    I thought the mini had a little more character to it's tones than the full sized one, everything on it just sounded a little more interesting.

    My gripe with traditional-style hollow body guitars has always been the size, so it's cool to see the mini that captures the vibes in a smaller package. Thanks, Darrell!

    Beautiful, both of them 👌

    So many phenomenal, alternative manufacturers of new guitars these days, other than Gibson & Fender. Eastman, D'Angelico & Schecter are great guitar manufacturers. Epiphone have come on leaps and bounds too. You can get a great guitar without breaking the bank, especially, if you're buying it second hand. Add a great second hand amp, some effects pedals, microphones, a computer with a DAW & a separate audio interface. That's all you need. You really can get a professional studio & sound for less than £3k, if you look around. Never been a better time for musicians, to produce their own music. The major labels are practically redundant, these days IMHO.

    For those worried about size, looking to buy a semi with very warm tones and looking for a middle ground between full size and mini. I recommend checking out the SS model instead (Also dangelico ofc).. because it's a 15" body while the mini DC is 14" and the standard DC is 16"... Its' shape is a bit different but it's also semi+center-blocked and also comes in absolutely stunning finishes.

    I've had a Deluxe DC for almost a year. Love it. To split the coils, it has a 6-way switch instead of push/pulls.

    I’m not normally a fan of gold hardware but it really works on these guitars. That stair step tail piece on the full size is awesome

  • @cloudbudget
    @cloudbudget 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Maybe my ears are playing tricks on me, but the mini had deeper fuller and dare I say more compelling tones than the full size. I was surprised considering the pickups are the same, but the tonal difference was consistent for all positions and levels of distortion (except maybe the bridge pickup when split). As always - thanks!!!!! Afraid to learn the price, not that they aren't worth it. They are!

    I’m getting a Premier Mini from Sweetwater, which is a limited edition. It comes with SD Jazz/ JB combo & locking tuners. I have a set of Seth Lovers which I plan to install unless the stock ones blow me away. Seth Lovers are my favorite pickup, so I’ll likely change them. No coil split, no big deal. Most coil splits are weak & Seths are low output pickups. Thanks for the review. I’m glad you like the Mini. I’m looking forward to it. I have a 335 style that sounds great, but big body is awkward & not very comfortable.

    Hey Darrell I've watched your channel for a few years now, and I really like your approach to the content you present. I used to live in Canada, in fact I'm a Canadian citizen but I live in Portugal now and have for a lot of years. Canada is just so messed up now it's crazy. Sometimes I criricize Portugal but when you compare it to Canada it's just a far batter place to live, it's in the top 3 safest countries in the world, it's really hip and modern and ancient at the same time, it's like antiquity meets the modern world. I do miss Canada a lot but I'm grateful that we don't have so many of the laws that are in place in Canada where grown men walk into a women's bathrooms where you can have an 8 year old little girl present, that's just so wrong. Anyway I just bought a D'Angelico Deluxe mini DC and it hasn't arrived yet so I'm watching your take on it. Take care. Mike.

    I like features of both Angelico guitars, though the smaller size and tone between the two Angelico guitars I liked the most. With that said, "I love my Epiphone ES339 more size, quality parts, construction, weight, overall feel and fit along with it's playability, tone and lots of sustain without the larger hollow body microphonics and a Much lower price range" ! ! !

    The mini is like the Epiphone ES-339, available with P 90s or splittable humbuckers. I love my Pelham blue ES-339 (with P-90s), it was a bargain at the price, I added a Duesenberg trem system - installs in minutes!... I'm not sure what the D'Angelicos go for, they have higher-end appointments, and look great! I really enjoy your channel, Darrell, I tell all my friends about you!

    Personally I liked the full size much better but wouldn't turn down a mini. I thought the full sounded clearer and more defined or distinct. Plus the look of that mahogany is great with the gold hardware topped it right off. Did I mention that beauty tailstock or the inlays and pickguard?

    Beautiful workmanship and sound, brother Darrell. Not having a lot of money these days, I bought a flame maple Grote 335 w/tobacco finish. It is a couple inches longer than a conventional 335 @ 42". Having swapped out the strings with Elixir's coated 10 gauge I'm very happy with the tone through my Marshall half-stack. While I'll never have your technique, Darrell I have fun every day just finger picking and strumming my comps. But I always give you a listen, bro. You are my "continuing education" teacher. :^)

    Great review DarrelI! I just received my Mini Dc in Surf Green number 9 of 50. I love this guitar, it is one of those that you connect with at first glance and first play. The tones are really dynamic, the quality of the build is great. The neck feels fantastic and it has Ebony for it's fretboard, my favorite. An instant classic.

    Just can't seem to warm up to semi-hollows that have white purfling lining the F holes. Hmmm... nope. Just can't warm up to it. Would prefer them without it. I've seen guitar tops that are so thin they have to have it lining the F holes because it would reveal how paper thin the wood is. Just my humble opinion. PS another great vid Darrell. Keep that Canadian made content coming. Bid thumbs up from a fellow Canuck.

  • @foxythepirate98wolfgangh20
    @foxythepirate98wolfgangh20 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Deluxe Mini DC sounds more musical to my ear than the DC so I bought the Mini DC and have to say I'm far from disappointed. In fact I'm thrilled. The Mini DC is just a wonderful sounding and playing guitar right up there with a Gibson 335 or 339 with similar tonality. However with even more tonal variations with the split coil humbuckers. Mine came with SD PAF 59's and not Seth Lovers and sound just as nice. The quality of workmanship, set up, etc. was perfect right out of the box. No need to take to my local luthier at all. Plus the price point at less than half a 335/339 is a can't lose and everything to win scenario. No, I don't work for D'Angelico. Just passing on my experience.

  • @chrisjeneson3763

    If the mini suffers from neck dive then I would choose the big one. I have the small Gretsch version and of it dives
    like a submarine! I don't like either finish of either of these but they sound good in your hands.

  • @rayschoch5882
    @rayschoch5882 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Too expensive for my tastes, but I like their look. The guitars themselves are pretty, as expected, and I'm a fan of D'Angelico's stairstep tailpiece and unique headstock, but for me, the best parts of these guitars aesthetically are the eye-popping fretboard inlays. They're spectacular! I've never liked "gold" hardware, and would avoid a guitar so equipped. The larger one is just a bit more mellow in tone, but they both sound good. Wish you'd include weight with your reviews, Darrell.
