My parents always told me I couldn't sing and I've been working on my voice for about a year now and when I was singing like a few days ago they were like: is that you singing ? Since when can you sing?
Same for me too, I practiced 2 years myself and my parents and my sibling didnt like my voice. But after my practice, my vocal range increased high af(because i wanted to sing more higher). I impressed my whole family and close others who never thought I can improve my singing through a vocal competition. Now Im so happy I can sing and have fun with my voice
I'm gonna give you the best top when facing a skill like singing who's the most difficult to master have passion for singing and improving don't just get up in the morning and decide you wanna sing just because of singing you gotta have passion for music and singing and if you do then no matter how hard you struggle you will enjoy struggling just to reach your full potential but, if you don't really have a passion for music then sorry bro you'll struggle, I'm I making sense?😁

"Stop listening to everyone, random vocal coaches on TH-cam don't know what they're talking about" *Me listening to a random vocal coach on TH-cam* 👁️👄👁️
That's one thing you should stop. Not believing in your voice. Every voice is unique in its own way. Your voice is not terrible. Believe that it's not terrible and you can start developing your singing voice. This only applies if you don't have any vocal damage. If your voice sounds hoarse, airy, breathy, or unnatural, you should try seeing a doctor to check if there are abnormalities in your throat. That way, you'll know what you need to do with your singing so the "damage" won't worsen. I hope this helped. Your voice is not terrible :)
To add to this: I've always hated the way I talk and the way I sing cause I have a feminine voice like freddy mercury and always wanted more of a ray lamontagnue voice. But in the last few years I've really started appreciating the fact that my voice is mine and it's wholly unique and I should have been proud all along. So now I'm writing music that suits my voice and it sounds like butter. Also losing weight affects your voice a lot, never knew until I started Keto recently but it sounds a lot less like thick cold butter and more like microwaved butter. Mmm
I know right Everyone says that my talking sound is bad(I don't know how to explain in english) and tells me to speak softly so I stopped talking until it's important
#1 is so true. It took 13+ years of singing and imitating others to realize my natural voice is so much easier to access than forcing a voice that isn't mine. This guy gets it.
It's hard for your speaking voice to 'sound' like your singing voice, when singing and speaking are such different activities. It's like saying one should run like they walk. But I understand that you should try to sing naturally and not imitate someone else's voice.
It is really very specific, our voice works in very different ways that others might sing better imitating others while some sounds like dying goat or vice versa
tmantheman my voice was messed up recently. I used to love it sounding very punk like and raw and so I learned Faux Tenor technique. I could sing up to Bb 4 in a belting voice and G5 in a falsetto. After playing a couple of gigs with that voice I found after 30 minutes I would really struggle and strain. I revaluated and in two months time I feel major difference in my voice and in the health of myself.
Depends on your technique and what you're using to sing. The closest to your voice is probably chest voice, bit you can still change like airflow and the position of the larynx
My 3 rules if you want to sing. 1. Don't get jealous if someone can sing better than you, sometimes you tend to be annoy by your friend or family when they are singing because they are better than you and you even distract them by doing bad singing. 2. Don't insult others if they can't sing well 3. Feel the song and appreciate all kind of music.

My girlfriend says all the time that no matter what I sing I always sing it like me. Been an unclean vocalist for almost 12 years now and been working on singing a lot more the last few years. I’m starting to realize I might have allergies that are changing my sound for the worse recently. Seemed like no matter how much I worked in my technique I would sound like I’m singing around a cold a lot. Some days though it wasn’t there at all. I noticed the same sound when I speak too. I’m hoping I figure this out because honestly I’m getting pretty damn good at singing finally :). I’ll have a few new covers coming on my channel soon with some clean parts.
"Singers don't sound the same live as they do in the studio." Gary Levox of Rascal Flatts literally sounds even better live. But yeah, I get what you're saying and agree with it for most singers.
Good points.....my disagreement isn’t really a disagreement - singing near to your speaking voice works well...but there are also many singers who can wail and create massive impact with such a singing voice (“wail” refers to singing in a verrry different way from one’s speaking voice.)....they both can and do work.....I mean, we’re talking about Art, so there are many ways and many tastes.
"Don't try to make an acoustic guitar sound like an electric guitar, don't try to shred on an acoustic like you would an electric." *Kyle Gass and Jack Black have entered the chat*
After the third one, i felt so kuch better. I'm 17 now and growing up, both my sisters could sing so graceful. They could always sing in harmony, the one in second soprano and the other in alto
@@rohannabendiola9897 hahahaha not trying to brag but a lot of people say that we Filipinos do sing well. Filipinos are the inventors of the karaoke because of how much we love singing hehe
To me his Nr. 1 doesn't necessarily mean you should do sls. In my opinion sls even encourages beginner singers to alter their voice because they get a wrong idea of mixed voice and early bridging. When speaking relaxed in your natural voice you're creating the maximum amount of overtones which is what you also want to achieve when singing. But by altering your voice by tensing your larynx muscles or adding air or changing placement etc. you're losing overtones.
My mum would always bring up that singers become singers because they have a gift therefore I wouldn't be good at it. Your videos give me hope, maybe one day I'll proove my mum wrong
Yeah my mom is even worse she dont even know that singing is a talent or like a work to have a deep relation with she want me to be a doctor and I am here that have a very good interest in singing. Hopefully they will understand.
Alot of singers are like actors. You don't really like your own performance. You know whether or not you can sing, but hearing ones own voice is just weird & different.
Hey Adam, love these videos...you mentioned in another clip - chest voice and head voice...I find it easier to use head voice for high notes but as i go up scale from low to high there's a glitch like the note gets lost in the transition point between chest V. and Head V., is there an exercise to remedy this?
i have always thought myself that not everyone who are singers and successful are born with the talent of singing and today your video made it easier for me to chase my dreams and i trust your advice Thank you
My voice was a little bit tenor I just can sing How am I supposed to live without you by Michael Bolton without straining but I can't sing high notes in the other songs properly.... What just happened?
Hey Adam, every time I'm singing over some songs I always try to sound like the artist, is that basically the point number 1? So I should just try to sing their songs with my voice to get better and not imitate their voice? Love your work!
I would say it's not necessarily that. You should stop trying to sound exactly like x or z singer BUT you can imitate their coordinations to learn. Every singer does different stuff and you can learn a little bit from them but you have to apply that to your own voice and figure out how those vocal coordinations sound with your unique voice. Hope I made some sense. Good luck
Hey Adam! Thanks man! This was a very inspiring upload also it is very important to fully believe in your best attributes no matter what and tune out all the naysayers who are so afraid to offer any support - it's their issue not ours! 🐶🐱
0:49 goshh now I'm scared. My voice is really high when I'm talking but when I sing it becomes way lower then when I talk but I'm not doing it on purpose.
Like any other muscle it requires working it out to get stronger and gaining proper muscle memory. Always do at least 3 relatively low volumed songs for warm up. Do about as many extreme or hard songs as you feel comfortable doing without feeling like you're straining your larynx. Don't forget to let the air flow out when you sing because after all that's how sound travels, also when you work your voice out by working on the voices you can't do or are having a hard time doing - don't be afraid to sing louder and gradually get looser to be able to do it quieter for more control, and activating your throat muscles that stop you from singing and singing louder will help work out the muscle actually opening your larynx and allowing air to flow out stronger. These are some tips if you want. * Oh I almost forgot, take at least 2 days apart from hard workouts to let yourself heal and get stronger, meanwhile at that time if you feel like you can you should work on technique rather than on singing to get to know your voice and larynx better.
Grear job. I am writing from Brazil. I think is just so hard to sing with a voice different from my natural voice. And I like my natural voice. When I start to play my acoustic guitar, my voice immediately turns high-pitched than the nourmal.
"Stop listening to your parents". God, I wish it were that easy. They actively discourage me from singing. They've done that for so long that I can't even sing in my own car out of fear sometimes.
James Tangman this pisses me off so much. Every time my bf tried to sing his mom would say “who sings that? Let them sing it instead!” He has such a pretty voice that needs some tuning if he would be free to practice but he can’t because of the constant discouragement :(
He has excellent advice. I just really didn’t agree with his “Opera” comment. Nothing about THAT demonstration was Operatic. He is clearly a pop singer and that is great. Beautiful voice.
And definitely being in an Indian born family where no one have the slightest understanding of the lyrics in family except the singer himself. So I started singing under blankets so the voice don't come out like breaking window panes or something. Even , born as countertenor so obviously the voice has higher range upto 4 octaves with ease. But as Indian singing and western singing differ more or less , then think I am some sort of baby crying or screaming. So that's the whole problem I literally face everyday.
My parents always told me I couldn't sing and I've been working on my voice for about a year now and when I was singing like a few days ago they were like: is that you singing ? Since when can you sing?
Same here i was told by my brother that i should keep my day job but now after a few weeks i sing my heart out

His coaching is very clear and detailed. Adam helped me so much with my voice. I can now sing better than before. Thank You ADAM MISHAN
"Singers don't sound the same live as they do in the studio."
Gary Levox of Rascal Flatts literally sounds even better live.
"Don't try to make an acoustic guitar sound like an electric guitar, don't try to shred on an acoustic like you would an electric."
*Kyle Gass and Jack Black have entered the chat*
I laughed too hard at this
After the third one, i felt so kuch better. I'm 17 now and growing up, both my sisters could sing so graceful. They could always sing in harmony, the one in second soprano and the other in alto

In short:
1. Sls
2. The proof is in the singing (c)
3. Something from selfhelp/motivation
4. Come as you are
5. No money - no honey.

Billie Eillish : hold my freaking beer
Do not touch my fav singer! Billie Eilish is a goddess!
(I'm just kidding)
Now I can't stop laughing about this comment I wrote
My mum would always bring up that singers become singers because they have a gift therefore I wouldn't be good at it. Your videos give me hope, maybe one day I'll proove my mum wrong
Yeah my mom is even worse she dont even know that singing is a talent or like a work to have a deep relation with she want me to be a doctor and I am here that have a very good interest in singing. Hopefully they will understand.

Best motivational video. I definitely going to try this.

My music coach I believe in is you Adam Mishan!
We don't have to be born with it
We have to learn it
Honestly blows my mind how well you make your points. Can’t help but laugh it’s so relatable
I only don't like the sound of my voice when It's recorded.
Use smule
Alot of singers are like actors. You don't really like your own performance. You know whether or not you can sing, but hearing ones own voice is just weird & different.
I thought I am the only one
I'm really glad that I watched this video... I feel motivated and I feel like I can reach my goal like I can achieve my dream now.
What just happened?
yeah ify
I got alot better at singing by just watching your videos and practicing it the way your way
Hey Adam, every time I'm singing over some songs I always try to sound like the artist, is that basically the point number 1? So I should just try to sing their songs with my voice to get better and not imitate their voice? Love your work!
Yes, it's exactly what he's talking about!
Good luck
makes a lot of sense! great answer.
omg I knew that was a problem. It gets me so frustrated 🤦🏻♀️
Hey Adam! Thanks man! This was a very inspiring upload also it is very important to fully believe in your best attributes no matter what and tune out all the naysayers who are so afraid to offer any support - it's their issue not ours! 🐶🐱
#5.) Truth! You MUST have the objectionable coaching to witness and correct the mistakes and errors.

But legends like Axl, AC-DC etc don't sound like they speak when they sing.. Even I speak deep clean voice but my singing is hard husky and light
Let them sing it instead!” He has such a pretty voice that needs some tuning if he would be free to practice but he can’t because of the constant discouragement :(
It works man ! Thanks buddy
It changed my singing a lot thanks for the tips

He has excellent advice. I just really didn’t agree with his “Opera” comment. Nothing about THAT demonstration was Operatic. He is clearly a pop singer and that is great. Beautiful voice.
Basically every point in this is mind blowing!
