This is an excellent song to drive to along long stretches of road where there's no civilization for miles. (Example: Interstate 5 in California between Los Banos (Spanish for "the bathrooms") and Harris Ranch with its umpteen acres of beef-destined cattle.) It really makes time go by, almost hypnotically . . . mystically?
I’m a JLP fan for almost 40 years! Had a chance to see him live in Charlotte N.C. and Montreux Switzerland in the 90ties. While sort, this here is my most favored solo he ever did; even the studio version is awesome! That bass and drum groove during the violin solo is incredible! Planing to see JLP live again sometime!
Jean-Luc is the most gifted, hard working musician on the planet....so creative!!...awesome technique!!!...I don't think anyone comes close to his talent & its on one of the hardest instruments to play-he is a Master of the violin!! His music is sooo much fun to listen to!!!
Grand Voyage is the name of this album yes? I love this insane musician may his soul forever drift through our reality, inspiring great musicians for eons to come!
Yeah Randy Jackson played on the studio version of this titled "Mystical Adventures" of course the bass player on this footage is NOT Randy Jack. but the actually album was all him. He played alot of people,Billy Cobham, Narada Micheal, and more.
I remember seeing Jean-Luc Ponty at Toad's Place when they toured to support the Mystical Adventures album. The only disappointment was that they didn't play the last part of the Mystical Adventures suite (Part V), but as always, Jean-Luc has a great band.
Yeah all the other players on this footage were the original cats that played on the wax version. It would've been cool to see Randy Jackson do the live Jean Luc Ponty dates. I also saw them live in Philly Randy wasn't on that date either.
Randy Jackson also played for Journey in one if it's mid 80s incarnations briefly. Check out all of Jean Lucs bands up to now. All the musicians were/are (unfortunately ,Mark Craney, Alan Zavod, Allan Holdsworth, and Baron Brown are no longer with us) all fantastic including the 70s/80s band he has back together, and the one for his current music. Plus he has worked with the likes of John McLaughlin, Return to Forever with Chick Cores, Al DiMeola, and Stanley Clark, as well as working with DiMeola and Clark on the Rite of Strings project and subsequent tours. He has also worked with Jon Anderson formally of Yes, African musicians like Guy N'Sanga, who still is with his current band, and too many others to mention here. He also has said on his website when asked who his favorite musicians he played with are, he said all if them. That's because they were/are all top notch
Greetings Je t'aime Jean Luc - "I love YOU Jean Luc" The violin is an ancient instrument. notes aren't going to be exact as in western styles. In Asian/Middle eastern/african music scales have double the amount of notes than western. Far more complicated to play and sing. Many Western instruments can't play most those styles because of the limited amount of notes. Violin is the closest instrument to a human voice. If you like Jean Luc check out Regina Carter. I'm out......
Jean Luc has played African and African inspired music with African musicians, one of whom is still in his current band. Check out Tchokola and No Absolute Time.

...I smoked a lot of pot with this when I was young. And since then, whenever i listen again, I fly.
Make me feel like a bong or three, haven't had a smoke in 20 years ..🚬🚬🚬
flying...!
@pctech69 Randy played in the studio when the album was cut.
Randy Jackson played on the studio album!!
I'd like to see/hear him jam with Eddie Jobson, you know, just to finish the job of blowing my head clean off :D
It's a shame, everyone is just finding about Randy Jackson through idol. Randy was killing back in the day on the fusion tip. Randy is a bad cat.

Jean Luc is the SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ssabgorp yes he is!!!
Fantastic.. again and again..almost 40 years.. But, does anyone know the name of the piece that starts right at the end? Thanks...
it was the part 4.
yes it's not ralph armstrong
nope, Keith Jones on this video.
The bass player is Ralph Armstrong, not Randy Jackson.
What is this fuckin noise??? the music is great, btw.
+Frost It's something you don't understand, open your mind.
ssabgorp I'm talking about the audio quality, I know very well jazz-fusion.
