Understanding PANDAS and Pans: Neurological 🧠 Disorders in Children

  • If your child rapidly develops intense anxiety, repetitive behaviors, and tics, it could stem from PANDAS or PANS - a little-known and often confusing neuro-immune disorder. 😣
Traditional medicine offers little help, like continued antibiotics and salt tabs, while functional medicine dives deeper into the gut and immune system. However, when it comes to PANDAS/PANS, the stress and tension often get locked deep within the autonomic nervous system, and that foundational root cause must be addressed for full and complete healing. 🧠
To learn more about this foundational step and how everything is linked together and tied to an overstressed, overwhelmed, and exhausted nervous system, check out this wildly informative video by Dr. Tony Ebel! And feel free to DM us with any questions! Our team is always here to help! ♥️

My daughter developed PANDAS at age 3. It took over 4 years before it was "correctly" diagnosed. Since our insurance refuses to acknowledge its as a real illness, we went with the homeopathic route, as recommended by a doctor we meet with on zoom once a month - paid out of pocket.
She is 11 now and with the treatment I'd say she's 85-90% improved. The first 6 months alone saw about a 50% improvement in the intensity and duration of her "flare-ups". I'm not saying use homeopathic remedies, because every situation is different, but it did work for us.

Oh wow, in all my research, I never heard anyone say that PANS could be caused by RSV. That really resonated.
My son developed all those symptoms directly after a bout with RSV. It took me SO LONG to even figure out that he had P/P because it was always mentioned alongside strep.

Because the nervous system is so interconnected to immune function, specifically the Vagus Nerve... things can easily go both ways where neuro/dysautonomia components can be triggered and made worse by any viral (or bacterial) infection and immune challenge! The key is to always address the foundational neurological dysfunction and dysautonomia first and foremost!

that was so interesting and cool!

Our nine-year-old son was diagnosed with PANS back in January of this year after he started having wild episodes around bedtime where he seemed drunk, out of control, and like he'd been possessed. He has been on an antibiotic since then, and his mycoplasma pneumoniae antibody numbers are coming down, albeit very slowly. We're hoping the majority of the symptoms subside once his numbers are low enough.

So glad you've found out what it is and have a plan in motion to bring those down! Is there a protocol in play to help support his body and neuro-immune system to keep those numbers down on it's own after the Abx are done? And to rebuild the gut + microbiome!?!

He takes Florastor and Interfase for his gut, but of course due to his condition and autism/ADHD, he is a very picky eater and does not get great food in his body.

My daughter is 22 and has non-verbal autism. We are just finding out after many years of meds and behavioral interventions that it is likely PANS. Her mycoplasma pneumonias is high in addition to come of her Coxsackie titers.
Did your son need an MRI of the brain?

The problem is Very few docs will correlate the massive pediatric vaccine schedule with dysregulation of the immune system, and I. Turn not being able to clear infections….. leading to PANS. If left untreated, this eventually develops into psychosis

That's why we call it the "Perfect Storm" -- so many things are simply TOO MUCH and contribute to the onslaught, overload, dysregulation, and continued stacking of issues later on in life! Thankfully there are docs who KNOW and can help get the job of healing and staying healthy going forward done for families!
