I love Ponchos, and I love your Ponchos, especially the blue one. I am new (late starter) to the craft of knitting & crochet and have almost finished knitting my first handmade Poncho.
We are entering winter here in Australia.
Ponchos not only had some extra warmth, but are a great accessory and much easier to wear than shawls.
I plan on making some light weight open ones for summer to wear over tan tops and which will help to cover up the tops of my arms 🙂
Thank you for another enjoyable and inspiring podcast.
PS letting go of our children is very hard, it has taken me a few years to come to terms with it, however knowing that they are independent means as parents we have done our job.
It also helped me by reflecting back on my youth when I was claiming my independence, it did not mean that I did not love my mum or still need her and wanted her in my life

@@TheKnittyKats I was the same, I think we all do it. My mum passed away age 43years old so by the time I was old enough to understand, it was too late to apologize. My sons have done the same to me, and whilst it hurts so much at the time, I know they don't mean it (well I hope they don't LOL)

I lived in Indiana and my friend and I would crochet with material strips. The baskets came out so nice and firm. We went to a woman who had a garage full of bolts of material that was like 1-2 inches wide. It was so much fun!

I'm not a mom but was really touched by your story about your daughter. Thanks for sharing. As I watched your podcast, I was crocheting granny squares for the first time in a long time. I'm going to make Tanis Fiber Arts' Jethro cardigan using Double Sunday yarn from Sandnes Garn. I, too, love crochet but I'm passionate about knitting, so I make room for both, like you do. It was so fun catching up with you! I love your ponchos and your crocheted top. As a crocheter, I am going to look up the pattern and the stiches to create one for myself. The sweater you created from your mother's fiber is beautiful. What a very special piece to have in your wardrobe. I admire your ability and foresight! I am a mother of 2 boys in their mid 20s, so I do not know what it is like to be the mother of a daughter but I will say that the journey of motherhood can be very difficult. It’s funny that you had this “Crochet” themed podcast. Crochet has been in my life since I was 6 yrs old ❤❤ I’m probably older than you. I always known how to knit since I was taught at the same time as Crochet but withIn the last few years I dedicated my time to strengthening my knitting skills. I’ve made many knit and crochet items over the last 60 years. I now have 4 Grandaughters between the ages of 4- 18 & they all want the jethro sweater jacket(crochet & knit) After those I’m going to come up with a sweater for the grandson. MY Daughter and my daughter in law are waiting in the wings to tell me their specifics on color themes. I’m here swimming in granny squares.

Crocheting sweaters is really fun and so quick. I’ve made loads for myself and my daughters in law. Love Linda Skuja’s designs and, for really simple garments, Jess Coppom (Make Do and Crew), Janne (Joy of Motion Crochet) and Hey Carrie! (Crochet with Carrie) - all of whom have websites with free patterns.
Your basket made me smile - I make round ones for cat beds and found that crocheting the sides twice as deep as required, folding the edges over a circle of cardboard keeps the sides stiff enough to support my furry friends in their slumber. They seem to prefer baskets that fit them when they are curled up rather than stretched out! Also make big round ones with handles for project baskets. Not sure how you stiffen a big basket - cornstarch & water, or other spray on fabric stiffeners (Amazon). Linda UK 💕🧶😽

I'm so happy that your daughter reached out to you. I know it is heartbreaking as I have also been through this with both of my daughters a few years after their Dad passed. They were out of college and on their own. It was a long 6 months....I often felt like I wished I had been the one to die so I would not have to go through losing my husband and then my daughters. When I mentioned it to a few of my friends, no one could relate because they never experienced this nor had they lost a spouse. Whatever the reason for the "break" it is not easy for us Mom's. Thank you for sharing with us as there are others who can relate and need to know they are not alone in dealing with this kind of relationship with our adult offspring. Knowing I could pray for her was one thing that would soothe my heart. Thankfully we reconnected on her birthday in November. She has given me my first grandchild and I’m so thankful I am part of her life again.
When she wasn’t speaking to us and I would share it with church friends asking them to pray I was shocked to hear how many would say that their daughters didn’t speak to them for a year or five or ten years. So hard on our mom hearts 💕!

I love your spirit more & more each time I watch your videos... I learned how to crochet when I was in my 2nd foster home, the lady taught me, I made 1 granny square & she was disappointed in my finished piece that she didn't teach me anything else... then when I was 30, I decided I wanted to crochet a blanket... it was odd that I just picked it up & loved it... although I only had made half the blanket before I got bored of it... then about 7 years ago I started making scrubbies, hats, scarves, & my daughter asked me to make her bikini tops... now I'm trying to learn how to knit, it is so much harder... you are right about that! I'm 56 now & I have 2 daughters... I have always put myself in their place before reacting to them... she will treasure you more because you have understood her... the need for space won't last, especially once she has settled!

Such a fun podcast!!! I always enjoy watching/listening to you! I didnt watch this newest podcast until today because I was hanging out in your beautiful Colorado for a week. We saw a goose family like yours at the pond, at the entrance of the YMCA of the Rockies. Our favorite place to have a base for exploring RMNP. Yes, please share about your crochet hooks. 😊 Blessings to you from Kansas ❤xx (I use my son's TH-cam Account)

God Bless you for having the wisdom to give your daughter the space she needs right now. I have a friend who didn't do that when her daughter was around that age, as the daughter pulled away she held on tighter & tighter. That caused fights & hard words to be shared on both sides causing a complete split between my friend & both her daughters that has now lasted for several years. She has not been allowed any contact with her daughter's own children since their births. So while you may cry & be sad now ultimately you will be happy in the future. I wish you well. I am the mother of two boys & while I always wanted daughters I've come to realize boys are easier!

I’m still at the crochet part of your podcast, but I just have to stop and tell you how much I love your podcasts. You have such a kind and welcoming personality. I’ve mentioned before how encouraged I am by your openness about your faith. I am a Christian also and am so drawn to other knitters who share a love of Christ. I knit way more than I crochet, but I loved the Granny Square Tee. I’m hoping to order Devin/KnittyMcPurly’s Advent this year and wonder if that might work for the Tee. I’ve never ordered an Advent, but the Creator of the Universe theme thrills me. I’m sure it will be beautiful!
I hope you are going to her retreat. This will be my first retreat and I am so excited to meet Devin’s followers as she (and you) seem to attract such kind people. Hope to meet you one day.

Really enjoyed the episode with all the things. I’ve crocheted a few baskets and have used plastic canvas (cut to size) to firm up sides and bottoms. You do have to do some plain crochet rows to cover the plastic canvas but as you said crochet seems to go so much faster than knitting. I’ve not made a crochet garment yet but it is on my list of things I want to try. Hope you have a good few weeks.

I love crochet and knitting both!!! So excited to see your crochet projects. I'm working on the hourglass sweater by crochet highway. Her designs are brilliant!!! They have more drape because she uses light weight yarn (sock or sport). Check her out. Looking forward to your hook discussion. I love the tulip and clover amour hooks but don't like the rubber handles which cause friction burns. Always on the lookout for the perfect hook. The closest I've come to the perfect hook is one from the Letto workshop in Ukraine but they've had to curtail their production for obvious reasons.

Loved your video. Soooo many beautiful projects, ideas, techniques. I could go on for ages. You’re such an inspiration. I’ve been knitting and crocheting and stitching since I was very very young. But watching you just gives me such inspiration and makes me love these crafts even more than I already do. The only thing I’ve never done is spinning. I’ve been dying to learn but have no way to as we don’t have any shops here in my neck of the woods that have classes. In fact, we have no craft shops so everything I buy has to be online. Maybe someday I’ll find a way to learn. One other thing, the spool you had the two skeins which you’re using to knit two skeins at a time, where did you get it? Let me know whenever you can. Thank you and I’m so happy you and your daughter have connected again. She’s obviously a marvelous young woman. It’s tough for us mothers to give our daughters wings because we want so much to protect them, but they sprout those wings in spite of us and that’s good. Your being there for her is so incredibly important to her, believe me. Someday sooner than you can imagine she will acknowledge it and you will know that your faithfulness was her anchor and inspiration. Be strong, it will be ok. God bless and keep these wonderful videos coming. I miss you when you stay away too long but I know you’re very busy. Hope your spring plans are very successful.

Loving all of the crochet inspiration, myself being a crocheter first and now a knitter. I am only 18 minutes in, but before I head to work I just wanted to suggest maybe finding a milliner’s wire to “thread” into your basket somehow...to sturdy it up? My opinion of using a stiffener would be that it would take away that lovely tactile sense we experience from yarn. 💗Love and stitches from North Dakota!

Thanks for the nice podcast. Love your ponchos. I also crochet. It's a good change from knitting to crochet. You was talking about the little sewing machines. My mother in law passed away December of 2022. When we went thru the house. I asked for something and was told I was just a daughter in law. Hurt feeling ? I had taken over a lot of meals. Just a lot of stuff. So I went home with nothing. Oh well, later that day my husband came home with a few things and said I have something for you. No one wanted this little Fetterhead singer sewing machine. I went to my local yarn and quilt shop with my sewing machine. It is mint shape and they looked up the model number and said keep it! It is valuable. Have I told my husband's family? Heavens no. Its mine.

You can stiffen your basket with liquid starch or a product called Terial Magic. Check with your local quilt shop, they'll know. A quilter's corner in Erie CO is a great shop. If you use Terial Magic, I would dilute because when used full strength on fabric it turns out stiff as card stock.

Enjoyed your fun content. Have you seen the podcast "on the Hook by Jeanne"? A wonderfully creative woman of character who features patterns she has designed for "wearable crochet", although she has other designs too. I both crochet and knit. I find myself gravitating to crochet when I want to enjoy myself and I also find I can more easily make it "boho-ish" and full of unique color and design. I rarely see a blanket or afghan knitted which I really love, for example, but the endless designs in crochet, both simple like the one you made and enjoyed, and frustratingly complicated are crocheted. Crochet is quick if it is on larger hooks, larger yarn, lots of lacey spaces, straightforward pattern, etc. but can take long like knit if it is a fussy garment on a small hook with fingering weight! Most knitters struggle with the "edges problem" and finding the stitch which is a bit more of a thought process and technique than knitting. Richer is doing both! Thank you for a great podcast.

I enjoy listening to the crochet projects. I have not tried a crochet garment however I have my eye on the Franny Granny Poncho. I’m currently crocheting an Attic 24 blanket that I received from my daughter last Christmas. I asked for one after you showed all of yours. This is the same daughter that I didn’t talk to for about a month when she went away to college. She needed to not talk to me and spread her wings. I gave her the room she needed and kept praying for her. We are close again (a few years later) and I will be praying for you two as well.

Moms and daughters are a tough equation. I've seen it in four generations, my mom with her mom, my mom and me, and me and my daughter. Oh my. But it was nice to see you so cheerful and full of inspiration!
I have a Schacht Ladybug (Matchless was way too expensive) and it's a fine wheel. However, I still love my traditional Finnish wheel the most, even though some things are easier to achieve with a modern wheel. I think Schacht accessories are outrageously expensive. So I too have opted for 3d-printed bobbins. They're cheaper, prettier and also use less plastic than the original bobbins, so yay, save the eco system, too! 😅

I love your podcast and all the projects you have completed. Your crochet poncho is beautiful and elegant. I would love to learn to crochet but reluctant to take the plunge. I crocheted one baby blanket with a simple single crochet stitch using left over sock yarns for my little grandson . I used a metal crochet hook for that project and found my hands aches a lot. I'm looking forward to a discussion on crochet hooks and then maybe I'll buy a good hook and take the plunge. Would a blanket or poncho be the best first project?
