there are generic digital dash units that look like this for just over $300 on eBay. Apart from those tyres, tuning would be the biggest expense unless you know someone with the skills and a dyno. Cheers!
This really does go to show that you can build a car for 10k and under and beat a 700k supercar
ao_s15 not really, new Supercars are running low 10’s at close to 140 when they hook up. not sure you could get that with 10k
