    I have to say, the quality available for guitar players in this time blows me away, back in the 70's/80's you simply couldn't get this standard for the price! (old man comment delivered)

    • @Buffrt66

      I agree. You had your choice of Gibson, Fender, Guild, Gretsch or junk.

    • @mattx5499
      @mattx5499 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Buffrt66 There were other brands that made good quality guitars for sure but they were not as cheap as today. Now you can get a good quality guitar for something like $200. This is beacuse the production technology changed drasticaly. Now we have automated tools and machines that can make guitar parts and cut wood with laser precision. If you know history of Fender you know that back then guitar pickups were made by person controling the coper wire winding process and now it can all be done by a machine, the same for casting bridges and tuners for example. All those CNC machines made stuff a lot cheaper. Today's assembly lines look like a sci-fi stuff compared to factories back in 70's, 80's or even 90's.

      So true. Affordable guitars that were actually playable were non-existent in the mid 70s

    • @artyrichman
      @artyrichman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Michael Gorman, I am not sure about your statement.
      In the 70's & 80's you had a ton of guitars that were being made in Japan and later Korea like Ibanez, Yamaha, Burny, Greco etc and so on. These guitars were of a decent quality and cheap at the time. Some of these are now considered classics and are very collectable. The same thing is happening now but they are being made in China.

    • @Peasmouldia
      @Peasmouldia 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@artyrichman You're right, but... Back in the late 60s/early70s the guitars you mention were far less available. Even if, like me, you lived in London. Even West End stores didn't carry many budget friendly guitars. I owned a Hondo LP copy & a Teisco as my first electrics. Then I got a Gibbo Melody Maker. £90 second hand (fair bit of wedge then) the difference was night and day from the Japanese banjos. I still have the Teisco. As you say, in good original order, worth silly money now in my view.
      Wish I still had the Melody Maker though....

    It seems that they paid attention to exactly what matters to the player, and didn't worry about a little cosmetic flaw, which is great reasoning at this price point. Those frets are SO good! Thanks as always for the time and effort you take to make these videos.

    I was looking around for a decent semi-acoustic and came across this. I write and sell library music so I was wanting something to get a more mellow and jazzier tone. After your positive review I decided to buy one of these. I have to say I'm blown away by it. I took it out the box, tuned it up and started recording. It felt so comfortable and like I'd been playing it for years. Absolutely incredible for the price. Highly recommended.

  • @57stratkat
    @57stratkat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    I own two Eart guitars - the NK3 strat style and the tele model. Both are top notch. The tele just kills. The bridge is quality with steel saddles and intonates perfectly. It stays in tune even with heavy bending. The pickups didn't need to be replaced - I've done nothing to it and it's great as is. I can't put it down. All for less than $300. I look at my large collection of guitars and feel like it's time to let a lot of them go. It's almost disturbing that the least expensive one is the most fun to play.

    The bias grain of the neck would worry me. Ages ago I had a 12 string with bias grain in the neck. After about a year, the neck suddenly snapped into two pieces mid neck, held together by only the truss rod and strings. It snapped loudly while sitting untouched in a guitar stand. POW! and it was toast.

    I bought a EART EGLP-511 based on this video. They stopped making LPs so I got it "used" but unplayed and prestine. I was looking to replace an SG that I lost years ago because I love the Gibson neck. This EART is every bit as good. I like a flatter neck so I took it down a notch and am impressed that there is no threat of buzzing with the action that low. I can even adjust it to sound like a gibson. I LOVE IT. Thank you for your recommendation.

    Good on you, Darrell for this video. I saw a guitar I (another comment below refreshed my memory. The guitar I was running to get the money for was an 80s Tokai, made in Japan and all, and it was priced at just over $200) wanted at a local pawn shop, but when I came back with $, it was gone, as was a Taylor I was interested in. However, they had that exact guitar in new condition (plastic still on the pickguard and pickups). I was bummed, but I talked them out of this exact guitar for $180 with a beater case. Thanks to you, I now know that I have something NOT to be left in the far back corner of my closet. I think I got the better end of that, because I might have given the employee a bit too much information about the guitar I was originally interested in, so armed with my knowledge, he bought it and the Taylor with his employee discount. I spent less than I wanted to, and apparently got a heck of a deal for my $180...

    I was looking for a great-playing, lighter-than-usual, 335-style guitar, and bought one a few weeks ago based on your Review. I am not disappointed in the least! It is a really fine guitar, as you demonstrated. I bought mine direct from EART Guitars, $399-US, which included free shipping from China, and I had the guitar in under two-weeks. It was set up beautifully, and was even in-tune right out of the box. And it IS really light! Thank you for the right-on Review.
    P.S. I have a 335-style guitar that I had custom-made in Taiwan in 1968, when I was there with the Air Force. It was my #1 guitar for over 50 years. It has stainless steel frets, and still does not show ANY wear and plays beautifully. As a result, I'm a big fan of stainless steel frets!

    After 6 or 7 tries the video finally played...
    Thanks for the honest, close-up and concise review. While trying to get your video to play, I came across another channel reviewing an Eart Strat model and trying far too hard to find fault with it. He moaned for six and a half minutes before he even opened the box, and after skipping a couple of times I went all the way to the thirty-something-minute end to see the conclusion where he was obviously far more impressed with it than he wanted to be or would admit.
    Your review is much more objective and comprehensive while also being much shorter.
    Anyway, it appears that if playability is the number one priority and cost is an issue that this is a solid option. Thanks for your frankness.

    It’s freaking beautiful, that’s one thing it is. But seriously, Darrell, this is a big part of what I like about your channel. It also. Makes me wish I was 18 now, vs 58, but we can’t change that. The idea that an 18 year old can buy a gorgeous 335 style. Guitar with butter smooth SS frets, for UNDER $400, is mind blowing. Add to that reviews from super honest, nothing to gain, great players, like yourself, to make me comfortable buying one of these, and the buying options and atmosphere for young players couldn’t be better.
    I have more guitars than I can count, and my wide. Was just complaining about how many are sitting around in cases on stands or hanging on the wall. But your amazing reviews make me continue to Jones for more. Keep doin whatchor doin. You are my favorite YT channel!

I've never played a BC Rich before but quite some months ago there was a BC Rich ordeal a bunch of people were buying them/ selling them for premium prices. That has slowed down. Pretty much what I'm saying is you can hear a TH-camr talk about a guitar all day it doesn't mean that it's a good guitar.

    The sound quality is really nice, I’ve heard others mention about the older guitars, the quality now is amazing compared to what was available in the 80’s and 90’s. There was guitars my friends purchased that weren’t even playable without a really good setup. I had a old Silvertone my uncle had left behind when he went away to Vietnam, along with a full size Fender amp. It’s help to see you and a couple other TH-camrs who check out some of the lower end guitars. I’ve had every kind of guitar over the years and the last 4 yrs I’ve been playing a Hagstrom Ultra Swede I love. Has great clarity and sustain. The neck is amazing!! These newer guitars are very versatile, being able to split the pick ups to single coils. Thanks again for your reviews

I am doing my due diligence on several 335 types and I liked the SS frets, I've seen you show bending and rough noise on others . That would have been a good feature here as the SS frets will probably be the clincher for me. I am now going to see the Indio Boardwalk as a last shot. Thanks again.

    Man these "cheap" guitars are getting better and better. Some of these brands show that you don't need to spend thousands of dollars for a guitar that may play worse than something like this. Sometimes you pay for the brand name but once you pick up a nice gibson all of that changes. Its like stepping into a different dimension

    I bought a lefty 335 from EART for apox $400. My expectations were low given the price. Arrived in mid- September 2021. It was kind of playable except for fret buzz on frets 1-3 and above 12 on 2 strings. Yes, the frets are polished stainless steel but the were uneven. I took it to a guitar store to get it setup properly ($125) and now ... for $525 I have a pretty good guitar.

    I have 3 Ibanez guitars from their “custom” series that have the same fret treatment (although the frets are still, if I’m not mistaken, nickel). I remember reading about it when they came out - the frets are shaped prior to being installed and pressed in. They do play wonderfully. Can post more about the models if interested.

    I bet they've found a way to mechanize the cutting and finishing of the frets before they are installed. That is just the most tedious part of building a guitar (except maybe all the sanding) and it takes considerable skill to round the ends like that. And it's even harder with stainless steel.
    It's not important really, except that, if that is the case, then the chances are good we'll start seeing that level quality on all guitars in the future. (Fingers crossed)

    • @jamesthe-doctor8981
      @jamesthe-doctor8981 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had this same thought. The fret ends look exactly like they’ve been shaped with something we jewelers call a cup burr which is used to round off the square tips of the prongs in gemstone mountings before polishing to a high shine. I don’t think it’s really harder to do with stainless steel, just more expensive because you need special, harder tooling...unless the stainless has been annealed, which means softened. It could be done a lot cheaper that way, and if they do, I would hope they heat and quench to harden it.

    • @kmatax9237
      @kmatax9237 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      its not a hard problem. find highline guitars video showing a simple way of using a dremel and polishing wheel to make perfect ball ends on frets. measure, cut fret to size, run the end thru dremel wheel, pound it in and polish them up. i tried it and it works fine but im not a fan of ball ends cuz they take away string space. i use a 10deg bevel file, dress the ends and polish them. i dont like a 35deg bevel on fret ends, strinds slide off too easy, same with ball ends. its a boutique guitar world trick and it looks pretty but you dont see it a common practice as much

    • @ELITE815
      @ELITE815 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have 2 Eart guitars. I'm 99% sure the frets are preshaped prior to installation. If you look down the neck you will notice the fret ends aren't exactly lined up with each other like most other guitars. On some frets you can see that it doesn't even span the entire width of the finger board. That being said it's not an issue and feels great regardless. Though I'm not so sure about them being stainless steel. I have ones with zero frets that have already acquired divots where the strings rest.
