Mr Glaser---first heard of you back in 1979 on Lenny White's Streamline lp---been a fan ever since. Actually I first heard of Nick Moroch & Marcus Miller on that same album also. Lucky you to have been part of line-up that is now known as legendary!!!
Jamie ~ WOW! A bandmember _talking to peeps!!_ l was at this show in Van at the Commodore. l was 16, not even of age. l discovered Jazz/Prog when everyone was listening to punk! The guys _flipped_ that l liked it, cuz girls ...well you know? This was a time when ''good musicians'' meant EVERYTHING! l talked to Alan Z at a Zappa show, and _had to find out_ just how much 'work' was involved with being THIS GOOD! l pray for the days where we'll have this kind of music Renaissance again! Weather Report, Bruford, Genesis, ELP, Mahavishnu, Holdsworth, GADS! Thank you! THANK YOU GUYS from the bottom of my HEART! xDDD
Thank YOU for GIVING IT... The JLP Albums from 1982 to 1989 got me through MY LIFE ! If not for you guys, I would NOT be here... GOD Bless you Jamie, Much, Much Love to You, Wally, Allan Z, Chris, Randy, Keith, Baron, Allan H.(RIP) Rayford and The Cosmic Messenger himself !! From NYC... ONE LOVE !
It was this exact performance that introduced me to Rayford Griffin and his drumming exploits back in the 80's. One of (if not) the most musical drummers ever.
i saw this video in the 90s when i started playing,,this solo is pure music, not many drummers can produce music from drums and Rayford is the best at it.never get bored of listening to this..and the stick flip blows me away ..i mean he dont even look!! hehehe
Rayford is a musician. Bar none! The little things he does on the kit is just amazing! He understands the music. And he interprets the beats interestingly. He is one of my favorite drummers to listen to.
All this music is absolutely incredible!!!!! I've always loved ponty's music and all the musicians who ever played with him. So much respect them all❤❤❤
You can hear a lot of Ponty's influence in Steve's Smith's phrasing he still uses in his solos even today. Rayford was and is a top dog and a nice guy as well
so glad my brother introduced me to this when I was a younger man. I never, ever get tired of listening to this. You just close your eyes and take off.
Un maestro, Rayford..Que se puede decir de un tremendo baterista....Es cosa de ver como reaccionón el público y sus pares ante tal obra maestra-.....Ojalá que el maestro Ponty vuelva a tocar con Rayford...............Sería genial
@NPR150 Yeah I always liked that slightly dead Remo Pinstripe sound too. I wore the Mystical Adventures album out, largely because of Griffin's performance.
I have been listening to Jean-Luc Ponty since he started playing with Frank Zappa. And he just keeps getting better!~ I saw him okay live twice. Although, I enjoy listening to him the most while making love or relaxing in bed. So soothing and sensual
I'm looking for this whole concert. All that I come up w/ is pt.2... There's a video that has the whole concert, I can't seem to locate it ( stuck like Chuck). Help me out, if you can. Don't know what else to do.
