  • Amano shrimp are one of the most popular varieties of freshwater shrimp kept today. but what are they like to keep, what tank do they need and how do you keep them happy in the aquarium setting!
    Welcome to brand new channel all about the little creatures we keep as pets.
    My favourite fishy stuff! (yes these are affiliate links :) )
    Lights
    Nicrew Classic LED - amzn.to/3fG3Uv6 - Traditional led light that's got a nice high output in a white/cool colour range. Makes plants look extra green.
    Nicrew SKY - amzn.to/3Ktn45U - really nice light for natural looking tanks, also the one I use for filming.
    Filters
    Pat Mini - amzn.to/3fE1u0k - popular for a reason, just a superb little filter thats great for shrimp tanks and fish alike.
    ASAP - amzn.to/3nBuytp - the old favourite and the one i return to most frequently.
    Air Pump
    AP-3 Kit : amzn.to/34UMA3q - Great little air pump, not a silent runner, but has been very reliable for me.
    Tanks
    Scaper 45 - amzn.to/3KBxG2H - a lovely high quality tank that comes with a super strong light, and a decent enough hang on back filter - perfect for newbies and scapers alike.
    My filming stuff
    Camera - Cannon 200D - amzn.to/354OLlc - nice camera, easy to use.
    BigTripod - Manfrotto befree - amzn.to/3GLXDdj - pricey but super sturdy and can take being knocked over a lot by clumsy operators.
    Lil' tripod - amzn.to/355WmQs - can't pronounce the name but it's been a good tripod for filming things on tables or when I have tanks on the floor.

    I really like Amano shrimps and I breed them in an effort to get the knowledge out there to aquarists. Great shots, you must make a video on your filming equipment and techniques! Subbed~

    This is one of the best videos on Amanos I have seen! Well done. I have 4 females in a 10 gallon with my betta. There is not a speck of algae left, so I feed them. They learned very quickly that while I’m hand feeding my betta, they will get handouts if they are nearby. Now, they come scratching at the surface with their little feeder hands when I lift the lid. They will take Crab Cuisine pellets from tongs, and bloodworms and mysis shrimp from a toothpick. I had to buy them their own floating Betta log after they kicked Martok out of his. They are thugs. Although they are very large, almost 3 inches, they still molt once a month. Pretty soon they are going to crawl out of the tank and eat us in our sleep. I just love them, though, they are so busy and fun to watch. I find their natural color patterns are pretty, with their reflective orange strip down their spines. I have an expanding colony of Bloody Mary as well, and the larger females are sassy and don’t back down from the Amanos. Poor Martok puts up with a lot of shrimpie shenanigans

      Hey Vcaser! Wow, three inches, those are some seriously big amano you have! Mine are all still under two inches, I'm hoping my biggest female might make three. They're lovely though as you say, they are always busy and very greedy and no matter which tank I put mine in (they hop between my four tanks) they always rule the roost :D

      @@tinymenagerie I bought them as “XL” because I was not sure how my betta would do with them (he is fine) So they were already mature when I got them last October. I lost one last week to what I assume to be old age, I cried! So getting them so large means less time to enjoy them. I won’t do that again ☹️

    I keep an amano with cherry shrimps. The result is that he dominates the colony, just like the king.

    I really don't have them for just eating algae, I just love the diversity they bring to my 20 gallon tank. I have so many live plants they just love hiding, I only have 3 now but I'm going to add 4 more. I will feed them shrimp wafers every couple days. I also have 7 glow tiger barbs and a Black Betta named Darth Betta! They have been coexisting for a little over a year so it's time for new shrimp! Yay!!!!

    I put 3 Amano in my tank, now I have at least 10. They bred! I know this goes against everything I’ve seen and read. Thoughts?

    What would you recommend percentage water changes for amano and running a no filter tank?

    • @tinymenagerie
      @tinymenagerie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey sorry for the late reply. To be honest I cant say I'm very precise with water changes and certainly don't follow any kind of routine. Established tanks I tend to just take about 10-20% of the water and swap it for tap water roughly once a week, fry tanks once a day. Amano are not fussy at all though, its usually fish you are catering for. I have seen some delightful no filter tanks and they are certainly worth trying. I personally run my filters for about 4-6 hours per day, not non stop, and defo not over night otherwise they would keep me up. That keeps my water clear as I find no-filter tanks have a habit of going stubbornly cloudy - but that could just be the type of bacteria I have in my water.

      Yes they certainly can, amano are perfectly safe with neocaridina.

    別の素晴らしいビデオ
    Betsu no subarashī bideo
    (clue: japanese, as in Takashi Amano).
    I keep Amanos in with my longfin danios. There are eight of each and by a happy accident, six of the amano are female. I got the amanos in Aug 2019, the first molts took place within 2-3 weeks and from soon afterwards I've constantly had berried females ever since.
    Once I got over the initial disappointment of learning I wasn't going to get baby shrimp
    (I set up a new tank and a few weeks later went out and got some Red Cherry Shrimp; population 💥), I realised the danios had themselves a constant supply of fresh live food.
    Edit: just remembered I have some video (nowhere near as good quality as yours) of a berried female being 'looked after' by the danios.

    Is there any aggression against fish i should know? Ive seen a few examples and im wondering how i should avoid it?

    • @tinymenagerie
      @tinymenagerie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey Mike. Amano will hog food if they can but generally they have no real way to attack a fish, and even very small fish are easily strong enough to escape them. They will eat dead and dying fish but other that that, they are harmless.

    Can they live with little fishes? What else can share a tank with them?

    • @tinymenagerie
      @tinymenagerie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Paul! Yes amano can live with small peaceful fish. Guppies, mollies, little barbs such as tigers, bettas anything that sort of size. Larger fish will see them as a meal but the smaller ones are fine.

      We keep 4 amanos in a planted 20 gallon tank with 15 assorted tetras and an albino cory catfish we adopted. We are about to add 2-3 additional amanos and perhaps a bristlenose pleco or something similar. We’ve had tons of plant growth in the first 7 months of the tank’s life.
