    Dear Sara,I missed all the delicious Malaysian food since I can't go back for holidays to Malaysia ever since the coronavirus pandemic started last year.Your video make me mouth watering and hungry especially the KL Petaling Hokkien Mee and the raw fish porridge at Hon Kee.Btw the name is very correct and this porridge stall is also highly recommended at Tripadvisor too!Just to informed you and all of your subscribers too!Anyway I wished to return soon to Malaysia after my vaccine jab!Thanks alot for the food blog and you are a great food ambassador for Malaysia too!

      Hello! Yes it’s so unfortunate that so many Malaysians can’t come home. I miss my family and friends who I’m suppose to see this year for many celebrations. I was looking for Hon Kee but accidentally ended at Yooi Kee. Tho I didn’t regret eating there. Fish was fresh, and people were so friendly! When I go next I’ll double check and maybe make another video. Thanks for taking the time to drop encouraging comments. Hope you get to come home soon. See you around!

    Can't believe the current situation in Chinatown! I went there back in Jan 2020. It was so crowded I couldn't even find empty stalls or stalls without big big lines to sit and eat! And now it looks like a normal neighborhood market! Oh wow 😳 Thanks a lot for showing so many foods and stalls in KL Chinatown!

Really appreciate that you covered a lot in a 24 minutes video & more importantly, you take care to not only tell us the name of the shops but also show us the storefronts AND often show us where there are situated in relation to each other or other places. Many of us aren’t locals and this is a big help.

    Hi Sara, I’m Joe Tang from Singapore. I missed all the Chinatown food because of this COVID-19 restriction otherwise I used to take a flight to KL almost most of my weekend off day. Purposely used to stay at Ancasa Hotel on most of my trip to KL so that it’s within walking distance from this hotel to Chinatown. Otherwise I used to stay at Hotel around Jln Bukit Bintang. Hope to catch up all your recommeded foods in KL soon. Cheers 🥂

      @@sara_khong Hi Sara, my apology. I just saw your message. Your video on KL Petaling Street food were quite detailed. I used to have my breakfast at Petaling street most of the time before moving off for my shopping at Bukit Bintang areas. For breakfast there is a store in one of the lane that sell wanton noodle and I always order an extra plate of roasted pork. One of my favorite is the fried black noodle at supper time. Wondered where’s the location of four point Sheraton? Another stall which I used to patronize is the pork rib shop or Bak Kut teh along Ipoh road. (Can’t remember the name) but within walking distance from the Hotel Royal.
      Hope everything will return to normal so that I can travel to KL again to meet up with my friends.

    I still remember the 1st time I arrived in KL, coming off the recently-opened North-South Highway, in the evening, from Singapore in August, 1993, the city was SO DARK, There was no Petronas Towers, no Suria KlCC. no Mandarin Oriental, no Bukit Bintang, no massive shopping malls, and only a couple of newly built, modest office towers in the Golden Triangle; we stayed at the Imperial Hotel and for a little relaxation went across the street to the Hard Rock Cafe. where the band was terrible. During the four days in KL, we did go to some great restaurants and had some terrific food and I fell in love with the city. However, it was all so new to me, that 28 years later I can't remember where we eat. I am sure some of these establishments are still extant.

      Looks like you need to pay Kuala Lumpur another visit once the pandemic is over. I still remember KL being very dark, and even misty in the morning when I was a child. KL has developed so quickly. It's so different now - we have a lot of new hipster cafes, many local artisanal brands, new Malaysian-style fine dining restaurants. But I'm glad what you've missed - eg. great food is still very much here.

    Your latest email has forced me to do a forensic examination of my memory. My first visit to KL, I stayed at the old Concorde Hotel and not the Imperial Hotel (that was subsequent visits); the Hard Rock Cafe, with that terrible band, was located in the Concorde's lobby. The Concorde was demolished about ten years ago. Also located in City Centre and now demolished, as well, was Hotel Istana; in the basement there was a great Chinese restaurant. I ate there every visit to KL, unfortunately I don't remember its name and there is no trace of the establishment online. As soon as the Mandarin Oriental opened up in 1997 I abandoned the dowdy rooms of the Imperial and began staying here. BTW, if you want to recommend to your viewers some great books on Malaysia, I would recommend "Red Star Over Malaya" by Cheah Boon Kheng and "A History Of Malaysia" by Barbara Watson Andaya. All are available at Kunakunya at KLCC Suria.

    • @sara_khong
      @sara_khong  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You seem to have truly fallen in love with Malaysia! I have not heard of these books. But shall check them out the next time I’m at Kinokuniya. You reminded me that I was planning to get Sapiens: A Graphic History. Have not heard of the Chinese restaurant. Also I remember Michael Jackson stayed at Concorde when he came to KL. All these info are a loooooong time ago

      @@sara_khong Nope. Is the day you visited the food stall/hawker date so that at least we know if the price is the current. As we all know, all food cost has gone up sky rocket high price and those goodies and delicious choices as show on your video clips is so tempting and nice BUT it is also a good info to know if it is affordable or cost reasonable. Hope that clarify. Thanks

Just a recommendation, you should also explore IPOH town street food and there is one very popular egg tart shop you/your mom might be interested to try out. But of course IPOH is very popular when comes to street food stalls too. Just a recommendation only. Cheers.
