      Scotty Kilmer Ive been looking at getting one of these frantz oil bypass filter systems ( reputed to extend oil and engine life etc..) do you think they are worth the money???

    • @Ray-hg3ie
      @Ray-hg3ie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Or you could get an oil analysis and really know when to change your oil. Take your regular oil and run it 20,000 miles and do an oil analysis and then show it on your website. Then take some good synthetic oil and run it 20,000 miles. Get the oil analysis and post it on your website. If you do this and the FACTS prove your "OPINIONS" to be correct ........then and ONLY then do you have a case against synthetic oils. I'm tired of listening to your opinions that are not based on anything. Get the facts and maybe intelligent people might listen to you. And always remember, opinions are like assholes, everybody has one !

    • @Jaymoe69
      @Jaymoe69 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with the oil analysis, I take a sample every three months or so... Send it to Blackstone labs along with changing the filter and the filter in my frantz bypass system while running full synthetic castrol magnetech.. I only need to change out once or twice a year..

    Thank you for this video.... I went to change my oil and was being pushed to switch to synthetic oil. But I have a 2003 jeep liberty with almost 200,000 miles. Ive been using the same conventional oil and only had problems when my valve cover gasket needed replacing. Now with that fixed I'm not burning through oil like I use too. Like my grandpa said "if its not broke, dont fix it" I purchased my jeep in 2012 and have done all of my own oil changes myself. Normally, that's something to agree with. If you're using the "bypass" oil filter which is much more dense, maybe not (depending on what equipment and oil you're using.)

    • @danhammond9066
      @danhammond9066 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The reason for changing your oil at least once a year is because condensation inside the engine creates water which mixes with unburnt hydro carbons to create acids which eat up your bearings. So if you never drive 20,000 miles in a year then a 20,000 mile oil is not your best value. If you do drive that much in a year then this oil could be worth it one change a year vs maybe 4 or 5 with conventional oil. If you leave the oil in your engine over 1 year then the acid buildup will cause erosion of soft metal parts in the engine such as bearings.

    Old cars with flat lifters and high pressure valve springs need an oil with adequate levels of ZDDP. All oil at one time had ZDDP in it, but it was found that it destroyed catalytic converters, so car manufacturers were forced to change from flat lifters to roller lifters to eliminate the need for ZDDP. Modern oils DO NOT have enough ZDDP in them for old cars and I have personally seen many camshafts worn down to round lobes in 2500 miles as a result. If you have an old car, be sure to find out if you need that kind of oil and if so, Valvoline VR-1 is a suitable oil.

    Ive been working at Valvoline for the past year or so, and have been talking to customers about which oil to use. If you drive a basic old honda civic, theres no need to use synthetic oil. Those engines mostly run a long time anyway. You would be wasting money with full synthetic. But if you drive a brand new civic, its gonna want you to use synthetic blend, or full synthetic. In that case, use either or. The car was made for that type of oil and the engine performs best when using 0w20. In my 1999 7.4l truck, i use full syn. Trucks are made to work. And i want to make sure its getting the best protection while working.

    I bought Supertech oil 5w20 high mileage convential by mistake. With a Fram Ultra Synthetic filter. When I got done changing oil. I didn't panic. Just changed to 5W20 high mileage full synthetic after 3,000 miles. The oil still looked great. When I started the motor up. The motor sounded like it really liked the Supertech synthetic. It sounded like a new engine running. I have 165,000 miles on it. Didn't see much differents in gas mileage. Shawn

    • @indridcold8433
      @indridcold8433 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@666dynomax It is a vintage vehicle requiring thinner oil in winter and thicker oil in the hotter months. Tolerances were not as tight as today. The vehicle will have blow-by in summer if 10w30 is used in the hotter months. In winter 15w40 will make it difficult to start in our very harsh winters. This practice was once very common. The engine in my vehicle was developed in 1952 by Kaiser Motors, later to be updated by AMC. It has more in common with a tractor engine than a car engine. The vehicle I drive daily is not for everyone. But it does have 426,000 miles on the odometer and climbing. I do not think I could get 26 years of service and that many miles out of a modern vehicle with a modern drivetrain.

    On older engines, synthetic oil is a problem, because the oil breaks down depositos quickly, and these go al around the engine, causing trouble. There could also be some of those deposits that seal off a leak. You put synthetic, it washes it away, and oil will leak.

    I have an 08 impala that recommends 5w-30 right on the cap. Now I followed that when it had a lot fewer miles but now it has over 210,000 on its so I’ve recently switched to 10-40 which I change every 6,000 miles. With 5w-30 I noticed she was starting to burn about a quart and a half every 3,000 miles or so. That’s when I decided to switch to a thicker oil to occupy more of that space that has worn in due to normal wear & tear over its lifespan. I’ve been using fully synthetic keeping my oil changes between 6-7k miles and the car seems happy and keeps going. 👍🏻
