    I am so glad I found you and your channel. I am Portuguese, my grandparents all came here earlier and all spoke Portuguese at home but my mom made us kids all speak only english . I miss hearing it even though I didnt understand it. Now that they are all gone I want to learn so I can talk to others and it will feel like home again. I am having a little trouble because I have a little deafness since I was a child so It helps for me to see words spelled as they are said so I can learn the words. Are there any books that might help in learning that you can recommend? Thank you in advance!

    Olá Sandra, gostava de comentar a utilização do "qual" vs "que". Mesmo que tenha o valor de selecção, usa-se sempre o "que" antes de um nome. Então, deve dizer-se:
    "Que cor prefere?"
    "Que dia prefere para a consulta?"

    • @learneuropeanportuguese
      @learneuropeanportuguese  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Olá André, obrigada pelo seu comentário. Na realidade, ambas as utilizações são válidas. "Que cor prefere?" e "Qual cor prefere?" . O objetivo do vídeo é contextualizar os usos do ponto de vista do aprendente. Em inglês, "Que cor prefere?" é "What color do you prefer?", enquanto "Qual cor prefere?" é "Which color do you prefer". "Que" é sempre seguido de nome, mas "qual" não. O que não quis explorar no vídeo foi esta equivalência, pois não se trata de uma regra, como é o caso de "que horas são?"

    • @asgouveia86
      @asgouveia86 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@learneuropeanportuguese Lamento mas não é válida essa utilização e sim trata-se de uma regra.
      Por exemplo na pergunta "Que línguas falas?", não podemos substituir o "Que" por "Quais". Não é correcto.

      @@asgouveia86 Acho que não está a perceber o contexto do meu vídeo. O seu link não responde a esta questão. Qual pode ser seguido por nome, pode procurar no dicionário ou numa gramática do 6º ano. Vejamos um exemplo num diálogo.
      Exemplo 1
      - Ontem fui ao cinema ver um filme e adorei.
      - Qual filme foi?
      Exemplo 2
      - Eu falo muitas línguas.
      - A sério? Quais línguas falas?
      Numa pesquisa rápida em gramáticas da Porto Editora encontrei outros exemplos:
      - Quais jogadores já ganharam a bola de ouro?
      - De todos os livros que leste, qual livro mais gostaste?
      Espero que tenha esclarecido o tema.

      @@learneuropeanportuguese Claro que percebi daí ter-me dado ao trabalho de responder :)
      A ideia de que podemos reforçar a ideia selectiva com a simples troca do "Que" pelo "Qual" e dessa forma comparar com o uso do "what" e do "which" em inglês parece-me errada.
      Apenas deixo esta questão para reflectir:
      ______ dia é hoje: sábado ou domingo?
      Qual ou Que?
      Recomendo talvez a leitura de uma gramática mais avançada.

    • @learneuropeanportuguese
      @learneuropeanportuguese  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mona, I might make a video about the uses of "de que" since it is a bit more complex. Remember that there are verbs that go along with the preposition "de" like gostar e precisar. So when you ask a question with these verbs, in many cases you need to include the "de" and it comes before the question word. That's why we ask "De que tipo de filmes gostas"?

    I have a follow up question. If one were selecting from a limited selection and being asked to choose multiples would one use Quais? For example, there are several days available at the doctor's office and they are asking which days I prefer. Would it be: Quais dias prefere?

    • @learneuropeanportuguese

      Good question! Quais is only used when you are choosing more than one. So if you are choosing one day within a limited selection, it would be: Qual dia prefere? Now if you are scheduling two appointments for example, then you can ask: quais dias prefere? Hope this helped!

    Obrigada! This has been something I've been pondering a lot lately! Now how do you handle the fact that a phrase like: "O que é isto aqui" actually ends up SOUNDING something like: "Ookshtkee"? 🙂I could recognize and comprehend each one of those words individually, but that is not how they are actually delivered. Every day I go out among the Portuguese speakers in my village, armed with new knowledge, certain that today will be the day when I have a breakthrough in "Listening Comprehension". Every day I am baffled by the fact that though my simple sentences are more or less understood by the locals now, I am still mostly lost when they respond. I've taken to asking clarifying questions that force them to respond with a simple "Yes" or "No".

      @@learneuropeanportuguese Eu sei falar português, espanhol, francês, alemão, inglês, italiano e sei algumas palavras e frases muito básicas do russo. O desafio agora é manter todas essas línguas no nível avançado. O mais difícil não é aprender, mas lembrar-se de tudo o que aprendemos e usar esse conhecimento linguístico para o nosso benefício e no teu caso transmitir esse conhecimento com os teus alunos. A minha tia Rosa diz que eu sou um crânio 🧠 para as línguas. No entanto tenho essa sensação de não saber muito ou penso que ainda me falta muito para alcançar esse objetivo.
