For me the most astonishing thing about Star Wars is how the hell an IP that was already crumbling down since 1983(!) has spurred sooooo much garbage for 40 years and counting. I can understand Star Strek, which produced TOS, TOS movies, TNG, DS9, in a span of 30+ years, but Star Wars? Shieeeet
Here's the thing. Jack Black has a very established humour brand attached to his face. When I saw his face in one excerpt from the series, I automatically assumed it came from a spoof, like something straight out of a late-night show taking the piss out of Star Wars. It's completely off brand for Star Wars to use a face like Jack Black for this. Hell Samuel Jackson has a big personality and even he took it down almost to the point of being boring just to fit Lucas' vision. And you know what? You don't see Samuel Jackson in Star Wars, you see Mace Windu. You can't do that with someone like Jack Black or Lizzo, especially when they look exactly like they do in other appearances.
I'm fortunate enough to not even know who Lizzo is, but I sure as hell recognize Jack Black and you are right about his brand. I honestly love the guy to death, but he has no place in Star Wars unless underneath heavy alien make-up and doing an excellent job as a VA.
Having Lizzo in Star Wars is like Ed Sheeran in Game of Thrones it shows you the show runners would rather be popular than produce a decent quality show
Season 2's finale was the end. Mando completed his mission to get Grogu to his home where he is safe. They had their emotional goodbye, Grogu finally saw his protector's face, and we got a bittersweet and emotional departure between the pair we had grown to love over the course of two seasons. What better ending is there than that? Why continue after that? Story is done, lets move on. But NOOOOOOOO, Disney/Lucasfilm does not know when to stop.
Agreed. Shows they had no idea where to go story wise post Grogu. Luke’s appearance was awesome. SW fans wanted Luke in his prime. Mandolorian gave us a glimpse and honestly shoulda given us more into season 3
100%. Said at the end of the second season that it would be the perfect place to leave the story - not in any small part because I knew that Disney would corrupt it if it went on for too long. They just can't help themselves. I would absolutely love to know what Kennedy has on the higher-ups at Lucasfilm, though.
@@TheAcad3mic I won/read most of the Legends. Sure there were some issues, similar to issues the Prequels raised. Lucas/Lucasfilm kept some involvement so you can see the guidance. And they had a couple of people working on continuity issues. So they at least felt in universe, even if there were mistakes. Disney does everything wrong and then screws up even more. All these famous cameos are cringe stunts, fanboy self inserts the completely take me out of the story. (which is easy because there is no story there) My head canon stays with Lucasfilm to the day George sold the franchise.
@@jasonkiefer1894 I'm blindly trekking through legends and, as fucking weird as it can be, it feels like Star Wars. Right now, I'm playing through the Dark Forces series and it's amazing. Great gameplay, solid stories (I wouldn't say they're groundbreaking), and really immerses you into the Star Wars galaxy even if it was made in a time before the prequel movies or later lore (Jedi Knight 2 was made two years before Episode 1, so it's very vague about the Jedi order before Ep 4).
as far as i'm concerned star wars peaked in Kotor 1 & 2 and it hasn't managed to reach that same level since. those two games have a better story than all of the movies combined.
Not exactly .... unfortunately George KNEW what he was doing as evidenced by his interview where he called disney "white-slavers... who take these things and...."
Exactly what it reminded me of. But cringy comic relief aside, so far almost all of Season 3 feels off. The main story arc is interesting enough but does not get enough attention, and the subplots kind of feel like shitty side quests in a 90s RPG. With about the same quality of writing.
Yes, I hadn't seen the episode yet when I saw that clip being shared and I thought at first it was a lame spoof attempt, lol. Then I literally did a double take when I saw Bo Katan in the background.
@@mallios13 Considering how lame the argument was that got her the Darksaber again, I'm hoping that the Mandalorian mercenaries are actually not all on board with her as their leader, but she (or someone else) ends up taming the Mythosaur to actually take the throne legitimately.
Yeah, I have no interest in seeing another giant monster basically because a tame horse. They should be for killing and destruction, not video game mounts.
@@archivey-h8e I feel like Jack Black could work, the problem is that people only use him for that one wacky comedy relief character that he always does. Lizzo too, she could play a Hutt.
@garym6315 I'm happy to see Jack Black was getting work, though I suspect him playing Bowser and the hype that generated is why he was hired to do a guest appearance.
@@robbhays8077 Boba Fett was at least watchable. Naturally knowing how badass he was in lore and now seeing him often in a tank healing is absurd but at least it had a good idea. I just wonder when people are going to stop entirely? After Last Jedi I checked out. I'm not even interested in watching the OG trilogy again cause it is becoming an intentionally lessened part of a bigger narrative. Also it's frustrating to me as a struggling artist that I have to compete with the corpse of a franchise that people can't stop watching.
I think it’s interesting to point out how Bill Burr and Gina Corano were actors who had stardom from other mediums (comedy and MMA) but they didn’t break immersion.
@@connorbingel7134 I honestly think that’s why a lot of people disliked them. Star Wars has been home to comedy and levity before but I think it’s pretty clear that Mando fans want serious episodes that are plot driven.

I really feel for the real SW Fandom, having to watch something that has brought so many people joy for so long be destroyed right before your eyes sucks!

What happens when you start to hire yes people and activists is that they don't question the message at all at they are all on the same political page. The best cameo I can think of in recent memory was having Brad Pitt as Vanisher in Deadpool 2. There is just something that is so funny about getting a very attractive absolute mega star to play a character who doesn't speak and is completely invisible except for half a second when you see him die.
I miss when he was a gritty, violent bounty hunter who nearly died against a space rhino if it wasn’t for Grogu.. that was the peak of their relationship - cos I actually felt a sense of peril.. then he got that beskar suit - and I’m suddenly supposed to worry? It’s like John Wick with his bulletproof suit.
@@firstlast9846 It would’ve been cool to see him get that beskar armor right before he ascended the throne. Like Aragorn in his shiny armor when he finally accepts the crown. Imagine if each Mandalorian clan leader donated a little of their beskar to him as a sign of respect and the armorer melts it down to build him a suit of armor fit for the Mand’alor.
We've gone from that epic scene in season 2 with Bill Burr sitting at table with imperial and mandalorian, to Grogu using the force to help Lizzo win at a silly game. For just a moment, I thought they were two different shows..
Dont forget that literally half of season 1 was filler. Mandalorian S2 was more consistently non filler but S3 filler vs story progression isnt coming out of nowhere. Its just disappointing because we all viewed S2 as an improvement over S1 in that aspect, and then it reversed course
@@Tylerm1013 nah sorry, don't compare the two. The filler of season one was still authentic and genuine to what the show was, even if it was meh, it was still done in good spirit. But what we have now is simply THE MESSAGE
@@Captain_Insano_nomercy I disagree. What "message" were we getting in this latest episode? It was trash filler, but they weren't pumping messages into us here
@@Tylerm1013 did you see the multiple obese people? How the crotchety old guy who liked "the old ways" was the villain? The guy who hated democracy and soft people but loved Count Dooku? How Bo Katan beat a stereotypically toxic male leader who was overly aggressive and impulsive in combat?
The problem with Mando season 3 is that we didn't see Din without Grogu at all. The fact that there was an episode in the Book of Boba Fett all about Din going to try to see Grogu, and Luke making him choose between Jedi and Mando ways didn't allow the momentous season 2 ending to sit at all. It was right back to business as usual. Truthfully, Din should have gone most of season 3 without Grogu, realized how much he missed him, and went to get him back at the finale.
Also agree. After what Mando went through to get him there, you'd think Grogu would have chosen the light sabre because that is what Din wanted. Perhaps later, Luke could realize that he wasn't happy or focused, and allowed Grogu to leave... At least a few more episodes of suspense would have made sense.
@@rog6725 I must admit during the start of season 3 of Mando I'd actually forgot all about Grogu choosing Mando over the Jedi training at first in the Book of Boba Fett. I was like 'eh?????'........then 30 mins in I remembered lol. Sums up the writing. I'll never forget how season 2 of Mando ended, for me that was the best thing Disney have done with the franchise since Darth Vader's Rogue One corridor scene. Like father like son! But Season 3 of Mando has taken simply too long to get interested, hence many people not bothering to watch it.
@@Cyrus_II - The irony is that I thought she was going to get the Darksaber all along. I just thought it was going to happen at the end of a season-long arc where her philosophy and Din's eventually gets to a point where they're diametrically opposed to each other, and they have some kind of duel where she legitimately wins and earns the title of ruler. She doesn't get it randomly handed to her at the end of a filler episode with stunt casting.
The Jack Black & Lizzo duo is exactly like the Dwarf & wife couple in Rings Of Power. It's like they saw the flop that is Rings Of Power and thought "how can we replicate that?"
The difference is that the couple in ROP the actress who plays the dwarf is an actress. Not a singer pretending to be an actress. The dwarf plot in ROP was actually okay. One of the only decent parts of the show.
This was their big "save the franchise" episode with all the "Star power". Jack Black, Lizzo, and Christopher Lloyd. The writers were high on themselves for coming up with this glorious idea and patted each other on the back and danced in their denial. It's really sad to see Star Wars fall to such a low. This is what happens when finance is the primary goal.
This show really started out as something really cool. It was the gritty and intense world of bounty hunters that I’ve always wanted to see more of in the universe and Mando became one of my favorite Star Wars characters ever. He had such uniqueness to his character despite not being the first Mandalorian we’ve seen in Star Wars and Pedro Pascal and his body doubles brought the character to life in ways that made him so endearing. Now? I just don’t know what the show is now. It’s been stripped of everything that made fans like me fall in love with it.
It all went to hell with The Book of Bob, A. Fett. They royally screwed up Boba's character as established in Mandalorian and then undid 2 seasons worth of advancement by having Grogu come back even though the marketing novelty wore off to the point where his merch is in the bargain bins
Yeah. And not to mention the camera work was very similar to the camera work from the OT, plus the use of typical lucasarts sounds. It truly felt like Star Wars at that point. But sadly ever since we've been drifting further and further away from that. And now it's barely recognizable.
@Bing Boom Pow Plus, how Leia's appeal to Obi Wan in A New Hope is worded really seems odd with the add a show involving him and her. Where's the continuity guy for that, right?
Yes. I wonder what is really going on. Are Jon and Dave the real deal, and have they just been crippled this season with studio KK interference? If they are as good as people used to think, then what went wrong on the Fett and Kenobi shows? KK yet again? If the pair of them were allowed to run Star Wars and KK was out along with her crew of idiots would they do better....I am no longer so sure.
The problem is that SO MUCH rides on who's directing the episode. Some directors want to make a mature, story-driven, well paced episode, while others want to show us a 35 min goofy side quest
Mandalorian had potential, I truly believe that. However, it died for me when they brought back grogu during Boba Fett and didn't let Mando actually have his own show. It's the Grogu show featuring Mando and now it seems there's yet ANOTHER character taking the spotlight from him in what is supposed to be his own show on
it peaked with season 2, they made all the character cameos, Boba Fett, Luke, Ahsoka, and the finale of S2 felt like it could've been the end of the show, so my interest in upcoming seasons died there, died even more when i heard about Grogu return. And this is not even the last season, are you kidding me, this show has no subtance and characters to hold up to 4+ seasons, this is a joke
I think the only reason why Bill Burr worked well in s1-2 is because they actually gave him a mini character arch with an actual character development. Although be it short, he was an interesting cast calling and seemed to genuinely envelope the role
I wouldn't even argue he had a great arc (on account of him blowing up the facility full of soldiers he felt moderately sorry for, excluding his former commander). But I would argue that reason why Bill Burr worked was that... It wasn't Bill Burr. He actually acted the character he was given. But with Jack Black and Lizzo? They're there, just as Jack Black and Lizzo.
This was the episode that finally convinced me that everyone involved has lost their way. Grogu is an accessory. His fate doesn't matter anymore. The bond between Din and Grogu doesn't matter anymore. Worse still they've made the entire retaking of Mandalore story boring. The joke used to be that Din's back must be sore for carrying the entire Star Wars universe on it. Well I guess they finally broke it. Character arcs be damned so sure, lets take our noble lead and show how violently unhinged he is towards droids. Did we not spend a few episodes where he was stubbornly refusing to give up on resurrecting a droid he respected? All of this done in service of building up Bo Katan to be the more rationale partner? This is some grade A MCU level screwing over the lead to prop up the female character.
Filloni did this with Ashoka. There's no reasons to believe he wouldn't do it with the mandalorian and Bo Katan. He's a one trick pony. And Favreau admitted that he didn't have a plan for the mandalorian. So you have it.
So I don’t expect every episode to be gold, but I agree with you to an extent. I stubbornly hope the show has something that will capture the nostalgia or some old Star Wars magic…but yea this last one and the whole season was just isn’t entertainment. I just don’t get why people that supposedly are huge Star Wars fanboys (mainly thinking about Filoni, Favreau) somehow are ok with putting this little level of caring(couldn’t think of a better way to put it?) into something they claim matters to them. I just can’t wrap my brain around that part unless it’s pure PR that they grew up fans
@@Msh42069 People need to PUNISH Disney. When I saw the pictures of Lizzo, Jack Black, and Tim Meadows in it, I thought "Do they even THINK they are making a Star Wars anymore? Or do they openly know they are making something else and slapping the Star Wars label on it?"
Honestly, I think they just stopped trying due to either lack of ideas or just creative burnout. Either that, or they intentionally wanted bo Katan to be treated the same way as ahsoka.
@@js-cm9si my irresponsible speculation is that they were interfered with/overridden on wrapping up Mando/Grogu's arc in the middle of Boba Fett and said "F#$# it" and delivered season 3 half baked.
Season 1 of the Mandalorian worked just fine. Although every episode had the same formula, it was enough to make people happy again just because they once didn't do something massively and obviously stupid with the I.P. You just had to wonder how long can you go forward with the same formula for every episode. Season 2 was actually good, because they mixed the fetch quest episodes with episodes who actually moved the plot forward and it seemed they actually had a plan for the plot (I know amazing, right?) AND THEN the Book of Boba came a long and had absolutely nothing to tell, dragged the Mandelorian into this and reversed the whole plot of season two of Mando and its grand finale. So once again you got this feeling: Oh they don't have a plan, they don't know what to do, they do have one original character in years that works as merchandise (Grogu/ Baby Yoda) they just wsnna cash in on it. But fans stop caring for your shows when you make it this obvious that you don't have a plan or the plan ( I believe Dave Falloni actiually had one) just gets dumped on. Again.
There aren’t too many women who would outweigh Chris Hemsworth, but Lizzo is definitely one.😂

The Mandalorian is going to be Loki/Hawkeye 2.0, where the titular character is a support character in his own show. Also, for everyone that thought that Dave Filoni or Jon Favreau were going to "save the franchise" I think it's pretty telling that is not going to happen. Dave Filoni especially is just a Joss Whedon 2.0.

For the first two seasons I was blown away by how great the series was. It felt like 'movie quality' to me. Now every episode varies from good to okay. There were some great scenes, some enjoyable characters, and occasional hints of good things to come, but then the characters' difficulties are wrapped up too easily and neatly with a bow. And the overall story of Din and Grogu seems to have lost its momentum because of too many subplots that turn out to be dead ends. I keep hoping that the Mandalorian will get back on track. Otherwise, there was never a reason why Grogu can use the force, and happens to be the same species as Yoda, beyond tapping fan emotions.
Brutal honesty: You have bad taste. Star Wars is a dead franchise running purely on nostalgia and rampant consumerism - you are literally the cause of the continual beating of the dead horse. Please stop. Protip: Instead of sitting there braindead watching another trashy installment in a franchise that's the equivalent of a dead horse thats been beaten into dust, go read a book written before 1965. I suggest the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius or Vom Krieg (On War).
Putting Lizzo (and Jack Black) into Star Wars (Mandalorian) is like putting Stacey Abrams into Star Trek (Discovery) or Megan Three Stallion into Marvel (She Hulk). In an earlier time, cameos featured a very good, skilled actor who added extra spice to the show or movie. Now it's more like a wink, wink insider joke from Hollywood against fans who take the IP seriously.
"fans who take the IP seriously" Bruh they're literally movies and TV shows made to sell toys. Nobody in their right mind should take them more seriously than that.
@@AdhamOhm We do because we care about these stories, these characters, and this universe. Besides, the argument that it's made to sell toys is weak because the merchandise is crap and not selling.
I think the key takeaway here is immersion. These shows just do not immerse you or take you away from the real world anymore. I cant get lost in the Star Wars universe anymore
Lizzo and Thor actually have a lot in common. For example, they both have a daily caloric intake of 6,000-8,000. The only teensy weensy little difference is Thor spends about 5 hours a day in the gym while Lizzo tests the durability of furniture made from English Oak.
Lizzo and Jack Black are literally crushing everything. They have the combine gravity pull of two Death Star. When they get in range of each other, it sets off the LIGO detector. The mythical collision of two black holes. We need more Yo Momma jokes... These two whales should be perfect.
@@josephbrown9685 I had hope... I mean I skipped the new movies, but Mando was good, so I had hope for Star Wars TV, that is, but after one episode Boba Fett show I saw the writing on the wall for the last hold out of Star Wars quality. The Alamo has fallen, boys.
@@drlca6601 Oh you sweet summer child... Mando was the reason ALL OF THIS WENT TO SHIT. You allowed an invincible, monotone protagonist to dictate the future of Star Wars. Tatooine went from a backwater planet to THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE FOR MULTIPLE CHARACTERS.
I think part of the issue for the Mandalorian was that they gave Dave Filoni too much writing power, and he just wanted to throw in all his animation series characters. That said Season 2 of The Mandalorian was at least "Cammeo of the Week" and then a full meet up towards the finale. They were mostly single episode story arcs, now they seem like they are mainstay's. Which is ironic, since what made the Mandalorian so great was how it was derivative of Star Wars, without actually using a whole lot of established characters.
I’d argue not when they fired it but when they had the intent to fire it. Bc Bob knew when George signed those papers everything going to be thrown out
If I'm being honest I found Jack Black's performance to be more immersion breaking for me. Don't get me wrong I found both to be very distracting, and maybe it's just because I don't really know Lizzo beyond a couple of her songs, but Jack Black was literally just playing "Jack Black but in Star Wars" and it took me completely out of the experience. As much as everyone is complaining about Lizzo, I actually found her character to be more believable. Although I will say that whole part of the episode felt like something ripped out of a phase-4 Marvel movie so take "believable" with a grain of salt.
Have to say, Bill Burr was great in the second season. Hate to admit it, but I loved his character and wanted to see more of him in the future after that. Yes, he was still Bill Burr, but I think he played the character well enough that I could watch it without being pulled out of it.
Bill Burr does not inject HIMSELF (heavily) into a movie, that's the thing. He knows it's his job to act serious when the script or overall tone demands it. Jack Black is a comedy guy 99% of the time. Not only on stage (like Burr) but in movies. You can't unsee Jack Black. I can unsee Bill Burr if he wants me to unsee him.
I love how the titular character was just like a background guy through the whole episode and also most of this season. You see a quarter of him in almost all shots, and mostly he just does nothing or barely contribute to the plot.
I remember seeing Attack of the Clones for the first time, I know it has bad moments but when we saw Jango in his armour with the iconic T helmet we immediately thought this guy is dangerous, and the few times we saw him he was trouble and meant business. Jango was a good character albeit killed off too early in my opinion. Mando in season 1 had a similar intimidating presence but now Mandaloriens just don't feel intimidating anymore.
Not to mention that they feel terribly incompetent. How many times do you have to be attacked by a flying monster to figure out that you need a watch to keep an eye out for it? How many times do you need to be pinned down by fire from an elevated position to figure out that you can use those bloody jetpacks to have cover from the roofs?
@@irena4545 I really dislike it when writers decide "our characters need to be really stupid and incompetent so we can move this plot point forward". It's lazy AF and destroys any suspension of disbelief.
The problem with the Mandolorian is that it was a cool concept, but didn't actually have a story to tell, and it shows. After the initial happy surprise of a cool looking dude with a cute sidekick, it became clear that they didn't actually know where they wanted to go with the story. They did side quest after side quest with very little overarching story so besides the pretty facade, there's nothing to latch onto.
Please. The entire concept of the Mandalorian is not new at all. It was ripped off the 60s Japanese series called Lone wolf and cub in which a descraced Samurai had to protect a 5 year old kid in a pram. Disney just ripped it off.
Agreed. This is the entirety of Disney Star Wars - everything is just a setup, with nothing thought through or planned after the initial setup. Mandalorian had a good setup and a nice sense of something bigger waiting around the corner. But just as with every other Disney product, there was nothing else coming. Just making it up as they go along, poorly.
Concepts are common. Legitimately breathtaking storytelling is NOT. For anyone seeking exemplary storytelling, I suggest you look into "Diamond Dragons". It's LEAGUES better than all the Hollywon't trash. 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨
The first two seasons were accurately described as an adventure of the week, or side fetch-quest, with an overarching story. And some of the sidequests were far more interesting than others. This is just what was needed to revitalize the franchise. A Spaghetti western themed episodic small adventures under a large story was a perfect way for Star Wars to go back to basics and it's roots in Western and Samurai stories. The perfect example of this was the standoff on one side of the wall and the saber fight on the other in that Ashoka episode of season 1 But this third season very quickly lost its footing as the main antagonist was unknown until the 7th of 8 episodes. That compounded with the forced removal of fan favorite character Cara Dune didn't help matters. I was hoping they could work into the plot 2 other well liked characters. Cobb Vanth who found and borrowed Bobba Feitts armor and became ally to both Din and Bobba. The other is Migs Mayfield, the former imperial sharpshooter who lost all love for the empire when all his friends were killed by his own leaders with Operation Cinder. 2 or 3 if those meandering sidequest episodes could have been about how those adults can take the creed, learn to battle in the way, and become Mandalorian. Of course having episodes devoted to adult white men, and bringing Gina Carano back in any capacity would definitely, as you say, conflict with "The Message."
I think the Lizzo/Black cameo could have worked if they were both Hutts holding court and eating space frogs out of a tank filled with amniotic-like fluid. That would have been TV gold.
The whole episode didn’t feel like Star Wars- I just kept thinking back on the trailer for season one showing Stormtroopers heads on pikes and a grizzled, gnarly underworld of Star Wars. This episode reminded me of Canto Bite.
I'm convinced that all of the Nite Owls went on Vacation Day but they forgot to tell Bo-Katan about it, leaving her sulking alone in her castle until Din Djarin and Grogu came along.
When are we going to talk about how horrible of a father Din is lmao. Taking him on dogfights, leaving him with literally anybody who asks. Moments like that pull me out sometimes lol.
I can't belive that Jon Favreau did not receive any pressure from the company, to "adjust" the mandalorian to the message, his early works on the starwars franchise were good, his later work is flipped completely to straight nonsense. There is such a big gap in the type of work he made that no one can fake such competence in the beginnings and then being so incompetent now.
@@michaeljameskeating1348 legit this.. I think he has checked out and now he just smiles and nods. Realising that getting any serious work or world building done now is like rolling a dice.
Worst part of this episode is there could have been an interesting arc for that society. Christopher's motivation was because society relied on robots too much hence the sabotage. Instead of taking that into account they exile him and return to a society dependent on machines.
@Orion This idea came through so strongly in this episode, I thought it had to be intentional. But I bet they thought they were making some kind of "stunning and brave" anti-message with this episode. These people are so completely captured by their ideology their "message" ends up coming out the opposite of their intentions
I'd been hanging onto the show, enjoying it enough, and I'm cool with this season's direction of going a bit bigger, uniting and retaking mandalore. I'm fine with Bo Katan getting screentime, learning humility and rising to become the "feel good" leader we want her to be. So, I hadn't checked out yet, this this episode was just surreal. It was so ridiculous that it felt like a parody- not just the cameos but the nonsensical plot. This truly felt like the "jump the shark" episode. Then we get back to business at the end and it was such a letdown. I thought that resolving the darksaber matter was going to be this great heroic moment for her and it felt so empty.
"Leader we want her to be" no, I want that terrorist, who has yet to show any remorse for being responsible for her sister's death, as far away from the throne as possible.
@Red Beard's Racing They even mucked that up. She beats a former subordinate, then Mando gives it to her without a fight. Clearly that's because there was no certainty she could take it
The sad thing is that later she played it, dressed more like a normal person attending a fancy DC event, and was pretty good (being a trained flutist and all). But all anyone saw was the waving it around and twerking in that almost non-outfit like it were part of a regular concert of hers, playing all of like 2-3 notes. It didn't help that it was used as an excuse to scream "RAAAAAAYCISSS!", leftists claiming that people were criticizing her not because she was being disrespectful with a national treasure but because she's black.
The story should have made the reunion of Grogu and Mando much more difficult, and the issue with the Dark Saber should not have been so easily resolved.
Bringing Grogu back was kind of terrible I think, so far this season he's been handed around like a joint. He should have stayed with Luke and pondered his future for longer than an episode. Plus to waste that reunion on Book of Boring Fett instead of the main show with Mando. They could have made an entire episode of him leaving like Luke did in ESB because his friends were in trouble. Like Poetry, it rhymes.
The dark saber conflict already got resolved? Damn, what else is there to look forward to at this point? I was gonna resub to D+ purely for this season but I think I’ll just read comments and save some money.
@@mau4604 yeah, instead of using it to examine mandalorian culture and increase the conflict, they hand waived it away. Same with Grogu reuniting with Mando, it was way too easy, way to quick. It's like these writers are allergic to tension.
Tbh why is grogu even back? Just move on from there and go exploring. How is that the biggest selling point of the show?mando was still torching people while holding grogu.
I was so excited when Grogu went away with Luke. I loved the first episode when we got to see Din doing the bounty hunter thing on his own, and I wanted to see more of that. I feel like I’m one of the few people that doesn’t like Grogu. For me, I think he’s one of the most annoying characters I’ve seen since Jar Jar. I laughed when he jumped from Din to Lizzo. Every time Grogu “jumps” he looks like what he probably is - a prop puppet being tossed around on set. Anyway, I was hoping to see less Grogu, more bounty hunting. Then again, I would’ve loved to have seen the resurrection of Din’s Razor Crest. I miss that ship. 😭 It deserved better.
So agree. The bounty hunting, Quille, Cara Dune badass villain Moff Gideon and the razor crest. That's what made it. Bo Katan is not a Cara Dune replacement, at least she was humble. The Naboo fighter is not the Razor Crest. It was a practical but powerful ship.
I cant stand the little green git either. I was never that keen on him from the off. But three seasons later he is just getting to Jar Jar level. There is no character development for him. He needs to learn to speak. All he does in every episode is look cute. Or gurgle. Or get in trouble and need rescuing. Or do a cute baby thing like stealing a shiny control knob to keep. Or lastly pull off some force trick or stunt to save himself or someone else. And that is all he does. That is what you get every episode, nothing changes.
No, you are definitely not the only one. Baby Yoda was a good MacGuffin for the start of the show. But, after he had served his purpose, he should have stayed with Luke.
I always got the impression that Disney was caught by surprise at the huge reaction to "baby Yoda" in the TV series did not originally plan for him to become a permanent part of the cast. I'll admit I liked the character when he was introduced in S1, but for me, he's outlasted his welcome. At this point, though, disney has firmly cemented him as the co-star of the series and I'm not sure how they could get rid of him now. 😕
How can they destroy a character and show so easily, I actually turned episode 6 off and deleted what i had of season 3. the scenes with Black and Lizzo(who) cringe , but not as farcical as the scene where the Mandalorian take a ship over capture the lover of captain goldfish. The writing was prep school the need for it pointless . This is the prime reason I watch foreign shows and movies, originality and " No Message" , Love your work CD
I still don't understand how a corporation obsessed with making money would spend that much to acquire a definitive golden goose franchise, only to hand it over to incompetence who have no direction in mind and apparently wanted to kill it out of spite. I think only Star Trek has received a comparative level of cultural assassination.
Dr Who has, at times, made money but that was never really the point since it is publicly funded. You're spot on with Terminator though. Imagine seeing T2 (which resolves the time travel nonsense and saves humanity with Arnie's big sacrifice) and asking for pitches for the next sequel and the best offer you get is "More time travel, erase Arnie's sacrifice, and humanity can't be saved no matter what".
I don't think incompetence is the full answer. I think if you look at Disney's leadership using each of these franchises to produce content to create dissension and division in the public and not profit, you will have to come to the conclusion that they have been entirely successful.
My theory: Cara Dune was supposed to be more integral to the S3 story. So when Gina Carano got canned for absolutely nothing, they had to hastily rewrite not only S3 but also Book of Boba Fett and the only thing they could think to do was bring back Grogu.
@@iamtherealrauschguy The main story arc of S3 has plenty of opportunities for some great Star Wars. The problem isn't that it got stretched too thin, the problem is that their writers are shit. Grogu got pushed back in but he's less than filler at this point. They could actually do what they did with Rogue One and Andor except in reverse order: have the series establish the main characters and the story line, and instead of a lackluster S4, have a movie where they lead up to retaking Mandalor.
Also the episode with the Doctor looked like it was supposed to from Rangers of the New Republic which was going to be Gina Carano's spin off show. Cancelled.
I always assumed that Carano's firing delayed Mando s3 and led to part of s3 being put in Boba Fett. And yeah it's possible she was also going to be in Boba and they had to find something else to replace her last minute. That'd help explain why the Boba series was such a mess.
The opening with the Calimari and Juliet was a complete WTF moment. The soundtrack of the show is the tie fighter sound of it losing altitude and crashing in a ravine.
It'd be completely out of character for Din to have fought for the Dark Saber, he nor his sect have shown any interest in it at all. If they're going to unite Madalorians and retake Mandalore then Din, an outsider extremist, would not be the guy for the job.
The scene with Stephen Hawking in TNG was great, because a) he loved the show b) the scene fit into the episode without issue c) there was no wink wink mentality to it. If I showed my gf that episode I don't know if she'd even realise right away that it was actually him, I don't think I did the first time seeing it as a boy and then realised later on.
@@eyespy3001 Star Trek nerds are, being completely honest, more mature than Star Wars nerds. That scene would be just as fine today as it was 30 years ago. Even then Star Trek had singers in it, except they were random aliens in the background or actual character and not meet and greet NPCs
Tbf Star Wars needs more original characters.. instead of spinning off old characters and ruining them.. but these type of original characters are trash ngl.
Bo Katan and Ahsoka were interesting in Clone Wars but Ahsoka I feel didn’t have anything to do do post clone wars and should’ve kicked it off screen or maybe been a new teacher at Luke’s *after* the war. As for Bo Katan this series fails to acknowledge her part in the rise of Death Watch and her attempt to usurp the thrown of her sister, as well as that ridiculous helmet rule. If Pre Viszla could freely remove his helm I see no reason why his followers made up this rule about being seen helmet-less.
@@doopdoopdopdop7424 Disney shot themselves in the foot with the sequel trilogy, They want their representation and strong female characters but don't put in the work. Ashoka was an actual character that was properly developed during the clone wars but the big problem is All roads lead down one path. Luke dying and the Jedi order being destroyed and mary sue ray being one of the last jedi in the galaxy and the new grand master of the order. Any character that is related to Lukes Jedi order has to die and Disney can't afford to kill them off as Grogu is the only thing thats actually profitable from star wars. As for Bo Katan, anyone who watches The clone wars will instantly dislike her for her part in the death of Satine and her indirect assistance in helping Palpatine. During the last 3 seasons, She has made no effort to change or redeem herself nor as the show shown anything either. In fact its done the opposite, she gets everything handed to her with no real struggle or effort put in, meanwhile Grogu who should have been training with luke is back and mando is getting dumber and feels less skilled with each epsode. Outside of the clone wars, the old republic and some of the games, i have absolutely no interest in star wars and i don't really care if the franchise dies but man it has to be embarrassing for disney when star wars, the greatest franchise in "nerd culture" has been relegated to a tv show on a streaming service.
Disney is like the ex that keeps trying to give you gifts, but they can't understand that you have changed and the gifts are all things that they thought you liked but really you were just satiating them because they were so high maintenance and controlling and never really found out what you really wanted during the entire relationship. Thus the breakup. you still listen for a bit because you are a nice person, but you take the gifts and don't like or use them, then you take them and throw them in the trash and focus on what you like, lastly you just ghost and ignore them all together because they will never get the hint.
Well, take that as the lesson that it is- don’t obsess over things. They’re just _things._ Obsession implies wanting to own something that you know you can never truly own, so just let it go.
Anyone else notice that Lizzo's 'necklace' makes it look like her head is the middle of a Sarlac Pit? Like anything she eats slowly digests over a thousand years?
Checked out of this whole big D debacle back in 2017 the night I was sitting in the theater behind a young family. If rumors are true, Jon Favreau is just going through the motions. He is not in control and he no longer cares. His show has been canceled. His star has been fired. His future plans for the mandalorian were squandered after Grogu was unceremoniously brought back into the show after just leaving. He’s tired of lucasfilm and I bet he’s only staying for the paycheck. I have disagreements with Dave Filoni as well. The man doesn’t know when to let his creations go. He’s also broke canon on more than one occasion. As a lifelong Star Wars fan since (basically) birth- this is sad. This whole situation we’re in as fans is awful. It’s a such a terrible feeling to want your childhood fantasies to burn.
My main gripe with The Mandalorian season 3 is that they've turned it into a kid's show. I'm still somewhat enjoying it just enough to keep watching, but what a quality plummet from seasons 1 & 2.
Your comment is quite peculiar. The whole 'Star Wars' universe *started* as a children's show. That's why George Lucas took a pay cut in exchange for money from merchandising, merchandise that was made *for children!* Lucas knew exactly what type of movies he was making. Now because the kids have grown up, but haven't *grown out* of the 'Star Wars' saga, and are griping about a supposedly "childish" show, says it all. It's a serious detachment from reality. If you still like watching 'Star Wars' stuff, fine, but don't expect anything other than a children's story.
@@markv1274 The Mandalorian might be based somewhat on a kids show (kids but also all ages), but the Mandalorian itself was more mature and that's why we loved it. I don't see why anything SW has to be a kid's show just because the original source material was more kid orientated. SW had a wonderful blend of kid-friendly and also adult entertainment so future projects could choose which elements to focus on more.
George Lucas built and expanded the Star Wars franchise in 30 years. Disney tore it down in less than a decade.
Stan Lee: “first time?”

Shieeeet
This is 100% Kathleen Kennedy’s doing.

It was good because it was ignored by the empire... Then the emperor (Kathleen Kennedy) and her dark agents noticed it.
Why does every cool and gritty Star Wars show and character always get turning into this marvelsish crap.

Season 1 of the Mandalorian worked just fine. Although every episode had the same formula, it was enough to make people happy again just because they once didn't do something massively and obviously stupid with the I.P. You just had to wonder how long can you go forward with the same formula for every episode.
Season 2 was actually good, because they mixed the fetch quest episodes with episodes who actually moved the plot forward and it seemed they actually had a plan for the plot (I know amazing, right?)
AND THEN the Book of Boba came a long and had absolutely nothing to tell, dragged the Mandelorian into this and reversed the whole plot of season two of Mando and its grand finale.
Again.

Let's not forget he was a character in Breaking Bad. He's a good actor actually
It's when the show peaked!
Bill Burr is Bill Burr in every universe at every time.
They did side quest after side quest with very little overarching story so besides the pretty facade, there's nothing to latch onto.

The perfect example of this was the standoff on one side of the wall and the saber fight on the other in that Ashoka episode of season 1
But this third season very quickly lost its footing as the main antagonist was unknown until the 7th of 8 episodes.

It was so ridiculous that it felt like a parody- not just the cameos but the nonsensical plot. This truly felt like the "jump the shark" episode.
Grogu was good for what he was originally intended. But the merchants at Disney got in the way and tried for a cash grab.
Dr who and Terminator
Dr Who has, at times, made money but that was never really the point since it is publicly funded. You're spot on with Terminator though.
Imagine seeing T2 (which resolves the time travel nonsense and saves humanity with Arnie's big sacrifice) and asking for pitches for the next sequel and the best offer you get is "More time travel, erase Arnie's sacrifice, and humanity can't be saved no matter what".
Why assume they are obsessed with money? Power is ultimately all that matters, more then money.
I don't think incompetence is the full answer. I think if you look at Disney's leadership using each of these franchises to produce content to create dissension and division in the public and not profit, you will have to come to the conclusion that they have been entirely successful.
because they are willing to lose money in order to advance the agenda…All for The Cause.
My theory: Cara Dune was supposed to be more integral to the S3 story. So when Gina Carano got canned for absolutely nothing, they had to hastily rewrite not only S3 but also Book of Boba Fett and the only thing they could think to do was bring back Grogu.
Nah, they want Grogu because they know that cute baby is the only thing people care about in this show!
@@kaasmeester5903 this is a highly under appreciated take lol. The bones are there, the writers/showrunners just suck lol
Star Wars: From Sir Alec Guinness to Lizzo.
He's rolling in his grave at what is happening without a doubt.
And from Peter Cushing, Cristopher Lee...
The opening with the Calimari and Juliet was a complete WTF moment. The soundtrack of the show is the tie fighter sound of it losing altitude and crashing in a ravine.
That was nasty. Like I don’t understand why that scene was there
Calimario and Squidiet
Nite Owls when Bo-Katan receive Darksaber from Din Djarin without fighting him: "Ah, shit! Here we go again!"
It'd be completely out of character for Din to have fought for the Dark Saber, he nor his sect have shown any interest in it at all. If they're going to unite Madalorians and retake Mandalore then Din, an outsider extremist, would not be the guy for the job.
The ending of season 2 has completely lost all it's emotional resonance, because Grogu went back a few months later.
That and there wasn’t an entire cottage industry of grifter nerds around yet to tell you that it was bad.
@@eyespy3001 Star Trek nerds are, being completely honest, more mature than Star Wars nerds. That scene would be just as fine today as it was 30 years ago. Even then Star Trek had singers in it, except they were random aliens in the background or actual character and not meet and greet NPCs
Love seeing Tyrone as part of the group!
Filoni is the stereotype of a fan inserting their OCs the minute they get any power over a franchise.
I thought Filoni was better than this, but apparently he just wants to wallow in the Hollywood quagmire with all the rest of the swamp monsters.
Is it Filoni's Fault or pressure from above?
Except that you're the one paying for all those gifts from the start
I love watching the franchise I obsessed over as a kid go up in flames. Great job Kathleen 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It wasnt just kathleen
Well, take that as the lesson that it is- don’t obsess over things. They’re just _things._ Obsession implies wanting to own something that you know you can never truly own, so just let it go.

Ok maybe "obsessed" was an exaggeration. Granted I haven't had an interest is anything new from Star Wars since 2019

Ain't that the depressing truth
Anyone else notice that Lizzo's 'necklace' makes it look like her head is the middle of a Sarlac Pit? Like anything she eats slowly digests over a thousand years?
Checked out of this whole big D debacle back in 2017 the night I was sitting in the theater behind a young family. 'That Scene' when Lea brings herself back into the ship because surprise, she knows the force. The daughter, maybe eight or nine, whispered to her dad, 'That's not Star Wars.' - This was the moment I accepted the franchise had been lost.
Getting a singer into a movie is like getting an electrician in to fix the plumbing, just two completely different trades
Analogies are not your strong suit.

Some people have the talent to do two things. Lizzo is a bad actress, and the show didn't seem to care because they called her for the role.

@@Ted_Sheckler not trying to be witty, I just saw your video on cuties, I just don't know how you could say how great it was, bit weird, did you not think it was a bit exploitative?
I still have hope for Ahsoka, but if they screw up Thrawn, I’m gonna be very angry with Mr. Filoni.
@@konstantinosnikolakakis8125your thoughts now?
