Great that you like asam laksa n I can see you’re not faking it 😅 or exaggerating it. Very few westerners like it. I had a German friend who tried it and she said it’s like the rotten fish gut.😮 anyway I thank you for featuring asam laksa. It is very underrated on TH-cam. Because of this you have won me as a subscriber 😊❤
Assam laksa is my favorite version of the dish. The sour tamarind paste, prawn paste contrasts with sweet pineapple and mint to flavor what’s probably Malaysia’s most unique street food - glad you liked it! Great review
That mochi reminds me of the Japanese warabimochi. The big difference is dipping the mochi in ground peanuts vs ground toasted soy beans. Ever try mochi donuts Joe? Quite the rage now.
I have a roti canai video already :) You can check it out on the First impressions of KL video. Southern Indian Banana leaf is coming up in a future video don't worry

@@hungrytoexplore I know! My family and I were very sad when we read this too. Also, if you're in the same area looking for food, there's a great hawker market opposite the road. They have delicious char kway teow.
Here is the confusion with words, hence, my preference to call it curry mee(noodles), instead of laksa but they are also selling Asam Laksa in Madras Lane. There are three stalls in Madras Lane selling curry mee. The third one from the arch is the best and the first is the worst. Taste is subjective. It is internationally rated.
I think all that time you spent in Thailand has served you well cos you’re very knowledgable about the food ingredients. Asam laksa needs the shrimp paste just like pie and mash needs lashings of liquor.
I as a local Chinese understand what you mean. It’s indeed more foreign vendors and tourists there. But it remains as a Chinatown. If you are looking for towns with Chinese vibes then you have to go to Ipoh or Penang up north of KL. I also can’t recall when was the last time I was in this Chinatown 😅
@@vantida definitely. If you are looking for more historical and cultural vibes then go to Melaka or/and Penang, just depends on what are you looking for beaches will be lamgkawi or islands in the east coast ( redang/Perhentian), cooler mountain vibes can go to Genting highland, Cameron Highlands. Hi Joe, glad you've finally found something savory to eat. 😁, I was worry about you going to starve for a minute there, lol. You did your research well, yes longan fruits. We locals called it mata kucing. Meaning cat's eye

Congrats you just ate the bucket list of world cuisine the asam laksa. Yes tamarind.
So so good!

Hello im new here, can you try the laksa sarawak
welcome to the channel! I will look out for it, thank you
It doesn't look very much like Chinatown, it's just an alley, right? However the area looks nice, so does the food.
It is slightly bigger than what I showed, but I think you are blessed with the one near you, that is for sure

It is not a cheat. The Spire is part of the original design. It is accepted by the council on tall buildings and urban habitat.
I don't doubt that, I don't just mean this building, I mean every tall building. They just put a spire on to make it taller :)
Spires are lightning arrester. Malaysia has many lightning strikes.

It's sardine not mackerel & cucumber as opposed to courgette cheers...

Can’t really tell from the video. If the fish is white it is mackerel. Local sardine is dark in colour

The sourness comes from slices of dry Tamarind, and the fermented shrimp sauce is not necessary to enhance the taste of the bowl of noodles though. 😅
Yeah - I knew nothing about them so was trying to work it out as I tasted. I got to tamarind in the end :) they were delicious
