Bully, you make great content. I backed away from content creation a while ago and focused on other things, and it makes me so happy to see you continuing onward ❤
That means so much coming from you. The space is better with you in it in any capacity and glad to see you focusing on what makes you happy (especially when it involves making my favorite actual plays).
I wish i was a roleplayer earlier. Jesus this hobby is just too good. Glad this hobby has someone like you Bully. I tried dipping my toes in rp in middle school, but got into it proper in my early 20's.
Thank you! TTRPG as a kid was wild, but also probably terrible for some people. The scene just keeps getting better so luckily there isn't a bad time to get into it.
@@SummonedStories That is true, it does get better, but my problem is that getting my group to run some v5 games is not an easy task. We are all busy at different times, so we only have about 3 hours weekly if everything clicks. Maybe summer will clear up our schedules a little bit.
Not gonna lie at this point I think the Storyteller's Vault is what keeps the game lively. If you know where to look there are amazing, unbelievably good materials there. *Better than official, even.
I do think there was a lull, but isn't exactly the case anymore. Although I'd love to hear what Storyteller Vault materials have stuck out for you. I've found some great ones, but I'm sure there are a lot more I'm missing.
@@SummonedStories in my opinion the best materials (in no particular order) are: -> Tlacique (portuguese and spanish only) -> Age of the Living Gods and Burning Gods -> Dark Eras: Rome -> Dark Kingdom of Ticum (I hear their next books on changeling and vampire will be even better) -> Savage Age and Relentless Age -> Gates of Immortality -> All V20 "Classical Age" -> Book of Seemings -> The True Hand -> São Paulo by Night -> Manila by Night -> Rio de Janeiro by Night (larp version) -> Milano by Night -> Philadelphia by Night
I ALMOST didn't play 5E because of the bullshit online about it i tried playing W20, and like, 3 sessions in? I swapped over to 5E and I couldn't have been happier lol Like, straight up, it's so much cleaner and so much less bogged down by annoying micro-rules for stuff. I love what they did with W5 so far mechanically, and the lore stuff I didn't like? I did it just like a true blue blood RPG fan does! I changed the fucking lore to fit what I like in the first place like any goddamn GM worth their salt would. We need to start spamming edition warriors with a 'get with the times, old man' gifs. That might actually work better than actual dialogue.
It really is that simple. I can't take people seriously who don't understand that they're allowed to make their own creative choices in a ttrpg. I'm a hater at heart so attempting a good faith dialogue was harrowing. Spamming gifs at would probably do a lot to heal my soul.
Small thing with Chronicles, the production of that will cease roughly after Clades companion for Deviant and Contagion Chronicles Ready made characters, which I am sad about but Storyteller's vault is going off with some great content for that system.
I wish this conversation wasn't relevant for any social interactions. Offering opinions and disagreeing with those offered can be useful only if we're eager to find a common ground. Otherwise we're just being belligerent, and I too wonder why that happens. To actively seek a scenario in which you can express how upset you are just doesn't compute. I can only fathom some sort of projection of anger unrelated to the topic being discussed, but I admit that's an ignorant perspective. I legitimately don't know how to understand that behavior. I have memories of acting that way when I was a child, but I still can't understand or don't remember why. I can at least say that it wasn't personal, which inspires some form of hope for the world. I don't believe the behavior is typically malicious. Your level-headed perspectives are appreciated. It's a lot easier to get flustered and bark back at upset people, fueling mutual antagonism. Not productive at all, but easier. That even feels animalistically correct. Instinctual. To sense hostility and want to counter-attack. But maybe that's just my hunger dice. And I appreciate the sympathy. I'm one of those new to WoD, and saying hello and expressing my interests in a chatroom recently incited multiple people to inform me that they didn't share *all* of my interests, while completely ignoring the ones that we did seem to share (Mage 20th. I'm with you on that too).
Welcome to WoD! I promise there are plenty of people who enjoy the games and even allow differences of opinion. They tend to spend more time playing games than complaining about them online though. I wouldn't be doing this if I hadn't met so many great people through this hobby. Even Tremere players. I feel your pain about the whole social break down around things as simple as hobbies. It's a sad phenomenon, but seems to be getting more common or at least more noticeable and encouraged online. Most online spaces are a series of algorithms that thrive off of engagement without ways to measure intrinsic value, so the behavior will always be rewarded. Anger creates dopamine which clouds judgement which makes it easier to get angry and we have to deal with an outrage loop that too many people lack the self-awareness to pull themselves out of.
Video editing can have a huge barrier to entry, BUT once you do it enough to get over that first hurdle it'll be MUCH easier as you get used to the general techniques and get used to whatever program you're using. Keep at it! Eventually simple videos won't be like punching yourself in your face for hours anymore (....as long as your computer behaves, but that's a different pain)
Caveat: I'm making a lot of assumptions, as I haven't done anything since leaving school a million years ago, but if those shitty video tapes and slow PCs eventually made sense, then the modern stuff HAS to be better. TLDR version: you're doing fine and it'll get better and easier
A few things I noticed- when I borrowed the 2nd edition core book 20-something years ago I was excited. I immediately made a rough draft of a city and NPCs and did solitaire character creation.... But I didn't get a chance to play so I don't know if I would have actually liked the game at the table. Reading V5 gave me a mild headache and I kept putting it down, but PLAYING has been a blast. I don't like amalgam powers that used to come from their own disciplines. I get the idea, but it feels weird. Purely subjective on my part, and I'm guessing if I didn't know it was different before I wouldn't care. It doesn't bother the other players in our group. I wish they better identified what power/ritual originally comes from what clan. I spent a lot of time in the wiki checking what came from Thaumaturgy vs Quietus etc. V5 is a simple system, because it doesn't have a lot of interconnected rules, but it has A LOT of rules, so it's not fast to learn.
@@icon_o_clast I appreciate your faith in my ability to win my war against technology. I'll figure it out one day, or (most likely) die trying. I have a similar opinion of amalgam powers. In fact, I often don't actually require certain prerequisites for disciplines like amalgams or specific lower level disciplines. I like the intent behind them. I think they very much needed to reduce the number of disciplines and amalgams make them more likely to be available to certain clans. I know some people love exclusive disciplines to make certain clans feel more special, but I personally really enjoy when vampires have unexpected abilities. To me V5 is a great way to show the old ways and structure are crumbling and new kindred have access to things the elders greedily guarded for centuries.
I think this is an excellent solution for players coming from older editions who want to keep what they loved while using the new system. I personally have homebrewed multiple bloodlines and disciplines to use in my V5 chronicles. I also use a version of the old mechanics for merits and flaws as I like 'buying' more advantages by taking flaws.
With Edition wars.. I tell people to run more games of their favourite edition, to show its benefits, rather than going online and trying to tell people your edition is better. I'm happy to play other editions but picked the edition I run for my personal style, time and preference.

That is a bummer. I haven't dove it Chronicles in awhile, but was into God-Machine and a lot of it seemed promising.
I would like to defend the edition of Mage that only exists in my head, please and thank you. I just have a lot of VERY good ideas, I swear!!
If we combine our Mage games I feel like there will be enough to just let us make it official.

I wonder who is this mysterious person outrage farming. :)
If such a person exists, I sure hope they get help. Or their internet goes out for awhile or something.
Jesse Custer? Arent you supposed go be exorcising demons?
TH-cam has taught me that the length of my facial hair allows me to shift between Jesse Custer and Billy Butcher and I'm not mad about that.
I would watch story teller guides or resources. I'm a little lost right now.
I think we have a few of those around here somewhere too
